Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?

PrincessConsuelaBH · 12/10/2020 21:09

So I have approx. 15lbs to lose to get back to my comfortable weight and for my clothes to fit! Thanks to lockdown and a toddler that still doesn't sleep meaning I rely on sugar to get me through the day...

I'm aiming to break it up into 3 5lb mini goals so I don't feel like it's unmanageable before I ever start Grin

Nothing faddy, just planning to make better choices with my food, plan more, and move more too. I have some short-ish term goals that I'm hoping will be enough motivation for me to shift the weight 👶🏻

Anyone want to join? I'd be happy to keep a list going (if there's not too many of us!) to record our weights and losses if anyone would want that too.

Haha @BrimfulOfBaba I think I’ve eaten multiple dinners before 🤣😅 Nice work on the meal prep! I need to follow suit.

@dudsville I’m with you on the calf muscle weight loss dream... moving to a place with lots of stairs has definitely helped with more definition. But still one solid log shape really 🤣

Oxyiz · 17/11/2020 07:38

Hello, do you mind if I join too? I lost almost 2 stone between May and October. Since then I've barely dropped anything and I still have 5lb to go. I don't mind it being slow going, and want to focus more on health overall than just numbers on the scale, but it'd be nice to have people to talk to!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 17/11/2020 08:12

Hi Oxyiz!

Your trajectory sounds a lot like mine. I started mid-may and have lost 11Kg since then, and now I am looking to lose some remaining jelly belly. It does come off faster in the early days, doesn’t it?

But I have been going for an overall adjustment to my diet and lifestyle, which I am not finding a hardship, and am happy with slow and steady weight loss.

theredjellybean you have had some really great weeks, so this is just a blip in the overall picture. You will adjust back fast.

Calf muscles: whenever you find yourself in a queue or standing waiting for the kettle to boil, lift yourself up and down on to tip toes. Good for toning calves.

DownUdderer · 17/11/2020 08:43

I had a yummy dinner, chicken breast, veggies and some brie. So tasty.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 09:32

Welcome @Oxyiz! Those last few pounds are so frustrating. I will add my two cents of make sure you’re measuring as well as weighing (or maybe even instead-I haven’t been brave enough to bin the scales yet). I’m still losing inches even though I’ve been stuck a bit on the scales number.

Yesterday was great until the evening when the pre period carbs craving hit and I are a load of crackers. At least it was post Zumba so I’m not going to feel too bad.

Your dinner sounds lovely @DownUdderer. I got a glut of sprouts in my veg box and tried out a Kung pao roasted sprouts recipe which was really good with rice noodles. Will definitely doing that again. I’ve got some of the glaze left over so that’s going on an aubergine for lunch. Trying to make myself to go and do a Les mills class of any variety but having a motivation fail.

For calves, lots of Pilates balance moves involve standing on tip toes.

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 09:41

Welcome @Oxyiz! Talking to everyone here has definitely kept me sane :) especially during slower weeks.

@momo3w I've just remembered the habit I had a couple of years ago of having a little 'pre-dinner snack' which was actually a whole meal (think a McD's burger, Pret sandwich) before going off to get my actual dinner...! How convenient of me to bury that in my memories Grin

I finished the first 12 weeks of Kayla Itsine's 'Sweat' programme on Sunday, 12 whole weeks of consistent exercise! I have seen a good difference in how my body looks, but weirdly, strength-wise, although my arms feel stronger in burpees, mountain climbers etc, I am now less able to do push ups. Any thoughts as to why?!

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 09:42

@PurpleDaisies that recipe sounds delicious! Is it one you're able to share? I love a sprout.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 09:44

Of course! It’s this one...
cookieandkate.com/kung-pao-brussels-sprouts-recipe/print/24010/

I didn’t bother with the peanuts because I didn’t have any! I’m sure they’d be a good addition though.

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 10:02

Amazing, thank you!

momo3w · 17/11/2020 10:51

@BrimfulOfBaba Congrats on finishing Sweat! I did her bikini body guide a few years ago and it was really intense but I think it was the first workout programme I stuck to and completed. Not sure re the push-ups! I did find the workouts high intensity and a bit more quantity over quality so could it be a form issue? Or maybe your arms are just knackerd and need a rest before you test yourself 😂

Love the pre-dinner meals, mine were usually late night drunken ‘snacks’ ie whole meals too - again McDs and pizza, kebabs etc before getting in a taxi home 😬

momo3w · 17/11/2020 10:53

YUM @PurpleDaisies I’m definitely going to try that!

