Got back from hols last Saturday and promised I would start weight lose on Monday. Got into work on Tuesday to find a large tin of biscuits on the desk. Not good. Thought I would try Mumsnet for moral support and found out everyone started without me.
I'm 44 years (Jane Fonda where are you now!) 12 stones 5'6 and need to join in with others to lose the flab. Have 3 year old and work part-time 3 days a week, in a Yukky job. Anyone want to join me?
What get advice on losing weight mainly using exrcise as I really love my food
With a little support I might be able to diet too.

Hi BorntoRun - Its nice to hear from someone new? Are you ready to join us?? I did, I lost two stone by Easter, but I am afraid when it came to maintaining I fell off the wagon I am now half a stone over my goal weight and am desperately trying to lose the 7lbs once more. This thread has been absolutely fantastic, I wouldn't have done it without Fedda and kidsrus. They truly offer amazing advice and support.

fedda · 10/08/2008 23:02

Thank you, Fimbles. I'm sure you'll reach your goal, it's only a matter of time. I've lost 7 kg (no idea what's that in pounds or stones) but I gained some of it back (but not all of it so I'm very grateful to this thread). I think the hardest part is to maintain the weight and I don't know about everyone else but my parents and grandparents were very fat so I have something to think about - I can't just have one fix and it's done, it's an ongoing programme for me. I don't follow any famous programmes although I'm sure they can work for some people. For me what works is snacking on fruit and veg and having a moderate amount of water. In winter I have soups often. I can leave without crisps easily but I get tempted if they are about so in Summer when my kids aren't at school it's harder to resist ice cream, crisps and biscits. I'm trying to be good though and reading the other posts really helps.

BorntoRun · 11/08/2008 11:40

Would love to join although seriously lack commitment! Am bit of a gym feak so exercise no problem, not too bothered about food but it's the vino that is my downfall, struggling with my last 7/10lbs.

fedda · 11/08/2008 14:06

I like your name, BorntoRun. It will be wonderful to have you on this thread. I actually luck in excisise although in the past I've borrowed a lot of videos from my library and tried to follow getting out of breath in 15 minutes if not before. Every input counts and we all have our downfalls so please do join us, BorntoRun.

BorntoRun · 11/08/2008 15:02

Aww Fedda, how could I refuse such a lovely invite, so i guess I'm in! Started today well, was at gym at 8.45 ha ha, but have blown it with a cheese toastie and a share of chips for lunch, ooops.

fedda · 11/08/2008 19:03

I had cheeses toasty as well and I wasn't in the gym so please, don't worry, BorntoRun. I'm so glad you decided to join this thread. I've been out with my kids - we went to the library and coffee shop and then we were walking and I hope the toasty was well and trully deserved as we walked after it. Well, now I'm sitting in front of the computer. I need to get up and go up and down and may be even my usual dancing (I say usual - I used to dance every evening instead of exersising - just put my favourite CD on and dance when everyone was in bed - around 10:30). May be I should go back to it, it was fun, I don't know why I've stopped it. Many people say dancing is as good and it's easier. Anyway, let's hope we'll achieve our goals and maintain our weight (I found the later much harder).

Fimbles5 · 11/08/2008 20:42

Welcome BorntoRun and congratulations on being at the gym by 8.45. My children were still in their jimjams at 9.00 (asking for a duvet day!!), so there was no way I could make it to the gym by that time. Eaten really badly today, so have just been out on treadmill for 30mins in the hope this will make up for some of what I have eaten. Somebody help me find the willpower this holiday to avoid the biscuit tin and the crisp cupboard. Fedda - You always make me smile with your dancing, you sound so happy, and I can picture you dancing round at 10.30 when everyone is in bed and everywhere is quiet. (Thats what you call me time!, only problem is I am normally shattered by 10pm otherwise I would join you) Keep it up!

BorntoRun · 12/08/2008 06:27

Hi Fimbles, thanks for the welcome. My lot range from 9-16 so it's easier for me to duck out to the gym (although they were all still in pjs when I got back!). I've got a treadmill too at home which I love. But how's this for typical me, ended up going for curry last night, was shaslick though so no sauce, but had not only beer but wine, so off to the gym again this morning!

fedda · 12/08/2008 14:40

Hi, Fimbles and BorntoRun. I've written my message in the thread yesterday but I've lost my connection so I'm afraid my message has vanished. Has it happened to you? It's so annoying, isn't it? Anyway, I didn't manage to dance yesterday as I really fancied a cup of tea at 10:30 and I had carrots sticks instead of biscits with it but then I didn't feel like dancing (sorry), I want to try tonight though. Who is going to join me? it's okay if you dance earlier, I just wake up ar around 10pm when everybody is sleeping and it's my time - it's when no one says - Mum. hungry, thirsty, I want yougurt or whatever else comes into their minds - it's MY TIME! Well, don't ask me how I look first thing in the morning! In the night though I can easily stay up to 1 am (well, I don't do it as I get up around 8 if not before so I have to sensible (sometimes).

wuzzlefraggle · 12/08/2008 22:50

Hi fedda and the rest of the thread

PLEEEASE can I join? I have been advised by Fimbles (thankyou!!) that this is the place to be and could really use the extra support with loosing weight (about a stone - stone and a half in all I think)...

