Octopus37 · 01/07/2020 08:20

Hi, here is a new thread, Excuse the ultra unoriginal title. Weighed in at 9st0.5, this morning, aim (as it has been for every month since March) is to get under 9st. Cannot believe we are in the second half of this year.

Good morning all, i'm feeling better this morning - will avoid the scales for now though! Plan to head off on a good long walk soon and going to learn how to dart DHs now ill-fitting shirts this afternoon. He's lost 2 stone and now neither of us has a great selection of clothes that fit well.

Enjoy your lovely holidays.

Octopus37 · 26/07/2020 10:18

9st 2 this morning, didn't eat any cake but had a sausage roll, also had a Chinese takeaway and a Strongbow last night. Enough said, but I might suprise you all and reach my July goal if I put my mind to it this week

B bacon sandwich
L watermelon and some crisps
D tuna pasta

Spent 3 hours gardening, very pleased by the results - weeding the school garden which had got totally out of hand because of lockdown. Also cleared a big bed full of nettles and pruned some fruit trees.

RaraRachael · 26/07/2020 16:29

Another week of no weight loss despite walking so much that my legs ache. I've been eating sensibly too - can't remember the last time I had a pudding.

Seriously fed up now.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 26/07/2020 18:55

Ah sorry to hear that Rara, you mentioned calorie counting and slimming world so not sure which one you're using? If CICO, what tdee, calorie target are you going for etc?

Hangoverstruggles · 26/07/2020 21:33

Hi all,

Sorry to hear that @RaraRachael must be very frustrating!

I've absolutely pigged out all weekend. Not leaving until tomorrow so will weigh Tuesday am. It'll be what it'll be but I'm expecting to have to go back on to 1200 cals for a week or so to reset. I've eaten like it's Christmas, plus had my period.

Slight consolation is that I didn't have cooked breakfasts when the others did, and mostly made good choices for lunch. It's just the evening! We're away with family so lots of social eating & drinking!

Today:

B coffee, oats, banana, 1 rasher of bacon
L coffee, churros
D Indian takeaway (veggie balti), 1 trillion popadoms
S crisps, choc, Prosecco

Octopus37 · 27/07/2020 08:35

Had a lazy day yesterday, wasn't feeling great, headache felt yuk, pretty sure its not covid, no cough or loss of taste. This meant a lazy day, too much chocolate etc. 9st2 this morning still. O well, today''s a new day.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/07/2020 08:38

I did walk for 13 miles yesterday but my eating this weekend has been quite high. I'm glad we managed to walk though as it is a miserable rainy day now. Back to normal this week.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/07/2020 08:53

Weighed in this morning and I'm down 2lbs. I'm pleased as that's what I weighed on Saturday morning too so managed to have a day off (bacon sandwich, lasagne and garlic bread, pizza and cake!) and not gain anything. 2lbs is a smaller loss than I'd like but I know that's silly and it's actually very respectable.

Ran both days and did 3 hours of gardening yesterday - school allotment needed a lot of weeding and pruning after lockdown!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/07/2020 08:55

B salmon omelette
L not sure, probably a mackerel salad and rice cakes
D Cajun spices Boston baked beans
S rocky road (I love it. So easy and cheap to make with kids and they both eat it too), watermelon

Heygirlheyboy · 27/07/2020 10:35

Well done honeysuckle!

I have had a complete right off the last few days so I am simplifying today :12k steps, 2.5L water and no junk. Fingers crossed get back on track.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/07/2020 10:47

Eugh rainy Mondays are the worst.
B: Yoghurt, toast and honey
L: Lamb soup
D: Huevos Rotos
S: Well we'll see how the day goes. I made Ferrero Rocher brownies at the weekend and all but one are now in the freezer.

TheHoundsofLove · 27/07/2020 10:51

It sounds like most of us had a weekend off! Grin I didn't run all weekend and ate way too much. And drank quite a lot of wine and a couple of cocktails. But, by some not so minor miracle, my jeans feel looser this morning and I'm another half a pound down! However, I must not be complacent and am back on the straight and narrow as of today!

RaraRachael · 27/07/2020 12:01

Monstera I'm not using any plan as such. In the past I've made a spreadsheet to plan my meals using SW syns. This has been the only surefire way I've found to lose weight and always lost 1-2 pounds per week.

