Good idea. Annoyingly I was not allowed to give blood because I had a colonoscopy less than 4 months ago-no idea what the logic of that is.

Still it’s an extra couple of miles walking in my day. I can give from the beginning of July so will rebook now.

They are very on the side of caution. I never used to be allowed to give because I’d had a boyfriend who was a haemophiliac. Have donated regularly since they changed that rule but that’s two times in a row I’ve not been able to.

Will make a new appointment and get lots of iron in and hopefully be able to donate next time. Have you given before? They’re wearing masks and getting you to answer covid qs before entering and then having you wash your hands before going into main area. All seemed good

MonsteraCheeseplant · 02/06/2020 14:59

It's been a while but I have donated blood before. I did wonder if they would even test the blood drawn for covid.

Can I join? Yesterday I braved the scales, and despite taking up jogging over lockdown I'm just 1kg below my heaviest ever (which was a couple of years ago). Confused Blush And my thighs have started rubbing together. Bleugh.

I'm doing keto/low carb as I find strict rules the only way to stop myself eating chocolate & crisps.

I'm 75kg. 65 would be ideal.

RaraRachael · 02/06/2020 15:15

I am disgusted at the size of my belly. I am a size 12 all over, but have a roll of fat where I'd like there to be a flat stomach. I am WFH so too many opportunities to eat when I want and have been baking, and as there are only the 2 of us in the house, eating it too.

I have started walking every day when it isn't raining, trying to eat a lot less and doing some sit ups and planking every day too. So far it's going ok - only one week in thought.

Good luck everybody Grin

everycowandagain · 02/06/2020 15:52

Hi all. Going to try to keep checking in this time! I am sticking to 1500 calories a day, aiming for plenty of fruit and veg and watching portion size.

Doing OK today, grapefruit and skyr yoghurt for breakfast, nakd bar snack, omelette and salad for lunch, ginger dark chocolate biscuit just now and a vegetable tortellini soup later. With extra veg! No exercise today, i have trained the last 3 days so it's a rest day for me.

Octopus37 · 02/06/2020 17:43

HoneyBadger, you have reminded me to sign up to do this again, I used to many moons ago before the kids. In the new house we will be a bit nearer to a donor centre, fab to hear about the 650 calories. Used to love all the crisps and biscuits you got afterwards. V relieved about the exchange, very relieved but v busy and stressed, could go one way or another re weight loss or gain, we'll see. Sounds as if everyone is doing well, some of the meals sound lovely.

Hangoverstruggles · 02/06/2020 19:02

Honey, I gave in April for the first time in a little while. I was motivated to do it after hearing the numbers had dropped since the outbreak. I was really impressed with the precautions they had in place.

Welcome @Duckyneedsaclean and @RaraRachael and any other newbies. I've found this group really good for lovely solidarity, everyone just doing their own thing, no judgement.

Yesterday I had a good day, until the evening when I had a platter of cheese, meats, crisps etc. I definitely went over my cals, but had a lovely time doing it!

Today has been good to make up for it!

B coffee (16:8)
L overnight oats, berries, a banana
D bean chilli and small portion of rice
S Choc (130 cals), apricots, bread sticks & dip

Still have a little left for a snack later!

How are you all coping in the heat? 26 here today. I think it helps my appetite but makes me reluctant to do any exercise!!

TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 19:54

Roasting here and walking 2 mile round trip to not give blood was pretty hot.

Bless you going through a house purchase at this time octopus. I have moved a lot in my life but I still hate the actually having to pack up and move everything.

Currently baking potatoes to have with mackerel and cheese. Had two boiled eggs earlier and may have accidentally had a couple of glasses of wine. Tons of activity and already over my calorie burning target.

Fingers crossed for kind scales tomorrow.

Welcome to the newcomers. Trying not to weep at the idea of size 12 having room for a massive belly. I try to remember our feelings are subjective to our body regardless of what size we are.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 02/06/2020 21:09

I am loving the temperature. I see that it is due to drop by 10 degrees tomorrow Sad.

B: Yoghurt
L: Chicken stew
D: Jambalaya (with Pearl Barley instead of rice, only 331 calories and really filling)
S: Reese's miniatures (16 cals each! Great treat), Skips and french fancies

Went for a jog/walk this evening, about 5 miles. Happy to be back at it.

Hangoverstruggles · 02/06/2020 21:26

I've seen pearl barley mentioned a lot recently. Do you cook it the same as you would risotto rice? Will add some to my list! And well done on your 5 miles @Monstera

Well done on all your activity too TheHoneyBadger. I've sat at my desk for over 10 hours and now on sofa! planning an early morning run as no work for me tomorrow.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 02/06/2020 21:37

Thanks Grin
Pearl Barley needs boiling for 30 minutes, so not that much longer than risotto rice and the same as brown rice which I was previously using. It's lower cal than rice, more al dente. I like it a lot.

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 02/06/2020 22:01

Hmm may try pearl barley. Could you add it into a stew in the slow cooker and let it cook in there? You cook more ‘proper’ meals in a day than I do in a week monster.

I had my jacket potato and managed to walk off a craving for something sweet with the dog.

Have apparently burned 2500 calories today and eaten lightly so I should be well on the right side of the cals in, cals out equation.

I’ve loved the weather. So much easier to get out walking when all you need is to pop some shoes on and grab your sunglasses and a poo bag.

I’m in bed with a hot concoction of lemon, honey, garlic and turmeric with a splash of whiskey. MEdicinal of course, for my sinuses

TheHoundsofLove · 03/06/2020 05:56

Honey Pearl barley's perfect for a stew - but don't add too much as it really absorbs moisture and acts as a thickener. A couple of tbsp is plenty.

