Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?

PrincessConsuelaBH · 12/10/2020 21:09

So I have approx. 15lbs to lose to get back to my comfortable weight and for my clothes to fit! Thanks to lockdown and a toddler that still doesn't sleep meaning I rely on sugar to get me through the day...

I'm aiming to break it up into 3 5lb mini goals so I don't feel like it's unmanageable before I ever start Grin

Nothing faddy, just planning to make better choices with my food, plan more, and move more too. I have some short-ish term goals that I'm hoping will be enough motivation for me to shift the weight 👶🏻

Anyone want to join? I'd be happy to keep a list going (if there's not too many of us!) to record our weights and losses if anyone would want that too.

@RainingBatsAndFrogs hyration has a lot to do with changes in body weight. And when you do a lot of exercise your muscles hold onto water to repair themselves. I'm sure the 400g will disappear in the next couple of days!

PurpleDaisies · 18/11/2020 11:01

400g is just a big poo. Don’t feel 💩 about it! It sounds like a great day for exercise and don’t forget all the other benefits apart from just weight loss and you’re absolutely right about the overall trend.

I’ve done a hiit class which was killer for abs today. I’m going to try and do some proper stretching later or it’s going to be painful tomorrow.

I’ve got a glut of carrots I might turn into soup for lunch...or support the local economy by getting a take away from a cafe here.

BrimfulOfBaba · 18/11/2020 13:52

Ha at the big poo! It's very true. Day to day fluctuations will drive you mad if you think about them too much.

I've had my couscous and halloumi lunch for breakfast today, have ordered a falafel wrap for lunch. And bean chilli with a baked potato for dinner, subbing cheddar and sour cream for cottage cheese.

Leg circuit plus 35 mins on the crosstrainer this eve. Will hopefully offset the falafel wrap (...and flapjack cookie). Overall I feel happy rather than kicking myself.

Oxyiz · 18/11/2020 15:02

Thats awful @BrimfulofBaba! I just remember the shouting and general humiliation - I'm sure they meant to motivate us, but it was the one subject in school I was terrible at and lived in terror of.

I wish it had been more about nutrition and diet and building proper exercise attitudes for life, rather than "get outside and run around for an hour whether you're athletic or not - Oxyiz why are you a hundred metres behind everyone else?!"

I've noticed that salt intake hugely affects weight - a salty meal will see me "put on" a pound or two overnight. Luckily it's not permanent. Lots of water helps!

DownUdderer · 19/11/2020 09:00

I did a 5km walk this afternoon. I had pretty good food today.

I put on a dress I bought last summer and it was too big, I pinned it so it looked ok and wore a belt. It looked fine, but I really took the whole day to figure out that I'm a smaller size now. My brain is slower to catch up!

PurpleDaisies · 19/11/2020 11:54

That’s fantastic @DownUdderer. That must be such an encouragement that things are going in the right direction.

I’ve noticed my sports bras don’t feel too tight under the bust any more and a friend commented that my arms looked good the other day (!!!). I’m celebrating with a nice cup of coffee in my favourite mug rather than a doughnut.

@BrimfulOfBaba I’m in awe of anyone who can use a cross trainer properly. They are my nemesis.

I’m sore after yesterday’s hiit. It’s Zumba later, possibly with some stretchy yoga this afternoon to try and fix my muscle pain!

RebeccaNoodles · 19/11/2020 12:06

Hi all, could I join please?! I've been trying to get down to 10 stone (top of my healthy weight) since March 🙈 started at 10 stone 7 and have been ricocheting between that and 10 stone 2 since then ... I am so sick of it and want the scales to say 10 stone by Weds 2 Dec. Currently 10 stone 4. Doing Couch to 5K and Pilates on off days. I do actually lose weight if I just cut out snacks and sugar, I don't have to go too restrictive. So there's no excuse!!
Sorry for the rant, well done on all your successes! It's not easy Star

Jemenfouscompletement · 19/11/2020 13:27

RebeccaNoodles good luck with your couch to 10k, where are you on the plan?

I put on 1.3kg overnight despite running 20km in the morning. It was my birthday yesterday so last night ate and drank too much of the wrong things, notably snacks, red wine and chocolate nearly a whole box of Lindt Pyrenees Blush
6 weeks to Christmas and need to be more serious now birthday is out of the way.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 19/11/2020 13:54

And when you do a lot of exercise your muscles hold onto water to repair themselves
That's interesting, I didn't know that.

Anyway back down to 200g below Monday's weight today.

