Hiya everyone new thread as Bran pointed out that this was getting a little long. Welcome to our new home.

Thanks for cheering me up re the 1/2lb. I think the LL diet raises your expectations so that losing 3-4lbs a week seems normal so when you don't it is very disheartening!

Champs and jnbsmum - on my 40th birthday (only 4.25 months ago I was wearing size 22 clothes) I could have only dreamed of being in a size 14 clothes then...

You are both doing sooooo well and you will get there too. Sometimes your wave just comes in... Lets hope for all of us that this time its the wave that takes us all the way to the shore

Good luck to everyone for this week - you know reading this thread is so uplifting 'cos everyone is so motivated to do well and so positive

I think I'm doing something wrong - have lost loads of weight, but don't seem to be getting into a smaller size unles it's very stretchy! At least before, things used to fit ok, even if they were large size, now I'm just such a different size in different places that nothing fits properly. Why is it that if I ever gain any it always goes on my bum/hips first, but that's the last place it goes (nearly 5 stone down and I still haven't lost a single inch there)? Why doesn't the principle of LIFO (Last in first out) work with dieting?

roisin · 11/11/2004 10:37

I find my sizes change in fits and starts Lunarsea. I lost a load of weight earlier in the year, but have actually only lost a couple of pounds in the last 4 months, but have been going to the gym loads, and have changed shape a lot. My legs and bum and waist are much slimmer, even though I haven't technically lost any weight. Bust has almost completely disappeared too though ... aaarrrgghhh!

monkeygirl · 11/11/2004 11:06

Glitterfairy - thin is such an ugly word I think and no more a better shape. Slimmer is slightly better but think fitter and healthier and you are probably already on your way to that by the sounds of it.

Soapbox - you are losing a dress size a month - am very . Weight -loss is bound to slow when you are slimmer cos your body starts to need less calories.

LunarSea - you MUST have lost inches somewhere if you have lost 5 stones!! Don't focus on the bits you haven't whittled down yet - it will come off. Maybe you just need to tighten it up a bit there - agree that when I used to go to the gym my shape changed quite dramatically even though I hardly lost any weight.

JNBsmum - glad you've feeling better - so am I so far this week and hope this time to not ruin my good work again at the weekend, as I always do.

Champs - yes, I just don't understand that 'sales' mentality at all but then being good with money never was my strong point. BTW, was is wrong with a diet coke? I know it's not exactly a health food but if it helps you at this stage, then what the heck (said she who is addicted to diet de-caff cokes )!

Bran - only lost 1lb - huh - wish I could say that . It's still one less pound to lose so don't beat yourself up (and you did have quite a good excuse!)

LunarSea · 11/11/2004 12:03

Monkeygirl - yep, I've lost loads from places which don't really show so much - my arms for example (even supposedly clingy things hang off me now), face, legs, feet, hands - even loads from my waist, but nothing from hips/bum or bust. I sem to be getting more and more hourglass shaped as my waist keeps shrinking and bits above and below don't. On standard measurements my hips are now three sizes larger than my waist!

The funny thing is the South Beach book does say you'll lose it from the waist first - I just didn't expect that effect to last this long, or be this dramatic.

bran · 11/11/2004 13:11

Isn't funny Lunarsea, I've lost 19 lb and my waist size has hardly changed at all, but my hips and legs and bum (which were already proportionally to small for my waist) have reduced rapidly. I'm still wearing the same size clothes that I was when I started dieting, because my tummy won't fit into next size down, but even the stretch trousers look a bit like clown trousers flapping around my hips. I measured my waist and hips about 3 weeks ago and my hips were only 1.5 inches bigger than my waist. I'd rather be like you as I was quite hour-glassy when I was younger and it looked pretty good, I think skinny legs and a big tummy look really unbalanced, like a man with a beer belly .

Glitterfairy, I couldn't convince myself that I didn't like chocolate either, but by practising it in the mirror and trying to look convincing I've managed to make other people believe it. It's much easier to resist if they only offer chocolate once and then think I don't want it, as opposed to when they think I do want it but won't let myself and offer it again and again.

Wow, there are some really inspiring weight losses on here. Getting down to a size 14 would be brill and a loss of 5 stones would take me to 1 stone off my target weight. This thread is so inspiring because people are really doing these things .

jnbsmum · 11/11/2004 22:35

Just a little something to lift everyones spirits(sorry if you've already seen it)
A WOMAN'S (REAL) PRAYER:

Now I lay me
Down to sleep.
I pray the Lord
My shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles
Please no bags
And please lift my butt
Before it sags.
Please no age spots
Please no gray
And as for my belly,
Please take it away.
Please keep me healthy
Please keep me young,
And thank you Dear Lord
For all that you've done.

Five tips for a woman....

  1. It is important that a man helps you around the house and has a job.
  2. It is important that a man makes you laugh.
  3. It is important to find a man you can count on and doesn't lie to you.
  4. It is important that a man loves you and spoils you.
  5. It is important that these four men don't know each other.

Foot Note:
One saggy boob said to the other saggy boob: "If we don't get some
support soon, people will think we're nuts."

champs · 12/11/2004 14:46

hi all!!. just a quick post as am off to sch run.
ty for all the lovely posts.
glitter-- i thimk thats the prob with me i think in thiness and fatness when i should be concentrating on fitness and healthyness.
monkeygirl--- I gave up caffeine when i gave up choc but have lapsde a little and drank diet coke.
for all you fighting the choc enemy, the only way i could beat it was to give it up for good no choc whatsoever. I buckled a little at first as i do believe i was addicted to it. I gave up before some years ago but i statred again so i knes that if i was to succeed i had to give up alltogether. i see all these new chocs and think "i would have had that one" it is very strange. after a couple of weeks of giving up it taSTED very sweet, a month in it tasted tooo sweet and i tasted plain choc and liked it (after hating it for years) then a couple of months and it tasted disgusting. now I dont even want to taste it. At first i kept forgetting i didn't eat it and would go to buy some. or like the time i cut a slice of cho cake and nearly gagged. I have beety and glitter to thank for it and of course my dentist.

Jennisaurus · 12/11/2004 17:03

jnbsmum .

champs · 12/11/2004 23:55

hi jenni!! so glad to 'see' you. 3 stones!! wow you have been working hard, well done.

Jennisaurus · 13/11/2004 16:34

We have a similar goal Dior! I was 14 stones when I started and now I am 11 stones, and I want to be about 9 stone.

I am not really following a program, its more weight watchers than anything else though. Lots of fruit and veg, no snacking that sort of thing. I don;t eat much dairy at all, but thats not just for weightloss reasons.
I do about an hours aerobics a week and I have quite a physical job so I think that helps.

½ a pound off of 3 stone. Yay, I lost 5½lb this week. I would never have thought I could loose so much weight in just 7 weeks. I went clothes shopping yesterday brought a few size 16 trousers from next. Didn't try on cause the changing rooms were paked. I also brought a pair of size 14 combats to get into in a few weeks. Guess what all the size 16's have gone back today way to big on me. That was an excellent feeling
