Lose in December ...

BustedDreams · 25/11/2019 09:28

Yes really, you CAN

This thread is carrying on from the previous threads. This is November’s Thread.

Same as previous threads, I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates or maintaining. We need to create our own eating plan that is sustainable, enjoyable and provides all the nutrients we need to be healthy. It isn’t about extremes.

These threads are becoming quite holistic in nature and offer support to enable everyone to build & maintain emotional resilience and good mental health which underpins healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle.

That said, we mustn’t forget we are human and with that comes fallibility ..... It’s at those times the support on these threads is second to none. The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome

With planning and self care we can enjoy ourselves as well as maintain or even lose in December. I think we all agree that the main thing is to enjoy the festivities 🥳 without beating ourselves up if we end up throwing caution to the wind.

I did not weigh myself this morning Crown Blush

fallfallfall · 26/12/2019 16:49

Steak the night before (the rock salt always has me retaining water) and yesterday’s big turkey (stuffing I really like stuffing) has me avoiding the scale this morning. BUT I’m still in the running for the perfect month and the December challenge!

SunshineCake · 26/12/2019 19:14

I did weigh myself and I was up again but I'm also on my second period of the month Sad.

Galvantula · 26/12/2019 19:33

Ugh sunshine no fun. Just realised mine is due this weekend. 😒

I wondered why I was so hungry today. Some chocolate coins may have been hoovered up, as well as some home baking. This is why baking is a bad idea if you've no one to give it away to 😅

fallfallfall · 26/12/2019 20:15

sunshine, galvantula I’ll let you know, none of this with menopause...no periods no cravings...just saying

SunshineCake · 26/12/2019 22:30

I am going through the menopause and how does that comment help Confused . I can't make it end.

fallfallfall · 27/12/2019 00:03

Soon sunshine soon, one of these periods will be your last and the hormonal eating cravings will end.

SunshineCake · 27/12/2019 08:02

I'm sorry if I was rude, fallfallfall. I didn't get what you were saying. My blood tests have come back normal but I don't know if that means I'm menopausal or not as that is normal. Nurse said just because my periods have been regular it doesn't mean they always will be however I've had a few hot flushes, brain fog, anxiety as well as late periods and the odd extra so I am assuming I am. I don't feel I am having any cravings. Just struggling as bored with my limited diet. Last night I was very upset with dh so I did a few minutes on the exercise bike to try and get rid of my mood.

BustedDreams · 27/12/2019 10:17

@DownUdderer 5lbs loss for December is fanbloodytastic! Well done! 🌟🏅🌟

@Galvantula here’s hoping your children are feeling better!

@SunshineCake bless ya’. You’ve had a bumpy few months. I hope 2020 proves better for you. I think @fallfallfall meant that once a person is post menopause you don’t get the cravings or hormonal fluctuations that mess with appetite and weight. My own situation post menopause is much more settled.

Anyone up for January 2020 thread?

I’d love you to join me Grin

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 27/12/2019 12:31

Yes, I’m referring to after, once you’ve passed the 12 months without periods stage :).
busted I’ll be needing a hand hold for 2020. I’d love if the thread continued. I need to loose 15+ lbs to reach the healthy BMI zone.

BustedDreams · 27/12/2019 16:53

@fallfallfall Welcome dear friend. Yes, that reminds me, I need to work out the loss needed to reach my BMI goal. I most definitely have put a little on Blush . This I put down to eating chocolate, trifle and crisps. I regret nothing Grin

TBH it’s been partly comfort eating as had a house full of poorly guests. I’ve nursed, dispensed medicines, cleaned, changed sheets etc. Blummin flu virus 🤧 Myself had the flu jab a few weeks back. So pleased I did.

Hello all, just checking in. I have gained about 2lbs in the week Blush but we've had a wonderful time at home. It hasn't been perfect. DS still poorly but on the up and dramas outside last night involving calling the police and stuff Confused and also my period, so overall... I will be back to normal on 6/1 when they return to school and get cracking.

(((hugs))) to all especially @SunshineCake 2 periods in one month is awful - I've been there!

DownUdderer · 28/12/2019 00:22

We’re sat on the beach, I think I’ll get in the water in a minute. I had quite a lot of off plan food yesterday, but I’ll try and be more thoughtful today.

BustedDreams · 28/12/2019 08:59

Bless ya’ @MrsJonesAndMe, life sucks sometimes. Hope you’re ok! (I think I’ve replied on the other thread too).

@DownUdderer sounds simply lovely. In regards to food, it happens and it is Christmas Grin Beach & sea, sounds great, Enjoy!

