Following on from the previous monthly loss threads, here’s November’s thread. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates or maintaining. We need to create our own eating plan that is sustainable, enjoyable and provides all the nutrients we need to be healthy. It isn’t about extremes.

These threads are becoming quite holistic in nature and offer support to enable everyone to build & maintain emotional resilience and good mental health which undoubtedly underpins healthy eating habits and lifestyle. That said, we mustn’t forget we are human and with that comes fallibility ..... It’s at those times the support on these threads is second to none. The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

Thank you for the warm welcome, and for saying that I can do it busted Grin I am loving your positivity need to work on that myself.

I know exactly what works for me - no wine, v low carbs, v low sugar, no snacking, good fats, plenty of protein, and lots and lots of yummy veg, smaller portion sizes.

I just need to get into the right mindset. Plenty of work needed in that department too Wink - but determined to adopt a positive attitude & improve self love as well as a healthy diet in my weight loss journey.

Foreverlexicon · 28/10/2019 18:09

I’m struggling a bit today and feeling a bit down. I can’t get in the right mindset but my uniform is uncomfortable and I’m sick of feeling fat.

BustedDreams · 28/10/2019 18:15

@Foreverlexicon a big hug lovie. Bad days suck and when you’re in the thick of it it is easy to think f* it and eat your feelings until you feel uncomfortable. If you’re not working tonight (I suspect you are working tonight as you’ve mentioned uniform) have a bath, early night and try and pack in some zzzzzs. If working tonight, try to get extra tomorrow when you get home.

You are very welcome @buzzofthebumblebee. This thread covers the good and the not so good of trying to eat healthy. It’s a safe place to share if you feel a wobble coming. Usually disasters can be averted.

@MrsJonesAndMe good tip about closing eating window after x hours. That approach is more flexible than say eat 12:00 - 20:00 or 08:00 - 16:00 etc.

BlueEyedFloozy · 28/10/2019 18:28

@Foreverlexicon - snap! My clothes are what's making me feel like shit just now but I just can't keep the motivation up.

Instead of looking at it as a huge chunk I'm trying to break it down into small steps. My first step is to have healthier meals - smaller portions and more veg.

I can work on snacking and exercise later on, I need to focus on one step at a time. I want results NOW but I know that the quick fix isn't necessarily the long lasting one!

Last summer I reached my target weight at Slimming World having lost 7st over 2 years. 15 months on I'm 3st up again because I couldn't sustain it and lost faith in myself and the plan. Little steps help you maintain a healthy lifestyle that works for you so keep chipping away 😊

Foreverlexicon · 29/10/2019 02:45

I think what I’m struggling with is that I just don’t know how to eat on my shifts.

I work 2 x 07:00-16:00/17:00 so that’s fine
Then 2 x 14:00-23:00 or 17:00-03:00
Then 2 x 21:00-07:00

I’m rubbish at lie ins so before half nights or full nights I need to get up really early like 5am so then I sleep a few hours in the afternoon.

Meal breaks are sporadic and sometimes don’t happen and I’m finding it difficult to get in a routine foodwise.

To complicate it more, at least once a set I’m off 2-3 hours late, then after earlies/nights, I still need to go sort the horse and sometimes ride so by the time I get home, I’m hungry again so I could end up eating 4 proper meals.

I think I’m just going to go back to using products plus 1 meal and 1 fruit snack a day for a while. I have products to use up and it takes thinking out of the equation for a while. But equally I don’t want to hurt my brain again now I’m doing okay 😕

:) placemarking for the first!

BustedDreams · 29/10/2019 06:57

Good Morning

@Foreverlexicon your working pattern is very difficult for you to develop a regular routine. No wonder you struggle. Throw being sleep deprived into the mix too and that makes it more difficult. I wish I had some suggestions for you. Ive worked a few nights myself in my day and they used to kill me. They threw my circadian rhythms right out of whack. I’d be jet lagged for days after. Considering your circumstances I think you do great! I agree you need to do what makes it easier for you and if that includes using products (do you mean shakes and bars and stuff) so be it. Hope you get your zzzzzs in today after your shift.

Waves at @fallfallfall 👋

OP posts:
Foreverlexicon · 29/10/2019 07:58

@BustedDreams thankfully I don’t need much sleep and I do sleep pretty well as a rule so that’s one thing.

