Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

i did it last year and lost a stone & half but i need to get serious about it again and try to keep to the fruit and veg.
I like it because its healthy eating with naughtys thrown in

fedda · 08/09/2007 23:58

If it worked for you it should be a good decision. Good luck.

Starbear · 09/09/2007 20:06

Kidsrus, if weight watchers works for you, don't break it but I can't cope with working out all the points for the meals I make from scratch. I'm with Fedda don't like the fact that you can eat bad stuff and still be on track. I'm a bit of a food snob please for give me. Went to Legs bums & tums today. I'm so unfit I looked dreadful. Well it only the beginning and I will feel so much better at Christmas if I have a slim and toned body Must keep that in mind. Still can't keep to any sort of meal plan. Trying to figure out what all three of us would eat?!!

Food doctor didn't help then? How about some grilled fish with vegetable salad or chicken with vegetables? turkey strips stir fried with pleanty of vegies is nice and tasty as well. I had soup for dinner made with mushrooms, carrots, green peas, green beans, garlic, coriander and spices. it was very tasty and wholesome. i have to admit i was the only one eating it though. My DH fancied baked beans on toast and my kids had pizza. What type of things do your kids like eating?

Starbear · 10/09/2007 08:53

Good Morning, Results from the bedroom. No weight change 73 kgs. Couldn't get to grips with Food Doc shopping list. Too much hunting for the right stuff. DS will eat anything if he's hungry it's DH that's a problem. I think we will have Burger today with salad and ratatouille for lunch tommorow. Fish Tuesday night see how that goes. I'll try Food Doc again as I've spent the money. I'm going to try and do an exercise tape (so 20th century) with DS. Ha,Ha Must go Ds has just wet his pants. I should know better.
Feel pretty good as I've kept the excercise up.
Running tonight Gym Wednesday and see if we can do something at work. How is everyone else doing?

Morning everyone. I've had an amazing first week on this diet and have lost 6 pounds. To be fair, I think a lot of that was water retention. The week before I started, I ate loads of sugary foods and that always makes me bloat up and retain water so I reckon it's probably only a pound or so of actual fat but it did give me a boost when I weighed myself. I didn't stick to the diet as much as I'd hoped at the weekend. I went to a Police concert on Saturday and there wasn't time to eat before we went so I ended up getting a hot dog. Plus had some very stressful phone conversations with family last night (Dad very ill) and had rather more wine than I ought to have done. Still, back on track for this week. Hoping to do a bit of exercise once DS2 is out at nursery, starting tomorrow.

Starbear · 10/09/2007 10:43

Well done Mummydoit. What diet plan are you following, if any? If not how are you doing it? I'll try and follow your lead this week. Give us some ideas.

OP posts:
mummydoit · 10/09/2007 11:18

I'm not following a specific diet. My two problems have been portion size and snacking so I've cut out snacking altogether and I'm doing a month on Weightwatchers ready meals. The idea is to get used to a smaller portion sizes so that when I go back to home-cooked meals, I'll be putting less on my plate so the weight will stay off. Now is a good time to do it because my DH has lost a lot of weight through illness so I'm cooking really fattening things for him to get his weight back on. It makes life easier if I can just do a ready meal for myself. Not a long-term solution but a good short-term measure until we're both able to eat the same food. With the snacking, I'm just trying to avoid situations where I know I snack. I'm spending less time on the computer as that's one of my typical snack habits - sit down with a cup of coffee and a few biscuits while I check emails, etc. I'm also doing a major house clean followed by some decorating. Just trying to keep busy so I'm not sitting down, reaching for food.

fedda · 10/09/2007 16:26

Well, I'm not giving up on snacking at all but I only snack on fruit, vegetable, nuts and smoothies. my tummy is still the same, so is my weis line though.

fedda · 10/09/2007 16:27

i read in G1 book that watermellons are as bad as waffles. Do you believe it/ I thought watermellons were cleansing us and were good for some illnesses.

