Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I think my low mood is purely food related 😂😂
I like my snacks and food is a big enjoyment for me. Never been much of a dieter or much for restricted what I eat.

Think I need to focus on small chances like someone said previously and build up!

Cathy31 · 29/05/2020 15:21

@Lurkingforawhile I'm soooo struggling these days but what worked before was

  • if there's 'treat' food - biscuits, cake etc in the house, I'd have it as dessert so I was less tempted to have it as a snack (also meant I ate less of it as I'd be full from the main meal).
  • identifying the worst time - always around 2.30/ 3, and 8pm ish for me - and doing something else, away from the kitchen. That's why I'm on Mumsnet right now Grin
  • brushing my teeth when I want to snack
  • telling myself 'I don't snack'. I don't know why, but this really helps!! It worked when I decided to stop having sugar in my tea, and to stop eating chips - I now actually don't take sugar in hot drinks, or eat chips, ever, and don't even think of them as things I'd want.
All fine to say, but I am finding it hard to do!!!

@AIMD me too, feeling a bit low every evening this week despite all the exercise. I think it's a food thing for me too, hopefully my body will adjust!

Joining you...slight issue, no scales but finding the chat inspiring. I have been getting on well with 16:8 and find an evening walk 8.30ish listening to a podcast or calling a friend helps distract from the wine!

Lurkingforawhile · 30/05/2020 08:58

Given I have most issues with food between lunch and dinner I'm going to try 16:8 this week. It seems quite popular on here! I do know that I can't just eat whatever I want during that time but I'm going to see if it works for me.

fia101 · 30/05/2020 09:03

I hear yah

10st 10 - 5ft 7

I'm okay at 10st 4 (for me)

I'm generally okay through day - overnight oats with fat free yoghurt and egg muffins from pinch of nom but evenings not great - too many rich tea biscuits (my diet biscuits) and plain popcorn. I bought popcorn kernels as free on ww but it's not working.

I'm doing about 6k steps a day way below my usual.

Been on treadmill a few times

Weight creeping up though and makes me feel down. Puts me in hibernation mode

Turquoisesea · 30/05/2020 09:47

Can I join. I would like to lose at least 10lbs. I’m 50, 5 ft 5 and currently 10st 5lbs. I really want to get back to 9st 7lbs which I haven’t been for a couple of years. Before lockdown I was doing 16:8 and was about 10st. Since lockdown I’ve just been snacking far too much, eating all the wrong things and drinking too much. All my clothes are now tight. I really need to motivate myself to do more exercise and be more mindful of what I’m eating.

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 30/05/2020 10:13

Well, I have weighed myself twice this morning, 1st was 11st 0.25lbs and 2nd was 10st 13.25lbs. I’m not sure the 30mins of yoga I did this morning actually burned off half a lb but I’m taking it as a win! Got to my week’s target of under 11 stone. Now to keep it up!

I’m not officially doing 16:8, but I have been skipping breakfast unless I’m actually hungry. It’s interesting learning the difference between habit eating and eating because I’m hungry 🙂

Lurkingforawhile · 30/05/2020 10:53

@keirstarmerdonkeyfarmer well done! I think weekly targets are a good idea. Do you weigh every day? I read an interview with a specialist in obesity yesterday and she talked about never eating when she’s not hungry. I realised I do that a lot.

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 30/05/2020 11:27

I only really had a target for this week because I was 11st 2 and wanted to get to under 11. But maybe I’ll stick with a 2lbs a week target. It’s supposed to be the sensible amount to lose isn’t it?

In normal life I often snack when I’m hungry, then sit down for a meal a couple of hours later even though I’m not hungry because of the snacks. Which isn’t great.

lorisparkle · 30/05/2020 12:17

Could I join too. I managed to put on over a stone since lockdown began and really want to get rid of it. I realised that at work I am really busy (physically) and don't have much time to eat and of course now I am at home I am not moving around as much and food is just always 'there'

My main challenge is 'snacking' whilst making the evening meal. Anyone got any tips on how to stop - my willpower is rubbish!!!

Lurkingforawhile · 30/05/2020 13:03

@lorisparkle it seems a few of us have the same issue with snacking whilst cooking dinner. And then feeling too full after dinner! I don't have any solutions, but I like the idea of just telling yourself you're not going to do it (was that you @KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer?). If you've come across the power of why you'll know the most important thing is not what or how but why, and for me the why is because I want to enjoy my dinner and hate that too full feeling. Not sure if that'll be enough tho.

CalmConfident · 30/05/2020 15:04

OK...borrowed the neighbours scales and bang on 60kg. I was 69kg a year ago - made steady progress on 16:8. Would love to get to 57kg.

PeasandCucumbers · 30/05/2020 15:39

I had a couple of days last week where I really struggled but managed to stay on track. I decided a key factor for me is being prepared with my meal plan so I don’t get to a point in the day and think “I’m really hungry” and not know what I can eat that is low calorie and not an omelette (I seem to have eaten a lot of those!)

