Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

Weather is rubbish here, one minute it is sunny the next cloudy and rainy! I have washing to dry i wish it would make its mind up 😂

Daisy thats really good well done! Just goes to show one bad day doesnt ruin everything just like one good day does undone bad days.

I dont feel very well (not covid) sore chest and back, lightheaded, weak muscled, sick, dizzy and zero energy.
And i had a horrible horrible dream last night about being sick, it was all the gunk i have been putting into my body, i feel a bit disturbed to be honest.
Im thinking that all the unhealthy eating of the last few months (even including the few weeks i was good) is catching up on me and my body has had enough.
I think i need lots and lots of vegetables! I have added them, more fruit and salad bits to my tesco shop for Saturday.

Nix upgraded your walking dog 😂
Its not pathetic you are doing really well and slowly getting better!

Nixi4 · 02/07/2020 19:29

The weather is driving me nuts.. it's tipping it down, then sunny, and it's really humid when I go out. I haven't got my steps in, as I haven't bought a rain jacket that I can wear. I got one the other week but it feels horrible when wearing a t-shirt, I don't want to spend money on a decent jacket that will hopefully be too big soon! Arrrrgh!!!

It was awful here yesterday Nixi I ended up having to bring the dogs home after 20 minutes of walking because it was too wet for them. I went back out and ended up saturated. I'm having the exact same rain jacket dilemma! I really don't want to waste money on an interim coat.

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 04/07/2020 09:22

Im the same i hate the feeling of the material on my arms! Always have.

I was like that with all my clothes and then eventually had to buy some as nothing fit because i went the other way and gained! What you could so is buy a coat and then sell it once you have lost the weight? As you wont wear it as much? So will still be in a good condition?
Im an ebay seller so everything is sellable to me 😂

Happy Saturday everyone! Im taking my ds to the park today i think im more excited than him! He had missed it but been so good understanding he cant go in when we walk past (hes 3 the end of this month so still my baby for a bit!)

Nixi4 · 04/07/2020 23:07

@HoldingForGeneralHugs I hadn't thought of selling.. I will have a look. So hard to find a light weight jacket that doesn't feel like shower curtains rubbing on your skin Envy.
Managed a 4 mile dog walk, and a 5 mile bike ride today.. alongside normal weekend stuff, so quite pleased

Namechanger0800 · 05/07/2020 07:26

Morning all - I have a nice raincoat from
Merrell - it's knee length and black with big hood. Quite lightweight but wind proof and has a very light fleecy lining so you don't get that clammy feeling in your arms if you wear with a T-shirt. Plus it's smart ish so used to wear it to work when it was tipping down and I had to walk through town.

It's been too small for ages though! Will have to try it on and see if it fits again!

I haven't been on my bike for ages - might see if I can get a bike seat for baby as that would be a nice trip out with DH and something different to do. Prefer a seat rather than one of those cages you pull - might do a google as not sure if she's too small at the moment

3lbs lost this week (only just) but I'll take that gladly! BMI is 30.6 now ....am so close to being officially 'overweight' rather than obese which is my second weight loss goal. Am hoping will hit that in 2-3 weeks unless I have another annoying 2 week plateau

oohnicevase · 05/07/2020 07:32

I'd get a Gp referral to slimming world , it's the waters way to lose weight and it does work . You won't feel hungry or deprived . Follow a few members on insta it fb and you will see some have massive plates of food and still lose weight .

Nixi4 · 06/07/2020 11:03

3.7lbs for me this week.. I'm still stones away from being overweight! Really pleased 😀 I'm now 7.5lb away from my next stone I'm hoping to that done by the end of July.

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 07/07/2020 09:06

Well done Nix that is great 😊 Remind me how much is that in total?

I was too scared to weigh myself today and decided to put it off for another week! But look at this dinner i made last night its so pretty!

I have started following the Pinch of Nom facebook group and found the stories on there inspiring and they have some good tips.

I need to lose 9st+! Help!
Nixi4 · 07/07/2020 11:18

@HoldingForGeneralHugs that does look yummy! I think I'm at 29lbs.. I've tried to focus on one week at a time, otherwise I start getting really impatient! So goal each week is 2lbs.. anything more is a bonus. I still have another 56lb to go, which will take me till January.. obviously it will take longer as my losses will get smaller, and I will have some breaks from being saintly!