Also my scales could be dodgy as they were bought in the Woolworth's closing down sale! How long ago is that?

Just been for a brisk 4 mile walk into the office and back. I did have a Greggs Steak Bake for lunch but will be frugal for the rest of the day. Only 411 calories. Too much temptation after my months of home working fuelled by wholesome wholegrain wholewheat everything Grin. Breakfast would have been less than 300 cals.

BrimfulOfBaba · 19/11/2020 15:38

Ahh @DownUdderer and @PurpleDaisies, that's amazing! Well done :) those realisations are so rewarding.

@purpledaisies the crosstrainer has been a godsend since my knees decided running wasn't for them. Although I hate it rather a lot when doing the higher resistance bits!

Welcome @RebeccaNoodles, couch to 5k is a brilliant programme!

Happy birthday for yesterday @Jemenfouscompletement, if you can't have what you want on your birthday, when can you?!

@RainingBatsAndFrogs I'm still WFH and am dreading my eating habits lapsing back once I'm near sausage rolls and cookies again. That said, I've been no angel today. I've had two flapjack cookies for no reason at all, hoping to balance things out.

On the plus side, I ordered a lovely dress in my usual size and it was really very baggy. So it's being returned, and I've optimistically ordered some bits in the next size down, an 8. This is the size I fit into at my absolute fittest which is still about half a stone away so it will either be very motivating or very disheartening Grin

RebeccaNoodles · 19/11/2020 16:33

@Jemenfouscompletement thanks, I'm on week 5... for the 3rd time since March 🙈

Great news on the dress size BofB, that's got to feel good!!

BrimfulOfBaba · 19/11/2020 16:51

It was a little boost I needed @RebeccaNoodles, as the scale and I have not been friends lately!

Oxyiz · 19/11/2020 19:58

Hi @RebeccaNoodles, I'm so impressed by anyone who does the couch to 5k thing!

Woolworths closed over 12 years ago according to Google, which is weird, I actually thought it was longer ago than that.

I'm down half a pound today which I credit to thinking about this thread yesterday when I reached for the chocolate in the evening and then and some all bran instead 😇

DownUdderer · 19/11/2020 21:11

I'm down a pound this morning! Phew! I put on 2lb by just eating whatever I fancied for a weekend. And being good for a few days has seen it disappear again! I'm one pound from goal weight. But I know I'll have to really concentrate on maintenance.

I've lost 20lb since beginning of September. I put on a dress, non stretchy, at that time and it felt tight, later on I sat down and oh my goodness. I had to breath in, and hold the bottom together so I didn't flash my knickers. Dresses get shorter when you get wider. I just had been in cloud Cuckoo land. Anyway I'm glad I've lost the weight, I feel so much better for it.

I turn 40 in the middle of January, and it's summer in Australia, so I just really will feel a million dollars to look slim and healthy and maybe wear a bikini! I feel younger after losing the weight and have a bounce in my step again! I have inline rollerblades on my birthday list! I shall also buy the wrist guards and knee pads!!

It's nice to see everyone being positive on this thread.

bellinique · 19/11/2020 22:48

Hello everyone!

I've been a bit quiet recently but have been lurking and enjoying reading the updates.

Joyeux anniversaire je m'en fous completement (love your username by the way) I hope you had a fabulous day!

Well done to downudderer, brimfulbaba, oxyiz and everyone else doing so well on this thread! And welcome to rebeccanoodles!

As for me, I haven't weighed myself since last Monday's weigh in but have been trying to stick to healthy eating and walking where possible. I've also signed up to a weekly zoom work out with colleagues which would have been unheard of for me before this thread.

Still hoping for a loss on Monday but even if it doesn't happen I know this thread will have improved my habits and I'm so grateful to @PrincessConsuelaBH for starting it Thanks

NibbleQueen · 20/11/2020 09:43

I have been stealthily following the thread and trying to lose weight. Am 5"3 10st3.

For the past 10 days I've been eating avg 1300 calories a day, HIIT twice a week, weights twice a week, 2hrs cycling a week. No alcohol. Moderate carbs (ie eggs at breakfast and soup for lunch), weighing food.

Weighed myself today and have lost NOTHING. Not a sausage. Measured my waist and no change there either.

Is it unreasonable to expect to drop weight after 10 days? Any advice for how to kickstart the weight loss?

BrimfulOfBaba · 20/11/2020 10:17

Your post really made me smile @DownUdderer, you've really smashed it!

