Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Hi, Fimbles. Sorry to hear you have a cold. You need to eat to feel better in my opinion so have some slices of lemon with honey and salad with a drizzle of olive oil and lemon. Honey and olive oil have soothing properties and lemon fights the cold. Have some nice vegie soups. Some people believe that chicken soup is very good so you might want to try that. Have some grapes, berries. An apple a day keeps doctor away, so they say but I think any fruit and berries would keep your cold at a bay. You can feed the cold without putting on pounds, Fimbles. I hope you feel better soon x

kidsrus · 07/09/2008 22:46

oh poor you fedda (((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))
like fimbles says feed it with fruit and veg as most of them have healing properties and are easy to eat.
Fish has lots of good oils and so do seeds nuts.
avoid starchy and high calorie foods as they will do nothing to make you better.
Snuggle in with a honey and lemon with a spot of brandy if you like.
Plenty of oranges for vit c and try to get lots of sunshine! lol (in this country!)
hope you feel better soon.

ooooo tomo you could have poridge with honey and fruit, orange snack, waldorf salad, tuna and steamed veg, grapes & banana, honey and lemon with brandy and still be eating healthy whilst feeding a cold the easy way.

kidsrus · 07/09/2008 22:48

oops sorry i meant fimbles(((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))
but fedda you can have the hugs if it is catching!

Fimbles5 · 08/09/2008 07:48

Thanks everyone - You have obviously suffered with colds/flu in the past as you seem to know exactly what to do?!? Thanks for the hug, I needed that. Didn't have Brandy so went to bed with hot toddy (whisky) which I never drink but it made me sleep anyway. Feel lousy this morning, but have plenty of oranges with me to see me through the day. Does anyone know whether there is loads of sugar/calories in Lemsips??

fedda · 08/09/2008 14:04

Sorry, Fimbles, I have no idea as I never use it. If it helps you, just go for it. And have my hugs too. I hope you feel better soon x
hi, kidrus, thanks for the hugs, I can always do with them. My hugs to you too x

kidsrus · 11/09/2008 21:43

what have you been eating?

fedda · 11/09/2008 21:47

Hi kidrus, I have lost 1 kg but I had ice cream for 2 days running so I think my victory is short lived. I just had to have something sweet. I had it with blueberries yesterday and raspberries today and it was too nice to resist. I'll think of some ideas for easy recipies and post if I find anything good.

Fimbles5 · 13/09/2008 18:03

Hi everyone - I am a little disheartened as I honestly was as good as gold from Monday a week ago until Thursday this week (so 11 days), I didn't fall off the wagon once only to find I had put on 0.5lb . I am totally gobsmacked I had been so good. I know its only 0.5lb but what happened to my loss!! Been pretty bad since, but hoping it was due to my cold and too many lemsips. Try again next week. Well done fedda on your loss. Keep up the good work.

fedda · 13/09/2008 20:37

I put on 0,5 kg as well, Fimbles. Don't worry, we'll put it right . I had salmon steak with salad (no dressing0 and nuts with tea without sugar yestrday for dinner and it was lovely. Today though I had pasta with chicken so i can't be perfect. let's try from Monday together.

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 21:22

ok mon here how are we all?
started good porridge then ate salad with a balsamic dressing and tuna advocado and coleslaw
steamed veg and chicken for tea
small ice cream
and loads of cow biscuits! with coffee duh!!!
nevermind there is always tomo.
hope you all did better than me!

fedda · 15/09/2008 21:52

I love coleslow! I also had porridge for breakfast and I was wondering what to have for lunch and suddenly I had this idea. I've opened a can of baked beans, a can of chopped tomatoes, added a bit of water, some spices and tiny pieces of beef from Sunday roast and there I had my lazy soup for lunch - I really enjoyed it. I had a can of sardines on whole meal toast for dinner with a cup of tea - easy as well. I'm afraid I gained some weight though so I must try harder, girls.

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 22:14

do you think balsamic dressing is a really bad thing to have?
i was getting bored with salad and needed something to perk it up.

fedda · 15/09/2008 22:45

Kidrus, I don't know about the colouries in balsamic dressing but my feeling is that it's a good stuff. I think it should be good for your suggestion. Hold on, I'll try to google it.

You cannot loose weight merely by exercising - especially not if aged 44 (i am not being insulting, I am also in my ermmm...4th decade). Exercise is brilliant but you will have to diet too. I run 5 miles three times per week and it is not enough to shed the pounds ...unless you are planning on a half marathon every other day you will also have to cut back on food intake or change your eating habits

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2008 22:59

I was responding to the OP only, not initially noticing that the thread is 12 months old [nlush]. Where is that twelvelegs (or whatever her name is) she hates resurrected old threads!

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2008 23:02

that should be

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 23:03

hmc its not reserected its still ongoing from last year we haven't started a new one as we like this one!

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 23:05

oops sorry resurrected i meant

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2008 23:05

However you look at it, I'm still a tit

Have you all been loosing weight then?

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 23:12

yes we did really well all of us !

then we put it all back on lol!

so here we go again but this time maintaining is much better than gaining

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2008 23:12

Oh no - the proverbial yo yo dieting. Tell me about it!

kidsrus · 15/09/2008 23:14

as for the tit we will let you off.
im the biggest tit around its makes others laugh!

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2008 23:20

Fimbles5 · 16/09/2008 08:00

HMC - You are not a 'tit' if you found our thread. We need all the support we can get, and if you would like to join us you are more than welcome. We are very proud of the fact that our thread has now been going for over a year. Although we are not where we would like to be weightwise, it shows that we are dedicated to helping each other, and we all need medals for our power of perseverence - I've said it before but I am still hoping that together one by one we will reach and maintain our goals. I wouldn't be where I am today without this thread.
