Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Thanks @Winningatseesaw my GW is 10.7 (so another 32lbs to go).

I'm hoping to be at a 'healthy' weight by the end of November (11st 11lb). I know BMI isn't everything, but I'd love to be able to go to a doctor and not have my weight blamed for everything, for once.

Congrats on your loss this week!

Fitbeforeihit50 · 17/10/2020 11:00

Wow, everyone has done brilliantly recently.

I have spent the last week eating so much crap I am dreading WI on Monday. I have just been munching my way through masses of chocolate biscuits, crisps and whatever else is to hand. Started off with my period but I seem to have just continued on. Somehow that temptation to unwrap and eat is too much. Not quite sure how to get back on track at the moment Confused

alphaechokiwi · 18/10/2020 07:27

Down 0.3kg this week to 108kg.
I was hoping for a bit more as I've been diligently on track all week. However it's a loss so it's in the right direction.

Winningatseesaw · 18/10/2020 12:00

It's good the scales are going down @alphaechokiwi. Have you looked at your historic weigh ins to see if there is a pattern? Every 5 or 6 weeks I have a maintain.

alphaechokiwi · 18/10/2020 13:52

Thank you @Winningatseesaw - I actually had a 0.5kg gain on my second weekGrin. This is my sixth weigh in, so there is possibly something cyclical happening. Although I don't have periods any more since I started tamoxifen...
I'm having a good hard look at what I ate this week too, maybe need to adjust things a bit.

alphaechokiwi · 18/10/2020 14:07

Oh and @Winningatseesaw well done on your loss this week....
@Zebracat thank you for the swimming suggestion, I had a blissful time in a local lido (heatedWink) yesterday. I'll definitely be going again soon

Zebracat · 18/10/2020 17:29

A heated lido. That would be my dream. I had a slightly embarrassing time yesterday, relegated to the slow lane oh well. Idid want to ask if it was because I’m fat, cos I really wasn’t slow but I went with a good grace.

alphaechokiwi · 18/10/2020 21:36

It's heated just enough to take the bitter cold edge off the water! Still feels pretty cold getting in but it's fine once you're in and swimming...

Winningatseesaw · 18/10/2020 22:49

Heated lido sounds amazing.
@zebracat I would have started trying to swim super fast in the slow lane to prove I was fast haha

EightToSixer · 21/10/2020 22:26

Well done everyone on your losses and for keeping at it when losses are hard to come by.
I’ve now completed 12 weeks on keto and I’m down 38lbs. I will put a photo in of my progress so you can see it’s not consistent, but as long as I’m getting lighter overall I’m happy.
What are your non scale victories? I’m happy that I had to throw out some clothes that were too baggy, had to tighten my watch strap 2 holes and find walking so much easier already. I’d love to hear about your successes.

I need to lose 9st+! Help!
Winningatseesaw · 22/10/2020 19:06

Very impressive numbers @eighttosixer! Well done

I had a maintain this week. I was expecting it as I have my period and I can see similar pattern to my results as I look back.

Hope everyone else is doing well

Zebracat · 22/10/2020 21:32

Hello all. I’ve been on holiday and missed my weigh in so weighed today and had gained 1.5 kilos. To be expected but still depressing. Holiday did bring me face to face with my obesity in a number of unsettling ways.
Worst was we went for a fancy meal yesterday and I ate far too much then suffered all night in a boiling hotel room. I thought my heart was going to stop.
I had 1 of those turning point moments where I knew that I can’t keep messing around and putting a positive spin on excess weight and excess calories. I need to sort this out properly, and get to a healthy weight. Big change I’ve decided on is no more excuses.
3 healthy low calorie meals a day, no exceptions no alcohol , keep upping the exercise and aim to lose 4 kilos every month.
And I will post on here but I’m not going to be chatting shit about it irl. Need to keep my focus.

Winningatseesaw · 23/10/2020 04:20

Welcome back @zebracat! Did you have a nice holiday overall? Sounds like you're super motivated which is great. 1.5kgs isn't too much for a holiday actually so am sure that will soon drop off.

I'm also on the "lose 7lbs/3kgs in October " thread and that's quite motivating for short term goals. I'm at 2kgs for the month so.hoping for a good finish!

Zebracat · 23/10/2020 16:39

@Winningatseesaw
Thank you. Yes it was nice but short and very expensive and I got no sleep , and once again got publicly shamed in swimwear. So I do feel like I have a choice between staying home and eating myself to death or losing the weight and living.
Is it helping you to be on the other thread?, and are they welcoming?

Winningatseesaw · 25/10/2020 02:03

@zebracat publicly shamed in swimwear? WTF is wrong with people? Lucky you seem to be a strong character.

The other thread is welcoming but as I'm in a different time zone, I don't keep up with all the chat. Just using it for motivation:)

ShopoholicIn · 25/10/2020 02:41

@fateDestiny just wow..

On a similar situation to you OP have a 7 month old baby but struggle too ho out for any form of exercise.. don't get much time with an elder DC but i do get time to surf the web for like hours in a day...

alphaechokiwi · 25/10/2020 06:47

@EightToSixer that is truly impressive. Well done!
And @Zebracat I think that being brave enough to get on the scales after a holiday is an achievement.... that's the point where I tend to fall off the wagon completely.
I am very disappointed this week. A 0.1 kg gain. I don't understand it. This week I tracked my calories to check that even with fasting I had a decent defecit. I had a calorie deficit of over 6000 for the week. I'm going to keep on going.... But I'm very down about it....
In the bright side, I have been swimming lots this week and it's been a joy. I wouldn't have thought to do it if not for this thread, so even if I am stuck at 108.1kgs for the rest of my days, I have something positiveGrin

EightToSixer · 25/10/2020 10:12

@alphaechokiwi. If you’ve swam a lot this week you may be building muscle, don’t be despondent about the maintenance.

