Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

They are doing slimming world meetings on zoom at the moment & it’s half price per session. It took a couple of weeks to get into a good format but they seem to be making it work quite well now. You could always contact your local group if that would appeal to you.

CookPassBabtridge · 01/05/2020 17:25

I was 20 stone and lost 8st in 8 months through meal replacements (wanted it off quick!) then switched to healthy eating and exercise. I've kept it off a few years now Smile

HouseTornado · 01/05/2020 17:27

Thanks, @Goggle1968.

I've managed to find a (illicit) plan that I'm going to get stuck into reading tonight/tomorrow. Then start Sunday if I think I can do it.

I'll then join the meetings if I can nail the first week!

Passmethepepsi · 01/05/2020 17:53

I lost 6 stone then two kids later and implant causing massive weight I’ve put 5 back on Sad. Absolutely devastated with myself and now I’m basically with coronavirus I’m utterly terrified for my life.

I am off to kick start my diet tomorrow. We can do this!

aufaitaccompli · 01/05/2020 18:11

@FATEdestiny .. very thoughtful posts, thank you very much.
I need to lose 6.5/7 stones. I'm 5'9. I never get asked out on dates etc because I look too bloody big. (Mentioning this because it's a motivation for me)

I like your perspective re the psychological battle. I have a great tendency to over complicate things due to indecision and probably a lot of stress and trauma over the years. This habit or way of being is my biggest enemy.

I want to feel healthy, strong and be a better role model for my children.

I'm in. Going to fast and do low carb. I have achieved so much already in my life, this is my final major hurdle.

Good luck everyone. Towards contentment, self-compassion and inner harmony Flowers Flowers

Nixi4 · 01/05/2020 18:26

@housetornado happy to buddy up, it seems that there are a few of us

Emerald4512 · 01/05/2020 23:24

@HouseTornado yes it's very straight forward and the app is what makes it so easy to follow as it counts the syns for you.

HouseTornado · 02/05/2020 08:05

Thanks, @Emerald4512, it does look easy enough.

I also seem to have pretty much everything I need food wise to make a start tomorrow, so that's my plan. I don't drink or have a sweet tooth, so I'm not overly worried about Syns at this stage.

Rather, my daily treat is 2 cans of AF beer, which are 4 syns each - this will what I'll be using my allowance on.

@Nixi4 @aufaitaccompli @Passmethepepsi @Modestandatinybitsexy and anyone else that wants to join me, I'm starting tomorrow.

I'll stick on this thread seeing as we are already here.

Good luck!

Callmesausage · 02/05/2020 10:13

Can I join you? Huge amount to lose and been in the diet wagon, losing and gaining around 7 stone and so completely done with this feeling now.
@HouseTornado yes please to joining a new thread.

HouseTornado · 02/05/2020 14:10

Hello, @Callmesausage, of course.

I'll keep the thread going here seeing as it belongs originally to @Modestandatinybitsexy, and see how it goes.

If it thins out I'll start a new one.

For the record, I have 4 stone to lose, not a small amount...

Callmesausage · 02/05/2020 14:36

Thanks house. Going to try my best this weekend with no snacking then start in earnest Monday.

HouseTornado · 03/05/2020 06:34

Morning, everyone. I am up, weighed, and ready to go. Here's my weigh in and my meal plan for today.

03/05/20: 16.2 stone

BF: 1 x wholemeal toast (HEXB) + 2 eggs
LU: Tuna pasta salad, easy on the pasta
DI: Roast chicken, lots of veggies

Snacks: Fruit, and a muller light. Syns: 2 x AF beer if I want them (8)

Exercise: Family cycle.

I'm going to stick to this for a week and see what happens. After that if it's working then I'll just keep going!

Emerald4512 · 03/05/2020 10:52

I would say for you to have your syns as it can make your body go into 'starvation mode'. I did it for one of the weeks and lost nothing but then the next week and the previous week I used my full syns and lost 3 pounds both weeks!

RedAzalea · 03/05/2020 11:44

i previously lost 5 stone on the BIWI low carb threads here on mumsnet

kept it all off for 3 years, then the menopause hit and that coincided with work changes and exercise routine stopping

so now here i am with 6 stone to lose!

Callmesausage · 03/05/2020 21:22

Good luck everyone. I’m starting in the morning and aiming to lose 7 stone.

