Hi
Like lots of people I’m trying to get back to a healthy weight - spurred on by COVID19. My weight has been creeping up and I started lockdown at the heaviest I’ve ever been (annoyingly much of this was ‘new’ weight gain.)
I’ve lost about 7lbs since lockdown - (maybe more - I avoided weighing myself at the start) and have really stepped up my efforts in the last fortnight. I still have another 2 stone to go.
DH is overweight too and I’ve finally convinced him to shed some weight which is good. I’m hoping that together we can make a permanent changes.
Is there anyone else in a similar position who would like to join me for mutual support?
I’ve just started (as in today) doing 5:2. I’ve been counting calories and I am using my new exercise bike for about 40 mins a day.

Thanks for the fitness blender recommendation. I’ll try it out tomorrow.

Love51 - I used to go swimming 2 or 3 times a week too (non of the other stuff though - other than eating too much!). I miss it so much! I can’t wait to be able to go again.

I’m not too hungry on my juice day yet. I’m drinking lots of water at least. I think I;l be having an early night though...

I think my eating is ok

Branflakes & blueberries
Banana
Chicken salad and 2 crisp breads
Some cherry yoghurt
Cadbury's Choc (treat)
Popcorn

But I am hungry!!! Am I doing something wrong?

Pota2 · 06/05/2020 17:03

bigfootfred is that for the whole day or just so far? If it’s for the whole day then I can see why you’re hungry! Might be worth swapping the bran flakes for something like eggs that has more protein and maybe having one snack rather than lots that have sugar in and using the calories to put more complex carbs like brown rice into the chicken salad (unless you’re intending to do low carb that is). Then you need a decent dinner too of course.

Personally I don’t know of anyone who has had lasting success with a 1200 cal diet. It’s all gone back on as it’s totally unsustainable. I know that others have different experiences but I am losing weight eating about 1700 cals a day. If you go too low, you risk damaging your metabolic rate permanently meaning that if you regain the weight, you have to eat even less next time you diet and so on.

bigfootfred · 06/05/2020 17:59

I had tortellini for tea I just struggle to know what to eat

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 07/05/2020 08:03

Sounds like everyone is doing well this week. My catch-up from yesterday:

B porridge with blackberries
L chick pea & houmous salad; pear
S chocolate tortina & satsuma
D fish cakes with asparagus

Did 30 Day Shred level 1 (day 5) which is starting to feel a bit better, and just over 9000 steps on my watch, so not too bad.

I did however have some white wine with dinner. I’m kicking myself but it was lovely. I need to have more will power this evening- particularly as its technically the weekend!

darrenlacey · 07/05/2020 10:39

Well done everyone 💪🏽

I didn't manage to do a Davina workout yesterday but did fit a yoga session in (Yoga with Adrienne 30 days 'Home' - day 6) although I could not do the 'boat' sit ups for shit - sooo hard!

Have also realised I cannot even do one proper push up unless I'm on my knees. Must work on this!

So far am sticking to 1400 calories as I'd like to lose 1-2lbs weekly.

Agree though that 1700 would still be sufficient to lose weight with regular exercise.

darrenlacey · 07/05/2020 10:42

@bigfootfred did you have dinner too? If not then you are not eating enough.

I do always feel hungry the first week or so of reducing calories anyway because my stomach has been stretched and used to eating loads.

Love51 · 07/05/2020 10:59

Darren I do yoga with Adrienne as well! Some days I do something different but YWA home is my default. Did day 23 this morning. Going to do Yoga at the aquarium tomorrow (it's an hour so can't do it I'd OH leaves early for work/;

bigfootfred · 07/05/2020 11:31

@darrenlacey yes I had tortellini last night. I thought it is because I need to get my body used to not being greedy. I didn't really enjoy the chocolate.

Today:

B: museli with blueberries
L: Tuna salad with rest of tortelini
D: Maybe steak potatoes and veg

Shedtheload · 07/05/2020 11:35

bigfootred today’s food sounds much better. Lots of protein there. Complex carbs like quinoa are also good, maybe as a substitute for things like tortellini. But overall, it looks pretty good and by cutting ‘empty’ snacks you can have more at mealtimes!

bigfootfred · 07/05/2020 11:53

Yeh I got the tortellini on the last shop so needs eating then I won't get again its not something we have often its just easy

Newuser54321 · 08/05/2020 07:04

👋hi everyone. I've not done too bad with sticking within my calorie limits but I'll know for sure on Sunday 🤞, yesterday I had a tablespoon of ice cream (one of the really nice posh ones) and I was going to get some more but I stoped myself and decided it wasn't worth putting weight on for another spoon, it was a bit of a lightbulb moment. I've been doing long walks which are lovely in this weather. Have a good day everyone

darrenlacey · 08/05/2020 09:57

@Love51 ah hello fellow Adrienne Yogi! 🧘🏻‍♀️
I'm not managing to do it every single day but will be doing day 7 today! Sometimes I just have to put my Bluetooth headphones in and do it with all 3 DC bumbling about in the living room around me, as I do not always get a chance of 30 mins solitude!
The headphones do a pretty good job of muffling out my surroundings though....she is very calming and I do like her even though I thought I'd find it all a bit cheesy!

darrenlacey · 08/05/2020 09:59

@Newuser54321 I allowed myself a vodka and lemonade (not even diet lemonade 😱) last night as I was still within the 1400 calories.

