Welcome founding & new members alike. Jump on board the WoW wagon if you want to be slimmer, healthier, happier and more energetic! You've certainly come to the right place! These threads have been going for sometime now and seem well received. The ladies who post are supportive and inspiring in equal measure. There is no shaming, competition or harsh words.

As no one size fits all members generally follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless we will offer guidance and support if required.

Me personally? I keep on it by calorie counting, logging via MFP app, Intermittent fasting, eating a low carb Mediterranean style diet and staying well hydrated. I can’t emphasise enough the importance of drinking plenty of water. There are so many enjoyable options without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

Interested? Add your name, personal goals, eating/exercise plan etc.

Wednesdays will be WoW (weigh on Wednesday)

@BustedDreams ah! No, this year. I’m a teacher so decided the day we started back after the Xmas hols would be the day I started to make changes. I’m over the moon at the loss so far but am under no illusion it will continue to come off so quickly. I’m in this for the long haul and hope this thread will help to keep me accountable and on track! Thank you again for your warm welcome and encouragement!

SunshineCake · 02/02/2020 13:57

I am so tired. Up four times last night, three because of the dog. Just had lunch. Roast chicken, roast potatoes, parsnips, garlic cabbage, sweet corn, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots and a few wedges. Bit random but cold, tired, hungry. Also had a small portion of ham roll poly and custard to help with the exhaustion. I will do a long ride on the exercise bike in about an hour to make up for it. Waiting as I don't think I can exercise too soon after eating.

Weighed both days but only let dh look. He's only going to tell me if I'm the same or have lost as a way of making sure I don't put on loads within the week without realising. Just realised I need to tell him that is the plan!

Have a good afternoon everyone.

BustedDreams · 02/02/2020 15:54

@SunshineCake how are you water levels. Are you hydrated enough? Could it be thyroid related?

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 02/02/2020 16:10

Generally my water intake is pretty good I think, @BustedDreams I have the odd day where I possibly don't drink enough but usually I'm okay. Tbh tmi but I go by the colour of my wee a lot. I am shattered today as I was woken four times in the night and we were properly awake for a while. Taking it easy this afternoon after 35 minutes on the bike and I'll go on it again later then a bit of an early night.

I have had my thyroid tested and told it was normal. My grandma had thyroid trouble and was very large.

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/02/2020 16:54

Hi all

I'm getting my bloods redone at some point over the next week as I'm sure my levels are out of whack - or the iron or both.

I've gone back to basics today. Water (and a glass of juice with lunch) only, jacket for lunch, risotto for tea. Had a chunk of apple and 2 bits of hazelnut Lindt for a snack. Cafe had run out of bacon an hour into service though so it was cheese only on my spud Hmm

Plan for this week: stay away from Coke - don't even buy it, stay away from bread, wraps, pasta, pizza etc.

Good luck to you all and hope you get a quiet night @sunshinecake

Creativebee · 02/02/2020 18:13

Hi all, checking in after a lousy attempt in January. I was wondering if anyone could help me, I’ve started using MyFitnessPal to track calories and over the last 7 days I’ve tracked everything I’ve eaten. MFP gave me a goal of 1360 calories a day and I’m doing this with IF (18:6). The thing is I haven’t lost a single gram and I’m sticking to the calories and weighing everything. I did write on the January thread that I’m due my period this week and I’m not drinking enough water but to not have lost a single ounce is making me question if I’m doing this wrong. I was hoping to buy the premium subscription to MFP but I’m not sure if I’m using it right. For example I’m having a jacket potato, cheese, beans and a salad tonight but there are so many options for a jacket potato all with varying calorie consumptions, how do you know which one to choose if 3-4 are of the same weight? Feeling so deflated and feel like I’m fasting for no reason. Please help before I end up giving up for the millionth time in 20 years

SunshineCake · 02/02/2020 18:28

Good luck with your plan for the week @MrsJonesAndMe. I think having a weekly plan as well as long time plans is a good idea. Any suggestions for me? I hope for a quieter night too 💤 😴.

@Creativebee,. Hello Smile. I really feel for you. If you read my previous posts on earlier threads I was just one big tantrum as I felt I did well and lost nothing and/or couldn't maintain never mind lose. I had to get my head in the right place and pick something that worked for me.

I couldn't carry on using MFP and calorie counting as I didn't find MFP user friendly at all and I cook so much from scratch with lots of ingredients that weighing everything was doing my head in. Especially as a lot weren't even logged in already which took twice as long.

