Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Don't let it knock you shattered. When I put weight on a binge to feel better, don't be me Smile

Ah damn, I had a hard day at work and was feeling angry so just binged on crisps and chocolate. I feel less angry but it wasn't my plan to eat so much already Hmm

Zebracat · 28/07/2020 14:54

I’m heavier today too, upped my fruit and liquid in the hope that will shift it!

Shatteredconfidence · 28/07/2020 16:26

Definitely determined to keep going - my leggings felt less tight around my waist today so I am not just relying on the scales (but not ignoring them either!)

notapizzaeater · 28/07/2020 22:50

Hope you're all doing ok.

Had a session yesterday with a PT - my legs and bum know about it !

Our family dog went across rainbow bridge Today, we're all in pieces - I've been good and not binged on food.

Shatteredconfidence · 29/07/2020 01:07

@notapizzaeater so sorry about your dog Sad

Namechanger0800 · 29/07/2020 06:51

@itistiime - can I recommend reading the obesity code? Your comments really resonate with me but I am slowly changing my thinking having read this book - I'm too early in the journey to say it's life changing as would need to keep going and then maintain it rather than yo-yo ing but understanding the science of how I got so obese and then how hard it was to lose weight really helped me and therefore helped me develop different habits.

There's no judgement in the book - it's clear we're not fat because we are greedy, lazy and lack willpower.....it's actually biology and genetics. There's also something in there about - I'm not obese because I eat too much- it's actually the case I eat too much because I am obese!

He then sets out some theories on both what to eat and when to eat - plus why he makes those recommendations. This is what I'm trying to incorporate into a long term plan.

MutteringDarkly · 29/07/2020 08:54

Just checking in again. So sorry to read about your loved dog, go very gently on yourself.

Day three of dragging myself back into this, and still at the stage where am spending most of the day reminding myself the first week is the worst (and if that's not true I don't want to think about it!) I am weighing every day because I am trying to remind myself of natural fluctuations, and because I had got into a headspace of never being able to face the scales - and look where that got me Grin I'll drop it down to weekly eventually I suspect, but keeping a note daily for now.

I didn't manage day 1 goal of the exercise bike (did go for a walk though) but I did get on the bike in day 2. Poor bike is probably in shock at having to do something other than sit quietly and gather dust!

Hope everybody has a good day.

itistiime · 29/07/2020 09:08

Thanks Namechanger- I've just downloaded a sample of it onto my kindle. I appreciate it.

Pizza - I'm really sorry to hear about your dog

Newpuppymummy · 29/07/2020 09:18

Can i join please? I have a lot to lose. 10 stove probably and have been overweight for years. A recent visit to the doctor revealed since the last time I was weighed there (2007) I have put on 7 stone!!! A whole person. All the talk of covid being worse for the obese has made me really think about what I’m doing to my body.
The past two days I’ve done 10000 steps and that’s my first change. My second change is starting today no snacks between meals at all.
I’ve done every diet you could think of and usually lose 2 stone then stop and put more back on. Not this time.

Shatteredconfidence · 29/07/2020 11:32

The Obesity Code is good. I read it a few years ago so it's part of a bigger picture for me. I definitely feel benefit from fasting / taking long breaks between meals.

I went on my bike yesterday, only 15/20 mins but I am pleased. I love cycling, it makes me feel young and carefree.

Fatandnearly50 · 29/07/2020 12:56

Welcome @Newpuppymummy! Well done on your good start, 10,000 steps is great (and something I rarely manage Blush)

I am tempted to read the Obesity Code but I am embarrassed to even have the book out as I avoid talking about it so much. Getting it on kindle on my phone is a great idea then I'd never have to hide it. Ridiculous really isn't it??

I would avoid daily weighing, it does no favours at all. That said I stood on the scales today and was 0.5kg heavier than yesterday (Monday is my WI day), I know it is a daily fluctuation but if I didn't I might be really upset about that. I think weekly is best.