However this time I'm not losing much if any. A friend was walking for an hour every day and lost a stone. I tried this last year and lost nothing. This year I've been walking even more and all I've done is kill my feet Sad

TheHoundsofLove · 27/07/2020 12:25

Rara Maybe it would help to try calorie counting for a couple of weeks?

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/07/2020 12:41

I second calorie counting. With apps like myfitnesspal or lose it, it's much easier than writing out a spreadsheet. If the exercise is there, I guess it must be the food that's stopping your progress. Sorry it's being so frustrating for you, nothing worse than feeling like you're trying really hard but it's not paying off.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/07/2020 13:11

You can't out-exercise a bad diet. And if you've only ever done slimming world you may have a skewed idea of the calorie count of some foods. When I first started counting I was horrified at how high some foods are. I'd also recommend My Fitness Pal as it's easy to use and has a big database.

KatherineParr4 · 27/07/2020 13:13

I would look at the proportions of carbs you are eating. I suspect your diet is too carb heavy. Try and eat more fruit and beg, and more protein and drink a LOT of water. Cut out bread, potatoes , rice and sugar.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/07/2020 13:37

I have to say I completely disagree about cutting out a whole food group. No one food type will make you fat and there is no need to cut anything out completely. Carbs do tend to be high calorie and so I eat smaller portions of them, but there is no need to stop eating them completely. Especially complex carbs like potatoes, they are really good for you.

Certainly the slimming world approach of "piles of pasta, 4 jacket potatoes and some rice" for dinner is a bad idea, but there's nothing wrong with them in sensible portions.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/07/2020 13:45

Hehe, i'm the same honeysuckle. Can't live without carbs (not crabs which is what I first wrote....) Grin. I've lost all my weight on toast for breakfast, chicken noodle soup for lunch and a plate of potatoes for dinner plus some sugary treats. It's all the moderation innit.

I agree about the water though. As Jordan Syatt says, drink water like it's your job!

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/07/2020 13:51

I think low carb diets, as with all others really, are about reducing calories. Maybe you wanna do that by cutting out the best food group carbs, or maybe you wanna do that by barely eating one day, or maybe by meal replacements drinks or maybe counting calories. Whatever method you use, reduce your intake and that's how you lose.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/07/2020 14:13

This. Completely agree
Hangoverstruggles · 27/07/2020 14:27

I was talking to a SW user this weekend (she's not on it now but is an advocate of it) and she kept talking about how much of the 'free food' you can eat on it! I just don't buy it at all.

Tracking calories through My Fitness Pal has worked for me. I've seen theres also an App called Nutricheck which is apparently better for UK. Wish I'd know that as I do get annoyed at things being in Cups on MFP.

I'm home from our little break so trying to be good today. Meals so far / planned:

B coffee,
L smoothie (banana, superfood powder stuff, almond milk), 2 rice cakes with peanut butter
D will be breaded fish, jacket pot, mushy peas and probably a yogurt
S digestive biscuits, square dark choc

1400 so already more than intended today 😳 going to go for a run though.

Well done on your loss @HoneysuckIejasmine!

@Octopus37 hope you're feeling better today Thanks

Heygirlheyboy · 27/07/2020 14:34

Yes to measured carbs! Grin

I'm all about the water today. Definite sugar hangover for me after last few days Confused

B: Greek yoghurt and berries
L: wholemeal wrap toasted with ham, cheese, pesto and peppers
S: carrot with tbsp hummus
D: roast chicken with roast potatoes and roast veg.
Long walk as per every Monday tonight.

TheHoundsofLove · 27/07/2020 14:54

I'm not entirely convinced that low carbing is just about the calorie reduction as aren't carbs metabolised differently by the body? And so a calorie coming from processed carbs doesn't have the same effect on the body as a calorie from fat or protein. But, I agree that a low carb diet isn't sustainable for very many people, so it's a bit of a moot point anyway.
Also, it is possible to out exercise a bad diet. But it would take way more exercise than most people are able/willing to do in their average day. And it obviously depends on what the bad diet is like to start with.
I don't understand SW at all! Grin But, I do know someone that has lost and kept off 8 stones with it (and they're very slim now) so it can work.