I’m using the last 4 days of the decade to detox and reset in readiness for the fresh start in January. Yesterday I was pleased with myself as it was the 1st day since Christmas Eve I didn’t eat chocolate. Last night I mentioned to oh about disposing (in bin) of all remains chocolate in the house. The unopened boxes/tins will be given away. He said when he’s feeling better he will ‘help me’ eat it up. No No No. I need to abstain in the short term until I’m back in equilibrium.

Todays menu is Vegetable Frittata for lunch and medley of roasted veg and fish for dinner. Upping water as it’s been on the low side. Walk planned after lunch.

@MrsJonesAndMe only answer if you want of course but were you going through the menopause when you had two periods in a month and knew it was nothing to worry about? I know I have a fibroid and sometimes random bleeding.

MrsJonesAndMe · 28/12/2019 18:28

I bloody hope not @SunshineCake I'm only (just) 38 and DD just started her periods this year - I don't think I can cope with her teenage years and my meno at the same time Shock But my period has been bad for a few years and the GP thinks it may be linked to the thyroid - think busted also mentioned it to you as a possible reason... Certainly hoping the thyroid meds and better eating will help regulate things.

PS phoning the police was for a neighbours Grandaughter who's BF was screaming in her face - she's just had a baby and no one (her family or other neighbours) came out! I shouted at him that I was ringing them and that made him take off in his car horrible but thankfully nothing to do with me really...

Oh the willpower to detox @BustedDreams bloody well done. I think I may well have eaten my body weight in chocolate, crisps, biscuits and other crap! Blush

SunshineCake · 28/12/2019 22:42

@MrsJonesAndMe I'm 47 and my middle child is a girl and 16..

I've been told I'm peri then I'm not then it's started earlier than expected and then my blood results are normal. No clue what is going on. Feel I'm getting PMT again having felt it had been taken over by other things for a while.

I hate not understanding what is happening to my own body while also dealing with emotional and mental difficulties. Or is emotional and mental the same Confused.

DownUdderer · 29/12/2019 04:41

I had a lovely on plan day yesterday, scrambled eggs for lunch, that's always a lovely filling meal. I'm drinking plenty of water.

BustedDreams · 29/12/2019 10:13

@MrsJonesAndMe pleased you’re ok, sorry to hear about the new mum being abused in the street! My detox is my own version. Basically cutting carbs, sugar & dairy. Been having plenty of water, soups, eggs, fish, veg and fruit. Will be having dairy new year though as doing buffet (which includes cheese Grin )

@SunshineCake sorry to hear you’re still struggling. Emotional health and mental health differ but are linked. Emotional health is how you feel & respond to stuff and express your feelings. Some people for example can remain calm in a crisis. Others lose it.

Mental health refers to your ability to process the information.

So for example something that annoys one person might not annoy another because they respond differently. Some people get really upset about ‘that car is parked outside my house’, other view it as cars can park where they want if legally parked iyswim.

@DownUdderer it’s a great feeling when you stay on track! It’s like when you don’t give into your evening cravings and the next morning (when the craving has vanished) you feel svelte and virtuous. Grin

hello, my exercise routine is going well. i earned the december challenge award and hope to earn the perfect month one as well.
food choices are not dreadful for the holiday season but: dh has taken to adding honey to my lemon water...which tastes so yummy but really stalls any weight loss attempts.
then the big culprit the past few days is salt. my wedding band is tight from seasoning salt i knew there would be some in the stuffing, then we had french onion soup, and last night a pork tenderloin that i braised after rubbing the seasoning salt in.
i'll still post a weight loss for the month BUT it won't be a good reflection of the work i put in :(.

BustedDreams · 29/12/2019 21:41

@fallfallfall congratulations on achieving your challenge 🏅🌟. The commitment and dedication you show is inspiring!

Thank you @BustedDreams for the explanation of the difference between emotional and mental health. It is very interesting and definitely something for me to look into.

Well done fall. Are you going to tell your dh to stop with the honey ?

Tonight dh and I had trifle liqueur. Delicious but I dread to think what the calories are.

BustedDreams · 30/12/2019 08:48

@SunshineCake that trifle sounds delish!

Today’s menu is butternut squash soup, strawberries for lunch and oven baked fish and veg later. Walking the dog lunch after lunch. Plenty of water. White tea.

Right ladies, last 2 days of the decade! Make them count, get ahead, embrace change Grin

Have a great day and whatever you do, do it with gusto!

sunshine I’m so weak when it comes to sugary treats. I’ll blurt it out at an appropriate time. He’s just served me lunch and was conscientious to use a smaller bowl, and a wedge of lemon in my tea.

DownUdderer · 31/12/2019 01:13

I’m trying to be mindful of what I eat today. I think I need to eat up some salmon for lunch.