JeffVaderneedsatray · 08/07/2020 07:37

Good morning,
I wonder if I might join you?
I'm 5 foot 2 and currently weight about 16 stone 10lbs.
So I need to lose about 7 stone.
I've struggled with my weight most of my life (and I wish I could go back to my self at 19 and tell her that the 9 stone I was then was FINE and NOT .to start dieting as each diet led to more weight gain until here we are at 52 and slowly expanding the harder I try to shrink!)
I have two children - DS is 15 and DD is 12 - both with ASCs which made their early years somewhat tricky! I comfort eat and stress eat.
Life is a bit more settled now but I need to shift the extra to have a healthy next period of my life.
Having accepted that 'diets' cause me to generally gain back more than I lose I'm looking to totally change my life - this isn't a quick fix thing but a change of approach.
I am a total sugar addict - I can avoid it for weeks but if I have a tiny amount then I just eat and eat all the sugar I can find.
I also struggle with wheat - leaves me horribly bloated.
I've just ordered The Obesity Code and a pedometer - I can't wear a fitbit as I love my watch too much (and I'm not wearing a watch at the moment as I work as aTA in primary school and there is a LOT of habdwashing going one so I'm terrrified I'll lose it)
I also don't want to do anything too obvious as both my children have disordered eating and we are finally getting them to broaden their diets. So no slim fast or whatever for me!
This week's plan:
Get my steps up to 10k
Finish up the diet coke so I can ditch it for fizzy water
Drop bread
Cut portion sizes - we've just bought new plates and the pattern has an inner ring so I'm aiming to keep my serving in the inner ring. I may even serve my food on one of the side plates.
You are all doing really well.

daisyhead08 · 08/07/2020 11:25

Morning everyone, how are you all doing?

Welcome JeffVaderneedsatray this a brilliant place to be and a great support. I too have been battling with my weight for all of my adult life and I've tried all the diets. None have worked, until now. I admire you giving up diet coke. I don't think I could yet!

That dinner looks fantastic Holding and so healthy.

Nixi 3.7 is another super loss, well done. I'm aiming for 2 lbs a week for the next 8 weeks. I really hope it's achievable.

Namechanger you're so close to being out of the obese category, that's just wonderful, I'm miles away from there yet.

I was down another 3 this week and my ten week online programme is finished. There's another one starting at the end of September and I've signed up for it but I'm on my own until then. I am determined to keep going but I am nervous about not having the support.

Hello everyone. I’ve just found this thread and spent the last week reading through it bit by bit. You have all done so well and stayed on track for months, I’m really impressed.

Can I please join? I am 5’5” and weighed in at my heaviest ever of 118.5kg (18st 9lbs) on Monday 29th June. BMI just over 43 😳😳

As with many of you this is an adulthood of issues, I have lost 2/3 stone many many times and 4.5 stone once but obviously it has all come back with extras. I am 50 in a couple of years and really need to be in a different situation for my health. I don’t intend to get to my ‘ideal’ BMI as I know that is not sustainable for me but am aiming long term to be about 13-14 stone.

I will be doing a general mindful eating so trying to only eat when hungry, drink lots of water, control portion sizes and think about the foods I eat. I have quite bad IBS which can only be managed with a low fibre diet so many traditional high fibre diet foods are out for me.

So, I started on 29th June and weighed in again a week later on 6 July. I knew I had been careful and was hoping for a decent loss With it being the first week but was pleasantly stunned when the scales showed as 113.5kg so a 5kg or 11lb loss ShockShock. I did have my period the first week but still never seen a loss like that even first week Shock, it’s a great motivator to carry on though!

Thanks all for your posts so far, I hope I can become a valuable member of the thread.

Wk 0 - 118.5kg (18st 9lbs)
Wk 1 - 113.5kg (17st 12lbs)

Nixi4 · 10/07/2020 13:37

@Fatandnearly50 congrats on your awesome start!!! Welcome to the gang! This thread is such an important part of my success, I hope you enjoy being here as much as me! X

Fatandnearly50 · 10/07/2020 14:03

Thank you Nixi4 Smile

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 11/07/2020 09:00

Nix you have done so well so far! How you written it down/ got a tracker estimating where youll be when? (If that makes sense?)
I like that thought process, 2lbs is just right to aim
for, i think i might use it 😊

Hi and welcome JeffVaderneedsatray and Fatandnearly50- you have made a great start so far!!

