Cannot find even 1% motivation to lose weight but need to

I’ve been steadily gaining for a while now and don’t even know how much exactly as not weighed but I look and feel like crap.

I’m 5’6 and a size 16 now.
The more like crap I feel the less motivation I can find to change anything

I’m waiting for probably another gynae op, I keep telling myself even after the 1st one that I would change my ways and did nothing! I’m vit D deficient (on treatment), anaemic (on treatment)

I have a sedate desk job and I eat LOADS.
I have heartburn (on tablets) and have asthma which isn’t helped by lugging my weight around

My biggest problem seems to be stress related eating and drinking. Right now I have a mega bag of sweets in my handbag and will not flinch at eating them for breakfast!

I’m out of control. How can I get control back? Any advice?

@MaryBoBary yes Friday is good. I'm not setting myself any targets, just anything less on the scales each week will work for me.

I too think that a Friday weigh in will hopefully stop me going crazy at the weekend.

I'm 10st 9.

Bibidy · 17/05/2019 14:52

I do get what you mean, I have been gradually putting on more and more weight over the past couple of years and I don't really appreciate how much until I try to wear older clothes and they don't even nearly fit, or I see horrific pictures someone has taken when I'm unawares.

I am on my second week of SW now though and am actually finding it really good....I was going to recommend it to you until I saw that you didn't like it!! I do think it takes extra prep and you're right, I've been having to do a lot more cooking to be able to take healthier stuff for lunch, but I sort of feel like that helps me to feel more engaged and get in the right head space. I'm not much of a chef so a lot of my 'cooking' just consists of heating stuff up, and it seems to have worked so far!

I could never do shakes as I'd be starving, I'm hoping I have a good weigh in this week on SW as I'm finding I'm able to eat enough to not be hungry and almost don't feel like I'm even dieting.

MaryBoBary · 17/05/2019 15:09

I find just having to admit to anyone else but myself how well (or not) I've done helps keep me motivated. I'm only 5ft 3 and also never think I look that bad until I see a photo and can't believe that's what everyone else is seeing. Also mirrors in shop changing rooms are always a shocker and I can't believe I look as fat as I do.

sorell · 17/05/2019 15:37

@MaryBoBary I am 5'3 too and look around 7 months pregnant. All my excess weight is carried round my middle.

It's awful when you catch sight of yourself in shop windows etc. In my head I don't think I look that bad and then reality strikes when faced with a shop window.

MaryBoBary · 17/05/2019 15:58

So depressing isn't it. And I'm getting married in 12 months so want to be feeling good by Christmas and hopefully down to a size 10. Then it will be a matter of maintaining until May. I'm also considering finding a yoga or plates class when my weight loss has started to tone up, but don't want to try and do everything all at once because that's why I always fail. So far this year I'm doing well - quit smoking in February, started my antidepressants again in March so I'm feeling much more positive and healthy just for that. Then I saw this thread and it was the push I needed so thank you pooky

PookieDo · 17/05/2019 16:02

Ok if we get a glimpse in a shop window we now need to look at ourselves and think something positive and not feel bad!

Jacket pots for dinner tonight!

@Bibidy

I’ve lost a lot on SW in the past but I didn’t work as many hours and it was so much easier to manage. It just doesn’t work for me now! If I forget to take lunch to work and I go to a small shop I really struggle to be able to find something that isn’t just a muller light and a banana! Then it ends up really expensive with a packet of ready cooked chicken and a pre packed salad

But it is a good way to lose weight and sounds like you are doing all the right things

sorell · 17/05/2019 16:24

Just had my first diet related injury.

I was reaching up to the high cupboard to get a tin of tuna for my jacket potato, I grabbed it and dropped it and it smacked me in the eye and cheek bone. That wouldn't have happened if I was reaching for chocolate.

It hurts! 😩

MaryBoBary · 17/05/2019 16:41

Grin no one said this would be easy!!

PookieDo · 17/05/2019 16:43

Oh no! Don’t let this put you off though! Hope you don’t have a black eye
Hmm I want tuna now

OP posts:
PookieDo · 17/05/2019 18:03

Ok I don’t know what has happened but I have a really bad tummy ache like I am about to have D&V!
I am hoping this wasn’t slimfast or a dodgy tin of tuna Hmm

sorell · 17/05/2019 18:18

@PookieDo I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's just wind!

PookieDo · 17/05/2019 18:25

I can’t even talk about the wind. The cat has moved out

Selfcarequeereyestyle · 17/05/2019 18:35

I’ve been feeling ropey today to. I’m hoping it is nothing! I’m meant to be going out tonight and I really want to go (I never normally go out!).

