Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Starbear, I'm glad you have the book. It seems good to me. There are plenty of good books you can get in your library. Some though contradict the others. I suppose if you try grilling but not frying, steaming, cutting off fat on meat, cutting off unhealthy snacks and white flour products you'll achieve your goals. My understanding is that it's not so much loosing weight quickly but trying a healthy diet when you don't skip meals and very gradually loosing weight and making lofe long changes. I came across the advice of not to eat potatoes, rice, pasta and likewise products in the evening. Some people say to cut them out after 5pm, some suggest for dinner not to use them. So you replace say rice with the salad. i find it hard though as some meals are asking for the rice or potato accompaniment. Anyway, good luck to you and all of us.

I defintely don't have much carbohydarte..for breakfast i hace oats and jordans granola a lot more oats proportionate to the granola..oats are good low gi

then at lunch or through the day i have ltos of fruit at the moment nectarines, pears, apples, bananas, strawberries...

i then have salad and something like cottage cheese or smoked salmon or prawns with a slice of wholemeal bread if i am having a high exercise day

then i have chicken no fat or skin cooked in yougurt and curry paste with salad in the evening or a steak

I have been really hectic this week...i think i haven't eaten enough if anything so i have to be careful and get some more sleep and plan careefully or i will not be fit enough for holiday next week

mummydoit · 05/09/2007 09:11

For anyone with a sweet tooth, I've discovered that Hartley's do a pot of jelly that's only 10 calories. No fat and enough sweetness to satisfy a craving with hardly any calories. I have stocked up!

fedda · 05/09/2007 09:23

mummydoit, please be careful with the no sugar products which are sweet, artificial stuff could be bad for us as well. You can find raw carrots are sweet and much better. I have sweet tooth as well and I reduced dramatically coffee and tea as i need sugar in them and artificial sweetener is not my choice.

mummydoit · 05/09/2007 10:51

Fedda, thanks for the warning but I'm not too concerned. I don't use artificial sweeteners in tea/coffee, drink very few diet drinks and eat very few products with artifical sweeteners in. I know some people are worried but I personally don't feel the amount I consume is enough to be a serious concern. That's just my choice though. Others may feel different.

Starbear · 05/09/2007 23:02

Computer playing up so I'm going to try one more time to post info on this. See if it works

OP posts:
Starbear · 05/09/2007 23:10

Oh That worked. I tried typing every ones name in a long list and it would not let me do it. So to those who have just joined Welcome. Did circuit training today at lunch time which was very good but the diet isn't going so well. As I've only just brought the book I haven't yet got the supplies. I'm off tomorrow so hope to get everything I need to stop my bad habits.
Please post you results on Monday so we can keep it together.
I hope to lose a stone for Christmas so I can wear a fab dress for the Christmas do! How about everyone else Whats your goal?

OP posts:
fedda · 05/09/2007 23:25

Starbear, I'd like to loose some inches on my weist and get some new dresses which show my nice new figure and keep being slim

Fimbles5 · 06/09/2007 07:56

Morning everyone - Haven't posted for a couple of days as am a nightmare with diets, but my weight has been getting me down for ages so was a little sceptical about joining you all
However, starbear I need to lose 2-3 stone, so my goal is at least 1.5 stones by Christmas, and so far I am amazed. Read on another thread about Paul Mckenna, and have been following this for past few days (I cannot believe it, I haven't touched crisps, biscuits or cakes and seem to be drawn towards fruit. For me this is unheard of). Don't want to speak too soon, but whispers "I think this may just work"!.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Starbear · 06/09/2007 08:09

Fimbles5 Know what you mean? I still have to have tea with 1/2 sugar then of course it's too wet without a biscuit. Good to hear that you've be able to stay away from that stuff for the past few days. What are your major downfalls maybe we can work it out together?
Must go and have a shower DS is nagging, chatting and into everything on his Dad's desk must go. Speak later. Stop that....

OP posts:
Fimbles5 · 06/09/2007 08:18

Starbear - Believe me, if you manage to stop after "just a biscuit" then you are fab. I have one big problem with food. Could call it an addiction - can start eating straight after breakfast, and work my way through the cupboards for all the sweet stuff. Major problem is with crisps and biscuits and believe me I'm talking neally a packet. This has been going on for ages, and when my Dad had a heart attack recently, you would think that would have been a wake up call. It wasn't I continued to binge eat, thats why I am dubious and can't get my hopes up with this Paul Mckenna book and CD, but having said that I cannot remember going through a day without craving crisps, and now I've done three days, and haven't even wanted any!
It is so weird and hard to believe.

mummydoit · 06/09/2007 12:24

Just discovered a great side-effect to my diet. My house is goin to be spotless! In an effort to keep myself busy and avoid snacking, I've just given my living room a thorough clean. An 'all the furniture out, covers off the sofa, wash the rug' kind of clean. It's kept me away from food and surely all that furniture-moving and scrubbing must have worked off a few calories? If I do a room a day, my house will be pristine in a week!

