Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Hi everyone. I agree, the thread is great! I have something to share with you. I've lost half a kg by having hot water or hot water with lemon before any food in the morning. Cold water doesn't clear you as well as hot I think but it's great when it's hot. Later - poridge with milk, honey and berries (sorry, fimbles, I know you don't like poridge but you could swop it with greek 0% fat yougurt or just have berries or carrots. Actually I often have 1 grated carrot without anything else or with grated apple and it's really good. It feels you up and later clears you out. For lunch - soup home made or fresh from packet, not from tin as it has much less salt. For dinner - water instead of juice with my meal which has a bit of everything but a lot of veg. night time hunger attack - 2 carrots cut in sticks or celery or 2 apples or berries or something else healthy. Excersise - walking up and down stairs and school runs plus whatever I feel like - lisght and easy. I'm not saying i can always follow myself so I'll have ice-cream sometimes and something else I feel like I need at theat moment but I think if I follow it 80% it will be a good and healthy plan. What do you think, girls?

handlemecarefully · 16/09/2008 10:53

I'd love to join you actually...have been trying on and off (with some sucess i.e. two steps forwards and one step backwards) to loose weight for a long time

fedda · 16/09/2008 12:04

Welcome to the thead, handlemecarefully. Let's hope it will help you to achieve what you are aiming for. I keep saying that this is my favourite thread and ti's lovely to hear from new people as well as hear from people who are still here. Starbear who started it might join us one day. That would be fantastic as she inspired so many of us.

Fimbles5 · 17/09/2008 07:56

Welcome HMC - Its good to have you on board. How much would you like to lose? and what are your goals?? Well done Fedda on the new healthy eating regime. I am going to take your advice and try to drink more water today. At the moment I hardly drink anything at all which I know is really bad for me. I am prepared to try anything new. Keep it up with the new ideas. Thankyou X

fedda · 17/09/2008 10:56

You are very welcome, Fimbles. Water is good provided you don't overdo it. You can have too much of a good thing as well as I've learned so try in moderation and it will work miracles. x

Fimbles5 · 19/09/2008 18:36

Hows it going with the water Fedda. Are you spending as much time in the loo as I am??

fedda · 19/09/2008 21:02

Actually, it's pretty awful. I don't drink much but I visit toilet too often and it seems like going forever.

kidsrus · 19/09/2008 23:26

oooh my gran always had a cup of hot water after her food she said it helped her digestion.
she ate prunes too!!!!!!!!!
she used to say oranges were too acid and onions repeated too much so wouldn't eat anything that contained onions.
its making me feel old now as onions do repeat and i suffer with cramp like she used to(my boobs are also heading down south like hers did too)Whispered!!!)
my mum constantly fights her weight and i think my gran did too so perhaps its in the genes.
do you think if i ask the dr for a mummy tuck he would help by removing 1.5 stone just from my chest and belly?

kidsrus · 19/09/2008 23:28

ps fimbles and fedda she spent a lot of time in the privy too!!!!!!!!my gran that is.

fedda · 20/09/2008 17:43

I know what you are saying, kidrus. Well, I'm just cooking mince with onions and I love onions too much to refuse them although they do repeat on me as well. onions and garlic are natural antibiotic and they are very good for us. My parents and grandparents were fighting their weight too but I have my hopes. my parents were actually simply eating too much and they were not naturally fat, they became fat in the middly of their 20-s so I think it was due to my mum's delicious cooking. I don't think my cooking is as brilliant so I'm hopeful

kidsrus · 20/09/2008 21:49

been busy today selling at a boot sale think we broke even after the kids bought loads of stuff
food not good salad at 2pm and homemade burgers for tea. ate a few biscuits today.
how did you do?

