Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

I'll be very interested to know what you think of it, Starbear.

wabbitt · 17/09/2007 01:14

Starbear... is it too late for me to join?

please??

Starbear · 17/09/2007 08:43

Wabitt, Just jump in. Just tell us a little bit about why you wnat to lose the weight and how much you need to lose maybe how you plan to get there so we can swap ideas . I think we are aiming to get to our goal weight for the 1st December so we can wear a nice party dress.
I weighed in today at 71kgs. So about 2 lbs but without really dieting (smile) so today I'm going to try harder. I have been putting in the time on the exercise front. Ds is now naked must dress him.
Fedda, I found that book free with Health and fitness Joanna Hall Drop a dress size for life. Get back to you later.

Wabitt, Just looked at the time you posted. Are you getting enough sleep?

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 17/09/2007 08:48

Can I jump in to please? My stats are:

Height: 5' 7"
Weight: Almost 11 stone
Weight to lose: Would like to lose 2 stone, but realistically aiming at 9lb loss by 1st December.
Self image: very low

I need to eat less crap, drink less (have started that already) and exercise more, but I don't want to diet as such as it depresses me.

Will walking for an hour a day whilst pushing DD in the pushchair help lots or little?

Thanks.

Starbear · 17/09/2007 09:05

LilRedWG, Of course jump in. Your stats are a little like mine but I'm 5'6 and the wrong side of 11 stones.
Fedda the only Meal planner I can find on the net now is on NetMum but it crap! Everything else wants my money so I'm going to create my own when I get the time Ha! Ha!
Must get dressed and dress Ds this is a little addictive.

No weight loss for me this week but it's been a horrendous week. Dad is in hospital and Tuesday night was awful, touch and go whether he'd make it. I'm afraid I did a fair bit of comfort eating then. Dad is still holding his own but not out of the woods so I went up to visit him at the weekend (he lives 250 miles away). Spent the whole weekend either travelling or at the hospital so it was a case of grabbing whatever we could to eat. Not very healthy, especially the Chinese takeaway on Saturday, then DH had ordered takeaway when I got home on Sunday to cheer me up! To be honest, I'm amazed I haven't put any weight on (though does it go on the day you overeat or does it take a few days?). Will try harder this week.

fedda · 17/09/2007 09:41

Good idea, Starbear. I had poriage for breakfast but I still fell hungry so I ended up eating muisly as well. My weight goes down and up and I can only do so much. Dieting is depressing but if i try to think of it as a style of life, healthy eating or something it helps me. I think it's a project for life to cut out all the crap like crisps, buiscuits, shop bought cakes and refuse from birthday cakes completely. I can always say that I couldn't have another bite whe I'm invited to the party if I'm offered all these foods and try to feel on carrots sticks and all these healthy stuff. most of people are kind enough not to put preasure on us as they know we need to loose our weight, not gain more. Nyway, it really helps all the support you are giving me. Thank you.

ZZMum · 17/09/2007 09:46

I find this so hard -- when do I get time exercise, work FT, enjoy time with kids and cook healthy food...

I am 5.8 and am now over 12 stone, more than when kids where born... motivation does not seem to line with up with desire to be slim... the lure of the sofa is overwhelming at times!

This week am going to track food more and ensure I walk for 30 mins a day...

LilRedWG · 17/09/2007 11:34

Right - weighed myself. I am 10 stones 11 pounds. By 1st December I want to be 10 stones, but will be okay if I'm a couple of pounds over.

Can I do this?

fedda · 17/09/2007 14:50

LilRedWG, you have a target and you can do this. i found that cutting down some foods already helps. I've stopped buiscuits, white bread, cakes and crisps and I feel lighter. What the food you can stop? I was eating sandwiched every lunch and now - none. i don't even miss them now and they were a very important part of my diet.

fedda · 17/09/2007 14:52

LilRedWG, I feel for you. It is hard and healthy meals are not always helping to loose weight. i'm trying to use less amount on my plate and share some of my food with the kids. I end iup having smaller portions and the kids love having my food as it seems to them better 9we all have the same).

