Cannot find even 1% motivation to lose weight but need to

I’ve been steadily gaining for a while now and don’t even know how much exactly as not weighed but I look and feel like crap.

I’m 5’6 and a size 16 now.
The more like crap I feel the less motivation I can find to change anything

I’m waiting for probably another gynae op, I keep telling myself even after the 1st one that I would change my ways and did nothing! I’m vit D deficient (on treatment), anaemic (on treatment)

I have a sedate desk job and I eat LOADS.
I have heartburn (on tablets) and have asthma which isn’t helped by lugging my weight around

My biggest problem seems to be stress related eating and drinking. Right now I have a mega bag of sweets in my handbag and will not flinch at eating them for breakfast!

I’m out of control. How can I get control back? Any advice?

@PookieDo my diet is very similar 😳. I have also been known to skip dinner and eat a sharing bag of crisps instead.
My night out was awesome and I didn’t drink so I am not hungover but oh my goodness I am tired - fell asleep at 2.30ish and up at 7.10. I am not sure how I will make it through the day!!💤.
I have bought a book about hunger directed eating which will hopefully arrive on Monday and I am going to hopefully be massively inspired to only eat when I am hungry... 🤔. If that doesn’t work i’m going to have to save up for a gastric balloon and liposuction!!! (Joking..... I think). Seriously though if I could wake up skinny I think I could stay skinny but at the moment it just seems insurmountable.

MaryBoBary · 18/05/2019 11:21

I've got one of those water bottles with the time markers on it so you know your e drinking enough water during the day. That helps me not to feel hungry too. But I've had a bowl of cereal and a banana this morning and I'm counting down the minutes until lunchtime!

Any healthy but filling lunch suggestions? I can't stand salad so that's out but don't know what else to eat. I'm not overly keen on sandwiches unless it's cheese so if I'm trying to lose weight I usually have 2 slices of toast with marmite. But that gets boring very quickly!

PookieDo · 18/05/2019 14:44

I am really finding today hard as I feel really rank. I thought I was going to be sick earlier

I am hoping this is not related to trying to eat healthily 😂
I’ve only had 2 shakes in 2 days the rest is all proper food

I wish I had advice OP but I'm in the same boat. Since going on maternity leave in September I've struggled to find the motivation to lose weight and being at home a lot more means snacking on rubbish. If I miss breakfast or lunch I'll stop at the McD drive through on the school run. I'm a stone and a half heavier than before pregnancy so not a huge amount but enough that I no longer fit into my old clothes and I feel unhappy with my body. I'm 5'2 so that stone and a half makes a big difference to how I look.

This year I've joined WW and SW twice but I always quit after a week and tell myself I'm happier eating what I want. But I'm not. I miss my old clothes!

Amibeingdaft81 · 18/05/2019 16:11

OP

When I suggest lost your old dirt, I meant go in to the detail. So how much choc, crisps, sweets etc rather than just “snacks”.

Once you have detailed it honestly, you have a benchmark against which you can track progress. So even if it means going from 2 chocolate bars to one chocolate bar for mid morning snack - that’s a 50% improvement!

Amibeingdaft81 · 18/05/2019 16:11

“Lost your old dirt” should read “post your old diet”!

sorell · 18/05/2019 16:48

@PookieDo I am sorry that you are feeling rough, hope you feel better soon. Thanks

Omgnamechange · 18/05/2019 20:15

Hi all, glad to see the thread is still going @Sorell I hope your face was ok and @Pookie I hope your stomach settles. I am focusing on being mindful and trying to cut the snacks out. I have no restrictions on what I eat but trying to make better choices. I probably need to up my water in take too.

Greenfield19 · 18/05/2019 20:17

I’m going to really start cutting down on Monday. Seeing a difference in myself again and it needs to stop. If I can just cut down chocolate and cakes etc I feel it’ll make a huge difference.

Kim82 · 18/05/2019 23:06

I’ve made a few small changes again today. Porridge and banana for breakfast, turkey salad roll for lunch, took my youngest dd swimming this afternoon and rather than drinking beer and eating a big share bag of crisps to myself I have had 3 glasses of gin with diet lemonade and a regular 25g packet of crisps. I had sausage and mash for tea but that’s because I have already bought all the food for this weeks meals and can’t afford to buy extras. I’ll choose healthier main meals for next week’s food shop. At least I have started on small changes which is something.

Omgnamechange · 19/05/2019 07:20

@Kim82,
A small change is better than no change I think.

Pppppppp1234 · 19/05/2019 07:27

My hubbie recently did the 16/8 diet, 8 hour period during the day you can eat then 16 hours no eating ( ie over night) so he wouldn’t eat beyond 8pm... no caffeine after this, just herbal tea or water.
During the day when he did have caffine he had it black.
He also did the limit his calorie intake during the day using the my fitness pal app. You can scan the product you are eating for breakfast / lunch / tea. It monitors how many steps you do etc. He steadily lost 3lb a week during the time he did it, so it was really successful .