Yeah I still have some shakes/bars left so I’m wondering about doing a few weeks with them to kick start again. Then maybe meal planning with some loose calorie counting but looking at my days per 24 hours rather than between when I get a proper sleep? So the calorie clock resets at midnight regardless of when I actually get up 🤔 calorie counting might be quite helpful to help me figure out a routine to go forward with too actually as I frequently feel guilty for what I eat on ‘changeover’ days as I feel like I eat an extra meal.

It’s definitely time to do something though as I’m really not happy at this size and I think I can be back in my comfort zone by Christmas if I actually put some effort in! I’ve briefed the girlfriend so apart from a cheese fondue on Halloween, we’re going on a mutual health kick which will help.

BustedDreams · 29/10/2019 13:38

This might be of interest. It’s about what changes you can expect if you stop eating sugar or sugary/high carb foods.

Afternoon all, how's today been? I've been pretty good - hoping I can keep the motivation up!

How often does everyone weigh themselves? Coming from SW I always weighed weekly but I'm now reading that daily weighing is better for motivation and to get a better picture of fluctuations.

BustedDreams · 29/10/2019 18:23

@BlueEyedFloozy I’ve had a great day and ate to plan. Kitchen now cleaned and closed. I used to weigh daily but my fluctuations and sticking weight made that a heavy hearted process. Now I generally weigh weekly with a caveat of first thing in the morning after a loo visit Blush Everyone is different though.

OP posts:
Foreverlexicon · 29/10/2019 18:59

I’ve decided not to go with products but
I’ve made a meal plan for my next set which accounts for my weird days and averages out at just under 1600 calories a day.

I haven’t weighed myself in ages and I don’t intend to for a while as I find it messes with my head if I’m not happy with my weight. I’m considering not weighing until the week before Christmas as I need some consistency.

BustedDreams · 29/10/2019 19:06

@Foreverlexicon sounds like a plan. A sensible plan at that. Wishing you every success. I know you can do it!

I’m running a bubble bath. Back is killing me and my muscles will thank me for it. Does anyone else put a cocktail of products in their bath water? I’ve got muscle soak bath salts, lavender sleep bath salts, and a splash of 3 different bubble bath products. Got a face mask at the ready and some tunes going. Accompanied by my naice glass of lemon water. I know how to live it up I do Grin

Thanks for creating this thread. I will be posting and sharing my ideas and observations of what works for me.

AreYouSiriusLupin · 29/10/2019 21:00

Please can I join?

I am feeling depressed and overwhelmed. I am so desperate to lose weight and exercise more, yet always self-sabotage.

I am re-starting myfitness pal tomorrow, and will aim to go for a long walk.

I am sick of the self loathing Sad

FlatheadScrewdriver · 29/10/2019 21:01

Great to hear about the good days and all the brilliant planning!

Today has been full of temptation but resisted (even when someone turned up at my door with free Danish pastries). I can feel myself weakening so about to make a warm drink then have an early night.

Was just reading the self care boot camp thread about remembering to look after ourselves - I don't want to add in so many ideas that it gets over-complicated and all falls apart, but it did remind me to commit to taking vitamin D - apparently it doesn't work as well unless you take them out of the packet Grin

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 08:02

Good Morning Lovelies

@AreYouSiriusLupin (love your user name) Of course you can join. They are a lovely group of ladies who use/offer support on these threads. Sorry to hear you self sabotage... that must be exhausting for you. Do you mind me asking how old you are? (don’t feel you have to say if you’re not comfortable). Have you explored what causes you to do this? What are your triggers? Being in the right head space is so important, although I understand it isn’t always easy. Share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. These threads are a safe none competitive space. I’ve never seen any harsh words/posts in the 4/5 months they have been running. Try to start treating yourself like you would a dear friend, with loving kindness & compassion. You ARE a worthwhile human being.

@FlatheadScrewdriver well done on swerving the Danish. I don’t know if I would have been able too Grin

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 08:09

Posted to soon @FlatheadScrewdriver yes VitD is massively important. Low VitD was picked up in one of my blood tests. ‘Some symptoms of a deficit in vitamin D include: thinning or brittle bones, osteoporosis, or frequent bone fractures. muscle weakness, particularly if there is an unexplained change in muscle strength. changes in mood, with people who have low vitamin D experiencing anxiety or depression‘ ... from tinterweb.

I use a spray daily. Must admit I feel somewhat better. The NHS website says this about Vit D
