Any suggestions as to best format to achieve this?

I'm limited as to amount of exercise I can do, so it looks like dietary approach to begin with, then hope to add in some exercise when I can.

Just wondering if anyone has got advice and/or done similar themselves and can share.

All input gratefully received.Flowers

I've given up beer too, but persuaded myself that last night's was a delayed Sunday allowance. Blush

Ive not given up wine or gin, but cutting down gradually at this stage. So, all relatively good so far, though not perfect.

Quick weigh in this morning. Im a lb off my first mini goal. Probably would have been there, had I not flung my toys out the pram last night.

Oh, and 2litres of water per day.

DH always brings me in stuff I can't have - chocolate, doughnuts and fruit pastilles was his offering yesterday!

@handsoffisback its not so much the weight aspect, as I keep quiet on that, its the Lent aspect.

As soon as he knows what Im giving up, suddenly it's being offered!

Theories welcome!!

Generally, he's fine!
But Lent and diets do bring out the saboteur in him, hence I no longer mention 'diet' but I do remind him when Lent starts and what Im giving up.

I do domiciliary care, so it's quite physical. But I get to sit down, driving between visits. However, I have managed to gain a stone since I started this job, a year ago. I've identified the problem - not stopping to eat until 2 or 3pm, drinking 3+ crappy high calorie Tassimo lattes then eating a pile of toast/pizza/pack up treats etc.

After 10 days with zero sugar from chocolate/biscuits/pastries, I'm not bothered. DS had a bar of chocolate last night and I wasn't interested. IME it really doesn't take long to 'go off' chocolate. I've done it a few times, before. Bread is a little harder - I've had 2 wraps and 2 chapattis in 10 days. DS usually has breakfast at school, but I did him toast this morning and the whole flat smelled of toast. Luckily, I don't even want to eat that early, so wasn't tempted like I likely would have been, later in the day.

I'm finding MFP really useful for logging, and for learning about portion sizes, food and nutrition.
I still need to relax about food waste, I think. I need to consciously remind myself that I'm no longer cooking for a hungry labouring man or a hollow legged teen. Just me and one smallish child.

I've looked in a mirror, but can't see any difference. I didn't measure myself when I started this, because I weighed myself on the pharmacy scales that do BMI and body fat. Which then went out of action and have remained so, since. So, I have no way of knowing whether what I'm doing is working! Aaaargh!

“I need a quick fix”

Said every person who has gone on to unsuccessfully diet.

ppeatfruit · 03/03/2020 12:09

I find that to call it a 'diet' brings out the judgypant types so I call it a "Way of Eating" Grin .

The problem with Lent is for dh it should continue all\most of the time (he's about 5 or 6 stone OW and unhealthy , not terribly but he knows he should be careful ) But he literally books the Easter Sunday meal before he's started Lent !!!! He's his own saboteur !!! I make nice salads and veggies, and I have to remind him to eat them. like he's 3 yrs old !!!

ppeatfruit · 03/03/2020 12:18

Mock I used to carry some nice nourishing snacks in the car (or train etc.) like, macadamias, walnuts, raisins etc. an apple and pear with water of course (I still do it when I go out ) plus a sandwich for lunchtime so I don't eat unless I'm hungry.

Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 12:21

I use the word 'diet' out of habit when typing, but I know it's a change of mindset and examining behaviour etc.

I don't mention 'dieting' to DH as that's just asking for trouble!!

So, I'm currently being very stealthy (as much as my lardy ass can be!) about my eating plans, so as not to give the game away. 😉

But of course he knows I'm embarrassed about my weight and worried about hospital gowns. 🙄

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 03/03/2020 12:47

I don't want to put you off the new way of eating , it'll do you good ! But Any of those gowns I've worn have been HUGE , you really don't need to be concerned about them. Not being a medic I'm not sure if they are all one size fits all. But I think they may be.

Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 14:05

Mahoosive tent size?? That'll help!

I think you have to exercise too, even if its running up and down the stairs at home, using a tin of beans as weights etc.To lose 3 stone in 3 months is no easy feat but with diet and exercise youd probably be able to but you'd need to be very strict. Good luck

Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 16:41

Thanks @Mum197726, I know I need to step up to the plate. Or away from the plate, rather!

I'm hopefully going to be back to doing some exercise of sorts this weekend. Have to take gentle to start with.

I am kicking myself for letting myself get this big. It's as if I just didn't notice or didn't care. Probably a mixture of both, tbh.

Tonight is spaghetti bolognese, cooked by DH. Plan is to eat the bolognese and have a teeny amount of spaghetti to show willing. And mess it up a bit so he can't tell exactly how much I've had! Wink

Serious question - do people use the toilet before they weigh themselves?

The pharmacy scales are finally working. I'm a bit underwhelmed.
5lb at my first weigh in, after 12 days. So, nearly, but not quite on track for 3st in 3 months.
I have, however, lost another half an inch in height, so I don't actually trust the poxy scales, anyway.

Does anyone have decent at-home scales they would recommend?

@MockneyReject
Advice is after loo, in morning, whilst naked.

Not recommended for public scales! 😁

OP posts:
Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 19:36

I think your weight loss sounds great! Better off than on!
But do wear same clothes, weigh at roughly same time...

I'll check my scales.Tanita brand, I think.

OP posts:
Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 19:40

@Handsoffisback, Im being stealthy!! Blush

And its worked fine! Ate most of bolognese, stirred it up a bit, then professed to be 'full'.....

He's happy, Im happy....all good! 😁

OP posts:
Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 19:45

P.S. Oh yes, he gets bothered if he cooks and I don't eat most of it!
So, some subterfuge necessary!!

OP posts:
Ineedaplan · 03/03/2020 19:53

I used to be totally honest, but it made meals a war zone at times. 😳