PookieDo · 17/05/2019 18:44

Oh no I hope you are ok and have a good night out!

OP posts:
sorell · 17/05/2019 18:44

So I've been smacked in the face by a tin of tuna, @PookieDo has belly ache and what are your symptoms @Selfcarequeereyestyle?

We are doing well Grin

FindaPenny · 17/05/2019 19:01

I'm not really so overweight, but recently my eating has been quite out of control and its surely a matter of time.... Plus I'm sick of my clothes not fitting nicely and feeling tired after I eat too much.

Things just seem better with food..... Watching TV, having, a chat, browsing my phone. Don't do any exercise apart from walking.... About 8000 steps a day. Sometimes feel a bit shaky if I haven't eaten recently.

My husband has been fasting for ramadan and so I have tried a semi-fast where I have just drank water until its time to eat.... About 8:45 and then I just eat a normal meal... Nothing ultra healthy. Its been very boring but the shakes have stopped and although I don't have a very good set of scales I think I have lost about 3 kilos since about the 5th of May.

Kim82 · 17/05/2019 19:35

Hi, just catching up after getting in from work. Hope your face is okay sorell and your stomach is better Pookiedo. I was good and took a cereal bar and an apple to work to keep me going whereas I’d usually have some crisps and biscuits.

I’ve also opted for chicken drumsticks and salad with a slice or tiger bread for my tea which would usually have been chicken drumsticks and chips so I’m happy. Could do with stopping the bread too really but small steps...

I’ll have a gin and diet lemonade tonight in front of the tv too instead of a bottle of beer (classy lady that I am).

Amibeingdaft81 · 17/05/2019 19:41

Hi OP

What was a normal day of eating for you?

Write it all down. Own it. And then when you’re tempted to fall of the wagon, read the food diary, shudder and I reckon you won’t succumb

sorell · 17/05/2019 21:11

@PookieDo how are you feeling now?

TidaQuel · 17/05/2019 22:25

Hi everyone
Anyone mind if I join. I feel just like you op, I’m 5’5 and size 16 (which are beginning to feel snug). The weights been creeping on over the past few years and despite keep saying I’ll start, I never do. I feel motivated when I see fast results, so I think I’ll invest in some (any similar recommendations??) and hopefully once I see results, the motivation will take off. I’d like to start C25K too and plan to start cycling to work.

I’m vegetarian, has anyone got any quick and easy lunch snack recipes?
Will take a look at my fitness pal

MaryBoBary · 18/05/2019 08:23

Wel I was very good last night and didn't have any sweets or chocolate at work! Just took my water bottle and drank that.

I have done c25k but again stopped bothering after a little bit of success. I managed to get to the one where you run non stop for 20 mins and was so proud of myself, but then stopped bothering. I should pick it up again really, as much as I hate to admit it I used to quite enjoy it after the first couple of weeks. I've got a very addictive personality too so was running every other day for about 6 weeks and then just stopped. I think we went away for a few days which got me out of my routine and then I never picked it back up. Need to work on that!

Kim82 · 18/05/2019 08:39

Well done Mary with the not eating rubbish last night.

I’ve weighed myself this morning for the first time in ages and I’m 13st 5 - I’m so ashamed, I’m only 5ft 2, that’s far too heavy for my height.

I’ve got a busy day ahead of me today so hopefully it’ll keep me distracted from eating unhealthy food. I think I’m going to have porridge and a banana for breakfast.

PookieDo · 18/05/2019 08:57

Morning all
I don’t know what is wrong with my insides it’s been very painful and burbling all night! But not an illness it’s something I have eaten or drunk that is not agreeing with me I have a slight upset stomach

I take iron tablets which really annoy me too and don’t help

My usual diet is:
Breakfast - either something fast like belvita or my DC chocolate cereal Blush

Snack on biscuits and crap

Lunch - usually a shop bought sandwich with added crap from a meal deal

More endless snacks - crisps etc

Dinner - 2 extremes - either a really nice healthy normal home cooked meal with vegetables or something from the freezer with mayonnaise all over it

Evening: wine, sweets, ice cream

I am sometimes out of the house 7.30am to 7pm. There is no one to make me dinner at home if I am late and I am often tired. Yes I could spend the entire weekend cooking for the next week but I don’t want to 😂

There is my diet in all its glory

sorell · 18/05/2019 09:41

Morning, I was really good yesterday. I didn't eat anything past 6pm which was difficult but necessary if I want to make a difference.

I felt really pleased with myself when I woke up this morning and didn't feel the immediate guilt for the previous nights eating habits.

Have a good day all.
