Moving down in May

So here's the new thread for tomorrow, excuse the boring title. Unless a miracle happens by tomorrow, I will be starting the month heavier than I started April. Weigh 9st1.5. Aiming for 8st13. Hopefully things might start to change in May. even if its only slightly, which will lift our spirits.

Thanks for the link!

I think 1200 does sound hard! But if you're finding its working then that's fine

Interesting about the reverse dieting, I suppose that's something to be mindful of is our end goal - losing the weight but also finding new ways to eat and live to maintain after

TheHoneyBadger · 21/05/2020 14:31

Wow that calculator gives a crazy small bracket for ideal weight given the variety of builds people have. It gives me 9st7-9sr11. I’d be in a size 8 at 5ft 7 at that weight. In my mid 40s.

Maybe it works better for men. I have broad shoulders, large hands and feet-seems unlikely that me and someone with size 5 feet and tiny wrists would only have 4 lbs difference.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 21/05/2020 16:00

Yeah you are right about it being a tiny bracket. I wouldn't take it as gospel tbh.

EndlessUserName · 21/05/2020 16:32

Definitely not gospel! But it does give me something to think about. Mine came out smack bang in the middle of my goal range though! But I know I've been that weight before only a few years ago, and it's still a whole stone more than when I was a teen, and only 10lb less than I am now! So I think it's achievable :)

Mimilondon39 · 21/05/2020 16:56

Hi there Please can I join? You seem like a super supportive lot who are doing really well. I’ve put on half a stone in lockdown and my size 12s are wayyyy too tight! Going to start WW tomorrow and give it a try for a couple of weeks. I like mfp but like to save up for weekend treats so think WW May work better long term x ps I’ve interviewed Michael Mosley and he explained that starvation mode is a myth - you can read more about it in his Fast 800 book.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 21/05/2020 17:01

Welcome Mimi, care to share your height, weight and goal? No pressure. Are you going to be fasting? Or doing the WW points thing?

Mimilondon39 · 21/05/2020 18:35

Thanks Monster. I’m 5 foot 6 and 11st 12 - I’m super curvy (34H!) so it’s not necessarily that noticeable but the gain seems to have been all on my tummy! Going to try the WW points thing as it worked before (15 years ago though!) but will be fasting in the morning as never hungry then anyway anyway and would rather drink gin later 🥰. Think my goal will be 10st 10 and then we will see....I’m pretty active with two young children and love healthy food and small portions but my sweet tooth is getting the better of me. Plan is to try WW for two weeks and then MFP for two weeks and see which fits better with my lifestyle. Luckily my husband is super healthy so that helps but I’m finding lockdown very challenging! I’m super social and active (not really sporty but more walking everywhere) and it’s been tough mentally (although I realise how lucky we are to be healthy.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 21/05/2020 19:12

Nice idea to test them both out. They say the best diet is the one you can stick to.

B: Yoghurt
L: Ham and pearl barley soup
D: Huevos Rotos
S: (i'm ashamed to admit) Digestive thin, fresh pineapple, two flavours of halo top ice cream and last but not least, a Reese's peanut butter cup Blush
Somehow all that comes to 1179 cals

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 21/05/2020 19:31

Hi @Mimilondon39 welcome! I used to do we when I lived in California. It was really good, but they changed the formula a bit and I couldn't stick to the new plan when I came back to London, too little fat in it for me I think

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 21/05/2020 19:33

@TheHoundsofLove it's a relief to hear others are messing up with home schooling! I had an email from my son's school last week saying he'd only done 33% of work set the other week! :-/

Mimilondon39 · 21/05/2020 19:43

Thanks guys. We will see. Love Reese’s! My home schooling has seriously gone to pot - was getting stressed about it and then realised that it is such an unusual situation - as long as we are doing some reading I’m okay with that x ps teachers should be paid millions of pounds.

TheHoundsofLove · 21/05/2020 20:25

Welcome Mimi !
Although I'm sorry that some of you are also having homeschooling trials and tribulations total understatement in my case it's a bit of a relief to realise that I'm not the only one. It's really not a good feeling though is it Iggle ? Still, onwards and upwards in these weird times...

TheHoneyBadger · 21/05/2020 21:38

Odd day today. I ate earlier than usual and had a toasted bagel with my Dad’s homemade jam. Felt dizzy and weird straight away and thought a migraine was coming. Went to bed with a kitkat and salt and vinegar crisps (knew I needed salt and sugar but had drunk lots so shouldn’t have been dehydrated) and had a long nap.

