Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Zebracat good for you wearing a wetsuit!

It sounds as if we're similar weights now - I started heavier than you. We can so this virtually together Grin

I added walking to IF about a month ago and am getting really into it. Did my longest walk so far this afternoon - about 12 km. I only do about 2 miles on working days though. So the walking is perhaps similar too.

I can't see how daily interval fasting can be harmful its just how many people eat naturally. 5:2 or one meal a day or alternate day fasting interpreted as 36 hours of fasting and one meal (so only eating 3 meals per week) and longer fasts make me a bit concerned, but eating normally every day between 10am and 6pm or just eating a healthy lunch at 12 and a healthy dinner at 5:30 and not snacking in the evening is perfectly normal and healthy really...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 17:24

EightToSixer thanks for replying - it's interesting that you're resisting buying anything for now. I'm also looking forward to more choice of places to buy clothes. A lot of places only go to a 44/ 16...

I've never really been in lock down as I work in social care, so Corona has meant more time physically at work rather than less (our residents were in lockdown and not allowed to go to their sheltered workshop, so we had to cover 24/7/364 instead of just non working hours when everyone else was home working). We're still doing 24/7 now as we have shielded residents who still can't work. We wear our own clothes so although theyre casual I'd sort of like them to fit Grin

Gingernaut · 25/10/2020 17:29

If you really need clothes that fit well, then charity shops are an option.

The smaller you are, the greater the choice of clothes.

Added bonus: you can try some things which you wouldn't ordinarily buy, because it's so cheap, it's not too big a dent in the wallet.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 17:47

Gingernaut its a good idea, I suspect I should have disclosed not in the UK status. Charity shops don't really exist here, and second hand shops only really for "high end" children's and ski wear.

I don't urgently need clothes that fit more than anyone else, I'm just beginning to feel a bit odd with bulges of gathered material making odd shapes under my tops. It doesn't really matter - I do the kind of job where clients will notice and ask but I don't mind answering honestly if it's clients asking - the thing is they'll point out that if the lost weight we'd make sure that they got the chance to buy new clothes Grin

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/10/2020 17:50

also I'm not small - I just started really big! If I were smaller I could do oversized as a casual "look", but as I'm only down to an 18 its much easier to look messy and slightly homeless than it is to look like a Hush model Grin

I was 24 stone, I had a gastric bypass on the nhs, I had to lose 1st over 6 months and keep it off, as well as seeing a dietician every 4 weeks, and a psychiatrist, and following an extremely strict diet before I was allowed to have the surgery. In total with waiting list times (and Covid etc) it took just over 2 years, and I had surgery at the end of August this year. I’m now 19 stones just over two months later. If your struggling I just wanted you to know their are other options out there. I had lost weight successfully in the past (although my metabolism was terrible!) but I would always put it back on again (and more!) in the long run, Its so daunting when you have so much weight to lose!
I just wanted to be healthier for my little boy and i felt so helpless; I had tried every diet/exercise regime you can imagine.
I’m now mentally a lot happier, i know that I will lose weight so I can relax and stop thinking about it and about food every moment of the day, I eat healthily and balanced. I don’t have that all consuming feeling of guilt (I used to have it all the time even when making good choices) and I even have more energy than I did pre-surgery!
It’s not for everyone and it’s still really hard work, So I’m not recommending it per say - you would have to do your own research on it and make your own decision - but I just wish I had even known it was an option for me earlier.

I haven't had to buy any clothes but this is because I kept clothes from size or two below. Also i found that the bigger clothes fit much better now!

So I'm actually having a really great experience pulling stuff out the back of my wardrobe and seeing if it fits- some of it is and some doesn't- so is inspiring me for the next stage of my journey!

My jeans don't look great - too baggy at the top but I don't want to buy any more. I have three pairs of new jeans in my wardrobe in a smaller size so just waiting until they fit.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 27/10/2020 17:11

I bought two pairs of jeans on my way home from work today. I haven't been in-person clothes shopping for so long that I didn't even know changing rooms are open where I live and I was disproportionally pleased that all the size 46 jeans fit comfortably - the one pair I have at home which is slightly tight is low cut, but all the "normal rise" ones in different brands fit, so Ice bought two pairs - and a belt as I'd made new holes in one of mine and cut the end off, so it looked a bit daft!

Its astounding how good and comfortable I feel in jeans which fit :) Even though theyre still a size most people would be horrified to get up to... 3 sizes smaller than my biggest pair and 2 sizes smaller than the smallest ones I could wear (which were from a generously sized plus brand and had stretch) in July though! alphaechokiwi · 27/10/2020 17:28

@UntilYourNextHairBrainefScheme that's a great achievement.... congratulations. 3 sizes down in jeans is a very big difference...well done. I hope you have a big smile on your face wearing those jeans....

alphaechokiwi · 27/10/2020 17:29

Sorry, I don't think I tagged you correctly
@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

Winningatseesaw · 28/10/2020 22:37

@untilyournexthairbrainedscheme

What a great no scale victory! Doesn't matter what size they are, well fitting clothes will always look better than too big or too small clothes. Go you. Great result!