This is why I'm not trying to do 1200 calories this time - it allows more for the odd treat here and there which is so important I think 😛

Love51 · 08/05/2020 11:14

@darrenlacey I start off with peace and then a child wakes up and comes downstairs. He's pretty well trained though and knows breakfast will be after. I'm surprised what a good routine I'm in tbh. I did yoga live at the aquarium (not live!) today, which was an hour. The instructor's voice was very muffled with the appalling acoustics though.

Love51 · 08/05/2020 11:15

I struggle with the odd treat. If I have one, I want them all! Any fixes for this very welcome.
Please?

Love51 · 08/05/2020 18:14

I'm probably not eating enough as I've just had a nap which I wouldn't normally need. Doing this wrong :(

Habibtihayati · 08/05/2020 20:53

May I join you? I need to lose 15kgs (almost 2.5 stones) to get from 78kgs to 63kgs. It's been almost a decade since I've been that weight, though the last 5kgs of my current weight have all crept on in the last 12 months. I'd be better off losing a bit more than that as I'm only 160cms tall but I'd rather be realistic and achieve my goal.
I've done all sorts on and off over the last few years keto, 5:2, fast800, SW but struggle to stick to anything. For the last few days I've just been logging my calories on nutracheck and trying to walk at least 5000 steps each day. It doesn't sound like much but my daily life is VERY sedentary so this is a big improvement and hopefully I will build up once my feet ease up (I have painful plantar fasciitis at the moment). Like a previous poster I'm taking it slow and steady and going for around 1700 cals a day which, though I know will take me longer, I'm much more likely to stick to.

Today I had
B: 2 slices of Cranks bread (thinly sliced) with 1/2 avocado and a tomato
L: spinach soup with a slice of rye sourdough bread
D: 1/4 pound burger with coleslaw and salad

I'm making almost everything from scratch which frustratingly takes a lot longer to log into nutracheck rather than just scanning a bar code but does mean I can control the calories going in a little better and I feel it's healthier (and easier on the bank balance most of the time).

It sounds like everyone has made a good start so far and it's really good to hear everyone's challenges and tips. Keep them and the meal plans coming please!

darrenlacey · 09/05/2020 08:57

@Love51 I also struggle with the odd treat - I am a massive binge eater and sugar addict. Yesterday had a wobble as dh bought Alpen muesli thinking it was heathy - it is loaded with sugar and I had two bowls , wasn't in calorie defecit at all yesterday.

I'm thinking that the odd treat has to be something that doesn't trigger bingeing...for
Me that is a vodka and lemonade, feels
Like a naughty treat but I can have one if I've done a workout so I'm still in calorie defecit and I don't feel like having more and more like I do with chocolate/anything high sugar. I just can't have that stuff in the house.

Also, those reduced calorie ice creams are good! Can have half a tub relatively guilt free if you account for it working out calories etc

darrenlacey · 09/05/2020 08:58

@Habibtihayati hi 👋🏻 and welcome!

darrenlacey · 09/05/2020 09:01

@Love51 I've also realised that if I plan a treat as part of my days calorie intake and an still in defecit, I can enjoy it guilt free. Unplanned treats I feel guilty and think fuck it and tend to go off on a massive binge.

Love51 · 09/05/2020 13:13

I hadn't eaten enough yesterday so ended up having a beer outside in the evening, which was a nice chance for me and DH to have a chat together. One was enough given the hot weather! I think if I was in a pattern it might help - like if I knew how many calories dinner would be and that I won't be gnawing my arm off after, I could ear more earlier in the day, rather than saving my calories for an evening emergency.

LittleDoveLove · 09/05/2020 17:18

Yes! I will join you OP! X

Love51 · 09/05/2020 17:24

So hungry. DD is making dinner under her dad's instruction. I promised she could learn to make sausages ahead of deciding to diet, so I'm not going to have a lot of food. Hopefully it will be filling.

Habibtihayati · 09/05/2020 21:53

How we're the sausages @Love51? I caved and bought sausages at the farm shop when getting eggs this morning, haven't eaten them yet but they look delicious which no doubt means they'll be terribly calorific!

Today started well but took a bit of a dive this evening and I've no idea how to count the calories!
B: Spinach soup
L: Loren sausage, fried egg, potato waffle & baked beans
D: Crispy calamari with aioli, pan con tomate, coleslaw, green salad & a dark choc kitkat