Daisy well done on your loss this week! what was online programme you were doing?

Nixi4 · 11/07/2020 11:08

@HoldingForGeneralHugs I had it all in excel! I recorded my macros everyday.. carbs, fat, protein, weight etc! It was quite comprehensive, and then I chilled out as was getting obsessed. Now I just target the 2lb, so 56/2=28.. 28 weeks from now (use google) = January! I'm quite scientific so I sort of turn it into an experiment to keep me interested... ok now everyone knows I'm a geek 😁

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 12/07/2020 10:21

Haha dont worry Nix im a history geek so your not alone 😂
That does sound interesting but hard work, im not good with number so working all that out really confuses me. 2lbs a week is nice and easy to track 😂

I weighed myself this morning 17st 12lbs 🙁 but at least i know now so i cant fool/hide from myself anymore. I have decided i am going to follow slimming world rules and when money gets better join up again.

daisyhead08 · 12/07/2020 13:00

Welcome Fatandnearly50 that's a brilliant start, well done. I have found this thread invaluable over the past few weeks, I hope you do too.

Holding I did a programme called Bodyslims, it was online but would usually also run IRL here in Dublin. The theory behind it is that you need to hit weightloss hard and that weightloss is different to maintenance. It is only for ten weeks as he believes you need to know it's not forever in order to give 100%. It is by far the best thing I have ever done. I failed at WW, SW, Unislim (The Irish version of SW), Motivation weightloss, innumerable diet programmes and personal trainers. The programme also tackles the psychology behind overeating and weightloss and I think this is what made the difference for me. I genuinely believe now that I will lose this weight and all of it. I started in May with between 100 and 120 lbs to lose. It will take some time, but I will do it. Previously, I would have decided that once I lost a stone or two I was ok again and sort of lose interest. It is the easiest thing I have ever done and I'm still sort of in shock at how well it has worked and almost afraid to talk about it. I was in a very bad place in relation to my weight and the fact that I now feel that real change is possible is amazing to me. I'm terrified of jinxing it, if that makes sense!

Nixi part of the programme I was doing was recording everything you ate and your exercise. It presented everything in lovely graphs and percentages. I loved it!! I miss it already. I find it really gratifying thinking of losses in terms of numbers and percentages, % of overall bodyweight, % of target loss, % of BMI, I could go on, but I get really quite excited by it Blush

My lovely uncle died on Wednesday night and his funeral was yesterday. I ate nothing all day and then came home starving and found it really difficult not to hit the carbs. I hope I stayed within limits but ti was very hard.

Nixi4 · 13/07/2020 08:11

So I've managed to gain 1.7lb.. no change to diet, slightly less exercise due to rain last week.. started to melt down, then checked 8th June as the same week for me (ovulation) and I put on 1.7lb!!! So I'm hoping it's a pattern and I will loose 4lb next week.. like last time.

Nixi4 · 13/07/2020 08:14

@daisyhead08 if you use my fitness pal, it gives you some nice charts and %.
Sorry for your loss, I hope you and your family find some peace in your time of grief.

Fatandnearly50 · 13/07/2020 13:49

Fingers crossed it's the time of the month @Nixi4, that would explain it.

Thanks for the welcome everyone Smile

After last week's amazing loss I only lost 1lb this week which is slightly disappointing but I am treating it as a loss and that over 2 weeks I have lost 11lbs which is still a great start. I know I cheated slightly but it should be straightforward to pull back again.

Onwards and upwards (or not hopefully!!) Have a great week everyone Smile

Wk 1 - 113.5kg (17st 12lbs)

Nixi4 · 13/07/2020 19:00

@Fatandnearly50 well done, another lb down.. another lb in the right direction. You had an amazing start so I can understand why you feel a little disappointed but don't be disheartened.

Fatandnearly50 · 13/07/2020 19:06

Thanks Nixi. You're right, we always need to see this as a very long journey sadly, a marathon not a sprint. We'll all get there eventually as long as we keep going.
