Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

btw I like this chart for a psychological boost because often you've broken into another stone bracket (Zebra youre 15 stone 10, so you broke out of the 16 stone bracket 2kg ago) or you can pretend to be American and look at your weight in lb - alpha has already broken the 200lb barrier and is 198lb this week!

alphaechokiwi · 08/03/2021 08:59

Thanks @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme . That's really interesting. I can't really think in imperial measurements, but it's good to know I've broken the 200lb milestone. I've lost 50lb in total if my maths is right.

alphaechokiwi · 08/03/2021 11:02

Thanks @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme - I can't get my head around imperial measurements but breaking the 200lb mark is a nice milestone to cross...

alphaechokiwi · 08/03/2021 11:03

grrr... . sorry for the double post, I didn't see that the first one had posted....

Zebracat · 10/03/2021 10:28

Weighed on a non weigh day, and I did it! 99.4. I am so pleased to be under 100. And I know I’ve said it before but I really mean it this time. I ain’t ever going back there! Really hoping I can kick on from here.
Thanks for the chart, hare. I would have thought I was 16 stone something, so that was a boost.
My next mini goal is 98 kilos, because that’s what I was last time I got weighed at the GP surgery, in November 2018 was really embarrassing because it was for a fostering assessment and went into documents and it’s just not great if everyone in a room knows you are obese. But they also knew that I was a smoker, and I stopped that the following month. The year before I’d lost a lot of weight, but then had some very stressful events and gained some back. I feel like shedding this weight is helping me get my whole life back on track..
Sorry for the essay.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 10/03/2021 11:02

Well done Zebracat I'm really pleased for you! Onwards and ... erm... downwards! Grin

alphaechokiwi · 10/03/2021 11:13

Woo hoo! I'm really pleased for you @Zebracat ....

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 11/03/2021 05:15

82.0 kg this week which is almost a full kg up from last week and I don't have any idea why - haven't over indulged or done anything different to weeks when I lose a kg ... Normal fluctuation I guess... Not the first time it's happened so will just keep going!

Zebracat · 11/03/2021 08:56

Those upward fluctuations do often seem to happen as you get close to changing the front number, don’t they?
You must be feeling pretty secure in your strategy tho, Hare, it’s working so well, spect there’ll be an extra big drop next week.

alphaechokiwi · 11/03/2021 17:56

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme - that must be frustrating for you. I've had a few gains for no apparent reason.... I suppose metabolisms are complex.
You'll hopefully have a bigger than usual drop next week...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 12/03/2021 05:56

Thank you Zebra and alphaechokiwi - its fairly easy to roll with it at this stage as I know what I'm doing is working overall. Weight loss is 98% a mental state IMO, and I'm not getting onto the emotional rollercoaster which leads to emotional eating out of frustration and disappointment! Better to put it into perspective and shrug it off IMO!

alphaechokiwi · 14/03/2021 06:28

89.6kg this morning, happy to be into the 80s (just about!!).

Zebracat · 14/03/2021 09:05

98.9 for me. Very pleased. Over a kilo in a week.
I’m not in control of the household food, and this week it has been awful. Takeaway fish and chips, hotdogs and pizza. I kept wanting to cook but no one likes the veggie stuff I cook( I eat meat and fish but shouldn’t have it morethan 2-3 times a week)It is starting to feel a bit like sabotage. So I had a serious talk with Dh about working together on the meal planning and cooking. He honestly believes he is supporting me by cooking less roasties on a Sunday. He warns the kids(young adults) when I’m cooking so they can make their own arrangements and eat junk instead.. he just is not getting that we all need to eat healthily, particularly our son who is morbidly obese.
It is difficult to change when you live in a family. I know we all have these challenges, and I am getting better about not falling into these traps, but it surely should be possible for a family of 4 to eat healthy food 75% of the time. I’m not wanting us to all live on raw veg and nuts.
Anyway, rant over. We have a birthday next weekend and there will be a blowout meal and a beautiful cake. I just want to balance that with some fish and vegetable meals.

alphaechokiwi · 14/03/2021 10:45

Morning @Zebracat , very well done on your loss. Especially in difficult circumstances. It's really hard when trying to look after a family. I tend to do my own thing for breakfast and lunch (if I'm not fasting) and work on portion control and small swaps for dinners. But it can be mentally exhausting and has been the reason I've given up in the past. I hope you manage to navigate a solution for yourself. Sounds like whatever you did this week worked well...
Enjoy the birthday blowout!

