Desperately need to lose this weight. I can't use the excuse of I've just had a baby because DS will 5 in November!! 4 years ago I only needed to lose 1.5 stone, now it's 2.5. Would like to do something along the lines of low fat/low calorie diet, with exercise 3 or 4 times per week, but really do need a bit of support, as I tend to weaken very easily....

Would anyone like to join me, with a weekly weigh-in, day to day support etc?

pennies - it's very depressign isn't it when the scales jsut don't seem to shift. its worth remembering though that weight loss won't follow a smooth even line, it may be that you don't lose any for a couple of weeks and then drop a load. and i reckon there's always a bit of trial and error in terms of the amount of calories/types of foods that work best for you as in individual.

anyone got any ideas about how on earth i can get some decent fat-burning exercise into my life? ds is nearly 3, dd 6 months, dh works till 7 most nights so by the time we've eaten and put the kids to bed, i've missed the gym-going window. thinking about investing in some MBT trainers and a headtorch and powerwalking at dusk......or has anyone organised anything with weights at home, i think i need to do some resistance stuff too.....?

mazzystar · 24/08/2007 18:03

and hey fedda keep your spirits up, try to think positive and imagine yourself slim, its quite motivating. have you much to lose?

Hurlyburly · 24/08/2007 18:06

Please may I join late? I'd like to lose another stone and am really struggling - put two pounds ON last week - it's not good.

fedda · 24/08/2007 18:08

i'm sorry to think in kg, I need to loose at least 7 kg.

Hurlyburly · 24/08/2007 18:15

Well I think 1kg = 2.2 pounds so on that basis I need to lose around 6kg. AAAARGH

mazzystar · 24/08/2007 18:23

fedda, from what you have posted, it sounds like you eat quite a balanced and healthy diet - supermarket cheese sandwiches excepted. maybe, as you haven't a really really vast amount to lose its upping your activity levels that will get things going? the last stone or so is always the hardest, supposedly.

fedda · 24/08/2007 19:39

mazzystar, I need to loose more then 7 kg, I've been just realistic. 7 kg is a bare minimum. Yes, my diet is okay but my tummy isn't. It's big and on some occasions I've been asked whether I'm expecting! I saif good bye ty 3 of my skirts as it's impossible for me to put them on. My waist feels twice the measurement it's been before i got married. Yes, I can blame it on my DH who loves eating out but where was my head? I also don't like exersises and the only thing i like is disco dancing at home when no one is looking.

Thunderpants · 24/08/2007 19:52

Hi all. sounds like we're all feeling a bit glum. I still haven't started any regular exercise, despite finally purchasing a sports bra. Have decided that aquarobics are more my thing. It is difficult to fit in classes and stuff though, isn't it? My DP works away a lot, and to no regular pattern, so I can't always guarantee that I can attend, and that's enough to put me off usually. However, I feel I really must stop making excuses and kick myself up the arse. No one else is going to lose weight for me, I have only myself to blame if I don't. So I'm bloody well going to do it this time. Rant over .

Someone suggested to me to keep the phrase "keep moving" in your head, so while you're waiting for the kettle to boil, or for a bus etc, then move, don't stand still. Apparently you can burn an extra 150/200 cals a day by doing this, so it's got to be worth trying to remember.

Can't think of anything very motivational to say right now, I think I'll struggle to have lost a pound by Monday, but will try to stay focused.

PS Hoodia tablets don't appear to be doing much, this is day two.......

fedda - just a thought - i don't know if you could bear to do it but cutting out wheat - or if not entirely then just pasta and bread can really help with getting rid of tummy bloat. i'm low carbing because i have reached a state where, after 2 c sections in just over 2 years, desperate measures are required. its had the most impact on my waist so far.

i'm a bit all or nothing with exercise, got really into it runnuing, rowing, circuits, weight training - the lot, about 5 years ago before domesticity changed my life. so i struggle to do any at all just now.

what's the hoodia meant to do thunder?

fedda · 24/08/2007 20:44

Thank you, mazzystar. i did cut out white bread and pasta and I only occasionally have whole meal bread. I hate tablets and I'll never take any slimming pills, even if they are the best. I like the idea of keeping mooving, Thunderpants. I'll try that. I've borrowed some aerobic tapes but I can only do up to 20 minutes. I get really tired. Anyway, I suppose it's better then nothing.

Thunderpants · 24/08/2007 21:03

mazzy - I saw a documentary a few years back about tribes in Africa who took this cactus when they went on hunting trips, and it stopped them feeling hungry for a day or so. the programme was telling the story of what a great find it was, and how the tribesmen were probably going to get ripped off by western companies in the race to find the perfect "diet pill". To cut a long story short, the tribesmen haven't been exploited and have been able to farm the cactus and sell it to the west. So basically it is just a plant extract, nothing dangerous and has no known side effects. However, I really don't think it's done much so far. Haven't felt thirsty at all, so maybe it's only having that effect on me. had a hectic day so have opened a bottle of pinot grigio. could be empty by 11!

Thunderpants, I'm not sure taking something for not feeling hungry is such a good idea. if you feel hungry you can always eat apples, cherries, raspberries and lot's of other fruit and veg which will never get you fat. Why suppress the appitate and try not to eat for a day or so? i'm not going to do it myself as it only makes me an angry person. Well, may be it's just me.

Thunderpants · 24/08/2007 21:46

fedda, tbh i was just hoping it would curb my appetite, so that I wouldn't eat as much as i do. however, it doesn't appear to even do that!

OP posts:
fedda · 24/08/2007 21:48

Why wouldn't you just stop taking it? you never know what it will do to you as some tablets take time and do stuff we last need. Sorry for giving you advice.

Thunderpants · 24/08/2007 22:02

no worries fedda. I'm not usually one for taking tablets, but I really have been very down and desperate about the weight issue that I'm willing to try anything that seems "natural". I have a friend who is on prescribed appetite suppressants, and needs to go for a weekly check-up becuase of the nasty side-effects. I've taken st john's wort before for mild depression and it really helped, so I was hoping this might work too. I suppose not everything works for everyone though.

OP posts:
fedda · 24/08/2007 22:24

You can see how one thing leeds to another though. If i try to eat significantly less i get angry, you get depressed. If we just have healthy snacks instead of missing out on food we might get much more optimistic altogether.

fedda · 24/08/2007 22:26

Just a thought. Why wouldn't we start with some ideas and get our own food doctor idsas here? Each of us could post their breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack ideas, anything which is healthy and simple to mke.

mazzystar · 24/08/2007 22:27

that's a great idea fedda

but right now i'm off to my bed.......away for the weekend, so see y'all tuesday - enjoy the bank holiday
