Moving down in May

So here's the new thread for tomorrow, excuse the boring title. Unless a miracle happens by tomorrow, I will be starting the month heavier than I started April. Weigh 9st1.5. Aiming for 8st13. Hopefully things might start to change in May. even if its only slightly, which will lift our spirits.

Oh and mustn't forget it might be PMS related.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/05/2020 08:49

Hi @Octopus37 to be honest that doesn't even sound like that much food! My guess is that the weight will come down very quickly, as lots of it is likely water (possibly from a high salt intake in that food) don't dispair! A day eating what you like is not failure

Hangoverstruggles · 09/05/2020 08:53

Well done Henrietta sounds like you're on a roll!

Monstera and Octopus it's so frustrating when one day or pms makes such a difference. So demotivating!

I'm scared to step on the scales this morning so not going to! Birthday yesterday and had lots of cake, wine and then a Chinese takeaway. I did run first thing though to get it out the way (couch to 5k)

I was awake in the night with such an uncomfortable stomach, like I'd eaten far too much. Wondered if 3 weeks of a very controlled diet followed by a blow out dat shocked my body a bit?

Back on the healthy wagon today. Not sure I'll run but aiming to stick to 1200 calories.

I'm also midway through my period so another reason to ignore the scales for a few days! Bloody hormones. Good luck today everyone.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 09/05/2020 08:58

@MonsteraCheeseplant Yeah, I think it's always going to get harder the lower your weight is. I'm still significantly over weight so it's easier in lots of ways. Maybe the weight you are at is just one that suits your body quite well. I know the Doc's have said lower is better for diabetes risk, but that's always going to be a general bit of advice. I'd suggest asking them if we weren't all in the middle of a pandemic.
Yesterday I changed plan a bit after lunch, but still went up to nearly 2000 calories.
I have a plan for today but I think I'll put on what I actually ate later!
Hope you all have a good day. It's beautiful weather here. I'm going to drink lots of no calories drinks with ice in them. Maybe some ice teas.

Octopus37 · 09/05/2020 09:16

Thanks for the encouragement ladies, good to know that its not just me. Yes its probably the salt content, hormones etc. I've had a cereal bar for breakfast, going to try to eat normally today and not panic about it.

Octopus I feel you. I had an epic napping and sleeping fest from about 5pm till this morning so didn’t eat much yesterday and no evening alcohol. Got on the scales this morning and was 5lb up!

It makes no sense and I’m trying to ignore it as an anomaly and not despair. Up until a couple of weeks ago when I started fasting again that’s how random the scales have been since my surgery last year. I’d think I’d had a good week being active and eating healthily only to find my weight had gone up again.

I need to just fast today. Not feeling very confident that I have will power though.

So the plan is loads of water and herbal tea.

My ACV arrived today-not sure if I mentioned I had bowel surgery last year and my gp thinks my weight gain might be to do with bacteria overgrowth or balance? Anyway I’m going to take ACV daily plus try and eat some raw coconut oil to address that. I have a naive hope that will miraculously turn this fat invasion around lol

TheHoneyBadger · 09/05/2020 18:36

Still fasting. Been about 26 hrs. Feel like if I eat anything now I’ll have put on another 3lbs tomorrow Hmm Wondering if I can just push on through to tomorrow and then have eggs for breakfast to lengthen ketosis?

How’s everyone else doing?

MonsteraCheeseplant · 09/05/2020 18:54

Well i've had another 1300 cal day which is fine for a weekend I think. It's helped that i've been busy today as I haven't thought about snacking half as much. I've been enjoying my garden.

I don't know how you have the stamina for fasting. I have neither the will nor the inclination! Willpower of steel you must have. Is it usually so long?

TheHoneyBadger · 09/05/2020 19:47

I find it easier to fast intermittently than to diet daily monster. To me diets mean being endlessly hungry and obsessing about food. With fasting I personally don’t feel hungry but get bored and then start wanting to eat. Which tells me a lot about how I use food.

It’s not always this long and some people never do water only fasts. I’ve only just started again in the last couple of weeks. As I remember I used to mix it up doing just short fasts with low cal dinner before bed some weeks and other weeks doing a longer fast of say 36-40hrs long. Seem to remember the mixing it up helped me get past plateaus and occasional long fasts helped reset my appetite.

Just feeling my way for now to see what works for me and what gets me burning fat as fuel. I’m huge and actually starting to worry about it in terms of health.

I’m blessed with really low blood pressure and cholesterol but it can’t be good for me carrying all this fat around with me.

I reminded myself of that whilst cooking dinner for ds and resisting the wine bottle calling to me.

I think you must have massive will power to stick to 1300 calls a day

Octopus37 · 10/05/2020 09:08

HoneyBadger your doing great, I'm another one who has tried fasting and struggled but can see how it would work better. 9st2.5 this morning so most of it has come off, have never seen such a big daily fluctuation before. Had just over 1300 calories yesterday so was happy with that. Aiming to do the same today, have just eaten my cereal bar.