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 10:59

Zebracat I so know what you mean about eating with a family. I have a double whammy of a "work family" as well as my husband and 3 teens/ preteen. I cook with the residents at work and they and colleagues expect me to eat with them, then I often get home to find one of the children has saved me a portion of what they cooked the family and sits opposite my place at the table proudly, expecting me to sit and enjoy what they've put hard work into cooking, so I eat twice! For this reason I often fast right through til dinner then eat a meal at 5:30pm at work and a meal at 7:30pm as soon as I get in, and neither are my choices! Such is life, but not always nutritionally or psychologically ideal! DD cooks very healthy food but very carb heavy - usually veggie or fish but always involving pasta or rice, which I think my body holds onto - I'd ideally choose to have lots of vegetables and protein and sometimes potatoes, I don't even especially like pasta and wouldn't miss it if I never ate it... The residents also favour lots of carbs and sausage/ pork and bread in their meal preferences... hmm...

Well done alphaechokiwi and Zebra on both your losses, you're both doing incredibly atm! I'll next weigh on Thursday or Friday.

Zebracat · 14/03/2021 14:16

Crikey 2 dinner Hare! That does sound difficult. I am navigating it, but it could be easier. Dh suitably chastened and says he gets it so we will see. It is funny, I’ve always loved carbs, but I do seem to manage with much less of them now.And I just don’t like processed and greasy food.
I really appreciate the support, worrying now that you two will reach your goals and I will still be wallowingin the obese category, think I have 15 kilos before I get to overweight, altho will check that. Should have kept going in October.

I just eat those two meals, so it doesn't sabotage completely, but I'd rather choose! I've got used to fasting 20 hours then effectively eating with two families at least 3 times per week - like a lot of us I feel I juggle the feelings of a lot of other people with my own.

I do wish the ploppers would stop, especially the ones actually spamming link adverts...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 17:17

BTW what does everyone think about starting a new thread with the words "mutual support" in the title - it might cut down on the number of ploppers the current thread title atteacts, especially the ones actually spamming links to sites selling diet plans though the smarmy patronising posters just plopping in to deliver a patronising lecture to the thicko fatties who obviously don't know that eating too much and never moving from the couch stops you losing weight annoy me just as much even if they're not selling, just stroking their own egos

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 17:40

Its actually easier when I have a night shift as I only eat once on those days, but I still don't have any choice about what I eat unless I want to eat something different to the residents, which draws inappropriate attention IMO. We have a young woman with very disordered eating and an unhelpful amount of patental emphasis on slimness and giving - erm - unusual diet advice in the group already...

alphaechokiwi · 14/03/2021 17:55

@Zebracat - I'm here for the long haul....I have at least (I think) 12kg to lose to cross from obese to overweight, and 27kg more to go before I am a 'healthy' BMI. I'm just nearing my half way point, so I won't be going anywhere for a long while...
@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme - I reported our friend the spammer and MNHQ were pretty quick to delete. But yes If you want to start a new thread for mutual support aimed at those of us with lots to lose, I'm in. This one is nearly full now anyway. When I started, being 50kg overweight made me feel like it would be nearly impossible to keep going and this thread has been a huge support.
Totally awesome that you have managed to lose 40kg having two dinners🤣🤣🤣.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 19:45

alphaechokiwi I reported too, yep MN HQ were really speedy in response, very impressive!
I thought of asking for a change of thread title to indicate its now a long running mutual support thread, but as you say the thread is nearly full so not much point.

On days I eat two dinners I don't eat breakfast or lunch or anything else whatsoever, honestly, and there are just as many days on which I only eat the one meal and nothing else whatsoever, or a steamed vegetables and fish lunch and just one dinner BlushGrinBlushGrin I'm not really advocating the two dinners diet ConfusedGrinBlush

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/03/2021 19:56

I'm in this for the long haul too btw. I am out of the obese category now but only just (BMI of exactly 29 - it was 41 when I started), and have 12kg to lose to get into the healthy weight category. Who knows how long that'll take with things fluctuating, and sometimes I think I'll try maintenance at a slightly higher weight if other health factors like waist size are healthy and the last few kg are stubborn. I certainly rember being content indeed with being about 7kg lighter than I am now around the time we got married, and I'm not completely convinced being just 5kg overweight makes a significant difference to health...

I'd like to stay on the thread even if/ when I get there, as I think maintenance is a whole different ball game for those of us who've lost a lot to people who have always been a healthy weight or never hit the obese/ morbidly obese category (which I did hit with my start weight last summer).
