Lose in November

Following on from the previous monthly loss threads, here’s November’s thread. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates or maintaining. We need to create our own eating plan that is sustainable, enjoyable and provides all the nutrients we need to be healthy. It isn’t about extremes.

These threads are becoming quite holistic in nature and offer support to enable everyone to build & maintain emotional resilience and good mental health which undoubtedly underpins healthy eating habits and lifestyle. That said, we mustn’t forget we are human and with that comes fallibility ..... It’s at those times the support on these threads is second to none. The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

Hello, can I join? You all seem very nice!

Been working in my weight in fits and starts since September 18. I’m 5’4” and 44. Started at 194lbs, now at 155lbs. It’s been a mix of 16:8, healthy food choices/portions, running and recently yoga.

Had a real push in September and lost 1/2 stone. But got a bit side tracked in October so only lost 1lb (chips and dips). Want to lose 4lbs in November. Aiming for 130ish sometime in 2020.

Good luck!

Hi can I join you too please Smile

Weigh in today 11st 6lbs at 5'4". Would love 10lbs off in November however I think just looking after myself and eating well would be a start. I flit about between being a gym lover/healthy eater to comfort eating/napping. I'm peri-menopausal too which is having a massive impact on my ability to gain weight easily!

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 11:15

Welcome @Chantarant, jump right in. I agree peri menopause & post menopause disrupts normal levels and therefore affects appetite, motivation to move and ability to burn fat. Sucks really but we need to take charge and do the best we can for ourselves under these circumstances. Easier said than done I know! I for one struggle to move more but try my best every day.

Can I join please. I've gained a lot of weight recently after some very stressful life events and am looking forward to a happier, healthier 2020

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 11:24

Of course you can @Mollpop. If you invest in yourself now you’ll reap the benefits in the future. It’s all about self care and respecting yourself without being punitive and depriving yourself. Baby steps will get you there. What are you planning on changing? How do you intend to do this?

MrsJonesAndMe · 30/10/2019 12:45

Hello to new and "old" faces

We are away 1st and 2nd, but when I'm back on 3rd, I will:
get on the scales
go back to:

  • IF with 8 hour eating window
  • low gluten
  • 5 a day
  • daily yoga
  • medicine taking including a Vit D now the sun has all but disappeared.

I'm back to a healthy BMI but I really need to cement some healthier habits going forwards.

AreYouSiriusLupin · 30/10/2019 13:12

Thanks for the welcome BustedDreams Smile I am 34. I have diagnosed depression which I have had for most of my adult life (on and off) but I have always had a somewhat bad approach to food. When younger, I would eat badly but was very slim. I began to put on weight mid 20s and this continued after having children. I do not treat my body right- I am really looking into self care at the moment, and realise that the crap I eat just is not helping at all.

I am struggling already today, but I have dinner sorted and keeping drinking lots of water. Have been for a short walk and going out again later. I find that walking helps with my mental health but I just don't do it enough.

Mollpop · 30/10/2019 13:19

Thank you @BustedDreams

I'm going to start swimming again, I used to love it but haven't been for ages. I'll start slowly, but I know I'll enjoy it if I make the effort to go 🙂. Also more healthy choices with food. Not deprivi6 myself just making healthier choices. I'm feeling inspired so fingers crossed 🤞

Chantarant · 30/10/2019 13:29

Thanks, I'll read those links on menopause.
I'm going to try to get my head around practising daily self-care. I can be so punitive and negative when I'm not feeling good in myself!!

buzzofthebumblebee · 30/10/2019 15:33

Thanks for all the links busted, especially the one on emotional eating. All so true. Hard work to commit to breaking the cycle. After two very good days, I lost the willpower last night. Amazing that the short-term buzz from the food & alcohol is so out-weighed by the longer-term annoyance at myself.

But fresh start today. Had egg and spinach on seeded toast. Chomped on raw carrots as snack. And just made big batch butternut squash soup, so had some for lunch.

Feel for you @AreYouSiriusLupin - I've been there too. Still am to be totally honest. It takes a lot of effort to dig deep, take control, and invest in yourself. Easier to think F-it, and revert back to bad habits. Please be kind to yourself. You can do it. Take it very slowly - one chunk of the day at a time. Positive thoughts. Well done for getting out for a walk - gorgeous day isn't it?