OP posts:
MonsteraCheeseplant · 10/05/2020 10:05

Wow. Crazy fluctuations. Well done for staying strong.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 11:35

Oh good octopus. Fasting has made my mystery gain disappear again for now. Still haven’t eaten so about 43 hours now.

Just did a lovely yin yoga class that an old friend streamed live. Noticed some asanas are much trickier with a belly in the way! Further motivation lol.

Must make sure I break fast carefully and don’t eat too much. Still feel fine for now.

sparklyglitterball · 10/05/2020 13:49

Wow @TheHoneyBadger that's pretty hardcore! I could never go that long without food. I have considered doing the 16:8 plan and basically skipping breakfast, but I'm still breastfeeding my toddler and just feel the need to keep energy levels up. Glad your fluctuation was just that @Octopus37, I hate it when that happens and find it hard not to feel despondent. Well done to everyone else and welcome to any newbies. I went off the rails for a couple of days but back on it today. Because of that I've not lost any weight on the scales, but have lost a couple of inches on my waist.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 13:56

Yay for the inches. I should measure but confess I’m scared to find out. I’m barrel shaped currently.

I genuinely don’t feel hungry sparkly. Once I eat I feel hungry but fasting I don’t. My stomach hasn’t even rumbled. Maybe because I have so much fat available for fuel. Majorly thirsty though. I have drunk loads.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/05/2020 19:01

48 hr fast followed by a scrambled egg and grilled bacon. Now treating myself to a glass of red.

My maintenance calories are 2273 apparently so should have at least a deficit of 4546cals and fasting is supposed to burn more fat than just calorie deficit but we shall see what my magic 8ball scales have to say tomorrow.

Hope everyone has had a lovely Sunday including those who’ve treated themselves to a day off x

MonsteraCheeseplant · 11/05/2020 08:59

I have just seen that according to my TDEE calculator, my 'ideal' weight is 10 stone 2 - 10 stone 4. My initial goal weight is 10 stone 10 which i'm 2lbs away from. I was thinking of setting a new goal once i hit that but that ideal weight feels quite far away. hmm. We'll see.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 11/05/2020 10:06

Morning all!
All going well in house iggle over the last couple of days. I've been to the limit of my calories, due to it being the weekend but not over. Yesterday I did 1400 and will aim for under 1500 today.
Planned food:
B. Porridge, berries, almonds, coffee
L. Small cheese & olive toasty with soup or sauteed spinach
D. Fajitas with lettuce wraps

Porpoises · 11/05/2020 14:10

Hi all. 70.9kg this morning which is fine. Need to get onto the exercise.

Octopus37 · 11/05/2020 16:05

Well done all. Had an okish day yesterday. Weighed 9st1.5 this morning. Will keep going.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/05/2020 16:38

Imo monster your ideal weight is where you can feel comfortable with yourself and be able to realistically maintain.

Today I’m hungry. Had a massive bowel of oaks soaked in skimmed milk overnight with all different seeds and cranberries and some almonds with a spoon of honey.

Then I had some vegetable soup with a bit of cheese crumbled in.

Felt guilty for what felt like eating loads (never normally fancy breakfast) but now I look at it it’s not that bad is it? So long as I don’t go crazy tonight it should be ok I think?

Haven’t decided on dinner tonight. I’m hungry so I think it’s better I have something substantial rather than skimp and end up snacking. Thinking jacket potatoes and mackerel.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 11/05/2020 18:48

Came in at under 1200 cals today.
B: Yoghurt
L: Spanish chicken stew
D: Cheesy cauli pasta bake
S: Peanut butter cup and a fondant fancy

That's a good day in my eyes, treats and under budget. Noice.

I've also started punctuating my working at home day with trying to do 10 push ups. It'd be cool to be able to do them easily.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 11/05/2020 18:48

If you ate loads Badger, I dread to think what you make of my meals day!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 11/05/2020 20:28

These all sound nice! I don't think that sounds like loads @TheHoneyBadger, when you're hungry oats are good :-)
I've stuck to plan and also had an orange and a square of dark chocolate for snacks. And a nanny state beer with my tea (,only 20 calories) I'm just under 1400 calories in total so I'll probably have some halo top ice-cream after I put the kids to bed.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/05/2020 22:06

Willing to bet your portions were more controlled than mine monster. Would say I’ve had more calls than you.

I’ve just had 2 smallish jacket pots with mackerel and a bit of cheese.

Oh and a couple of glasses of red.

Just pleased that I managed to stick to all proper food bar the wine. Easy to eat crap on hungry days especially at this point in my cycle.

Well done everyone. Fingers crossed for kind scales

Octopus37 · 12/05/2020 07:24

Badger and Monstera, sounds as if you are doing really well. I'm doing okish here, didn't do much exercise yesterday, was a bit of a bad day for various reasons. Weighed 9st1 this morning. . Hoping if I carry on being reasonable for the next couple of weeks that I could make my target, but know that I will probably have a few slip ups realistically.