Woke up feeling better and had a bowl of leftover stew and a beer-only bought one beer in my delivery because I can’t resist beer even if it’s alcohol free.

May have a couple of red vermouth and slimline tonics after I’ve walked the dog. It’s an eating day for me.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/05/2020 21:39

Sorry forgot to say welcome mimi.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 21/05/2020 22:20

Today's food:
B. Toast peanut butter banana
L. Tuna salad
D. Half a pizza express margarita
S. Dark choc square, half a tub of oppo choc hazelnut ice-cream aperol spritz

EndlessUserName · 22/05/2020 07:54

Welcome Mimi!

Yesterday I had -

B - toast, peanut butter, banana, chia seeds
L - gnocchi in tomato and veg sauce
D - takeaway! I had saved up syns for this during the week

I'm really happy that my days look so similar to before, trying not to change too much

This morning for B I had a banana smoothie with the kids, and fuck you slimming world I'm not synning it! I don't see the difference to blending one banana to eating it whole. I'm trying hard to be sensible with the SW thing. Likewise I had soup this week but you're supposed to syn it, but it has way more calories than baked beans which are free! Makes no sense at all so I didn't bother synning. I'm a rebel!

EndlessUserName · 22/05/2020 07:55

Apologies to anyone who doesn't know SW words, it's definitely a cult!

Mimilondon39 · 22/05/2020 07:56

Ooh I love Aperol Spritz! Weighed in at 11st 11 today despite a couple of massive gins yesterday after a full-on day. Going to keep a food and fitness diary for the next month as writing things down helps me to focus ( I even did a spending diary once - yikes!). Going to try and be moderate this weekend - at least my husband should be around to help! X

Octopus37 · 22/05/2020 09:08

Welcome Mimi, sounds as if you are doing well. Iggle and Hounds, home schooling is the bane of my life, so hard for us all when we're not teachers, and probably even if we were with our own kids. I am pretty much leaving my older one to it (he is nearly 13), but I am doing three lessons on Google Classroom with my 10 year old each day. He is bright enough but shall we say not very motivate so we are just about managing the minimum. Very much one day at a time. Stopfunding, interesting about the ideal weight thing, I dont know if I used the right calculator, but all the listed ideals were somewhere between 56-58 kilos, like others have said it seemed very narrow. Weighed 9st.1.25 yesterday, had a reasonable day. Just eaten a cereal bar.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 22/05/2020 09:20

Toast, peanut butter banana is clearly the way to go for breakfast! Did you guys coordinate? Grin Sounds like an awesome breakfast to be fair.

So, as I may have mentioned, my weekly weighing thing has gone to pot as I got excited and have done it daily/every other day since hitting interim goal #1. I weighed myself again today to check that I had maintained and i've lost another 1lb! I'm 10 stone 8lbs! That's 4lbs in slightly less than two weeks after having plateaud for two weeks and after feeling quite bloated last night so truly unexpected. I supposed my experiment to determine if having take away was behind my plateau has been answered...

1lb off interim goal and 3-6lbs off goal.

TheHoneyBadger · 22/05/2020 09:37

Well done monster Halo

Weight bounced up a little today as expected after an eating day. Only up to my old low though so I find that encouraging.

I am a teacher and it’s still hard getting ds (13) to work. Instead of doing everything at once we’re doing one core subject at a time. Currently on maths doing the work that’s been set plus trying to go over and consolidate all ks3 maths. We’re going to keep learning over the holidays-seeing it as a marathon rather than a sprint has helped me.

EndlessUserName · 22/05/2020 11:24

That's fantastic! @MonsteraCheeseplant

Hahaha yes I think @Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket and I have similar good taste!

EndlessUserName · 22/05/2020 11:24

That was meant to say food taste, but I guess it is good taste too!

TheHoundsofLove · 22/05/2020 12:09

Well done Monstera .
I love an Aperol Spritz too! That's my problem...I love everything Grin
stop It's silly syn rules like those that have always put me off SW - great if you can make it work for you though. I know someone that lost and has kept off over 8 stones with SW, so it definitely can work.
Homeschooling is going quite a bit better today, although it's fairly exhausting isn't it?!...and made all the more difficult because I'm doing it in my second language (German)!

EndlessUserName · 22/05/2020 13:43

Definitely can't make it work! @hounds but I can make it work short term to lose a bit, and hopefully as I'm not really changing my diet much then I can go into maintaing soon after. Or I may do a few weeks on / few weeks maintaining etc. I'm basically just using it as a way to monitor calories for now