Galwaygirl · 19/05/2019 08:00

Size 16, can be so good during the day and once evening comes I am searching the house for sweets and treats, thing is I know its wrong but simply can't stop, would be opening a bar of choc saying I don't need this but can't stop

PookieDo · 19/05/2019 08:53

I am bad for sweets too

I am logging it all on my fitness pal and being honest about it, I’ve come in around 1500 calories trying to be ‘good’
Less than this and I am starving! Also my reflux is made worse by being hungry so bad habit to try to eat to settle the pain. I need to go back to my GP

MaryBoBary · 19/05/2019 09:17

Pookie sweets are the food of the gods. I'm obsessed with the rowntree pick and mix bags. But I'm on day 3 of withdrawal now Grin

PookieDo · 19/05/2019 18:39

How is everyone today?

I have had the best diet day yet. I’ve been really active too which took my mind off being bloody hungry and my only treat was an ice lolly Grin

I have created some probably awful concoction of food for my lunches which is basically crap from the fridge cut into small cubes and roasting in the oven - bacon with the fat off, a potato, a sweet potato, carrots and peppers

OP posts:
ShirleyAvenue · 19/05/2019 19:41

Ice lollies are a great treat (step away from the icecream though.) If i'm not mistaken, a Fruit Pastille ice lolly is only 61 calories.
Mini twisters about half of that, but also half the size.

RubySlippers77 · 19/05/2019 20:11

Well done on today Pookie!

TBH I haven't started anything yet, AF arrived yesterday and I'm really suffering already. (No idea if this would be helped by weight loss or not!). I met a friend for pizza this afternoon but just felt fat and bloated.

Has anyone tried Our Path? I've looked at their website but can't work out what the diet/ plan/ idea actually involves, plus the cheapest version is £30 per month Shock, which is a lot of money to waste if it doesn't suit you! They do offer a two week free trial though.

I'm currently fuming at DP being so late home from MIL & FIL's with the DC - in fact so fuming that I've gone out to Starbucks and left him to do the hell that is bedtime - I've avoided the cakes though and am treating myself to a skinny hot chocolate instead!

MaryBoBary · 19/05/2019 20:55

I had my roast dinner today but only had 2 roast potatoes instead of the usual 4! And I did have a small portion of apple crumble with ice cream but resisted seconds! I've decided that Sundays are my treat day, so I'll eat whatever I like but in moderation, then be good the rest of the week.

I bought some chocolate and caramel Alpen bars for when I really wabt some chocolate - they are only 70cal each so a good compromise I think. Still stuck to not eating after 6pm today - but have been very tempted! Sticking with a cup of tea and doing my nails to distract myself from eating!

PookieDo · 19/05/2019 20:56

I’ve never heard of our path
I wish I was rich enough to afford healthy food delivered to me though 😂

I am long term dog sitting so I have arranged with my friend to walk after work in the evenings

I ve lost weight recently but find it really hard to stay off the sweet treats. I go with nothing for a while and binge. I can't just eat one biscuit or a square of chocolate I go on and on.

One thing I find really worked was simply not buying it. Try internet shopping so you aren't actually in the supermarket where there are temptations. I find when I have a craving we don't have anything in the house so I would have to drag the dcs out to get something. That then makes it a conscious decision to have that item, do I want it enough to drag myself out? which then really helps me to stop mindlessly eating.

When I have sugar cravings I have started getting my sugar fix in other ways too which are healthier. I have Greek yoghurt with fruit and honey, blueberries, a handful of nuts, I find this satisfies my sugar craving and I feel like I ve had something sweet but a healthier sweet.

Cazzamataz · 20/05/2019 20:22

Hi
Can I join in your support group too please?

I had the shock of my life two weeks ago when I bought some scales and braved them. I am 5'5" and ordinarily (before I was pregnant) weighed 9 & a half stone. When I weighed myself it came in at 11st 12lb. I was beyond words.
I have worked out my trigger for comfort eating and for me it is grief and stress. My mum died in October and since then my eating habits have been diabolical.

Since I weighed myself I have cut down massively on my 'comfort': hot chocolate made with whole milk. Started running again (1st time in 8 years) and been doing 30mins Zumba at home a night. I have also cut down on portion sizes. when I jumped on the scales this morning I came in at 11st 1lb. God I miss hot chocolate on demand though!

PookieDo · 21/05/2019 07:22

@Cazzamataz
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss, I think that is very stressful and don’t think you should beat yourself up about having had a difficult few months

Hello to newcomers too!
I went on a good 4 mile walk last night and it is really making my anxiety and stress feel better, I think having got into the swing of things I feel much more positive and motivated and If weight loss happens then a good bonus but I don’t want to hinge everything on thar because if I don’t lose I don’t want to fall back into bad habits that make me feel shitty!
