hi all
thought it was time we had a new thread

Crotchety · 14/08/2007 21:57

Ooh new thread. Very nice. If I book an advance ticket for the wagon for about 2 weeks time does it mean I can get it cheaper ie eat more? Thought not.

cylon · 14/08/2007 22:03

lol
i've been on holiday. and had ten glorious days of stuffing my face with bread. and freshly baked white bread. and chocolate bars. and ice cream. and fudge cake, and more bread, and bagels. and weetabix. and rice. i, glorius rice.
i thought i would have out on loads, but only four pounds. so not sure if should be pleased........
anyways back to induction style for a few days. except for the atkins indulge bar i have just scoffed. and the milky tea i keep drinking.

auntyspan · 14/08/2007 22:20

glad there's a new thread - it was taking me ages to read through it all!!

Just started the induction on Atkins - going OK so far (other than the coffee & splash of milk I had this morning....!)

I have a wedding in a 4 weeks and would like to lose half a stone / 10lb before then - do you think I can do it?

cylon · 14/08/2007 22:36

yes!
how much do you need to lose? personally i dont think atkins should be tried by someone who only has a few pounds to lose. it long term maintenance for life really. not a short term fix.
i lost the most weight in the frist few weeks. i think it may have been about a stone in the first monthish. two stone so far, except for last weeks blip. but i'm not counting that

Excellent.... I've got about 2 stone to lose overall - I'm a bridesmaid along with two others who are a size 8 and a size 10 so to stop me looking like a complete lardarse I'd like to slim down a little bit....!

auntyspan · 15/08/2007 09:39

That's really encouraging.... can I ask about breakfasts? Can I have sausages? I can't eat eggs so I'm a bit restricted....

cylon · 15/08/2007 09:47

are you allergic to eggs? because i have found eggs to be a staple of my diet. i'm not sure i could live without their convenience. they are also great if you are at a friends house for lunch and everythign sh has made is full of carbs. you cant ask for a sirloin steak, but none of my friends mind me asking for a fried egg. or two.

any meats are fine for breakfast. sausages, slices, sirloin steaks (if you can stomack them) just check the carb content of sausages as they often have cheaper carb filler added to them. and check the sliced meats havent been preserved with nitirates.( imay be wrong on this last thing)
once you are past the induction, you can have some nuts as well, which are great.

OP posts:
auntyspan · 15/08/2007 10:00

Not allergic - they just give me bellyache! Might try one for lunch

Thanks for the tip - great to know I've got support here....!

cylon · 15/08/2007 10:11

as, since being on atkins, i have noticed that i eat completly differently. i no longer get the bloated feeling i used to get after a big meal, because i haven t been pigging out on the carbs, you know, the bread and the rice and generally my attitude and feelings to and about food have changed.
perhaps yours will too. but take it slow with egg introduction.

LoveAngel · 15/08/2007 13:36

Hi all. I've tured over a major new leaf with my diet in the last week or so, but am still eating carbs. Can anyone tell me why they are cutting out carbs? Whats the theory behind it? i've never really understood the whole Atkin's thing. Thanks x

auntyspan · 15/08/2007 14:04

Well I'm fairly new to it, but I think the theory is that if you're not eating carbs, your body has to burn something else for energy, so it burns fat instead.

Is this right fellow-nocarbers??!

Strawb, do you not mean an all time high

I'm needing a kick up the arse as I've gained 10lb in the three weeks I've been away.

I've selflessly isolated myself from you all as the risk of contagion is too great.....

I think to be honest that my time as a low carber as such, is reaching an end.

I lost 10lbs in my first week on Atkins (mostly fluids I know), then lost a further 18lbs in dribs and drabs over about 6 months.
But since then, and for the last year and a half I've been losing/gaining the same 6 - 10lbs and am mightily miffed.

I still want to lose another 2 stone but am feeling increasingly that I should be going the low GL/GI route instead, and seeing it as a lifelong eating plan.

Once I get back on track I will not be eating sugar or white processed stuff (bread/cakes).
I will stick to Burgen or Wholemeal bread with seeds, wholewheat pasta and cellophane noodles.
I will eat lots of fruit, veg and pulses.

Have not started yet though so will be back before I go.

cylon · 15/08/2007 20:34

that's the theory as. although, ive been told the science isnt exact. but it does show results. and it is much more akin to preindustrial, pre consumer societies diets. natural and unprocessed.
i dont really know the difference between the various low carb diets. gi? gl? and some other names i have heard.. no idea the difference between them. but if you stay away from processed foods, eat freshveg and fruit, and protein and healthy fat. then you pretty much have a low carb eating plan.
strawb, im sorry to see you go. even if you dont low carb, come talk to us.

i'm pleased to be back on the low carbing, and have gone back to , well within a few hundred grams of what i was, pre piggin outten days. i hope i manage to get the next four kilo's off though. ogg's story could be me next year?

Well broke my own promise this morning and weighed myself - lost 2lb already which is great. Feeling a bit weak and watery but glugging down the water. My skin is already looking better - is this a side effect?

Still doing a fair amount of walking and did 15 minutes on the stepper last night which left me quite drained - is this normal?

cylon · 16/08/2007 15:10

yes, because its only the first three orfour days isnt it?
i remember i started on a monday. did a gym workout then, and didt have the energy for a workout till the saturday after.
so completly normal.

a conundrum that has been confusing me.
i started atkins at the end of jan. lost two stone with it so far. most in the first month, but slow and steady since. alsthough have had weeks when i felt i haven tbeen eating anythig and the needle wont budge on the scales.
anyways. went on holiday for ten days, and ate like a pig. so much bread and sugarry stuff, it is unimaginable. literally loaves and loaves of white processed flour.
i gained about two kilos. maybe less as was measuring with clothes on.
then i cam back and have been on fairly strctish atkins (wit fruit and indulge bars and milky coffee and flour in cheese sauce etc) for four days, and have lost it all. every last ounce.
whats going on here? will i be able to coninue to lose more weight this easily? was it a good thing having a carb binge to kick into a higher gear the weight loss?
any ideas most welcome.

Just checking in with a new name (it's Crotchety). In about a week I shall be back on the low carb (I hope) - it's going to be pretty hopeless until then as we are away. Quite looking forward to restarting though as feel horribly bloaty.

cylon · 18/08/2007 12:52

kats=isha/crothcety , i know how you feel. at the end of the holiday i wa looking forward to coming home and stoping my carb binge as didnt like the bloated feeling constantly.
kami, those are some very positive thoughts. i definitly didnt eat much fat, posibly even less than normal, as meant intake so down,( to give space for bread in stomach ) so perhaps i didnt put on any fat?
i dont have acess to a fat monitor at home. could try the one in tescos' but since will be fully clothed, it will add on a couple of pounds.