A slightly embarrassing question about cycling though - I have a nice bike, new one bought a few years ago which I rarely go on mainly (can't remember the last time) because I end up with such sore bits that it stings to wee (i.e. it is my bits not my bum that gets sore although that does too). I have a wide gel saddle but can only presume my weight makes this worse (equal and opposite force etc) - can anyone recommend a good saddle or any tips to avoid this so that I want to go back on the bike please?

daisyhead08 · 29/07/2020 14:26

Welcome to @Newpuppymummy, there are a good few of us here now and the thread is very supportive.

@notapizzaeater I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Our dogs died last year, they were aged 16 and 18, we knew they were old and unwell but we were devastated. It is very upsetting, I hope you're all ok.

@Shatteredconfidence, my weight fluctuates too, it is so frustrating, especially when you've been down and then it's gone back up again. I find it hard to keep going when this happens and in the past I would have used it as a reason to eat everything!!

@Fatandnearly50, I'm no help with the cycling. Bicycles and I are not friends. I decided in my insanity to return to the gym last year and started with Spin HIIT. Never again. I texted my friend after the class at 6.30 in the morning to tell her that I think I had developed piles from the horror of it all.

Weigh in day for me, 4 lbs down, I'd say 1.5 of it is probably from last week, but I'm pleased to be back on track again. That's 36lbs in total gone now. I'm meeting a friend I haven't seen since before Christmas for dinner and drinks tonight, I hope I don't undo it all.

Fatandnearly50 · 29/07/2020 14:40

That’s brilliant @daisyhead08!

Your story about the spin class made me laugh! I joined a gym last year and did the spin set-up class where you spend an hour setting the machine to your personal settings. I never went back, it was brutal Grin

Zebracat · 29/07/2020 15:18

@notapizzaeater so sorry about your dog.
Cycling issues are making me laugh. So timely though. I have been thinking about getting the bike out.You have all reminded me that my vision of carefree cycling with flowers in the basket bears no comparison to the last attempt when I fell off through going too slowly because I don’t understand gears.
I spend a lot of money on clothes because they all look shit and nothing fits me. The new ones are never any better than the ones I have, it makes me hate myself. So I thought I would not buy any more until I have to, hopefully because everything is 3 sizes too big. I’m looking online for stuff for my dd who’s going into 6th form college. She’s tall and slim but clueless about clothes. How come now I’m seeing things I like? Didn’t even know H&M did plus size. So I am having a stern chat with myself about my reasons for losing weight, it really shouldn’t be about enjoying clothes again, it should be about health etc. Turns out I’m shallow. But if I don’t buy clothes for 6 months or a year, I can buy really nice ones. Sorry to ramble. My weight seems to be going up even though I am keeping inside my lines with diet, think I may be sitting on my arse too much.

Nixi4 · 29/07/2020 16:22

@Fatandnearly50 totally understand the saddle soreness you describe.. I researched this as it feels like someone has kicked you in the lady bits! There are two bones that you end up resting on.. normally I have one bike ride and then forget it for a few years due to discomfort. This time I've built up slowly.. a couple of miles at first and stop before I get sore. That way I don't hate it, and I can sit down without crying 🤣

@notapizzaeater sorry to hear your sad news

EightToSixer · 29/07/2020 16:28

May I join you?
I’m morbidly obese and I start keto tomorrow. I know I need to do something dramatic now to stay alive and I’m too scared about surgery so I’ve been reading and preparing to start keto. As I have such a significant amount of weight to lose. (More than 50%) I haven’t going a home on some of the online groups where people only have a few pounds to lose.

snappycamper · 29/07/2020 16:39

Thanks for the warm welcome all, I may read the obesity code too.

I'm going against the grain and weighing daily. I find it helps me to cope better with the fluctuations as I can see sooner that any gain was just a temporary thing. It used to depress me so much at slimming world when I had a week where I worked hard and stuck to plan yet gained weight or didn't lose as much as I thought I deserved. It would demotivate me for the entire next week. Now when I have a blip or my hormonal week I can see the correction much sooner and it cheers me up.

I joined this thread on Sunday so will post weekly updates then.

Fatandnearly50 · 29/07/2020 16:56

@Nixi4 so you’re saying I just need to toughen up the bits then? Damn, I was hoping for a magic saddle for fatties!

@Zebracat if clothes motivate you, go for it! We all know it’s about health mostly but any extra motivation is good!

