Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Well done @snappycamper. It's tricky isn't it, the choice between extreme dieting and going slowly but I think going slower rather than extreme is the only way you can sustain it for any period of time. Maybe a week of being even more strict every month or so may make you feel you are losing more?

Well, my WI was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a sts, but nope - 3lbs down. Not really quite sure how that happened but I checked and double checked and triple checked and it still kept coming out the same. I did go back to making sure I drink lots of water (in the form of squash) which has previously helped a lot but otherwise have snacked more than I should. I have also been pretty active but again not in an obvious way, so golf and lots of cleaning and clear-outs at home which have got me sweating.

I shall happily take it though Smile

I STS today as well. I’m not ok with it. Think I’ve been so busy on the positive thinking front that I kind of forgot that I have to also limit my food intake.
I’ve got a day on my own today, rare luxury with child at school and Dh gone to his hobby. I have a long list of stuff to do, and nowhere on it am I told to snarf down leftovers or eat Greek yoghurt with maple syrup, but I did. Oh well. Got up at 5.30 and walked the dogs and I have been busy so maybe that can be a very very early lunch

Rebuildingconfidence · 08/09/2020 22:41

@zebracat at least you are exercising and that will have long term health benefits. I hope you had a good day!

I just came in to say that I went to a yoga class this evening - my first ever at 38 years old! It was a beginner's class but I found it brutal. I was the biggest person there but I did ok. The teacher was great and I intend to go back.

I walked home afterwards which was a decent 30 min uphill. When I got home I was starving and I did have biscuits and toast - oops.

Feeling great now though, really stretched and relaxed.

Thanks@Rebuildingconfidence. I am active, used to go to yoga, I must see if my class has restarted. It is great for toning tummies too. It’s also on my list to book swimming online. I know I have forgotten my username and password for that one.
We are having some landscaping done from tomorrow and I’m going to be labouring for them, so I know from past experience that means I can eat whatever I want!

Winningatseesaw · 10/09/2020 23:13

Well done everyone with their activity. I'm really concentrating on upping my steps and seems to be going well. I have increased my water intake which is good but maybe still not enough - anyone know how much we should be drinking per day?

I stayed the same this week - 96.6. Sigh. Looking at my list of weigh ins every 5 weeks I have a maintain so maybe it's just the way my body is.

Nixi4 · 14/09/2020 07:54

-3lb since my last weigh in here.. not great but I've lost the gains and I'm on the downward trend again! Not beating myself up about it.. this is a marathon not a sprint so occasional rests are 👍

Top tips from me (after 3.5 stone lost):

  1. move more, walking is less likely to cause injury than running
  2. drink more water.. staying hydrated is key
  3. intermittent fasting is fantastic as long as you don't eat 'normally' when not fasting.. remember this is the eating pattern that caused obesity.
  4. find your new normal for eating.. mine is almost total elimination of sugar, as this is my trigger!
Rebuildingconfidence · 14/09/2020 09:55

Well done @Nixi4 agreed that this is a marathon and the key is to stick with it and keep going even when you slip up.

I am looking at another week of STS. I blame feeling ill for the past week, however I had a good weekend and stuck to my 16/8, tried to move more, and restarted my planks, etc. I am looking forward to really getting back on track this week!

Fitbeforeihit50 · 14/09/2020 19:11

0.4kg lost here, down to 108.9kg. I’m only 100g from being obese rather than morbidly obese! So near yet so far!! The whole marathon thing is definitely true.

@Nixi4 3.5 stone is amazing, well done!!

@Winningatseesaw I was once told 3l of water a day, more than the standard 2l as we’re obese and larger so need more. I wake with a cup of tea then try and drink a pint of water or squash before breakfast. I then try another pint mid morning then after that I just drink when I fancy it. Not sure if that is enough but I definitely find drinking that bit extra water seems to help.

Wk 1 - 113.5kg (17st 12lbs)
Wk 2 - 113.1kg (17st 11lbs)
Wk 3 - 113.6kg (17st 12lbs)
Wk 4 - 111.5kg (17st 8lbs)
Wk 5 - 111.0kg (17st 7lbs)
Wk 6 - 109.5kg (17st 3.5lbs)
Wk 7 - 109.9kg (17st 4lbs)
Wk 8 - 109.6kg (17st 3.5lbs)

Wk 10 - 109.3kg (17st 3lbs)
Wk 11 - 108.9kg (17st 2lbs)

I will soon stop listing every week every time!!

