Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Ooh, well done @GreyBudgie! You look great. Does this mean you're the thread's first graduate?! Can I ask how much you lost since joining the thread?

I'm fluctuating between 8st 6 and 8st 8 at the moment, which I suppose isn't too bad after the hormonal horrors of last week. I'm going to try and double down on my dieting efforts now that I'm feeling a bit brighter (for eg, whilst I've been thinking that I've been mainly sticking to my 1200 a day and two 500 fast days, I've been a bit lax with recording on MFP, so I might be inadvertently lying to myself Blush) and I'm also going to try and force myself to get into exercise of some sort.

I've actually realised that so much of my life revolves around my hair... it's very curly and I straighten the shit out of it, so I'm very reluctant to get sweaty unless my hair is just about to be washed. Excuses, excuses Grin...

GreyBudgie · 27/07/2020 15:39

@clevername I think I lost about 2kg, but I was using very inaccurate manual scales at the start.

I love the weight training. Life as a 24/7 sole carer is lonely, boring and soul destroying. Exercise is the only thing that makes me happy.

You are so near your goal! Personally I would do 800 cals on a fast day as 500 is so low, I think it's making it harder for you to stick to it. Good luck.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 27/07/2020 20:33

@GreyBudgie well done!!! You look fab!! Great work.

Indecisivelurcher · 27/07/2020 22:03

@greenbudgie and @powerslidepanda I am looking forward to a maintenance thread too please hint hint will you start one? Scales showing 1lb under my target weight now so anything left in assuming is about toning up. I'm adding in more fruit and veg as my 5+ a day had slipped in a bid to watch Cals.

GreyBudgie · 27/07/2020 22:09

@Indecisivelurcher Congratulations! It's so positive that everyone is thinking about fitness and health, not just the numbers on the scale.

Indecisivelurcher · 27/07/2020 22:14

If there's anyone called greenbudgie they're going to get an odd tag from me @greybudgie

GreyBudgie · 27/07/2020 22:21

@Indecisivelurcher Its fine, I am the budgie formerly known as Green Grin

PowerslidePanda · 28/07/2020 08:09

Congratulations, @GreyBudgie and @Indecisivelurcher! Fantastic to see people reaching their target weights! (And you look amazing, @GreyBudgie!)

I'm still at least a month away myself (only lost 1lb in the last 2 weeks, despite an 8000 calorie deficit in that time - grrr!), so please do feel free to go ahead and start a maintenance thread rather than waiting for me!

I'm exercising daily still, but have only managed 2 hula hoop sessions so far. The hoop has lots of bumps in it (I assume where the weighting is) and they leave me bruised and tender for days afterwards! Hoping my body will get more used to it so I can up the frequency. I think my arms are starting to look a bit better from the weights though!

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 28/07/2020 16:52

Brilliant work Budgie and Lurcher (what with Cat and Panda, we've got quite the animal-themed thread here), and bon courage à tous for losses to come.

I haven't stepped on the scales since I last recorded 59.5kg around 10 days ago. Having finally got below 60kg and stayed there for 3 consecutive weigh-ins I was frightened to step back on! Silly I know. I haven't been exercising as consistently (we're having work done in the house and I have needed to be around a lot) but have managed 7k walks and good stretches the last 2 days, so feeling better.

BUT: I tried on my 'target trousers' today and they felt pretty good! Granted, this was before I'd eaten anything, and another kilo shed will make them better still, but - you know, no complaints.

I found a great arm work out - Pilates with Ange, YouTube. She does a 12 minute standing workout, which also makes you work your balance, abs, thighs and calves. It's bloody amazing actually.

Right, will head off on my walk, and if the next couple of days go well, will get back on the scales. Is that mad - only weighing yourself if you think the results will be OK?

GreyBudgie · 28/07/2020 18:12

@BorsetshireBlueBalls Congratulations on getting to comfortable in your target trousers! I hope the scales reflect your efforts.

overweightcat · 29/07/2020 15:32

Have been very on and off it past couple of weeks probably in part to being so tired for some reason, but I have managed to maintain at around 64.5kg with the weight slowly creeping down towards 63.8ish recently.
Managed a 15 min HIIT and 7min ab workout yesterday which was the first workout I've done in days and just under 12k steps and I was feeling good.

Today started off well, took DCs to a playground, got home and just feeling under the weather, not sure if it's lack of any vitamin or water or if I'm actually coming down with something.
On my 3rd coffee ATM and already managed to have 1 packet of crisps, 1 chocolate covered rice cake bar, 1 slice of mr.kiplings lemon cake and an Aldi moser Roth chocolate bar thing Blush

Can't.get.motivated.