EndlessUserName · 03/06/2020 07:43

Pearl barley sounds lovely in stews I'll have to try it. I use tinned barley loads to make this risotto - www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/spinach-barley-risotto%3famp it's easy to switch it up with the veg too, I love leeks so I usually do it with twice the leeks and peas instead. Very filling and low cal and lots of veg

Yesterday I managed another super strict day to undo the Chinese takeaway damage! Going to go back to normal now but still need to keep in mind that I know we'll have our usual Indian on Friday... So will try to save up a bit for then

Octopus37 · 03/06/2020 08:02

Morning, did okish yesterday, although eating lots of oven chips at the moment cause we're trying to finish off all our food. Weighed 9st0.75 this morning. Hope everyone has a good day.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 03/06/2020 08:30

@TheHoneyBadger "all you need is to pop some shoes on and grab your sunglasses and a poo bag." I hope you've got a dog Grin
I don't actually cook everyday as it might seem. I just batch cook my lunches at the beginning of the week and most dinners make 2-3 nights. I don't like sandwiches and salads don't last the week without going over. It's just the easier option for me. Pearl Barley is brilliant in stews, I use it very liberally, I like a substantial stew and my soups usually resemble stews tbh!

@StopFundingHate I have never heard of tinned barley (is it the same as pearl barley?) but what a great idea! Don't know why it hadn't occurred to me sooner 'cos i've seen tinned lentils. Thank you for the recipe recommendation Smile.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 08:38

Thanks hounds. I like substantial but ds has texture issues (I did too as a kid) so I better go easy.

And yes I do have a dog monster Grin

Scales are being stubborn but I’m reassuring myself I’ve been doing the right things so it has to pay off sometime.

Aiming for a decent length fast and a very low cal meal after. Just walked the dog with ds and felt drops of rain. Temperature has really dropped.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 09:05

Just did my online shop. No mars ice creams but I have decided to try halo top sea salt and caramel. Please god let it be a good substitute for Haagen Dazs. Also got pearl barley to try.

EndlessUserName · 03/06/2020 10:25

@TheHoneyBadger have you watched Jordan syatt on YouTube? He talks a lot about weight fluctuation and a downward trend rather than always losing weight every time you weigh. It's really interesting and I always think of him when I 'dont lose weight', it helps me realise that overall I'm doing well :)

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 03/06/2020 10:30

Hi all,
Just catching up with the thread. Glad your house has gone through @Octopus37.
I've had a couple of days eating far too much and then a week of not tracking and put on nearly 2lbs, which I don't feel too bad about. Overall I'm 3lbs down on the month
Aims for June:
Plan more meals in advance & include more veg & fruit
Make sure I get my 10,000 steps in each day
Manage a few yoga videos
Loose at least 3lbs overall (which will take me to the illusive 1 stone loss), ideally more than that.
Keep tracking

poorbuthappy · 03/06/2020 10:31

Can I join please?
I started on Monday having put on about 10lbs during lockdown and feeling very peri menopausel so have a huge belly.

I have also got my period today but am sticking to the diet which I think means my head in the right place and I'm not looking for excuses (which I do alot).
I am doing 1200 calories a day combined with 16:8.

Starting weight 11st 10lbs
I am also looking forward to walking the dog this evening without sweating my tits off!!!

RaraRachael · 03/06/2020 10:49

Thank you for welcoming me to the fold. I guess I need to lose about a stone as I'm heavier than I've ever been (apart from pregnancy). I had made the excuse that it was menopausal, but I just hate the way I look.

So far today I have done my exercises and been for a 3km, rather blustery walk - I can't believe the dip in temperature after yesterday's hour-long beach walk.

i'm trying to eat sensibly from old Scottish Slimmers and Slimming World plans. My worst sin is chocolate so trying to have that as a real treat.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/06/2020 15:47

Welcome rara

I’m still fasting. Not very active today really. Maybe tired from previous few days of being more active than usual or maybe the change in weather. I either need to get my butt moving or commit to fasting through to breakfast tomorrow.

TheHoundsofLove · 03/06/2020 15:48

Hi to all! I hope everyone's having a positive day.
I feel like I've got off to a decent start this week and am keeping to my June pledges. Restaurants have been open again for a couple of weeks here, so we're going out for a pizza tonight. I did run and do the Shred (which I'd forgotten was so good) this morning, so am hoping there won't be too much damage done. I'm also thinking of having a fast day tomorrow.
Octopus I'm sorry if I've missed you already saying, but have you moved yet?

Octopus37 · 03/06/2020 18:54

Hi, welcome RaraRachel and poorbuthappy. Have stuffed myself with carbs today, waffles, crisps, chocolate, pizza, also having a virtual pub night so expecting a gain tomorrow. Life is just too busy and stressful at the moment, we are moving on 11th June. Meant to be working from home (self-employed) but not getting much done in between packing an home schooling. Also got to take DS to the dentist tomorrow, he knocked a tooth out resulting in having it built and a root canal. The root canal needs redoing and half of the tooth came out. No pain cause there are no nerves but will mean a 2 hour appointment, horrible though I sound, thats at three and a half hours out of my day. Hate the way everything falls to Mums, my DH works shifts and does what he can but I feel that the current situation really highlights how Mums get the worse deal and have to suck it up. Sorry rant over. Feel that I shouldn't even be having virtual drinks tonight as I should be working but I need some interaction that isn't work in some shape or form related. Really hope that the kids can go back to school as normal in September but really starting to wonder.