Keltie40 · 06/09/2007 17:56

Startbear, I am hoping to lose at least a stone by Christmas and possibly a bit more if I can. I am hoping that joining MN and this thread with like-minded people will give me more motivation to stick to eating healthily and exercising. However this is all very new to me so I am not sure if it was ok just to jump in and join in the first place but I have been reading everyone's comments and so far have avoided the biscuit tin!

Niecie · 06/09/2007 17:59

Is it too late to join in now? I could do with losing a fair bit but anything at all would be very good news and I don't have much willpower to do it alone.

Keltie40 · 06/09/2007 18:00

Whoops apologies for the typo on your name Starbear........

Tottie32 · 06/09/2007 18:11

fimbles- is the paul mckenna cd you have got the pack with 4 different ones in, if so which one do you listen to....

i might dig mine out again,

listen to it one night after getting into bed, fell asleep listening to it and in the morning my dd, siad mum in the night you were shouting 'chips. chips'!!!!

Fimbles5 · 06/09/2007 20:13

Tottie32 - The CD I listen to came with his book "I can make you thin". I have had it for ages and never listened to it until somebody on another thread announced that they had lost 3 stone in 10 months, just by listening to the CD every night. You are not supposed to weigh yourself for two weeks, but I started on Monday evening, and although not sure if I am losing, I feel so much better and healthier in myself and have no desire at all for crisps or biscuits. I know I keep repeating myself but it is really weird how it seems to work.

Tottie32 · 06/09/2007 20:29

that is brillant.....

i really hope it works for you....

i will listen to mine tonight... do you listen at night to yours?

Starbear · 06/09/2007 21:17

Niecie & Keltie40 , Just jump in. I tried to list every ones name the other day but the machine just blew me out. I think people who stick to the thread will get to know each other.
Mummydoit and Fimbles5 I have that Paul Mckenna CD somewhere in the house. I'll dig it out Maybe I'll find it while cleaning the house two birds and all that. I didn't play it before as I was too embarrassed to use it with Dh around, daft really. I don't think men are into these so of things. Unless your Paul Mckenna of course!

isn't it wonderful how many of us are trying to get slimmer! I find the site a great inspiration. Today in the morning my skirt was really loose on me but unfortunately by the evening it's tight! I had no crisps and stuff. breakfast - porriage which I soaked overnight in water, I cooked it for 1 minute with milk and raisins and then drizzled a bit of honey. Lunch - went to Tootsies where i had grilled salmon with the salad, unfortunately they put their dressing on it, more colories but still, I haven't touched a single chip. my drink was tomato juice. Snack - another glass of tomato juice, later - some grapes. Dinner - chilli con carne with tomatoes without rice. Drink - water. What do I do wrong then? My stomack is big again and the skirt is tight.

Niecie · 06/09/2007 23:47

Thanks Starbear - I was thinking of giving Paul McKenna a go too. I have the books but never did anything about them except read them through once and listen to the cd. I might have to persevre with it though as I found Paul McKenna voice a bit grating after a while.

Do we have to give weekly updates on a certain day or anything like that?

Starbear · 07/09/2007 16:56

Niecie On Monday's or near as. Did circuits again at work totally worn out and I can't figure out want to have to night for dinner?!

OP posts:
Starbear · 08/09/2007 20:18

Totally worn out today. Didn't sleep well as my body hurt so much from the week's exercise. DH planned a really naff Saturday which didn't help the diet. AM to Great Aunty Winny and gave us biscuits and cake. She is 86 years old so I have to forgive her and she is lovely Jaffa Cake cakes as we waited for friends, they phoned to say they would be late and instead of having a meal in a restaurant (I was planning on having steamed fish) we had fish and chips. DH has gone out to watch rugby and I think I'll have little lie down Oh and listen to Paul Mckenna. Hope Sunday gets better and I'm going for the real push on Monday.
Hope everyone else is doing better than me

oh thankyou starbear im glad someone is struggling like me i was feeling so sh**e today.
my day yesterday was really bad started good then ended up eating tea cake for lunch and f&c for tea topped off with a jd and coke with biscuits.
I think i might have been ok in points value but it made me wake up thunderous and lethargic.
better day today veggie soup for lunch & chickpea curry for tea

fedda · 08/09/2007 23:04

kidsrus. are you sure WW is good? I'm a bit unsure about all these points value. It sounds as if it's okay to have the 'wrong foods' and it sounds slightly misleading to me. May be I'm a bit fixed on all these wrong food ideas?
