hi all
thought it was time we had a new thread

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 13/09/2007 09:01

I've definitely fallen out of love with lc as a way of life. I did it for 2.5 years and it was great - I felt in control and slim etc. But.....I just reached the end of the road, I was not enjoying my food (which is part of the reason it works of course) and I found that so depressing as I love food, I've aged facially quite a bit and I want to be able to eat what I want to a certain extent. So I use Atkins induction to lose weight every now and again - after christmas, after hols etc to get back to my comfort weight (which is officially about half a stone above my ideal weight but who gives a stuff) but in between I try to eat according to certain rules - protein with every meal, no low fat anything but I cut down the amt of cheese butter etc, complex carbs only, smaller portions and avoid too much sweet stuff because it's my downfall. And lots of water. And I run 3/4 times a week (assuming my bloody left leg allows me to .
It's a workable compromise. I know there are plenty of inspirational people on the lc websites that stick to it religiously all the time but I have had to accept that I can't.

superalienstitch · 13/09/2007 09:44

oi, i intend to stick to that sort of thing as well, once i've lost a further seven pounds.
low carb, but including lots of complex carbs. andno sweet stuff. no fizzy drinks etc. as litttle processed sttuff as posisiblem
hopefuly should keep me healthy

Katisha · 13/09/2007 11:30

But isn't that technically how you are supposed to end up if you did Atkins right through all the stages? It seems to be on the India Knight thing anyway - you are back eating pretty much a low GI sort of diet.

OrmIrian · 13/09/2007 11:36

That is true katisha. But IME most people seem to end up on a slightly expanded version of induction on a permanent basis. And I don't think that bread or pasta would ever figure.

Katisha · 13/09/2007 11:38

Yes you're right about the expanded induction thing. Shall we all just switch to low GI? Seriously?

OrmIrian · 13/09/2007 11:39

It's low-fat (very if you follow the Rick Gallop diet). And I find that difficult to handle. I tried it but it's hard to follow and I did feel hungry.

Katisha · 13/09/2007 11:41

Ah OK. No I am sufficiently indoctrinated against low fat never to buy anything labelled as such again.

oggsfrog · 14/09/2007 07:19

I find that I use lc as a license to eat fat...butter, cispy streaky bacon, crispy chicken skin, crispy lamb chops etc. and when I come off it I find it really difficult to curb it.
I do feel happier eating lots of fruit and veg and complex carbs like seedy, nutty bread and beans and pulses.
Oh what to do, what to do? I too feel like I've come to the end of the road with lc as such.....
But I definately need the support of a thread like this though.

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/09/2007 16:07

well my god start has come to naught. Scales are back where I started a week ago.

AF has arrived, which may have explained some of it, but it's nearing the end now and still no weight loss.

Had a bad day coming back from Germany, which didn't help. Woke up late so no time for breakfast - at the airport, in the club lounge, only cheese available that was low carb. By the time the plane took off, at 3pm, I was starving, and the meal was sandwiches! So I ate them.

Since then food choices have been good (perhaps have overdone the nuts).

Not drinking enough water and definitely drinking too much white wine!

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/09/2007 16:07

good start!

Katisha · 15/09/2007 18:28

I find this weight thing baffling. You can be really strict for a week and find you have put on 3 pounds - this has just happened to me and as I am not doing any exercise (ahem) I know it's not muscle gain.

Neither is it AF. It's just bloody depressing. Why doesn't your body KNOW how hard you are trying!

However the other day I got some "magic" underwear from M&S and suddenly people were commenting on how I'd lost weight...Hah!

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/09/2007 18:49

Well I know that I've got to knock the wine on the head.

I've now only got 5 weeks left before I go on holiday, and I really wanted to lose at least half a stone, so I'm going to have to get a shift on!

I've been invited to a serious party on Thursday, but reckon if I can avoid the wine for the rest of the time it should help.

Trouble is, my resolve is great on Monday, weakening by Tuesday and shot to pieces by Thursday.

Katisha · 15/09/2007 19:14

Just remind me - which wine is the least worst?

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/09/2007 20:55

I think red wine is the 'best', followed by dry white.

Champagne also not too bad, should you be feeling flush!

mazzystar · 15/09/2007 21:04

well my scales have seemed to get stuck. i have lost 18 lbs but I need to lose at least another 20 to be happy with my weight. i have been dallying with the idea of shifting to the food doctor/low gi diet too as i think its a bit more forgiving in terms of variety and therefore more sustainable in the long term.

but i think it will be way more easy for me to steer clear of the pasta/spuds/bread now, just don't fancy them at all.

stitch · 15/09/2007 21:06

i think i must be bucing th trend, because for me lc is definitly workig. the scales are defiintly going downwards. slowly, but seteadily. very slowly soemtimes.
and i've not been particularly good this week either. lots of bread and ice cream, but havebeen doing extra extra bike riding for charity ride tomorrow.
i'm much much happier when i low carb becaue i am not hungry. and yes, i do end up doing high fat. ut because lc, is ok.

emotionalwreck · 15/09/2007 23:06

Oggsfrog - I think you used to be known by many other froggy names aka frogdelalune etc. And Sallystrawb...... remember moi? I disappeared about a year ago in a vat of creamed mashed potatoe - please forgive! Am now trying to get pregnant and lose weight. I'm still exactly the same weight I was when we were doing carboholics anonymous. (14st 9lb

Will you all re-welcome me into the bosom of your low carbing fratenity/maternity?

oggsfrog · 16/09/2007 08:37

Emotional How the hell are you?

I was thinking about you the other day, wondering where you'd gone! Welcome back.

I'm ashamed to say I've regained almost half of the two stone I lost in 2006

I've got a music festival this weekend so I'm eating all and everything (crepes with maple syrup and squooshy cream featuring frequently )

I'm going to have to have a serious think about how I'm going to go forward. At the moment I'm veering towards lots of fruit, veg and complex carbs - but like you I have a weakness for potatoes, so will probably have to avoid them completely.

Katisha · 16/09/2007 10:20

Hello Emotional - I remember you! (I was Crotchety) Welcome back!
Some of us are having a bit of a crisis about low carb not doing the trick it used to do...We'll end up with our own carboholics anon diet book sooner or later and make a fortune...

I think I've gone a bit off message today lately but today ok i think

breakfast - tsp soaked linseeds with total greek yoghurt and maybe -oooh -six blueberries
lunch - chicken in spinach sauce and salad from the turkish cafe, could have been so much worse they do divine felafel which ds scoffed a load of
supper - haddock roasted with pancetta and rosemary, asparagus and home-made lemon mayonnaise
snacked on cacao nibs and a finger full of whipped cream from the cake a friend brought round

would love to lose about 10 lbs by the time my birthday arrives at the end of october. maybe need to do a week or two of induction to achieve that though

Hello Strawb. Welcome back. It's quite quiet round here these days!

Well as for me the scales say exactly the same as usual but tonight I tried on a couple of test skirts and they were definitely looser. As I keep saying, I remain baffled by the whole "weight" thing - it seems to be totally unrelated to inch loss. Perhaps I'll end up the size of Kate Moss and somehow still weigh 12 st...