Yesterday and today have been really positive though and I think that is down to being active. I cycled 10km yesterday morning around 8.30 and I felt that set me up well for the day. Today we got up super early and went and watched the sunrise from some nearby hills. DH and I did go back to bed after, DD stayed up. And now I have just cycled around 23km with some inclines in there too. My cycling is fine as long as I am on the flat, any small incline and I lose all speed and power! But regardless of that I feel great for doing it Grin

I am a daily weigher and as predicted the loss is still proving to be slow! I would love to be hitting 2lbs per week but not sure if that is really realistic as I am not prepared to give up wine / Prosecco completely!

I hope everyone is enjoying this sunshine ☀️ morning

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 30/05/2020 18:48

Hello everyone and congratulations on weight loss and fresh motivation for more. I have been walking a lot, doing my home ballet/Pilates workouts and managing to drink more water and eat more veg as planned. I have weighed in at 60.5kg two days running, from a previous of 61.3, so I am taking that as a firm indication that my progress is in the right direction. I did have the slice of cake that I'd been promising myself today (keeping a local business going as well as they emerge from lockdown with a takeaway service).

My plantar fascitis and tender Achilles tendons seem to have flared again, after months and months of no problems. I don't know if this is the extra walking, which seems bad luck if so. I have got as far as pumping up the tyres on my bike, but haven't yet got it out of the garage. What kind of distances would I need to cover to get the benefit?

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 31/05/2020 12:01

I got the bike out yesterday and went for a 45 minute cycle, which included hills - thank goodness for low gearing! I think I burned around 250 calories, and my legs felt a bit jelly afterwards. I had a good stretch and dinner, and my feet and tendons were better overnight and this morning. I was a bit nervous about cycling but there are many more cycle paths around than when I first got the bike (um, 21 years ago) and I'm keen to reduce my car usage as well. Felt good! I had forgotten how 'elevated' your position feels on a bike.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 31/05/2020 12:11

So pleased to have found this thread! I have put on about 9lb in lockdown and struggling to shift it. Really struggling. Am cutting out booze during the week and reducing my insane portion sizes.

Lurkingforawhile · 31/05/2020 14:53

@BorsetshireBlueBalls I don't go far on my bike at all - about 7.5 miles today and def feel some benefit in my lungs and legs. I also saw some very cute tiny goslings!

lorisparkle · 31/05/2020 15:56

I was feeling really proud of myself yesterday. Managed not to snack whilst cooking tea and no evening snacking. However today I had my lunch then because I did not want to waste food, finished off ds's lunch. Aaaarrrggghhh!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 31/05/2020 16:53

@lorisparkle - can you freeze food, even a small amount, that you don't want to waste? Get a stock of those foil containers in for the purpose? Congrats on getting through the difficult evening stretch without snacking.

I have barely moved today. I have the new Hilary Mantel to read, which I have been promising myself for a good while, and I finished a writing task, also sitting on my to-do list for a while. I am idly planning a Pilates/ballet workout for later, but have decided that not every day can be about exercise and weightloss!

managedmis · 31/05/2020 16:57

I'll join if that's OK.

I've also gained 10 pounds, over the past year, but certainly 5 of those were in the early lockdown days where I was giving less of a fuck and just wanted to eat stodge.

I've cut out booze too as I was drinking waaay too much, that along with pasta bake, pie, dessert, dark chocolate etc.

Now I'm on my usual, back-to-it breakfast of eggs and yog, soup and salad for lunch then BBQ meat and more salad/veg for dinner.

Snacks are fruit, veg, cottage cheese.

It's very tough, I'll be honest but I'm a different person at 133 lbs!

Lurkingforawhile · 31/05/2020 17:04

@lorisparkle one of my colleagues said something interesting to me last year. She said if you were full already then eating more food was as much of a waste as putting it in the bin. It made a lot of sense to me!

Bourbonbiccy · 31/05/2020 17:08

I've got about 6lb to shift as over 8st now, but just don't have the motivation. We were/are due to go on holiday in sept, but I doubt we will go, the thought of the holiday would have normally kept me on track.

I say this after baking peanut butter, choc chip cheesecake pie and getting take out pizza and garlic bread, so the determination is just not there.

Figgygal · 31/05/2020 17:15

Joining
Im going to hit it hard in June and see what I achieve
I’m 5ft 10 and usually 12 stone 7 I’m happy with that don’t need to be stick thin but I’m now 13 stone 1
I’m 40 next year and want to get down nearer to 12 in the future

2 kids and no exercise means I’m wobbly as hell so want to tone dreadfully
Planning on a 40th overseas holiday so want to be back in a bikini

Good luck all

PowerslidePanda · 31/05/2020 18:27

Hi, can I join please?

I've lost 19 lb already but am still 5 llb away from a healthy BMI and ideally want to lose at least another 10. But I can feel my motivation wavering ("I've already done well - it's not so bad if I give myself a break now..."), so hoping that this thread will keep me going!

lorisparkle · 31/05/2020 20:43

@BorsetshireBlueBalls thanks for the encouragement, I do try and put leftovers in the fridge freezer but unfortunately this dinner was already a leftover dinner and could not risk heating it up twice.

I do like your colleagues suggestion Lurking I will try and get in a better mindset.

I have managed 4lb in the last couple of weeks it just seems so slow. So not only am I lacking willpower but patience as well!!
