Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Hi @Solina welcome to the thread.

Well done on the loss @Fatandnearly50 ...at least the scales are going down.

@Zebracat I know what you mean about junk creeping in. For me, it's making sure it doesn't snowball. Do struggle with weekends for sure. Try to have only one day where I'm over calories and then try and drop down other days to make up for it.

Reported the spam below.

If I don't have a good loss this week I might have to change something up. Not sure what though!

Nixi4 · 26/08/2020 12:12

Morning all, and welcome to the newbies.. it's good to see that we can keep this going!

I'm starting to see the difference physically in loosing weight, and have accepted that my skin won't look as 'plump' as the fat goes. What is everyone doing to try to prevent loose skin? I've accepted that have loose skin is better than being morbidly obese, but still want to do what I can to avoid it!

@daisyhead08 are you still lurking? Are you going to join back in

daisyhead08 · 26/08/2020 12:16

Ii'm here @Nixi4, thanks for checking. I'm still seeing the same number on the scales so have revised my aim and happy to maintain until 23rd until the 10 week programme starts up again. I am returning to teaching after 5 years of lecturing in teacher education and obviously picked the wrong year to go back!! Super, super stressed.

Nixi4 · 26/08/2020 12:33

@daisyhead08 I think a period of maintenance is a great plan, I'm sure that everyone on here has lost loads only to put it back on.. and more! Maintaining is more of a skill than loosing. Stress is really hard to deal with, as you need to find coping strategies that don't involve food. I'm sure that you will be fine once you are back in the swing of things. Smile

Rebuildingconfidence · 26/08/2020 13:08

Back on the 16/8 today.

My husband sent me some candid shots he had taken of me last week. I think I look ok - big but ok - when I am face on but there's one of me side profile and my tummy is really protruding. I do look pregnant.

I don't even know where to begin, it is just a big soft belly - is there any point in trying sit ups or anything?

Zebracat · 26/08/2020 17:49

@Rebuildingconfidence. There is a point. Maybe others won’t agree but I think bellies can be targeted better than anything else, sit ups, crunches, hula hoops, belly dancing, swimming. I also noticed a massive difference when I was doing regular yoga. It is my big problem area too. Our pools are still shut. I’m seriously considering a hula hoop from Wilko. I am bad at exercising at home, but maybe we could start small with 5 sit-ups a day, and work up? I measured my waist in July and it was 48, which is frankly, really upsetting, I know anything over 34 is considered dangerous. Maybe we should do some research?

peachgreen · 26/08/2020 17:55

Hello, joining in! Will pop back later with my measurements etc but I have a looooot to lose.

Rebuildingconfidence · 26/08/2020 18:36

@zebracat yes I would be up for that. Just measured mine and it is 114cm (44.8 inches) when I am standing nice and straight!

Zebracat · 26/08/2020 19:03

Brill shall we start with 5 sit-ups every morning and do some more research?
I’m steeling myself to measure again in the teeny hope it’s a little bit smaller. I think I will also buy a hula hoop. It’s kind of fun.
Hello @peachgreen.

Rebuildingconfidence · 26/08/2020 19:22

Yes, will start the sit ups in the morning Smile

Zebracat · 26/08/2020 20:22

Just measured and my waist is 42 inches. So redeemable!

Rebuildingconfidence · 27/08/2020 07:48

Quite proud of myself, just did a beginner's work out in youtube! 30 mins and I had to take two breaks but hopefully the start of improving my fitness. Did my five sit ups also @zebracat

Solina · 27/08/2020 08:23

Well done on doing the exercise @Rebuildingconfidence must have felt so good after!

Just wanted to say sit ups are terrible on the back and not really recommended. I would do a plank instead but also if you do any core exercises they will be much better and safer for you.

I used to have a PT I worked out with and the way my body shape changed was great and it was all from doing stuff like squats, lunges and weight training plus some core workouts like planks and dead bugs. Wish I never had stopped going as I put on so much weight since and now I do nothing at all. Need to start doing some exercise as well!

Zebracat · 27/08/2020 10:50

Well done @Rebuildingconfidence. I jus5 had a look an£ that looks brutal. I tried for 5 sit-ups too, but it was more like row your boat. And then I remembered that I have a lower back issue. So, arse backwardsly, I looked up sit ups on YouTube and then found 5 abs exercises for women over 50 from something called fitmother project. Sorry can’t seem to post a link, and yes @Solina, the first exercise is a plank. What I like is that the chappie tells you to perfect the exercise before going to the next one , so you confidently hold the plank position for 1 minute In total (Can take breaks)before moving on to the next thing, even if that takes a week or two. And, as a bonus at the end he shows you the cat cow Yoga move properly.
I really struggle with sequenced instructions, and I know that technique is everything so I am quite excited by this.

Winningatseesaw · 27/08/2020 22:58

Well done with all the sit ups and exercise. Maybe I should try doing smtg like that a few times a week.

Weigh in results- 97.2kg. Happy with that - down 1.2kgs from previous week.

15 stone 4 lbs now (total loss 2 stone 10/17.4kgs)

Zebracat · 27/08/2020 23:48

Winning at seesaw, lovely numbers.

Winningatseesaw · 28/08/2020 04:15

Thanks!

Does anyone follow any weight loss blogs or vlogs they can share for inspiration? I follow a couple of youtubers who have already lost their weight and they're maintaining.

I logged into my fitness pal the other day just to check the calories in something ( I just track my weight in a different app now). The last time I logged in was in 2013....and I was 81kgs. That's a bit depressing!

I'm trying to adjust my mindset that this is FOREVER. Hopefully I'll keep it off this time. This is probably the third (or maybe 4th) time I've done a serious weight loss attempt. I've read that the going up and down is very bad for you. So hopefully this time I'll keep it off.

Zoflorabore · 28/08/2020 04:19

Place marking for a more civilized hour Smile

Rebuildingconfidence · 28/08/2020 08:12

Very nice @winningatseesaw I aspire to be where you are!

Got up this morning and my muscles were sore from yesterday, but I tried this:

I couldn't manage all the exercises (scarily I can only hold a plank for about 3 seconds!) but at least I have made an effort for the second day running.

Fatandnearly50 · 28/08/2020 08:22

Good to see what you’re all doing exercise wise. I am just going for the odd walk but not a lot else currently. I used to go to the gym three times a week pre lockdown but am not comfortable going back yet.

I am lacking all motivation currently, I have a lot going on at the moment and am pretty stressed and am struggling to keep on top of the weight loss aims. There is far too much of, ‘I need the glass of wine’ going on. Thankfully not chocolate which used to be my downfall though.

I used to be able to do a plank for 30 seconds but think it’ll be about five seconds now!! And I must find a tape measure and do the waist. Even if it is scary it should show the difference over time. I know I have lost some weight as I wore a pair of trousers yesterday that I couldn’t wear before but no idea how much so seeing a number may help.

Hope you all have a good weekend Smile

Zebracat · 28/08/2020 18:13

I did the plank again today. Got to a minute with 5 rests in between. Currently exhausted after a cold wet day at the zoo.

@zebracat thanks for the link for the workout. I tried all the exercises- OMG sooo hard. I've never done a plank before and it was super hard. I probably held it for 2 seconds lols and I'm not even sure I was doing it correctly!

I'm going to try and do it everyday though as I think it's a good idea given how flabby I am!