I am doing intermittent fasting. I feed my dog at 12.30 then start eating around 12.45 and then stop 8.30pm. Sometimes I stop earlier, sometimes I sneak in something just after. Previously I'd be eating at nine whereas these days I'm willing 8.30 to come so I can stop eating. I'm also using the exercise bike twice a day. Today I had two biscuits then cycled until the calorie count was just over what they were. I'm not doing it for everything as I can feel I am becoming a bit obsessed but I am happy.

Keep at it. It will happen.

Creativebee · 02/02/2020 18:40

Thank you SunshineCake I’m really hoping that will come and soon, I’m also cooking a lot from scratch but i found it somewhat of a comfort to try and weigh ingredients and add them to MFP, I felt like I was making sure everything was accounted for. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to exercise at all this last few weeks as DH work schedule has been a nightmare and we don’t really have anyone to look after our DD and I’ve never been one to exercise at home (which is something I should really think about now). Here’s hoping for a big loss in February, according to MFP I should reach my goal by September, I’m not placing any bets Sad

Hi I’m 50 and I’ve lost 86lbs — 60lbs was in the last 17 months WW and calorie counting
I am 160lbs and 5ft 2 and a size uk 12
I’m finding it’s so slow I’ve about 30 lbs left to lose but years yoyo dieting has no seen me unable to eat much to lose weight
I exercise a lot too so I’m finding this very slow 😩

Tried everything and I mean everything

-72 inches in 17 months so I suppose the scale isn’t showing everything

Anyone want a buddie ?
I’m 50 female live in the Uk Hampshire am a mum of 3 and nan of 3 and a stepmom

BellyRolls · 02/02/2020 18:45

Hi, do you mind if I join in? I'm at my heaviest and am fed up of failing on my own and think I need a thread to keep me on my toes!

LouHotel · 02/02/2020 19:45

Get on those toes!

Had a Car very and went mega on the veg and just turkey however I’m now dealing with extreme bloat so it needs to shift.

Anyone done a 14 day tea tox? Avoiding the senna leaf one but apparently it’s good for the gut.

SheepSocks · 02/02/2020 19:50

Alongside some of you, I have given up on my fitness pal. It was too random to be accurately adding up my calories. I'm now concentrating eating healthy, going to the gym and getting my steps in.

I feel more motivated this month as it's a bit lighter in the evenings so doesn't feel like a long hard slog.

I've also realised that I can't live without chocolate, I bought a stash of small chocolates and given them to my husband. He is now giving me one chocolate ration a day.

I'm going to the gym tomorrow and will get weighed there. I'll let you know how I get on!

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/02/2020 20:13

@Creativebee I do IF without an calorie counting. I lost 13kg/2 stone from start of August to Christmas.
To lose, I do the following:

  • lots of water
  • 8 hour eating window, sometimes less and sometimes more
  • avoid gluten and cola
  • half an hour of yoga every day (Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube)

A typical day looks like this:
9:30 hot choc and flap jack, GF brownie/kind bar
12:30 jacket with ham, cheese, mayo or soup with chicken/rice in it to be filling enough
3:30 handful of nuts and or orange/fruit
5pm tea: chilli and rice, chicken curry and rice, stir fry with rice noodles, salmon with fries/rice, roast dinner etc
5:30 close eating window

Won't work for everyone of course, I just think it's useful to see what others do.

@SunshineCake I think you are doing brilliantly and should keep going

@meme70 worth looking at Jason Fung on YouTube who will explain why you will need to eat fewer and fewer calories and still not lose. He does say IF is the way forward and touches on things to avoid and to help. Might help you do the last bit?

cheeseomelette · 02/02/2020 20:30

Hello everyone, I'm 6lbs down at 12st 8 after getting a shock 3.5 weeks ago when I finally weighed myself. I've bought a cross trainer and an Apple Watch and am sticking to 1350 cals. I've pretty much cut out sugar and happily, am not missing it.

I'm working out 5-6 times a week and already feel less flabby - it had all gone on around my boobs and middle and just felt awful.

Goal weight 150 lbs by summer. I'll be fine then at 5ft 7. I'd like to do IF but like my poached eggs before work which would mean a v early dinner, which isn't always doable. I could probably manage 10:14 but not sure that would work..

BellyRolls · 02/02/2020 21:01

I'm going to weigh in the morning.. I already know it's not going to be pretty.

Planning on calories between 1100/1200 and IF once I've googled it to see if it has to been same hours each day (dh moans if I don't eat dinner with him on the days I'm not working)

I'm all or nothing when it comes to chocolate and junk food so will have to avoid for a while til I can lose a bit first!

SunshineCake · 02/02/2020 21:42

Thank you @MrsJonesAndMe. I've done two lots of exercise bike sessions today. Having read your eating window, and wondering how you managed breakfast, I have decided to close it at 7.30 instead of 8.30pm as of tomorrow and see what that works out as.