Lurkingforawhile · 29/07/2020 18:19

Hi all. So nice to check back in and see what great progress people have made. I haven't been here because I'm ashamed at how badly I'm doing and my lack of willpower. I have lost and gained back the same two pounds about five times over the last four weeks. No excuses, just been rubbish.

GreyBudgie · 29/07/2020 19:14

@overweightcat @Lurkingforawhile
Congratulations on maintaining, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Life and family get difficult at times, it's impossible to be perfect, it's an achievement to keep working at it.

Lurkingforawhile · 29/07/2020 21:18

Thanks @GreyBudgie. I've just had a look through MFP and I've been averaging 1370 cals a week (net) so can definitely get that down, and also I am having too much fat and not enough protein so something to work on

Indecisivelurcher · 30/07/2020 07:16

I've put 2lb back on. Probably because I haven't done any calorie counting, and had a kids birthday party with cake and a bbq with cocktails... Think maintaining is going to be hard!

clevername · 30/07/2020 22:06

Yeah, I'm getting increasingly worried about maintaining as it seems to be so incredibly easy for those pounds to creep back on, yet it's horribly difficult to get rid of them again! I mean, I know this isn't exactly news (it's kind of the central tenet of weight loss and why it's so bloody hard to do!) but it does seem very unfair sometimes.

I also I think I might have done something bad to my metabolism (I remember a few people talking about this upthread but I don't really know much about it) because I'm not really getting very far, despite my two 500 cal fast days and mostly sticking to 1200 in an 8 hour eating window on the other days. I know that exercise (more importantly, my lack of it) is a big factor in this but surely such a large weekly deficit should yield more exciting results?! Even without much exercise (I'm not totally sedentary - my phone usually tells me I've done 10000 steps and I must do more than that because I don't always have it on me.)?!

I've got 6lbs to go, but I've been at this point for ages and I can't seem to get any lower. I keep telling myself I've done well (I've lost 10lbs so far since May) but it's hard to feel motivated right now.

Lurkingforawhile · 31/07/2020 08:42

@clevername from what I've read the obvious answer seems to be to build up muscle. Esp important for women getting a bit older. Most of my exercise doesn't build muscle so I know I need to work on that.

GreyBudgie · 31/07/2020 09:15

@Lurkingforawhile @clevername

I really rate strength training, I had to stop running in my 40's due to knee issues. I plan to use weights well into my 60's.

Weight training helps with with bone density too. I use a cheap sets of Argos plates and bars, but you can start with a set of resistance bands to progressively build your strength. Must admit I'm not a fan of kettle bells as people get soft tissue injuries throwing them around and they don't help you even unbalanced between dominant/weaker arm/leg.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 31/07/2020 09:37

I have just weighed myself and I'm 58.1kg! That's 2kg lost in a month which is a quick loss for me and 6.8kg since I began monitoring. I will surely fluctuate upwards through the day but at this moment I am 100grams off my target and the lightest I have been in years.

Lurkingforawhile · 31/07/2020 10:12

@GreyBudgie I've been doing squats and lunges at home but I have a shoulder injury so can't lift weights. Also explains why my arms have got so flabby!

Indecisivelurcher · 31/07/2020 19:37

I do a lot of exercises for my glutes and core, pilates type, all to help retrain my muscles following prolapsed discs. I'd be interested to add some weights in. There's a temptation to go for cardio isn't there.

Today is a lesson in self discipline for me, I would have been fine on Cals IF ONLY I hadn't eaten 3tsp of chocolate frosting left over from the other day, because I didn't want to 'waste' it. I didn't even enjoy it really!

Off to do pilates and then i'll probably have a gin anyway, because, well, children. Tomorrow's a new day.

Lurkingforawhile · 01/08/2020 09:46

@Indecisivelurcher I'm sure I've said this further up the thread but a colleague said to me that if you eat something you don't need / want it's as much of a waste as putting it in the bin!

Indecisivelurcher · 01/08/2020 09:55

It's my environmental ethics. But yes.

Indecisivelurcher · 01/08/2020 19:18

I've just been reading up about ideal weight and calories for my baseline metabolic taste... Quite interesting reading, and the two do not tally up! Apparently there's this thing called HAMWI to calculate your ideal weight. That puts me at 120lb /8st 8. I think I went through 8st 8 aged about 12... At my fittest, pre kids, lots of dog walks, dog agility and some fairly serious running, I was 9 stone. People were commenting that I was looking ill and I was actively trying to eat more. (I know Blush). So then I worked out my BMR which came up as needing to eat 1421 cals a day. No way do those two tally up! So I went back on Mfp and changed that to say maintain my weight, and it gives me 1580 cals. So based on my maths I wonder if that's a bit high for me, which could explain why when I got to what I think is my target weight (my trousers fit better!), I immediately put 2lb back on. Thoughts from the group? The calculations I used were on wiki how.