Welcome @EightToSixer. We’re all in the same boat here, none of this “I have a whole 5lbs to lose so I must go to a slimming group”...

Good luck in your first week 😊

Nixi4 · 29/07/2020 17:30

@snappycamper if you are going to weigh daily, be super consistent .. you will see ups and downs over the month and don't get disheartened if you see an up! I used this method to determine best approach for me.. I'm pretty consistent.. 2 weeks a month -2lb 1 week -4lb 1 week +1.7lb.. I wish it was -2lb every week but what can you do!

So glad that we have so many new starters, this is definitely the place for those of us that have a significant number to get rid of.

Namechanger0800 · 29/07/2020 18:03

Wow so many new people joining us! Welcome everyone - so glad you are joining us and hope you all stick around.!

I think Covid has given many of us a kick up the bum. Not sure why the other risks like diabetes and heart disease didn't do it for me but something about Covid scared the shit out if me!!! Was a big reason I started in the first place.

I'm laughing at the cycling comments - still haven't got my bike out yet- it's covered in cobwebs in the garage. I'm thinking of getting a baby seat so baby can come for rides as well. Think she'll like that maybe now she's 9 months. But I did invest in a wider seat for the bike a while again with cushioning which seemed to help a lot!!!

@daisyhead08 that's a great result again for the week. Well done bet you are starting to see the difference now!

I've just calculated my loss to date in pounds and it surprised me- lost 44lbs- my baby weighs 22 lbs so that's 2 of her Shock taken her out for a walk in the sling today and just her is blooming heavy! Cheeky weigh in today midweek and I am 3lbs away from my next goal of 13 stone 7. This is the weight I got down to a few years ago when I dieted for a special holiday (and then put it all back on and a bit more for good measure Blush). Good thing though is I have some clothes I bought for that holiday and given the nice weather I've been able to wear them again and they fit!

I'm really not trying to brag but please keep going everyone, now I'm seeing results I'm more motivated to keep going. At the beginning every pound was laboriously slow and it felt it wasn't making a difference because I was 16/17 stone and I know it's so tempting to say Fuck it.

snappycamper · 29/07/2020 18:06

@Nixi4 thanks - I have been weighing daily for a couple of months already and have a nice trend line, with a lot of ups and downs. I know it doesn't work for everyone but it does for me.

It's also massively motivating for anyone following a really low calorie diet or losing fast as you can see daily progress. I'm going fairly slowly but would like to pick the pace up. Only lost 4 lbs in 2 months Blush

I need to lose 9st+! Help!
Nixi4 · 29/07/2020 18:18

@Namechanger0800 you should totally be bragging right now!!! Amazing achievement, and inspirational for all of us, both the ones that have been at it for a while.. and especially for those that are just starting! Big high fives from me, and hugs as I bet you are looking fabulous x

Newpuppymummy · 29/07/2020 19:07

I’m on day 3 of 10000 steps. Only done 6000 today so off out with the dog. I have to say it’s been hard to motivate myself off the sofa again tonight but I’m doing it. One step at a time

EightToSixer · 30/07/2020 13:23

Are any of you using StepBet to help you get your steps in? I joined from an instagram slimmer I follow. It tells you how many steps to walk based on your current activity and adding a little more. You pay $40 and log your steps each day for 6 weeks. If you complete it you get your initial money plus a share of the money of those who didn’t complete it. I’ve done 2 now and just started my third one. As I was initially pretty immobile I had to walk 7400 steps 4 days a week and 9600 2 days a week, with 1 rest day a week. I get about 10% extra on my bet each game so it’s not going to make me big bucks but it is really good at keeping me accountable. I now go for a walk ever day and also move more in the house to get my steps up and I genuinely feel it’s made a difference to my mental health and also toned my legs a little (my ankles don’t get so puffy now so it’s obviously helped my circulation too).

Shatteredconfidence · 31/07/2020 07:21

I am travelling right now (taking lots of precautions) and I was just pulled aside at the gate and asked if I was expecting!!!

This is the only place I can say this as I am soooooooooo embarrassed!!! I know my tummy's big and I do look pregnant, but jist awful to have it confirmed like that!!!

More motivation to keep going ...