@Zebracat be kind to yourself, that sounds like you’ve had some tough times but try to find the positives, you put a swimming costume on and moved around, you got on the scales despite knowing the result may not be what you expected, you have made the decision to get back to it this week and make some changes. All of those things are fucking hard sometimes and you’re a legend for coming back and focusing on your health positively. Well done ⭐️

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 12:19

Hi everyone

I'm on the intermittent fasting 16:8 thread but wondered if I could join you here for a bit too, as I have a specific question related to having a lot to lose, and I am trying to lose 45 kg (7 stone) total to get into the healthy weight range (18 kg - about 2 stone 10 I think - lost so far since July).

zebracat publically shamed in swim wear makes me shocked - I was in swimwear in July at about 18.5 stone, and nobody said anything nasty or anything - you must have run into dome absolute knobs! That kind of spite tells you about their insecurities and inadequacy, not yours...

The specific question which brought me to this thread, which perhaps EightToSixer might have a view on having lost a similar amount of weight - is do you buy new clothes mid weight loss? I can still wear clothes from the start of my weight loss with a belt, but now jeans are bunching up. As I'm still pretty fat and middle aged this doesn't look slouchy adorable as it might on a modelesque 20 year old Grin but instead just means that I have to wear tops which don't show the weird lumps created by too much fabric and belt on top of a still big belly. I do have a couple of things from 8+ years ago which I now fit back into, but I got rid of most things which I'd "grown out of".

I was going to wait until I was a comfortable 14-16 before buying anything new, on the basis that I can still wear that size even if I manage to go down one more size, and I don't want to buy cheap v"disposable" clothing really...

I'm starting to wonder what other people do - buy a few cheap staples hoping to only wear them for a couple of months, or keep your money and wear the big stuff til you get to a size you hope to be able to stay in for years and invest in good stuff?

Zebracat · 25/10/2020 12:19

Oh what lovely messages. Thank you people. It’s very sad but actually, being laughed at seemed to be the the kick up the arse I needed. I’ve absolutely got myself back on track since Then. It was my family laughing at me. Don’t think they meant to be unkind , it’s just Mum is quite a low status position. Fuck em, It will be me who’s laughing when I lose 25 kilos and start beating them in triathlons! That last bit may be fantasy.

Zebracat · 25/10/2020 12:28

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme
Hello that is an interesting question I would imagine that you are down at least 2 dress sizes by now . If I were you, I would buy some new underwear and a pair of jeans and 1 shorter top. They should do you for a bit . Your doing so well!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 13:02

Hi Zebracat - sorry for insulting your family Blush I assumed strangers had fat shamed you Sad Family members! Sad

Thanks for answering my question, I think you might be right... Might get a couple of pairs of jeans and tops - underwear maybe... bras are expensive where I live especially bigger than a c cup and luckily I've lost mainly on the band size so farand used to have them on the losest hook and eye and now have them on the tightest. I guess I might try measuring myself and ordering online...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 13:06

Meant to say yep - I was wearing Eu size 52 and now fit into the one old pair of size 46 jeans I have and one old pair of UK size 18 (those fit very comfortably and the EU 46 is a little tight although a 46 is meant to be an 18... might be the cut though). I wanted to wait until I was a 14-16 / comfortable 44...

EightToSixer · 25/10/2020 13:21

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme. I haven’t bought any new clothes yet. I’m lecturing from home atm so only have to look presentable from the chest up on zoom which helps. A lot of my jeans are jegging types and I just shove them in a hot tumble drier to shrink them a little. They’re baggy on the hips and thighs now so look a bit odd but I’m not seeing anyone to mind too much! Lockdown has come at the right time!

The main thing I notice is that everything is longer on me which I didn’t expect. As I lose weight tops and trousers seem longer I guess that’s because they’re not stretched out so much.
I plan on buying as little as possible until I go out in public again because I don’t plan on even new things fitting me for long.

I’ve gone from a size 28 to about a 22-24ish depending on cut. I can’t wait to be able to wear things from different shops after decades of being stuck in Evans. I always found Next generous so could wear their jeans/skirts etc in a 26, but never fit into their PJs which only go up to an XL which is a 20-22. I bought some this week and they fit!

I will throw away some clothes as I get smaller but I also have a few key things I’m keeping because they show just how much I’ve lost.
I’ll definitely need new bras soon, why do boobs always shrink the most?!?

Zebracat · 25/10/2020 13:46

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme. Insult away. They deserve it! Although to be fair they only compared me to aquatic creatures, and I was in a wetsuit!
I’m so envious of your weight loss. I also began in July and I have lost 6 kilos which is a bit pathetic. I have had success with IF in the past, but I have gout and understood fasting could trigger it,
but I’ve just had another look and think I might be ok on 18:6. I always walk in the mornings and think I will go back to breakfasting afterwards and make that a fat burning exercise, so there you go, you have inspired me.