I'm sure it won't be long until you go down another size!

Spidey66 · 29/10/2020 12:36

I'm late to the party but want to join in.

This time I was 17 stone Blush and I'm only 5'4. My GP told me I was prediabetic. That put the fear of God into me and I lost 1.5 stone, but it all went pear shaped during lockdown, even though I continued to work, all the uncertainty etc made me comfort eat.

I have regained some, but fortunately only about half a stone-I thought it was more. So I'm 16 stone now and hate it.

I had bloods over the summer and fortunately am out of the prediabetic range, however I arthritis in my knees and possibly my ankles which I know is because of my weight and nothing else.

I used to go to the gym a lot but only really like the classes and occasional swimming. Post lockdown there are less classes and less spaces and they get booked up too quickly. However I can still exercise, we have an active dog (though not at present as she's just had the snip) have an exercise bike (did it to Eastenders couple of nights back!) and theres loads of YouTube videos for exercise.

My husband needs to shift some too, we've agreed to stop buying cakes/biscuits etc and to keep an eye on carbs portions. I think the restrictions might help-less time in the pub!!!

Spidey66 · 29/10/2020 12:36

'This time last year'.

Rebuildingconfidence · 29/10/2020 20:13

Hi, sorry I haven't been posting. Fallen off the wagon, struggling very badly with mental health etc. Trying to be more positive. Will try to start again.

Haven't been on the scales in weeks. I will weigh in on monday and start from there. Just waiting on my period arriving so utterly no point starting tomorrow!

Winningatseesaw · 29/10/2020 21:35

@rebuildingconfidence welcome back! It's a marathon not a sprint...and all about starting again when you've had a break. Sorry to hear about your mental health. That sounds like a lot to manage. Sending love.

Winningatseesaw · 29/10/2020 21:42

Hi @spidey66 welcome! Go you for losing a stone and keeping it off. Sounds like you're very motivated and good to have the husband on board :).

I've lost 1kg this week. Very pleased with that after last week's maintain.
Total loss- 22.2kgs (3stone 6 lbs)
Current weight- 92.4kgs (14stone 8lbs)
Start weight- 114.6kgs ( 18 stone)

Next goal is to get into the 89.6kgs (25kgs loss).

alphaechokiwi · 29/10/2020 21:54

@Winningatseesaw well done. 1kg is a great loss over a week and overall 22kgs is fantastic.

Rebuildingconfidence · 30/10/2020 15:20

@winningatseesaw you are doing so well! Great to hear positive stories, I find it so motivating!

Winningatseesaw · 31/10/2020 10:47

Thanks all.

In typical fashion, I've not had a good Friday or Saturday with food:(. Really eaten out of control and binged. Tomorrow is another day though so will just try and start afresh.

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Zebracat · 31/10/2020 22:30

Hi everyone. Sorry I’ve been missing for a week. I was doing really well , swimming daily and making good choices for food but just as I started to feel really in the groove, I got a prolapsed disc and trapped nerve. So can’t walk and feel miserable and the house Is full of teenager food. today has been baaad. I am not going to put on 5 kilos in this lockdown though, I’ve only just got rid of it. Back to food logging etc tomorrow.

alphaechokiwi · 01/11/2020 08:01

Hi @Zebracat I'm sorry you are struggling, that sounds awful. I hope you recover soon.
The next 4 weeks are going to be a struggle for us all... I've feel very selfish but I'm so upset that pools will close. In the last few weeks I've gained so much energy, my joints feel so much better and I am sleeping through the night....all thanks to swimming (and thanks to @Zebracat for suggesting it).
@Winningatseesaw I'm sorry you had a bad day. All is not lost if you view it as a blip and move on ..
I"be had a decent loss this week after 2 static weeks. I am relieved. 1.6kg loss, down to 106.4kg. I was seeing a lot over the last few days, so maybe I was retaining water.....
Wishing everyone a good week x

alphaechokiwi · 01/11/2020 08:01
  • weeing a lot, not seeing a lot!!!
Winningatseesaw · 01/11/2020 09:36

@Zebracat oooh back pain sounds awful. Take care of yourself.

@alphaechokiwi well done on your huge loss.

It's a long weekend here and just seem to be eating and eating and eating! Comes hand in hand with socialising for me unfortunately

Winningatseesaw · 05/11/2020 20:53