@bellinique, zoom workouts sound great - and fun! What are they like?

@NibbleQueen I would say give yourself a month, and take progress photos too. Everyone's bodies works differently at gaining and losing weight. Could you be building muscle? Scales don't account for that. But I would say, if you've not noticed any difference for maybe two months and you are confident you have been giving your exercise your all, and calculating calories accurately, perhaps speak with a doctor. 10 days is too early to worry though I think!

I weighed myself this morning, tentatively as although I've eaten healthily, I've not eaten to as large a deficit as I have over the last few weeks. But saw that I am now just .4 of a lb away from my first mini-goal of 9 stone 5...! This is despite weighing in at 9 stone 10 earlier this week after a boozy weekend. Really really chuffed. Would like to add to the thanks to @PrincessConsuelaBH for starting this thread. The thread you and you wonderful women really are what has kept me on the journey!

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2020 10:28

So much positivity and great progress! Welcome to the newbies too. I agree that waiting three or four weeks to start going down before ditching the plan is sensible. That’s always how it goes for me, then it’s down four or five pounds all at once.

I’ve got horrendous period pain today and I’m just sitting on the sofa with a hot water bottle and a duvet. I’ve cancelled my hiit class. At some point I need to go out for codeine and possible supplies of cake. Day one period, all bets are off. I really hate endometriosis.

In better news, I’ve ordered a size down on jeans and I’m expecting them to fit. Next week when my stomach doesn’t look like a beach ball.

Jemenfouscompletement · 20/11/2020 11:08

Hello Bellinique ! Thanks for your birthday wishes - are you French?

PurpleDaisies I hope you feel better soon. Periods are a dim and distant memory for me, but I was lucky and never suffered much with them. It must be horrible for you.

Brimful I love your positivity!

This is such a nice thread. I had some knee pain when I ran yesterday and this morning it was so bad I couldn't run at all. I can't remember the last time I took time off and it's also really annoying as the scales are horrific, 60.3kg this morning. So no running, much less food (1000 calories less!).
My poor family....

DownUdderer · 20/11/2020 11:08

@NibbleQueen drink loads of water, just loads. More than you think. That always helps me no end.

bellinique · 20/11/2020 11:43

@BrimfulOfBaba I haven't actually done the zoom workout yet, just signed up for it so far... that still means weight loss though doesn't it?! The first one's next week so I will let you know!

@PurpleDaisies sorry to hear that, endometriosis sounds awful. Definitely not a day to be watching what you eat Cake

@Jemenfouscompletement no, not French but I did live there for a short while many years ago and still love the place. I have no idea how you can be the low weight you are when you live there! I still miss the rocher lait chocolates but my scales don't! Sorry you're in pain too, I hope the knee improves soon and you can get back to your running (and eating).

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 20/11/2020 14:35

DownUdderer, you will ROCK on your 40th birthday. Fantastic! It's a great feeling.
Hi NIbblequeen. Hang on in there - you might find that weight loss suddenly kicks in. Have you done one of those Basic Metabolic Rate calculators that tells you roughly how many cals your body needs to just tick over, and also your average daily need? www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html?ctype=metric&cage=63&csex=f&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=10&cpound=160&cheightmeter=169&ckg=70&cmop=0&coutunit=c&cformula=m&cfatpct=20&x=66&y=18#

Oxyiz · 20/11/2020 16:57

NibbleQueen, I'm sure I've read on here that sometimes you need to eatmore because your body is holding tight to every morsel it can get, especially while you're weight training.

Someone more knowledgeable than me might be along to contradict me and say this is all bullshit, but I wonder if you should "up" your calories a bit?

At any rate I try to have at least one massive splurge day or a few days of higher calories every few weeks to keep shaking things up. No great hardship as you can imagine Grin

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 21/11/2020 05:03

Nibblequeen: are you taking a Vit D supplement and making sure you have a full range of Vit B? Both very necessary for keeping our metabolism going.

RebeccaNoodles · 21/11/2020 09:11

@Jemenfouscompletement really sorry about the knee pain, that's v bad luck. I have a video for low impact HIIT if you want an alternative? It's Jessica Valentines Pilates

@NibbleQueen that sounds so frustrating - I'm the same this morning, no movement. You're great to keep going regardless and the needle will move eventually if you keep it up I'm sure

V v rough night here DD awake randomly - she's 3.5 and normally ok at night. I'm exhausted but going to do my run anyway and stick to today's plan: lentil soup for lunch and filo parcels with salmon and spinach and feta