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 16:24

@MrsJonesAndMe short holiday? Work related? Hope you can enjoy the facilities wherever you are.

@AreYouSiriusLupin baby steps. Do you have rl support via friends/family/gp? Self care is important but also is accepting/accessing appropriate support. Well done on starting on your self care.

@Mollpop sounds like a good plan!

@Chantarant & @buzzofthebumblebee you are both welcome 🙏

Checking in. Actual intake not bad today but it's felt really hard. Urgh. Going to need to keep busy this evening! Cooking loads of extra veg with supper so I will at least physically be full...

MrsJonesAndMe · 30/10/2019 18:29

No such luck really @BustedDreams Just an over nighter to do some stuff with the children. At this stage I wish I hadn't bothered as DS is so ungrateful Angry Sad

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 19:26

@FlatheadScrewdriver it will get easier especially if you’ve cut carbs down and remove sugars. Keep going.

@MrsJonesAndMe they can get you like that, children just don’t get it sometimes. Hope it all turns out ok.

Kitchen cleaned & now closed. Stuck to plan with 2 meals and an eating window 12:15 - 18:30. Early night tonight as I’m shattered. It’s been a busy time of late.

DownUdderer · 31/10/2019 01:37

I’m checking in! Hello to everyone who had newly joined this lovely thread, hello to the people from the Oct thread!

I have got rid of 8lbs in October and if I had not written it down I would not believe it. A slow and steady loss can make me feel frustrated sometimes especially if I hit a plateau, but, it all adds up. I’m 11st 1 and I feel so close to being in the 10st bracket! I’m excited!

I do 16:8 and I find it a natural habit after doing it for about 6 weeks. I try and stay low carb as it means I feel hungry less.

I have a few pieces of clothing that I try on every once in a while to see when I can wear them again! One dress is back in rotation! It’s a great feeling.

DownUdderer · 31/10/2019 01:38

If I get hunger pangs I drink a glass of water.

I’m in Australia, so I sometimes look like I’m posting at funny times of the day!

BustedDreams · 31/10/2019 08:04

Happy Halloween 👻 🎃

This is it it. The last day of the month. This month has absolutely flown by. Roasted veg and mixed bean soup for lunch, COD and veg for evening meal. Going for my little walk again too.

@DownUdderer waves to the other side of the world 🌍, that is a fantastic loss! I also if and I agree it becomes second nature as does eating 2 meals a day. I never feel like breakfast. I just can’t face it as it makes me feel nauseous. I also low carb but not keto as that’s too low for me. I rarely have sugar or alcohol. I really don’t miss either. Saying that I made salted caramel toffee yesterday (gift for friend) and I did try one. Just to check it was gift worthy Grin

buzzofthebumblebee · 31/10/2019 11:30

That is an amazing Oct loss @DownUdderer well done. Very inspirational too. I'm feeling a bit blurgh mood-wise, despite having just been out for a lovely autumnal walk with hound.

But I took a sneak peak on the scales in advance of WI tmw, I am pleased to report I am already 2lbs down since monday, so will start tomorrow in the 12s as opposed to 13s.

Initial 2 weeks of weight loss is usually fine, I shift about 7 lbs, but then something happens upsets me and I eat, self sabotage, and then give up. Determined to not let that happen this time, and to dig deep for the will power.

Just had 2 eggs, broccoli and 1 slice seeded toast. Yum. Lunch will be veg soup - no extra carbs. Dinner tbc. Have a good day everyone.

kelper · 31/10/2019 13:44

Can I join please?
I start a new job on monday, finished my old job earlier this week, which was horrid, 12 hour night or day shifts, with no pattern to them :(
I went to buy new trousers for my new job today, bought a size 14 (I never try stuff on in shops) had to go back and buy a size 16 :( I'm gutted.
I weigh 84kg.
My goal is to be below 80kg!!

AreYouSiriusLupin · 31/10/2019 16:21

Just checking in. I managed to stick to my calorie goals (1400) yesterday and went for a couple of walks. Today I'm feeling a bit down and very tired. I will have gone slightly over my calories with my evening meal but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. Going to get on to the cross trainer tonight and have a nice hot bath.

Kelper I have recently stopped working nights- it was dreadful for my mental health and diet. I would eat crap due to being so tired! I hope your new job goes
