Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Can I join too please! Joined a thread a couple of weeks ago but failed miserably, so need the support and would like to try again, starting tomorrow. Trying to be positive. We can do this together. X

Starbear · 02/09/2007 20:39

Rules of engagement.
When giving advice or tips always start with the words 'As you know' it get up my nose when people give advice I already know but can't get done. This should stop people feeling demoralised
Post your plans for the week and see how you've done and see everyone else.
Post how you managed to diet or exercise this may give other people ideas to help them.
It's going to be unpleasant grit your teeth and get going. 'When the tough get going' and all that...
Try and do a home DVD come hell or high water.
When doing the laundry get your kit together jogging bottoms socks t-shirt, ready. Don't iron it. Put out like school kit ready for the morning.
Don't be embarrassed to exercise or diet. I hate exercising when my Dh is around must get over it. (he is PE teacher so forgive me for this one)
Drink tons of water just because you can.
Pretend there is a war on!!!
Cook new and inventive food it will be crap so you'll eat less of it. I'm making cassoulet with beans tomorrow it will be muck.
Think that Starbuck,Costa coffee cakes are evil like the James Bond enemy by taking over the world resist and you too will have a body like Brit Ekland or Halle Berry.
Give your self a treat I will have a cup of tea with sugar first thing
Weighing tommorow with measurements.
See you later

Can I join in too, please? I'm 5'6 and 11 stone 7lb. Would like to get down to 10 stone. I've been finding it really hard as DH needs to gain weight so the house is full of chocolate, cake and crisps to tempt his appetite, plus I've been cooking with butter, cream and full-fat milk to fatten him up. Unfortunately, it's fattened me up! As of Friday, I'm now resorting to cooking separate meals and I plan to walk the DCs to school once term starts, plus do some jogging and swimming. This term DS1 starts primary and DS2 starts nursery to I will have a couple of hours to myself in the afternoons to do some uninterrupted exercise. I'm not brave enough to weigh-in at Rosemary Conley or WeightWatchers but would love to join in here.

Fimbles5 · 03/09/2007 08:39

Morning everybody - Well I suppose somebody has to start us all off so here goes. Weighed in this morning at 11st6 not only is this the heaviest I have ever been, but I am only 5ft 2 so this means I have one horrendous BMI which indicates how unhealthy I am at the moment. So plan to cut out all the crisps and biscuits I normally eat today and take fruit as the alternative. (Feel totally shocked at weight as was only 10st 10 when I left hospital with DD2!) Good Luck!

Kbear · 03/09/2007 08:59

I'm in. I'm stepping up the swimming and walking and cutting out the crap and just eating sensibly three times a day. No biscuits, no cake, no fat.

I have a stone to lose. God how those pounds creep on when you take your eye off the scales!

Everyone pick an incentive to help you focus...like looking stunning at Christmas or a holiday early next year or something. I'm going on a dream trip to Florida in April so that's my goal. I want to look stunning sashaying round the pool in my cossie, with less leg wobble than at present .

Starbear · 03/09/2007 09:30

Morning,I'm 5'6 74 kgs about 11&half stones Waist 82cms Thighs 59cms. Going running after Ds goes to bed. Aiming for 10 stones.
Being nagged now by Ds. Would like to look trim at least for the Christmas Do. Did want to do a fitness dvd today but unlikely as we have to go into town for the dentist train & walking.
AS if you didn't know Med diet very good for kids and adults. Making beans & chicken cassoulet this evening.

We're going to a wedding at the beginning of December and I want to be 10 stone by then. My aim is to make changes that I can keep up permanently. I'm buying WeightWatchers ready meals at the moment as I'm trying to educate myself to eat smaller portions. My downfall is piling my plate high or going back for seconds. I'm hoping that, by sticking to the ready meals for a while, I can get used to smaller portions and will stick to that when I go back to home-made. I'm also aiming to incorporate exercise into our daily routine - more walking to school and exercising or jogging when the DCs are both at school/nursery in the afternoons.

shreddies · 03/09/2007 09:42

Hallo! Right, I am 10 stone 10 this morning. I was 9 and a half stone before I had DS, and would like to get down to 10 stone again. A goal...hmm. I'm tempted to say my birthday which is mid Nov - 10 pounds in as many weeks. Should be do-able?

Have had a bowl of muesli this am, have some lentil soup for lunch and DH bought stuff ot make pork stir fry this evening.

Starbear, bean and chicken cassoulet sounds v nice. I think best approach is just to cut out junk food and especially sugar which is so bloody addictive. My treat will be a cup of real coffee every morning - I know it's not fattening but according to GI rules it really messes around with your blood sugar levels

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 09:57

may i join to I've lost three and half stone and got to my target of 11 stone for th end ofr august this weekend...my next target is 10.7 for the 8 October

and then the final target is 10 stone for dec 1 i think

I am 5ft4

mummydoit · 03/09/2007 10:02

Well done, Zippi. Can I ask how you've managed to lose the weight? Are you following a particular diet or just healthy eating generally?

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 10:11

thanks

I started last \november

eating healthily and started exercising gave up wine..it was almost an impossible task to start with but I have worke really hard and built up the exercise from nothing to about to gym, swim and walking..the last couple of months I have been doing about 3 hours or more in the gym, 3 miles swimming and 42 miles walking a week

eating I have got into a routine and eat nothing which isn't good for me

I didn't lose much to start with..the last two months I was determined (dp left me on 26 June a complete shock and that made me more determined as it copuld have gone the other way but it gave me a structure to force myself to wok to and I have forced myself when i really haven't felt like it)to get going and lost another stone

about a poind a week is quite good to average because you don't lose health or strength or look so haggard

bigwombat · 03/09/2007 10:14

Hi - can I join too? I'm 5'10" and 12st 7lbs. Want to lose at least a stone, but have tried so many times I've lost count. Dp weighs over 20st but has lost 3.5 stone using the Cambridge diet. Tried that but it nearly killed me. Going to try a GI style diet with some exercise!