LilRedWG · 17/09/2007 16:18

Fedda - what do you have instead of sandwiches? I don't feel like I've eaten if I have soup.

fedda · 17/09/2007 16:28

LilRedWG, it varies. I have 2 boiled eggs with a generous helping of salad - tomatoes, cicumber, red pepper, celery, lemon juice.
Soup is often on a menu - I put all the vegies I fancy. add spices, unpealed 3 cloves of garlic and some oats. i tend to use the veg which doesn't take long to cook - carots, celery, green beans, frozen peas, etc.
Sometimes I simply have a bowl of poriage for lunch.
you could hace lean ham with salad or like my friend had when he wanted to loose some weight - 6 different fruit, it feels you up well and it's guilt free.

LilRedWG · 17/09/2007 16:29

Ooo - good ideas, thanks

fedda · 17/09/2007 16:30

you are very welcome. Please let me know how you are getting on.

fedda · 17/09/2007 17:27

i've been looking at some old pages on the subject. It's amazing how many good ideas you can find while just looking at some old postings.

Starbear · 17/09/2007 18:12

Mummydoit, Sorry to hear your news. Are you getting help from other members of the family to cope with this? (nothing to do with weight lose)

OP posts:
fedda · 17/09/2007 18:16

I'm sorry too. on a lighter side, some good ideas here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1378/308411

Starbear · 17/09/2007 18:25

Fedda, have to take a leaf out of your book and work harder on the diet side of things.
Tonight after my little run/walk/ run I'll have beef burger with a huge salad and a small bun. Make extra salad and get some ham in the morning.
ZZMum if you work F/T can you run during lunchtime or get some help from your DH? I know this isn't easy but I'm just posing the question? Tried on some old boots today and couldn't pull up the zip. Must must try harder.
LilRedWG pushing the pram will help because I've put on more weight since Ds has been walking(we've sort of ditched the pushchair)Must go speak soon

OP posts:
fedda · 17/09/2007 19:16

Sorry, I didn't understand what you were saying, Starbear. Could you explain? Do you mean my diet is not good enough?

wabbit · 17/09/2007 20:59

Thanks Starbear - yes stat's of course!

I'm 5'4" (my age is 38 and I think this is significant as I used never to put weight on) and weigh 10st7lb - my waist is 30" and when I can find the tape measure I'll give you more measurements...

I was 8.5st before I got pregnant with ds - he's going to be 2 on Thurs and I have determined that NOW is the time to battle the wobbly bulging bits!

I had very bad SPD which has settled only in the last few months so I have joined my local Curves gym... my bmi is apparently 24 and my fat percentage 29%

I'm not a sweet tooth but my downfall has been snacking on yummy savories like olives and brie and fresh french loaf!! (all washed down with too much dry white

The snacking and wine have gone and I'm aiming to excercise 3 - 4 times a week

My aim is to lose 1.5st

I want to lose 1st by dec 1st

Starbear · 17/09/2007 21:01

Fedda No sweetheart My typing is rubbish and I didn't proof read it before I pressed post.
My diet is rubbish and I need to take a leaf out of your book. While I'm here I have read a bit of Joanne Hall and she has some great ideas. So no bun for me with my burger tonight. and more playing tag with DS

OP posts:
Starbear · 17/09/2007 21:03

Hi Wabbit, sorry can't chat as DH is cooking my tea and I haven't had a shower yet!Poo

OP posts:
fedda · 17/09/2007 21:13

Oh, Starbear, join the clab. My typing is rubbish too and I stopped bothering checking it. I wish there was a facility to press ABC on here but it doesn't seem to be so sorry everybody for all my misspellings. I can't wait to see her book and get some ideas. I've checked some websites and there is some confusion to what is okay to have for dinner. I'll be upset if fruit is not allowed as I snack on it every time I'm hungry. Unfortunately my DH loves fish cakes. He makes them really well and we are having them often for dinner and I know he makes them with potatoes, eggs, flour and fresh white breadcrumbs so potatoes, white bread and flour are something I was trying to avoid but I can't do it when he is cooking. All I can do is have 1 of them and without chips on a side. Still, can't be perfect.