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 11:04

@momo3w ah, it was bikini body guide 1.0 I finished, Sweat is the app she hosts them all on and I keep mixing them up Blush! I agree it feels a bit quantity over quality, having 7 mins to finish circuits feels very pressurised. Will slow it down for 2.0. Tempted to just skip the 'burpee to push up to tuck jump' move altogether!

I do find I don't lose any weight on the scales if I don't do cardio, will try and make sure I get some quality time with the crosstrainer this week. Podcast recommendations appreciated!

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 11:28

I’d just like to say I’m loving the love for the sprouts!

I’ve just done two 15 minutes getting started with Barre on the Les mills site. It hurt! Lots of seriously achy legs. I suppose that’s good for me.

Miso roast aubergine in the oven for lunch and it will be a cauliflower coconut milk type curry for dinner.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 12:08

I am very pleased with how this turned out...

Vanity pounds to lose - any takers?
BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 12:09

@PurpleDaisies oh my, that is glorious! Which recipe did you use?

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 12:59

Thanks @BrimfulOfBaba
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.kikkoman.eu/recipes/recipe-detail/r/miso-and-honey-roast-aubergine/%3fcHash=9f185fdeb363d60836436fa99bbd30e1&type=53

I scored the aubergine, rubbed about a teaspoon of white miso paste and a drizzle of sesame oil into the flesh. 25mins at 200oC. Then I added about a tablespoon of the leftover Kung pao sauce (which was a mix of soy, sriracha, rice vinegar and maple syrup) over the top with some sesame seeds for another five minutes. I was roasting chunks of aubergine to go with pasta and I didn’t want to get the soy stuff on them! It was really nice.

BrimfulOfBaba · 17/11/2020 13:45

Lush, will be making that next week! Thank you Smile

momo3w · 17/11/2020 19:07

@BrimfulOfBaba Ugh god and those bench hops and 180 jumps... 😫 I’m the same - I need to be eating very little and doing strength training and cardio to see best results. Good luck with 2.0. I’ve heard good things about the Chontel Duncan programmes too!

@PurpleDaisies Keep the recipes coming that is my kind of food! Got an aubergine in the fridge and I order that or something similar any time I see it on a menu so definitely need to give it a go at home!

Welcome @Oxyiz!

@DownUdderer I had a similar dinner and it really hit the spot - chicken breast, vege mash and buttery garlic asparagus soo good.

Oxyiz · 17/11/2020 20:31

Thank you all for the warm welcome Smile I haven't been measuring myself but will start. I know I've gone down from a comfortable size 12 to almost a size 8 from my clothes - its nice to start fitting back into my old stuff.

I love the tip about just stretching more on tiptoes when you're making a cup of tea or something.

I bought a rebounder not too long ago and its been brilliant in making me do exercise, its made it fun which has been the big change for me - I really wish PE had been different when I was younger, it put me off exercise for literal decades!

dudsville · 17/11/2020 20:34

What a beautiful aubergine dish and a tasty sprout recipe!!! Hi Oxyiz!!

Jemenfouscompletement · 17/11/2020 21:12

Oxyiz 2 stone loss is incredible. It's always the last few les that are the most difficult to shift. Good luck!
I listen to mainly radio 4 podcasts, Seriously, Louis Théroux etc.plus Adam Buxton and the doctors Farmacy because I'm into health and nutrition. Plus a few French ones on crime which are good but useless if you don't speak French.

DownUdderer · 17/11/2020 22:19

I'm a pound down this morning. Phew! Just one more pound and then the regaining of those 2 can be forgotten!

BrimfulOfBaba · 18/11/2020 08:47

@oxyiz, 100% agree about PE! It was so unnecessarily humiliating at primary school (had to do it in our pants if we forgot our PE kit) that it really turned me against exercise for almost all my life.

@Jemenfouscompletement, thanks for the recommendations! Doctors farmacy sounds up my street and I love Louis theroux and adam buxton.

Yesterday I really wanted a burger but managed to stick to my planned meal and do a circuit, 30 mins on the cross trainer and a yoga session instead. So relieved. Finally braved the scales this morning and am only part of an lb over what I weighed last week. It can be salvaged!!

BrimfulOfBaba · 18/11/2020 08:48

Phew, feeling you @downudderer, great stuff!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/11/2020 09:53

Daily ups and downs are so random.

I was really good on food yesterday, and did an hour and 20 mins fast walking, much of it uphill, and loads of sit ups - and I was up by 400g this morning.

Bigger picture...overall trend...keep on going!
