Anyone need to lose a stone or less and needs motivation?

Flippetydip · 18/05/2020 12:15

Not that I can provide the motivation but hey ho, I thought perhaps if there were more of us it might help!

I'm currently 10 stone 12 and 5 foot 7. My fighting weight is 10 stone and I would like to get back down to this.

Lockdown has seen me put on at least half a stone. A bad back has seen me stop running and lack of school runs means a distinct deduction in time on my feet.

Anyone else in the same boat?

@Flippetydip @Ilovetolurk hats off to you doing fasting days! It's something I've tried before but I get such bad migraines and too fewer calories really brings them on.

I've been doing around 1200 calories a day which I thought would be tough but tracking on MyFitnessPal coupled with a workout at least 4 times a week I've got calories left over as it's bringing my 'balance' down 👍🏼

Pannacottaformeplease · 21/05/2020 09:45

I'd like to join in too please. Trying to get back to 9 stone but that magic number has been eluding me for many years. I'm so much happier at 9 stone - everything fits as it should and I'm much more confident. I try to low carb generally but in recent years I've got a bit "flexible" with it and not adhering to it strictly enough for it to work properly - all it does is allow me to maintain rather than lose.

greytminds · 21/05/2020 15:40

Can anyone recommend a fitness tracker? The spendy side of me is tempted by an Apple Watch but I’m sure I wouldn’t really make the most of its functionality....

MargotMoon · 21/05/2020 15:53

Can I join? I'm 45, 5'7 and have crept up to 11st, at least half of that since lockdown started. Ideally I'll lose a stone but aiming to get back to 10.5 and stay there initially.

Really feeling the jelly belly recently. Been eating sweet stuff like it's going out of fashion recently. Working from home is a blessing and a curse!

MargotMoon · 21/05/2020 16:03

I use the Nutracheck calorie counter. I've taken waist measurements as well as weight.

When I'm working at work I do a version of 16:8 on weekdays which works well for me - lunch at 12, dinner at 7ish, no snacking. Then pretty much eat what I like at weekends.

So much harder being at home. Especially when I keep buying bloody chocolate! Grin

StarcourtMall · 21/05/2020 16:41

I’m fasting today. So far I’ve had a small banana, apple, green tea and a regular tea and 3 glasses of water. Going to have egg on toast for dinner. I’m really pleased I’ve managed 4 days without alcohol as I haven’t managed that for ages. I’ve also bought some vodka and zero calorie coke for the weekend as I would probably only drink 2 of those in an evening, unlike wine where I would drink the whole bottle!

Ilovetolurk · 21/05/2020 17:30

Just had a chicken breast stirfried in soy sauce with a 227cal noodle packet. So ravenous I could have fricasséed the cat.

@Flippetydip you’re right the best approach is to hold off eating as long as possible. I will eat lunch later next time

Cathy31 · 21/05/2020 20:01

Terrible two days here, both DC and I have come down with something (how, on lockdown???) So I've done no exercise and have eaten whatever appealed (which was never anything healthy...) Feeling a bit better this evening so hopefully back on track tomorrow...

Lurkingforawhile · 21/05/2020 20:04

Oh yes, me too. 13 pounds in fact, although I've already lost two. Trying something new for me - a food journal. It's working well and I'm enjoying it too

Lurkingforawhile · 21/05/2020 20:11

I jumped in a bit too quickly! I'm 5 foot 1 1/2 and weight 9,7. Most of what's gone on in the last year is round my waist and I hate how uncomfortable that makes me. I also have the 5 o'clock nibbles. I'm doing this slowly so giving myself until Sept (when I'm hoping we might be able to have a week away self catering somewhere in England)

AIMD · 21/05/2020 21:12

What scales do you all have. I have the worst ones. So need to get some better ones.

Karcheer · 21/05/2020 21:16

I've eaten way too much chocolate today :(
i need to cut out rubbish food.

I think from tomorrow im banning crisps...

Did another online yoga class.

Im seeing this as a long term thing as well, it's going to take awhile as i need to change habits and recreate new ones!

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 21/05/2020 21:53

I’ll tag along. I am 5’5 and am usually happy wavering somewhere between 10 to 10.5 stone. About three years ago I touched 9.5 stone and felt great but it has been a steady increase since then (almost from the moment I turned 40!). I have now tipped over 11stone and need to do something about it.

I know what I need to do as I have done it before, it’s just bloody hard work and I’m really annoyed with myself that I’m here again.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 21/05/2020 23:33

Hello - can I join too? All these posts sound just like me - am 50, 5'6" and am at my heaviest ever, currently 10 st 6. Would like to get back to 9 st 7 please! Am feeling a bit glum today because I've been doing a decent amount of exercise for the last three weeks and just can't seem to shift any weight. Am in week 5 of C25K, yesterday I ran in the morning and did a 3-hour walk in the afternoon, felt great til I weighed myself today and was actually slightly heavier than the previous week - sigh. So could do with some extra motivation!