Starbear · 10/09/2007 23:35

Ah, So maybe I should stock up on ready meals for a couple of weeks and concentrate on the exercise. That might work I don't know what my Mum will say when she looks in the freezer. Did 'The Crunch' with Karen Amen this morning (sit ups tape V.old) with Ds in the room not easy but, not impossible. PM went for a jog/run with a running club called little feet. Can't meation the food as I didn't do well. Might print off a blank meal planner that saw on an American website.

Melons including water melons alway help me go to the loo for a poo. Which I think is a good thing!!

I must admit, the ready meal thing is a bit embarrassing. I'm ashamed of my trolley going round the supermarket! I love cooking and always pride myself on doing everything home-made so it feels totally alien to buy ready meals. But, as I said, it's more for the portion control than the actual calories. I can cook very healthy meals myself with, say, 350 calories a portion but I've got into the habit of having big portions. That's what I need to cure myself of and this was the only way I could think of. I'm doing it till the end of September then, hopefully, will have got used to eating a bit less.

Starbear · 12/09/2007 21:29

Mummydoit I might have to copy you just to get going. V tired today but did take lunch into work. Roast Med veg and Humus & salad sandwich. Went to the gym but no motivation . I'm going to try Aqua aerobics next week see how that goes. Might refresh me after work.

fedda · 13/09/2007 22:04

how are you all doing? I've met my friend today who i haven't seen just for a few weeks. she looks so fantastically slim. I can't believe it. She wasn't fat really but she looked not as good as now. I need to find the right moment to ask her how she has achieved it. I can't wait to now her secret!

Fimbles5 · 14/09/2007 07:17

Hello all - I'm still here and still plodding along!! I lost 2lbs last week following Paul Mckenna hypnosis, but am bored listening to the CD now, but must find the motivation to persevere. Have also joined weightwatchers in the hope this may help too. How is everyone else getting on, its all gone very quiet!!

Starbear · 14/09/2007 08:46

Yes Fimbles5 it has gone quiet. Good going on losing 2 lbs. I still haven't had the guts listened to Paul McKenna while DH is around no other time I can do it.. Will start this Saturday. I have been going to the gym and did a few exercises at home. Must go to work now Ds woke up at 4am..ish (I think I was too tired to look at the clock) with a fever. Did anybody try no carbs after 5 diet? i'm trying to follow some rules I found on the net and hopefully soon I'll find her book and read it. I do have fruit as a snack though and eat fruit at 10 PM so i don't know if I qualify.

Starbear · 15/09/2007 20:37

Hi Fedda, No, I haven't don't know if I could stick to it.Still haven't printed off a menu planner I found 2 years ago on the net. That might help me? Hope everyone else is on track. Going to a a local council cycling meeting on Monday to see if I can improve my cycling and then I could cycle to & from work.

kidsrus · 15/09/2007 22:07

hi all sorry i haven't posted been busy this week and dh was hogging computer at night.
I lost 1lb after a bad week, this week hasn't been quite so bad but fri was a repeat of last week
Went out cycling today and walked to school most days this week so here's hoping even if its only another pound i will be pleased.

fedda · 15/09/2007 22:58

Hi, Starbear, what meal planner did you print out? I couldn't find any. Apparantely you can sign up for a newsletter with some menues in it but i haven't received any yet. I'd appreciate any ideas on the carb curfew diet as it sounds like a good idea to me although it's hard when DH will always have pots, rice or pasta for dinner and I had to have spaghetti bolognese without spaghetti and chili con carne without rice. My DH thought I was truly overdoing it.

fedda · 15/09/2007 23:15

I've just found this womansday.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=160667

Starbear · 16/09/2007 10:01

Fedda Not too sure about Kirste Alley's diet as it has roast pots for dinner on one day! I thought they were carbs? Well done Kidrus you don't sound very possitive what's up? Catch up with you all sonn. Mustn't dilly dally as I'm off to the gym. I must admit it's a lovely day and I would prefer to stay in the garden but I've started this and I would feel bad if I didn't follow through as DH takes Ds out Sunday Mornings. Speak soon

OP posts:
fedda · 16/09/2007 13:19

Starbear · 16/09/2007 20:48
