Need to lose 3stone in 3 months.

Any suggestions as to best format to achieve this?

I'm limited as to amount of exercise I can do, so it looks like dietary approach to begin with, then hope to add in some exercise when I can.

Just wondering if anyone has got advice and/or done similar themselves and can share.

All input gratefully received.Flowers

Keto for me is the easiest as your appetite goes and so does your cravings, so easier to stay on it.

I also agree I can't do slow and steady either, it just frustrates me, I want to see results when I'm doing it.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 19/02/2020 08:01

Intermittent fasting all the way. I do the 16 / 8 and it’s fab.

Good luck with the weight loss and the operation!

PsychoWiener · 19/02/2020 08:06

You can lose 3st in 3 months doing slimming world. Especially if you cut carbs and have no chocolate, alcohol, cakes etc.

Sweetener12 · 19/02/2020 08:27

I think healthy eating is much more important than working out. Try to eat more proteins and avoid all the fried stuff and simple carbs. Eat more vegetables and fruits, drink enough water (my amount is 1.4 liters per day, which is enough). When you feel like doing some sports, don't overload yourself, make a schedule. I used a special service photo-calendar-software.com for that and made a calendar with highlighted days for the gym. I work out 3 times a week but I think 2 times will be more than enough. But in general healthy diet does it all.

ppeatfruit · 19/02/2020 11:31

Giving up the caffiene and alcohol IS a healthy quick fix which will work fast (you'll have a headache for a couple of days so best done when you can rest). It's worth it though. Also the Food Combining plan is a great one. It's not fashionable but I know it works, I do it to maintain and it works almost immediately for dh when he bothers !!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
Certainly food for thought - no pun intended! Wink

Im going to make my mind up as to which approach seems a good fit for me at the weekend.

It's quite a stressful time and I have lots of sitting on my arse doing extra paperwork for next few weeks. Sad

I usually reward myself with Wine after the day's work been completed, but I can see that will have to stop. Ouch....that's going to hurt!

You can do 3 or 4 shakes on exante. I do 3 and a 200 cal meal

hopeishere · 19/02/2020 21:13

Marking for ideas!

BinkySodPlop · 19/02/2020 21:23

The Exante (and all other non-supervised) meal replacement diet changed to 800 cals a day min (4 rather than 3 packets) due to updated guidelines by the government. The oft-quoted 1 stone a month losses were based on 600 cals a day, so not sure how much slower the losses would be on 800 - probably not that significant. It's a good way to kick-start losses, but like any other plan, you'll out it all back on if you don't change your lifestyle. And yes - the first week "big loss" is mostly water, so will go back on.

Really123456 · 19/02/2020 21:44

Don't do anything drastic, you might die on the operating table! Don't put your body under so much stress. They've seen it all before, worse and more.

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2020 08:59

I don't want to pry about your health problem but I do know that a very ill actor John Mills 's life was saved by the Food Combining plan , he was in his late 20s and lived to be 96 or so !!!!!

My IBS was cured by it too.

Worth starting with Paul McKenna. He makes you consider why you are overeating: snacks in front of the telly; eating too fast so you don’t feel full; feeling guilty about not clearing your plate, etc. The behavioural stuff.

Then once you have tackled behaviours it is easier to eat less, using whatever diet/exercise plan you choose, and then keep it off. Intermittent fasting is good.

Ineedaplan · 20/02/2020 15:26

I remember hearing good things about food combining years ago and I may be wrong, but I think The Harcombe Diet is based on similar principles?

I do intend to be careful and my health is main priority, though I desperately want to shed weight.
To give context, I used to be approx 8stone, give or take a few lbs in either direction. I'm now 11st. Far too heavy for my 5ft 2 height.Blush

I need some kick ass initial momentum to help get my mindset into a positive focused approach. Intermittent fasting is something I could do. I think. Im not a morning eater, so that helps, but I snack at night when working/stressed, but I'd need to be dealing with that danger zone no matter what.

Paul McKenna sounds a good call to assist with the 'mindfulness' aspect of it all. I have lost that aspect over the last few years.

Ive posted on @SlimlineDream's thread about having mini goals as suggested on there. I have 15!! Dear Lord!!

Getting a notebook ready and still musing over my approach.
Wish I'd given this much thought when I was overeating! 😣

You have my exact measurements and I DID lose the 3 stone ! Not in 3 months but using Paul Mackenna and Food Combining, I could have if I'd given up caffiene and alcohol (I never was a big drinker, now it's a glass of wine on birthdays\xmas etc) I would add no high sugar fizzy drinks too.

It does get harder as we get older too. Zoe H. is strange in that she doesn't reckon fruit , whereas I've always eaten it BUT only on an empty stomach! I've recently cut right back on sugar and I couldn't have done it without fruit.

ppeatfruit · 21/02/2020 13:19

You aren't very overweight IMO and E. I would just get on with it don't overthink it Grin.

Bluntness100 · 21/02/2020 14:48

I agree wirh the pp, over thinking it is a way of delaying it. You can change diet plans if they don’t work, but you’re best to get on with it.

People who plan it, then shop for it, then start a week on Monday never, tend not to want to do it deep down and just fall off the wagon.

If you really want to do it, do it. Stop finding ways to procrastinate so you don’t have to.

Ineedaplan · 21/02/2020 15:32

Ta for the pep talks @ppeatfruit and @bluntness100. I needed to hear that. Though I feel bluddy huge, ppeatfruit.

I officially start tomorrow for my new notebook purposes, but am cutting down from today and will see what approach speaks to me tomorrow.
Im veering towards food combining/low carb and using intermittent fasting to give my system a break.

It's time to 'just do it' as they say. Smile

Mini goals noted as per @FATEdestiny's advice.

How does giving up caffeine help?

FATEdestiny · 21/02/2020 19:57

Just crack on and do it OP.

One stone a month? Easy peasy. You defo could do it. I did 1 stone per month for 5 months straight. Then the final 3 stone in 4 months. 8 stone loss in 9 month.

Nothing fancy. No commercial diet. Normal food.. I basically did low carb and low fat and low sugar.

  • no breakfast, I simply don't need it, I'm never hungry
  • make sure at least 3/4 of my two meals a day are non starchy vegetables (with a preference towards above ground veg)
  • the other 1/4 is low fat, lean protein. Chicken breast, white fish, bean/pulses
  • No puddings (except of Sunday Dinner), just the main meal. So I make it a big portion.
  • No snacking between meals, ever.

So following these, I eat around 7-10 veg portions per day. I don't have fruit or anything sweet. No processed carbs at all. Very rarely any carbs.

This was all while running every day, often big distances.

Just crack on OP.

Need to lose 3stone in 3 months.
Ineedaplan · 21/02/2020 20:27

@FATEdestiny
Wowsers!!
Thank you for sharing that awesome history and details! Flowers

I'm stunned.

I'm going to take another suggestion from you, and give myself an exercise goal per month.
Can't be anywhere likes you, at present, but I can lift my spirits to aim for something definite, rather than leaving things vague.

Thank you so much so for sharing!