Flippetydip · 22/05/2020 06:28

Morning - and welcome to everyone who is joining us. The more the merrier :)

I totally bombed out on the fast day yesterday, was unbelievably rubbish. @Ilovetolurk - I really felt I'd let you down!

That notwithstanding, I didn't eat in the evening and haven't this week. Have had no alcohol and very limited bread. I weighed myself this morning and was 10.9.6 - from my starting of 10.12, so that is a step in the right direction. However, the real challenge will be keeping that steady over the weekend.

@greytminds - I have an Apple watch but only because work gives us health insurance through Vitality and they offered one for £30 as long as you did a certain amount of exercise for 2 years - which I did. It wasn't terribly arduous. I do love my watch but it does get a bit compulsive with trying to hit certain targets each day. The downside is that you're never away from anyone as it links to your phone, so even at the table etc you get texts, which I don't really like. It also needs charging every night, without fail. It probably doesn't have the battery life for a full marathon - but those days are way behind me so it's not vital.

Hollyhead · 22/05/2020 06:30

Yes me! I only have blooming 4-5lb to lose, and actually I’m exercising more than ever. If I can just get a bit of a calorie deficit going it will melt off.

Lurkingforawhile · 22/05/2020 08:40

I've been doing quite a bit of exercise recently but managed to hurt the top of my foot last weekend through walking too much. In the past I've found it easier to lose weight when I'm not exercising though I have no idea why! I am missing my walks though.

Cathy31 · 22/05/2020 19:40

Today was better!
Muesli, yoghurt and a pear for breakfast,
soup, bread and an apple and a square of chocolate for lunch,
Rice, kidney beans and squash for dinner with some yoghurt and peanut butter for pudding. Oh, and a glass of beer as it's Friday...

And a 28min run for C25K week 8, plus an hour's walk at toddler pace.

Feeling really good this evening. Water and herbal tea until bedtime, and hopefully another good day tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday!

PeasandCucumbers · 23/05/2020 07:34

Morning all. Feeling very pleased with myself after another good couple of days. Did have some Prosecco last night but not the bottle which would be the norm for a Friday evening! And I had only eaten just under 1000 calories beforehand so I was still well under my 1500 daily limit.

greytminds I also have an Apple Watch and really like it. I got it earlier in the year on a £14 per month 0% interest offer at John Lewis. I turn off all notifications most of the time and use it to track my calories burned, steps and general activity. I went with this one as I wanted something that would count lengths in the pool (my pre lockdown preferred exercise) and has built in GPS. 4 months in and I would recommend but like Flippetydip said I do charge it every night. My DS has one and it does keep charge enough for his long distance cycles (he’s doing 100km today)

Plan for today is week 2 run 2 of couch25k and day 3 of yoga with Adrienne. And enough walking to earn calories for weekend wine Grin

I’m also considering joining you fasters and giving that a go. Just need to plan what I’d eat first!

Lurking and Karcherr I am also seeing this as a long term thing and giving myself 80 days (today is day 4) I am hoping to get under 10 stone before then though.

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 23/05/2020 09:49

Morning all. I just weighed myself properly, in stones and pounds. I switched to kg a while back, I think I found encouraging at the time, but it has allowed a slight detachment from watching the numbers go up. Stones and pounds mean more somehow. Anyway 11st 2lbs. My first aim is to be under 11 by this time next week. Which will be hard as it is a stressful week with lots of sitting down doing work I don’t want to do, which usually ends up with many many snack breaks. I’m also sleeping really badly at the moment and sleep deprivation always means I feel the need for instant sugary energy. So if I can get to under 11st I will be pleased.

I bought myself an Apple Watch just a few weeks ago, it has been pretty good at getting me out run/walking when I might otherwise find excuses. I’m not sure I’m using it to its fullest though.

KeirStarmerDonkeyFarmer · 23/05/2020 09:50

I’m hovering around week 6 of c25k. I have an old Achilles injury which flares up when I try the longer runs, but hopefully it’ll easy up with the training.

PeasandCucumbers · 24/05/2020 08:38

Yes my knees are liking the couch25k much either Keir! I am leaving 2 days between wash session to try and give them a bit of a rest

greytminds · 24/05/2020 20:03

Thanks for the feedback about Apple watches. I have bought myself one. An early 40th birthday present and I figured I could justify it as I haven’t really been spending as much as I normally would, especially on nursery fees!

I need to get started with couch25k. Just finding motivation is so lacking.

Haven’t really been watching what I eat over the weekend (not been too bad) but juices being delivered tomorrow and will start a three day cleanse on Tuesday.

bez91 · 24/05/2020 20:27

How's everyone got on this weekend? I did so well in the week, bit of a bump today as ordered a takeaway Sunday roast from the local who have just started doing them and having to have a beer because my husband (whose very hair conscious) has asked me to cut his hair and I needed some Dutch courage!

Weigh day tomorrow so hoping for a loss!!

Lurkingforawhile · 25/05/2020 11:58

Anyone else doing progress photos? Mine are for personal use only but I've seen some articles that they can be really helpful. Also, I agree re using kgs and switched back to stones and pounds last year.