How does it work with this thread then? (when are weigh ins etc)

fedda · 13/08/2008 08:12

Hi, wuzzlefraggle, welcome to the thread. How it works is that we are very flexible and all we are trying to do is to support each other which works better than any rule, I think. You weigh yourself when you feel is right for you - there is a theory that you should weight yourself only once a week or even once in two weeks but also some people feel that you can weight yourself every day because you make an effort each time thinking that you'll be weighing yourself later. I think it's up to you and I went from the stage weighing myself every morning and evening to weighing when I remember about it which is around every other day or less. When I'm away I weigh myself when I come back so it can be in 10 days so you can see it's really up to you. To me I found what works is healthy eating with medium filled plates rather then big plates and second helpings I was used to. I do snack as I find it hard no to but I tend to snack on fruit and veg. I have good days and bad days and this thread helps me because I find a lot of kind understanding and support here. It will be wonderful to have you join us as this thread is my favourite (sorry, I keep saying this but that's how I feel). I've been on other threads and sometimes I felt out of place but here I feel at home with my best internet friends.

Fimbles5 · 13/08/2008 08:22

Hi Wuzzle - Told you Fedda would be around to support. Glad to see you have joined us and Good Luck

wuzzlefraggle · 13/08/2008 09:30

Thank you for such a lovely welcome Fedda

Hi Fimbles!

Well so far so good today lol (yes, I know it's only 9:30 lol). I shall report in later when I get back (off to grandparents for the day).

fedda · 13/08/2008 10:00

Hi, Fimbles5, thank you so much for your kind words about me, you give me a lot of support yourself . Have a lovely time, wuzzlefraggle.

BornToRun · 13/08/2008 19:30

So, my food consumption today went something like this - sausage roll for breakfast on way to hospital, 2 x cheese on toast for lunch, almond slice! Told you I don't help myself. Really bad news is have to have shoulder op soon and recovery could be anything between 2 weeks and 4 months depending on what they find, how the heck can I not get fat during that time!!!

wuzzlefraggle · 13/08/2008 20:15

Oh dear borntorun, I hope all is ok with your shoulder!

Do you base your food intake on calorie counting? (hi btw lol)

Well, today I had 2 satsuma's, a small lean piece of pork (no fat etc)with a small portion of vegetables, 2 pieces of toast and a brioshe. I admit, I did pinch about 6 chips (but they smelt gooooood!) . Nowt else for me tonight tho - I'm trying not to eat after 6:30. If the urge to snack hits, then I just have an ice lolly (tip top type thing).

How's everyone else?

wuzzlefraggle · 13/08/2008 20:47

ooops, nearly forgot - managed to get in about 15 mins exercise too

fedda · 13/08/2008 20:50

Food wise - no good today I'm afraid - 2 white bread toasts with butter and a cup of tea for breakfast, cheeses and ham toasty made with white bread and butter for lunch with coffee (I'm afraid sugar with tea, sugar with coffee), ready made salmon slice with ready made fish cakes and chips for dinner and coffee with cashews. Terrible diet! You can tell I was extremely lazy today and stayed at home apart from going to the nearest shop to get the nuts (feel like a nut case myself). Anyway, I must do better tomorrow. Sorry, not a very positive message. I hope you'll forgive me, girls.

wuzzlefraggle · 14/08/2008 08:58

Don't get yourself down to hard fedda. We all have our bad days with dieting. There is so much temptation that sometimes it is almost impossible to resist xx Damn brioshe lol.

Hope that everyone is doing well today I'm off to my sister in laws for the day. I made a pasta bake (last night for our lunch today, of which I will only have a small portion (I believe in a LITTLE of what you fancy) and will resist the garlic bread at all costs! lol I'm a bit nervous though because I am a bugger for pasta :/ MUST BE STRONG!

Fimbles5 · 14/08/2008 13:05

Having trouble resisting temptation today. Had a good breakfast but am off on holiday, so lunch consisted on finishing off any opened packets, crackers, cheese etc. so not too good. I vow to try my best to be good whilst I am away and I hope you will all do the same. Will be back bank holiday Monday and will be checking in to hear all about your weight losses for the week. Have fun and stay out of trouble!!

fedda · 14/08/2008 18:57

Have fun as well, Fimbles and stay out of trouble, sometimes it's harder to stay out of trouble on holidays as not everywhere you can get healthy food but in many places - convinience foods. i hope everything will be nice for you but if you have any problems with the choices you'll soon be back to put it right . thank you for your support and understanding, wuzzlefraggle. Have a lovely day.

wuzzlefraggle · 14/08/2008 19:01

Have a lovely holiday fimbles! (where are you off to btw?) lol

I was CRAP at resisting temptation too...I had a good sized plate of pasta bake followed by seconds about 3 hours later Damnit! Pasta I am an absolute swine for!! BUT I suppose that the bright side is that it wasn't a creamy/cheese based sauce or anything (spicy tomotoey type sauce) and did have loads of vegies in it. But still...

I'll do my weigh in on every sunday

fedda · 14/08/2008 22:12

Your home made past bake sounds fantastic, wuzzlefraggle! I wasn't good today either, the only good things were poridge with honey and grapes and snacking on grapes, the rest I should leave out - well, should have left out but I jjust don't think I should mention it on this thread espessially after all the kind words Fimbles told about me. I'll try better tomorrow. I don't know what came over me theses days eating all this cxxx. Anyway, good night everyone who is going to sleep, I'm off to watch TV.

wuzzlefraggle · 14/08/2008 22:47

Fedda, you feel free to talk and tell about whatever you want to Thats all part and parcel of this dieting malarky! Ups and downs. Today is a fresh new day though

xx I'm off to read lol. Just finished a book called Size Matters by Judy Astley, which - being on a diet and all - was brilliant. I recommend (it really is good and as we are dieting on this thread, it relates loads to the ups and downs etc with a sense of humor and a good story)

fedda · 15/08/2008 08:51

Thank you, wuzzlefraggle. I'll be looking for the book you're recommending. xx