Keltie40 · 03/09/2007 11:42

Hello - just joined Mumsnet 2day. Can I join too - or am i too late? I am 5'6 and 12st 12 at the mo having lost 16lb already since Jan. Lacking motivation at the moment but would like to lose another 7lbs in time for hol in Oct.

fortyplus · 03/09/2007 11:53

I have lost 2 stone [smug emoticon] but could do with losing another one!

This is what I did...

Avoid all sugary foods (hard at first but you soon get used to it)

Pile the plate high with low cal veg and only have very small amounts of sauces, gravy etc

Goes without saying that you should avoid fatty food such as pastry, pizza, sausages, but fortunately for me I'm not a great lover of that sort of thing.

Take more exercise (usually go on friend's cross trainer twice a week, ride once a week, walk more, cycle with kids when I can eg 22 mile ride last week)

Stop drinking alcohol during the week (I was having 2 or 3 glasses of wine per night)

Don't forget that very small differences can affect your weight greatly over time - there are about 3800 calories in a pound of fat, so you haven't been a pig to gain weight - just 120 extra calories per day will add a pound in a month! Luckily the reverse also applies - a small reduction in calorie intake together with a little extra exercise will allow you to lose a couple of pounds each month, which is far more likely to stay off than sudden weight loss from strict dieting.

Good luck, everyone!

fortyplus · 03/09/2007 11:55

zippitippitoes - you have done brilliantly!

zippitippitoes · 03/09/2007 12:45

well don you others losing too

I think it is hard work but well worth it and these threads are helpful for motivation..I feel completely different..somewhat soured by being dumped but heyho

fedda · 03/09/2007 17:19

Starbear, sorry, I'm late. I had a computer break for few days. As for the recipy book if you are still looking, may be try The food doctor every diet by Ian Marber. i have to say I haven't tried it yet but it sounds good to me and I'm going to read it and see if I can follow the recommendations. There are many books you can foind on the subject but i personally would go with the once which don't ask me to have separate times for meat and potatoes ,etc. because it prooved to me a real nightmare and impossible thing to feed my family and eat with them. i like the ideas of increasing fruit and veg and drinking more water as it replaces the naugty foods which I lke eating. i found it a very good idea of 10/10 but some days I struggle with it as I simply can't find 10 veg and fruit a day.

massivebigpantsface · 04/09/2007 08:14

Hello all! how is it going for everyone so far?

I completely forgot to start yesterday so I am one day behind! I've read the rules starbear and thought I would start by announcing my stats:

*I am 5ft 7
*Before I had dd I was 11st3 - the heaviest I had ever been
*The day before I gave birth I was 12st3
*2 weeks after having dd i was down to 10st5!

I swore then that I would not let myself put on any weight! - and i didn't for a few months...

*recently been putting on about a pound a week now and weighed myself this morning - 11st!

If i don't do something NOW the future looks fat!

i will follow thee in this quest!

ZZMum · 04/09/2007 08:19

I would like to join this want to drop 2 stone to get down to 10 stone ... have to do it as I am 42 and I look so frumpy with the extra weight when I was younger, the extra pounds look voloptuous -- but not now... will watch and contribute to this!

massivebigpantsface · 04/09/2007 08:29

idealy I would like to be at soemwher between 9st7 and 10, but I'll aim for 10st to start off!

shreddies · 04/09/2007 10:39

How did everyone get on yesterday? I managed not to eat any sugar - I have massive chocolate cravings in the afternoon. Also, no wine in the evening, I'm sure just cutting that out alone will make a massive difference. However, I was starving after my pork stir fry and did have a bowl of weetabix before going to bed . In my defence DS still wakes up three or so times a night and couldn't face the thought of dealing with that without being fully stoked up.

Keltie40 · 04/09/2007 11:13

Bust 102 cm
Waist 98 cm (that's nearly as big as the bust!)
Thighs 65 cm
Upper arms 33 cm

I am 5'6 and weigh 12st 12lbs. Did not have a good day yesterday - couldn't get mindset right. Consequently I ate 2 packets of crisps and a bag of M&M's and DD's leftovers before eating my own tea!

Have already lost 16lbs since January. Joined a gym and until recently was going 3 or 4 times a weeks and following a low fat diet (based loosely on WW points). Not been to gym for 10 days and have been drinking too much wine in the evening so need to get back on track from today. Hoping this will give me more motivation. Good luck for today everyone!

Starbear · 04/09/2007 22:50

Hi everyone, How's going?
Fedda, Got That book Food Doctor by Ian Marber today. Thanks for the suggestion as I didn't have a clue where to start. Have to go shopping for the stuff on Thursday as I work tommorow unlikely to go shopping after work as I have to get home to let my Mum get home.
People at work seem to be motatived so that will help. Haven't done to well today
Started okay but as I didn't know what to cook for tonight snacked on chesse biscuits then Spag bol then a little ice cream.
Will work harder tommorrow.

Could I join too?

I'm going to Rosemary Conley classes (I will let you know my weight tomorrow)

It's probably a good time for me to start, as I've got the flu and have no appetite.

I am 4 stone heavier than I was on my wedding day.

I have lost about 5 lb on RC diet so far. I now must up the ante, apparently if we lose a lb every week from now until xmas, we'd have lost a stone.

I need to drink more water and eat more fruit. I'm also going to increase the exercise classes I attend. I'm also going to pilates.