Nixi4 · 14/09/2020 20:32

@Fitbeforeihit50 keep up the good work! It was a big line for me crossing from morbid obesity to the standard kind 😁.. my next big target is being overweight.

Fitbeforeihit50 · 14/09/2020 22:11

Thanks @Nixi4

It would be a dream to be ‘overweight’. Is there a distinction at BMI of 35?, I didn’t think so would be nice if there was though 🤔

Winningatseesaw · 15/09/2020 04:54

@Fitbeforeihit50 well done for hitting 1.5 stone loss! Great work.

I can't wait to hit overweight category but that's still almost 17 kgs away for me.

Oh wow 3L water. I'm doing nowhere near that. With lots of trying I hope to hit 2 L today but it's a big effort!

I'm trying to keep planking as well :)

Fitbeforeihit50 · 15/09/2020 08:59

I hadn’t realised it was 1.5 stone - thanks for that Smile

Rebuildingconfidence · 15/09/2020 09:32

Weigh in and I have STS.

While not what I had hoped for, I have to be realistic and say actually this is an achievement for me as I have been struggling hugely. Work stress, permanent head cold from the kids going back to school.

Food has always been my medicine and my escape. I need to up my exercise.

Zebracat · 15/09/2020 11:11

100.2 kg. So I have lost a tiny amount of weight.
We are building a retaining wall , so I have been labouring for 4 days and eaten whatever I wanted, one lunch was a Greggs sausage roll and millionaires shortbread. But can’t help feeling that if I’d turned down some of the junk I would be under 100 kilos now, and swanning around in a size 8 bikini, not! Oh well, if we’d been doing this 2 months ago, I wouldn’t have been able to help, so progress has been made.

Fitbeforeihit50 · 15/09/2020 15:31

@Rebuildingconfidence A STS is indeed an achievement in a period of stress, so congratulate yourself on that. A year ago it would probably have been a gain which you've avoided.

@Zebracat Well you've enjoyed the food and still had a loss. And been able to help at something previously out of reach for you. Well done!

Rebuildingconfidence · 15/09/2020 19:13

@fitbeforeihit50 thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I think you are right.

Today I went to yoga, walked, and cycled.

@zebracat you are so close! Next week, hopefully!

Zebracat · 15/09/2020 20:13

@Rebuildingconfidence, fingers crossed for both of us.

Winningatseesaw · 16/09/2020 03:07

@zebracat next week you'll be into double figures for sure. Go you!

That's a great amount of exercise @rebuildingconfidence. I've never tried yoga but would like to

Namechanger0800 · 17/09/2020 11:17

Hi- so I've gone abit off plan last 3.5 weeks. Started with a sneaky treat here and just kept being added to. So have only lost 2 lbs in nearly a month but since Monday I've been back on it and feeling the motivation again.

I have managed to not completely binge day after day etc - knew this already but sugar is not my friend. It's just addictive, doesn't fill me up and makes me hungry, plus my skin is all dry and flaky which I haven't had for ages. I've had to cut all sugar out, even fruit and dairy for a few days to get the cravings to stop .....that surely tells me refined sugar is not my friend. So- now I've detoxed again it's just very dark choc and fruit - will I ever learn my lesson?

Namechanger0800 · 17/09/2020 11:20

Oh and meant to say loss is currently 3 stone 8 lbs so I am over half way now as well with my goal weight so cannot fuck this up

Zebracat · 17/09/2020 14:42

Well done for getting back to it. It is so hard once the treats creep in. Even with just 150 grams D to get me under 100 k, I still just ate a kitkat. Grr

Winningatseesaw · 17/09/2020 23:05

The path to weight loss never seems to be straight down - always a little wiggly! Well done all for getting back on to it

At my weigh in, I've lost 1kg (2.2 lbs). After last week's maintain, that was good.

So current weight - 95.6kgs (15.stone and 0.7 lbs apparently!)

Total lost - 19kgs (2 stone 13.8lbs)

So close to 3 stone loss and 20kgs down! Keeping fingers crossed.