Fimbles5 · 21/09/2008 09:16

Not great here either I'm afraid. I always think that if I am still posting here at least I am thinking about it. I still have my goals in mind but the end of September is fast approaching and once again the motivation seems to have got up and left. My new goal is to be slim enough by Christmas to look fab in a new outfit (preferably a size smaller) which they say is between 7-10lbs. I am drinking the water though and if walking to and from the loo counts as exercise then I've done lots of that too Hope to weigh in later, so will let you know whether the water has made a difference. (wishful thinking emotion!)

fedda · 23/09/2008 07:58

Yes, everything counts, fimbles
I had biscits and cookies so I found my one kg I've lost earlier but never mind, let's start today.
Water cold, water hot,
salads, soups,vegies,fruit
and some other things in moderation,
not a lot of deprovation

ThePenguinProject · 23/09/2008 16:21

Can I join you guys? Fedda, I know you invited NumberFur, but I hoped I could piggyback that invite...

I am 5 foot 3 inches and 13st 4lb. I managed to put on 5, yes 5, stone whilst pregnant. 2 stone 4lb to go to get back to my pre preg weight of 11 stone. That's still pretty overweight, but much better than now...

I'm breastfeeding so I think for now, just losing something, even a lb a week would be good. Also no starving or binging...!

My plan

  • Join gym this week and go 3 times a week.
  • Eat 6 times a day (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner plus 3 snacks of fruit).
  • Eat at least 5 fruit & veg a day.
  • No crap during the week.....treats allowed at the weekend, but normal sized portions, no family packs by myself!
fedda · 23/09/2008 21:16

Hi, ThePenguinProject, everybody is invited and you are very welcome to join us. I love your plan

ThePenguinProject · 23/09/2008 22:16

Thanks Fedda - I actually find it hard to eat the snacks, but I know that way I'm less likely to reach out for the bad stuff with the justification "well, I hardly ate anything today so it's ok to eat a whole packet of hob nobs...."

fedda · 24/09/2008 11:30

ThePenguinProject, there is no one way of achieving what you want. Whatever works for you. Personally I find it hard not to snack but if you don't feel like it, it's okay. Good luck! i had a naughty start with a wonderful raspberry and chocolate muffing so I need to be more careful in future

ThePenguinProject · 24/09/2008 17:24

You can start your day again at any time. And I don't mean having two breakfasts! It's something I find really hard tho...

I had golden syrup porridge with frozen raspberries. Really healthy but feels really naughty. However am off to Gourmet Burger Kitchen for dinner, not sure what I'll find on the menu to be healthy there! Ironically I will be joining the gym after dinner, one step back and one jump forward eh?

fedda · 24/09/2008 22:54

Sounds exciting. I had garlic and lemon chicken with rice for dinner and now my snack - stewed cooking apple (no sugar added, home made) and a banana but I feel like coffee. Oh, dear.

kidsrus · 26/09/2008 23:18

started good with museli skipped lunch (too busy) had pasta with bacon and corgette (jamie oliver feed a family for a fiver meal)
then WAIT FOR IT! 5 shortcake biscuits with coffee oops!
well heres hoping im still down on points!
does anybody else feel shattered at the moment?
i still must increase my water intake perhaps it will give me more energy.

Fimbles5 · 27/09/2008 11:10

Hi everyone and welcome Penguinproject. Hope you are all ok. Well, haven't had a great week but haven't weighed myself either, and have felt so much happier for not weighing myself every day. Plan to find out the damage I have done on Monday and will let you all know. Kidsrus - I'm feeling shattered too, I think it has all caught up with us, the back to school run, charging about for the kids etc. I know how you feel. Don't worry about the shortcake biscuits, you did well to stop at 5, I would probably have eaten the packet and I am not joking!!

fedda · 27/09/2008 16:43

Hi everyone. Yes, shattered as well, yes biscuits with cofee as well - chocolate chip cookies - although stopped at 3 had them on 3 days so 9 in total and i don't even feel guilty - I don't know what's happening

Fimbles5 · 28/09/2008 18:20

Nothing to report!!! Just had to be the person to post the 1000th message. What an achievement, even if we are still working towards our goals, to keep this going to 1000 is amazing - don't you think?

fedda · 28/09/2008 22:09

Yes, it is, Fimbles.
