Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

It's not been quite a week yet but I could not resist stepping on the scale. So far I am 2kg down which is great. Going to be doing some more batch cooking this weekend to make sure this will continue. Found it quite easy this week as there is room for some treats every day if I want them. So I have a little lunch bar of chocolate and lunch bag of crisps most days.

I will wait until I have a lost a chunk of weight before thinking of what exercise I should do other than walking. I don't want to do too much too soon and fail.

For those struggling with the plank, you can start with the easier variation and build up. It is the first variation on this video:

Rebuildingconfidence · 29/08/2020 13:21

Just did a 20 second plank, plus a few sit ups and other exercises. It took me six minutes so not exactly earth shattering, but for the important thing is that I did it.

This thread has motivated me into making changes. Before I started this, I would always put it off by saying I was so obese that there was no point in even trying.

Proud of myself for continuing to try and hopeful that I can lose weight and decrease my waist size!

Nixi4 · 29/08/2020 17:26

@Rebuildingconfidence 👏 well done.. anything we do is absolutely better than not doing.. 23k steps for me yesterday and that would have seemed impossible a couple months ago!

Rebuildingconfidence · 30/08/2020 10:17

@nixi4 well done!

I messed up last night and had some drinks and then two packets of crisps at midnight!

Means I can't eat until 4pm today if I want to maintain the 16/8 , but I will see how I get on.

Checked the scales this morning and the damage isn't immediately apparent.

I did download my fitness pal. Depressing as my weight recorded in July 2018 was 90 kg, which means I gained 18 kg in 2 years. Heading back downwards now, hopefully!

Have a good day everyone x

Hi All. Pleased to think of planks happening all over. Rebuilding confidence, you really didn’t mess up, you just had a Saturday night, love yourself!
I’ve been ill, so no planks and lots of toast, which definitely helped me feel better. Had a Covid test which came back negative so that’s a relief.
I am going to try to be more active today.

Rebuildingconfidence · 30/08/2020 14:05

@zebracat I am planking every chance I get lol

Zebracat · 30/08/2020 17:21

Good for you, confidence. I have been trying to reclaim my veg garden, but I might try a Plank or two now.. it’s an hour till dinner and I am starving.

Rebuildingconfidence · 31/08/2020 10:13

Just checking in on waist measurements:

26/08 114cm (44.8 inches)
31/08 110cm (43.3 inches)

Very aware I am still in the danger zone for waist measurement but still impressed at what five days of sit ups and planking has achieved! Very motivated to continue and hope that in the next few months I will get into the merely unhealthy zone rather than life threatening!!!

Zebracat · 31/08/2020 11:09

Bloody hell. That is extraordinary. Ive done my plank today, and starting to familiarise myself with the knee slider crunch, I am really motivated to persist with this by your numbers. Well done

Zebracat · 31/08/2020 11:16

I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any clothes until I had lost at least 15. kilos, but here I am teetering between 5 and 6 kilos and really tempted to buy a few things. I don’t need to do it, my clothes have become much more wearable, I’ve even got some jeans I can do up, . I can’t let normal life resume like that. In a heartbeat I’ll be telling myself that if I fit into a Cos extra large, I’m not really too fat. But I really am.

Rebuildingconfidence · 31/08/2020 11:46

Try to resist @zebracat because before you know it, the clothes you buy now will be too big for you.

I am also enjoying my clothes fitting better. I was in denial about my size increase so still trying to cram myself into sizes that fit ten kilos ago. They definitely hang better now.

Zebracat · 31/08/2020 12:46

Thanks , that’s a very positive spin on it!

Weigh in day - stayed the same this week but I am ok with that. Will renew efforts this week and hopefully a loss next week.

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 11:18

My weigh in too.100.8 kilos, a 300 gram loss. I am very happy with this as I was ill for 2 days and ate toast and biscuits. I had diverticulitis and it s odd, but that is the food which helps. I had a really active day yesterday, and I’ve done my plank and knee slider crunches this morning, and walked the dogs. I am hopeful that this is the week for me to get under 100 kilos. And stay there!
Just had a read of some other threads about weight loss. Made me glad of this one. Someone eating tiny amounts of food, so that at 5ft 8 , they can get under 9 stone.I am not judging, because I made no comment, but that sort of stuff did make me feel for years that my attitude to food, ie eat whatever you want, whenever you want, was healthier. I know it is not and I am aiming for the middle ground now, but it is all such a minefield. Maybe they all have tiny frames and really light bones or something.

Rebuildingconfidence · 01/09/2020 12:31

Well done @zebracat !!!

Fingers crossed for next week.

I am feeling rubbish today, will try not to use that feeling as an excuse to eat a lot.

Winningatseesaw · 01/09/2020 13:52

Well done @zebracat and @rebuildingconfidence for losing/not gaining. Hope I'm as successful this week!

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 15:28

@Winningatseesaw
When do you weigh Yourself?
I weigh. Every day but only record it on Tuesdays.

Rebuildingconfidence · 01/09/2020 21:04

Really bad day today as the tesco delivery came so I have been having snacks all day but I did go out for a decent walk for the first time in ages. The hills nearly killed me but I am glad I did it.

Winningatseesaw · 01/09/2020 22:41

@zebracat I weigh on Friday morning but am wondering whether to weigh more often.

Winningatseesaw · 01/09/2020 22:43

@zebracat I weigh Friday morning but am wondering whether to change this or weigh more often.

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 23:29

Current thinking seems to be to weigh once a week. I’m afraid I need to hold myself to account or I startminimalusing..
@Rebuildingconfidence. I think it was a bit disappointing for you that you hadnt lost weight today. Eat when you are hungry, but try not to just because it’s there. You seem so much more active and less stuck than when you first started posting. We’ve lost the same amount, about 5 kilos, in the same time span, about 6 weeks, and that is great. It is so hard when the scales don’t move, and I think all of us got into this pickle by using food for comfort,. We have made positive and sensible changes, and I don’t want to go back to cramming food in mindlessly for the mouth feel and the short term energy rush.
I definitely don’t want those 5 kilos back. They had really tipped me over the edge in terms of aching joints, sweat rashes, yeastiness, and general sweatymessness.
It’s all right to eat, it doesn’t make a day bad, and a good long walk will have surely covered it. We are doing fine. Feel proud.

Rebuildingconfidence · 02/09/2020 17:32

I can feel it all falling apart unfortunately. Every year when I have my holidays I lose weight because I have time to relax and I have a really good break.

Now I am back to normality. Husband is away working and I am trying to do everything.

I just did a plank though so I am at least trying to get back on track! Please let me keep this going! I can't face another Christmas big.

Zebracat · 02/09/2020 19:46

@Rebuildingconfidence, we could have both easily lost 15 kilos by Christmas. We could be talking about getting under 90 kilos. It doesn’t matter a damn what the scales say. You know you look and feel better, and you can do a plank. . Besides, selfishly I need you to keep going, you are really helping me. If you stop you may well fall into that horrible downward spiral of self loathing and Over eating. You could be 10 kilos heavier by next month.
I can’t remember how you are doing this, if it’s calories, give yourself another 500; and eat more, or spend it on junk.If it’s intermittent fasting go 8:16 for a few days It’s the guilt and negativity that hurts us most. You really can lose weight and be healthy. Your goal this week is to keep believing in yourself and to stay the same, and to nail that bloody plank. I feel really bad that I can’t remember how you are doing it.
I just had my favourite dinner, onion bacon and potato. Hotpot. I thought it would be ok if I had a small portion after a really busy day, but I had 3 helpings. I dont care, I will try and cut back a bit tomorrow. We don’t have to be perfect!