Welcome to the newbies. You'll do great.

meme70 · 03/02/2020 00:22

@MrsJonesAndMe Lol sorry I do IF have been 2.5 years and yes followed what he said

Creativebee · 03/02/2020 00:52

Thank you MrsJonesAndMe I’ve promised myself that I’m going to focus on my water intake this week and Try to get to the gym at least 3 times. I just wonder if IF is having a reverse effect on my WeightLoss, a bit like my body going into starvation mode or slowing down my metabolism (which to be honest, my metabolism has never really been great anyways). Thanks for the advice

BustedDreams · 03/02/2020 07:38

Good Morning! It soon gets around to Monday.

Stayed on plan yesterday. OMAD roast pork dinner followed by strawberries and a small amount of fresh cream.

@NotUnderMyHeart you are very welcome!

@SunshineCake if you’re not sleep well/having disturbed sleep that will mess with your hormones & appetite. I hope you got a better night last night!

@MrsJonesAndMe yes requesting bloods seems sensible when you know you’re under par.

@Creativebee When I’ve used TDEE calculators in the past they advise 1400 cals a day for me to lose. I know from experience that I gain on that amount of food. I do have some chronic health conditions which I know have an impact. Cals have to be 1000 or less a day for me to lose weight. In regards to adding foods from MFP, I usually add my own under a tag (so can search it on other days) or choose the one with a blue tick which means it’s been verified. I know it’s a minefield and can be a faff at times. Most things I add are what I’ve created within the app but I’ve been using it for nearly 2 years. If an item, same weight is listed with many differing choices I’d do a quick google which usually brings up the correct values. Not so easy if you’re making from scratch. @MrsJonesAndMe has given you good examples.

@meme70 Welcome & congratulations on your losses. These ladies on this thread are great at inspiring, motivating & supporting each other. You’ll fit right in! The last leg of losing weight is always the hardest. I’m on my last 15lbs. Its proving very stubborn and its not giving up without a fight. I’ve yoyod several lbs for months. Overall the trend is downwards but very slow. I won’t give up. If I did I would become obese very quickly and that would negatively affect my health and lifestyle. This is an eating plan for life. I know if I exercised more I might lose more but I’m limited to what I can do. Onwards and downwards.

@BellyRolls A warm welcome. Great support to be had here.

@LouHotel no I’ve not done a Tea detox. I’ve had several days at a time having healthy soups, salads and stews (minimal carbs) and I feel invigorated thereafter.

@SheepSocks let us know how you get on at the gym.

@cheeseomelette well done on your progress so far; sounds like you have a workable plan. IF can be restricted by working/family life. I find it easier than most to do 17/7 as I naturally don’t want food pre 12:00. Appetite isn’t there. Kitchen is closed by 19:00. Perhaps on your days off it might be easier. That said, IF isn’t a one size fits all concept. Going lower sugar will definitely help!

Today’s menu
Lunch butternut squash soup
Evening Meal Fish and vegetables
Water, white tea, turmeric latte.

Had a great day!

Morning everyone. Absolutely shattered as finished work 1.5 hours late then had to be up early for the horse. I’m moving her to a stable with full care in a couple of weeks so I only have to ride. Going to be very strange after 15 years of caring for my own horses but this is killing me. My job and horse care just do not mesh!

Food was good yesterday. I think I’m really getting into the swing of it and this feels like a way I can eat for life.

B - protein bar
L - grilled pita ‘pizza’ with pesto, cheese, ham and spinach plus salad
S - Apple
D - curried carrot and parsnip soup
S - bagel thin with butter and jam.

Approx 1200 calls.
Rode for an hour and did level 2 of the shred which was a killer!

BustedDreams · 03/02/2020 09:35

@Foreverlexicon loved your post! Very positive.

DH wasn't around so I got on the scales and got off very quickly before it settles as I didn't like what it showed. I'm annoyed with myself but not disheartened. Walked 1.5 hours with my dog and home to do some cleaning and now I'm going to make some mushroom soup. I've got the cleaning urge so will do more plus go on the bike twice. I promise I will not weigh tomorrow.

Thankfully my dog slept through Smile.

SunshineCake · 03/02/2020 12:02

30 minutes and 500 calories courtesy of the bike.

Mushroom soup on the hob.

Nearly time to eat but I'm starting to think food would be nice but not properly hungry yet.

Will do some vacuuming and clean some of the bathrooms/loos.

Hope all are well.

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/02/2020 13:04

Ah well not sure what to suggest then @meme70

Well done @Foreverlexicon and @sunshinecake

I'm in the zone at the moment. Hoping as the week goes on, that I can stick to it. Getting bloods done this afternoon @BustedDreams Went to bed at 8:50 last night Shock

Have a good day all