Joyfulincolour · 03/05/2020 23:25

Thanks OP for this thread. There are obviously quite a few of us in the same boat. I want to lose 6 stones but over the last 25 years I feel I’ve tried all the usual commercial diets available. WW worked for me years ago but I was swimming daily too. I find weight loss in my late 40s is much harder & slower. Like you @FATEdestiny I know what I should be eating and doing to lose weight. I’m going to write myself a list of aims/wants to hold myself accountable: I want to eat normal foods rather than synthetic versions of foods; I want to sort out a plan for myself rather than buying into a commercial company as I want this to be a long term lifestyle change rather than risking putting the weight back on if I come off the diet; I need to find an exercise that I can do that doesn’t make my back/hip/foot hurt ☹️; I need to get from a BMI of 37 to nearer 25; my ultimate aim of this is for more energy; to reduce the health risks I’m currently putting myself at; to be able to buy clothes from a normal shop instead of looking to see if their range goes up to a size 22 then realising it doesn’t look right on me! It would be great to keep this thread going folks.

HouseTornado · 04/05/2020 08:12

Good luck everyone starting today - we can do it!

@Emerald4512 I had my two AF beers yesterday, not to worry!

@Joyfulincolour we are all just doing what we can in the current circumstances, slowly is better in the long term. I don't want to give my money to a diet club or eat pretend food either - eat better, eat less, move more is my mantra!

Here's my food today:

BF: Same (eggs on toast)
LU: Ham salad with cottage cheese
DI: Jacket & beans, more salad.

Fruit and muller light for snacks. Try and persude DS out for a walk or I'll go on my own later.

Nixi4 · 04/05/2020 21:28

I technically started last week.. so today was my weigh in and I’ve lost 4lb! I’m thinking about the best way to do this for me...so I’ve a bit of a blended approach. I have a meal replacement shake for breakfast and lunch.. as I’m really busy with work that is perfect... then keto dinner (not dirty keto)... I could have pushed myself harder and lost more but this has to be sustained for a really long time so don’t want to burn myself out too quickly.. after work 2.5mile walk

Callmesausage · 04/05/2020 22:54

Well done @Nixi4, great start.

First day down today, managed ok but need to do a food shop to get fruit. Hope everyone had a good day.

Namechanger0800 · 07/05/2020 09:23

Hi all - is this still active and can I join? I have just under 6 stone to lose....have lost 11 lbs so far but a lot of stop starting and I really need to commit to something.

@FATEdestiny that's really inspirational and great tips. Do you have a blog or something we can follow??

Callmesausage · 07/05/2020 10:05

Morning all. How are we all doing?

Purrmuda · 07/05/2020 16:02

Im doing OK despite not having scales to measure loss, I think Im beginning to see outline of a collar bone!!
I sometimes struggle with boredom eating so have even had a nap to fend off time spent with snacks. Otherwise I have a big drink of squash or coffee or something.

Namechanger0800 · 08/05/2020 10:33

Morning all - so completed my first day yesterday with a definite calorie deficit and also got in a brisk walk. I was hungry though .... but tried to rephrase it in my mind to a positive as in that means I am doing well! I very very rarely let myself get to a stage of feeling hungry! Funnily enough after 30 mins the feeling went away so prob psychological.

Yesterday I had a cappuccino with full fat milk, spinach and 30g cheese omelette and then chicken breast & ratatouille, 3 strawberries

Kids made brownies and managed to say no.... which was hard as chocolate is my weak point

Plan is to do the same today... poached egg, mushrooms & smoked salmon for brunch with some berries maybe and salmon for dinner plus my cappuccino. Everyone else is having homemade pizza but I'm not going there.

Also trying to drink water.... I just don't drink cold drinks and always struggle with this. Managed a litre yesterday and trying to up to 2 litres but do struggle with this.

How's everyone else getting on and when are people weighing in? I'm going with Sunday mornings

Purrmuda · 09/05/2020 09:47

Well done!
I must try and get a brisk walk or five done this week.
You've also reminded me to drink more water. I might actually print out a daily list of things I should be doing instead of eating and put it in the fridge!

Namechanger0800 · 09/05/2020 10:20

Yes I have written myself a list of goals - not called them 'rules' as such - might be good to print them out to maintain focus?

First goal is to get to 15 stone which would be a loss of 1 stone 12lbs ... see what tomorrow's self imposed weigh in shows!

Smoked salmon & poached egg and spinach, berries for brunch and then chicken skewers with salad for tea.

Still not cracking the water issue but am doing better
