Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

wabbit · 18/09/2007 12:46

Kidsrus - are you consistently losing about a pound a week?

about you're evening grazing... should we all look sternly at you (over glasses for those who wear them!)

fedda · 18/09/2007 21:11

I've got the book by Joanne Hall. The good news is that i can eat fruit and veg in the evening and my snacks were okay. i just need to avoid after 5 rice, pasta, bread, potatoes and cereals, not all carbs. She also say about 80 - 20 ratio so it sounds good to me. Would anybody be interested in joining me?

Starbear · 18/09/2007 21:28

Fedda, Oh! always eat what ever DH cooks. otherwise he'll stop and that's no good. Very healthy that the DC see Daddy cooking. Fish cakes are yummy. My lot love them. Would Baked beans be okay instead? Could you exercise while they are being made? (A Joanne Hall Tip!) Not that I could do that today I brought in the washing from the line while my Spag Bol was cooking. You gave me an idea the other day which I did today. DH had pasta. I boiled a handful of brown rice, brought two courgettes (or small marrows) and mixed Spag Bol, rice and a little cheese and stuffed the courgette. Put it in the oven with a little more cheese on top. It didn't look so daft on a plate and it's mainly veg What do you reckon people?

Kidrus, do you have an evening meal? I'm rubbish I was cooking today while snacking on mini bread sticks and houmous.
Fedda, I'll join you. Which Joanne Hall book are you following maybe its roughly the same as the freeb I have. Mummydoit are you going to join us? I know it will be hard for you. ZZmum are you still with us? Or did I scare you off

kidsrus · 18/09/2007 22:05

yes starbear every night mainly veg and meat.
it only takes half hour to cook the worst part is peeling veg.
had spag bol tonight everyones fav i use passata instead of ragu.
what does everyone else use?

fedda · 18/09/2007 22:53

Starbear, the book is called 'Cut the carbs after 5pm and loose fat fast!
My tummy is still big! I'm off to dancing now.
For breakfast I had unsweetened muisely with semi- skimmed milk and some strawberries and grapes.
lunch - chicken pieces with apple and blackcarrant juice.
Had a small lamb steak with the fat cut off and lot's of frozen peas tonight and as a snack I soaked 8 prunes in Capella apple and blackcurrant juice.
What do I do wrong? oh, yes, I had 2 squares of plain milk chocolate. Well, first time in 3 weeks!

wabbit · 19/09/2007 19:47

I did really well yesterday and cut out all snacks - but have had a bit of a crap day today workwise and fallen off the snack wagon by helping ds to finish his supper... I've not had mine yet and wonder with my salmon frozen and only bacon medalions in the fridge... what do I have??? bacon butty sounds so nice - salad with no salmon sounds rough!

like the idea of no carbs after 5 but don't think I've got the will power...

still not found tape measure..

have an appt with trainer tomorrow so will be in the gym at 10

fedda · 19/09/2007 20:36

It's actually not easy and I found a trick - put the vase with pretty flowers in the centre of you dining table and nobody will see what you have on your plate. If you serve everyone first by the time you are coming everybody is looking on their plates and they don't see that something is missing. We had meat with mushrooms, beans and rice and i just omited rice on my plate. nobody noticed. The same was with spaghetti bolognese without spaghetti. If you put some sald on your plate as well you wouldn't finish before everyone. I don't know for how long I can play my tricks though but so far i had about a week of this diet. My tummy is still big though but I feel lighter. I like Joanne's book as well, it's a good read.

Starbear · 20/09/2007 21:22

Wabbit, How did you gym session go today?
What did you end up picking for dinner yesterday?
With those 2 things you could have had warm salad Fry some bacon in a small amount of olive oil make a large salad then take the bacon put it on top then make a little dressing by adding a little drop more oil, 1/2 tsp grainy mustard and vinegar, warm this up and put on top of the salad. No carbs Would this work for you?
I also had a crap day yesterday at work. It was okay until the last knockings. Don't you just hate that. I didn't dive into the biscuit tin but went for a swim then a spinning class I sweated buckets. Had left over sap bol with no pasta. I bet I haven't lost an oz.
Fedda good idea.

Thank you, Starbear. I'm in a serious trouble tommorrow as my DH bought fish cakes and wants to have french fries with them! What am I going to do? I'm shopping for some tomatoes, red pepper and cucumber salad but none of my DH food I want to have. may be i put in on a plate and eat slowly my salad. With a bit of luck he'll get bored and finish before me or i'll snick a tisue on my pots pretending I've finished them. I'll be hungry though. i have some mushroonms but they don't really go with fishcakes or may be I'm wrong and they do? I think my DH will be shocked to see me cooking mushroomns if we have fishcakes. Oh, what am I to do?

Starbear · 21/09/2007 21:11

I know what you mean. I had good intentions today but I finished work late. So my lovely Mum made us a chicken curry with pilau rice. I only had a little bit really
I was planning on fish with steamed veg but couldn't get to the supermarket in time. I'll shop tomorrow for better things and work on it.

kidsrus · 21/09/2007 22:11

ahh thanks fm i will go & check

fedda · 21/09/2007 22:18

Starbear, chicken curry is a lovely food. Please, don't worry. i managed to snkckout of fish cakes and french fries. I made Greek salad and put 1 fishcake on my plate. While I was eating the salad my DH finished and you can guess the rest. Anyway, we can only do our best and there is a rule of 80 - 20.

kidsrus · 21/09/2007 22:32

fedda have you got a dog or cat they love fishcake. you could accidently on purpose drop it on the floor for the dog to eatworks well in my house

mummydoit how is your dad i hope he is recovering well?

Starbear · 21/09/2007 22:40

Kidrus Want do you do at the farm to get fit? Going to a kids party at a farm on Sunday. Must not eat chips and cake!

OP posts:
fedda · 21/09/2007 23:12

kidsrus, to be honest even if I had a dog or a cat I wouldn't give them these fish cakes. They were not nice 9i only judge from the smell which was so artificial). I'm afraid mine went in a rubbish bean when my DH wasn't looking.

kidsrus · 21/09/2007 23:13

well the one we go to has a large wavey rainbow slide and 2 death slides then there is the parachute type trampoline thing.
also by the time you have chased my 19mth dd around the play area and looked at the animals its time to go home for a well earned rest

Starbear · 22/09/2007 14:42

I think I'm starting to change my habits. Boys had smoked salmon bagels (too much white flour) full fat cream cheese. I had salad crisp bread and smoked salmon. Yippe

fedda · 22/09/2007 17:33

Sounds good, Starbear.

Starbear · 23/09/2007 20:33

Joanne Hall Rocks, Carb curfew. Today boys had fish fingers and bakes beans. I had two tortilla wraps with salad guacamole and hand full of kidney beans. Had two but felt very full will only have one next time. Tonight Roast dinner without the Yorkshire pudding and pots. This morning boys to church me legs, bums and tums. Lets see what the new attitude brings. How are the rest of you doing?

fedda · 23/09/2007 22:02

Hi, for dinner I had roast chicken with runner beans and carrots with pressed apple juice. DH had roast chicken with gravy, roast pots and runner beans, a glass of white wine, chedder chese with water buiscuits and ice-cream followed by coffee with chocolate. Kids had chicken with stuffing, roast potatoes, steamed carrots followed by jelly. Well, I'm trying my best, it's difficult though to resist.
