Half a stone off in March

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

Oh and I'm down a pound to 10st 7 from last week. Not much, but it was a family party on Saturday so I ate loads and had wine and cake. Tbh, I'm surprised I lost anything.

AmIWelcome · 05/03/2019 14:00

All weight loss so far is down to cutting calories and exercising. I used to be very active until I injured my knee which put pay to all of that. In the last 3 years I have gained over 4st so now with my knee issues behind me I am determined to work my way back down!

I go to the gym every morning before work and hit the treadmill. I use the Hill Program and set it to 15 which is pretty hard going. These sessions last for 45-60mins and I burn between 600-850 calories a session. I will also throw a weights session in every now and then. In the last 9 day's I've made 8 gym visits and that has prompted the weight loss which is great!

Diet wise I am cheating slightly in that I am taking weight loss shakes in place of breakfast and then dinner, eating healthy snacks such as chopped veg and fruit in between. I know long term that isnt sustainable but I need to reset my relationship with food and 9 day's in I am maintaining that diet without faltering :).

SingaporeSlinky · 05/03/2019 14:12

Wow AmI that’s a lot of calories you’re burning in your sessions. Sounds like you’re on the right track already.

I’ve only managed 20 mins of my dvd and instead of feeling energised by it I feel very sluggish. My aim for this week was to do 3 exercise sessions though, so to have done 2 by Tuesday (plus some walking) is fairly good. Reckon I’ll try and up it to 4 now.

Those of you on MFP, how are you going to log pancakes? By finding one you think sounds about right, calorie wise, or logging the individual ingredients you use, including the butter for frying etc?

DH said we should just have pancakes for dinner after all, as the dc have had a cooked lunch at school, so it saves us making a proper dinner as well. He’s making them, so I’ll just go with that. Saves feeling guilty about having a dessert, as such, as I’ve still got 650 kcals allowance left today, not including the extra I’ve earned from exercise.

AmIWelcome · 05/03/2019 15:09

Yeah, it is probably more as I also use 3kg weights whilst on the treadmill which it doesn't calculate so probs add another 150-200 calories to that total!

If it helps I find that going to the gym early mornings (4:30am) helps me keep my exercise on track. I work 8-4 so by going that early I always get a work out in as I won't have the motivation to do it after work.

You also get used to getting up early, the minute I hit the gym I know it was worth it :)

(obviously having children makes that more difficult for most I appreciate!)

Helloo buddies, I am writing from the train back home, am so knackered today that I think I am going to hit the jammies and bed as soon as I get home - my fam is going to fend for themselves (no doubt some oven ready-made concoction) and I have lovely low calories soup waiting from eye in the fridge - "preparation prevents pork pies and pizzas".

Ooook so, I felt really proud of myself because I am out of the house for work today, leaving home at 6 and got up at 5 to squeeze in 10 minutes of cross trainer and then comes AmIWelcome with his 4 am treadmill marathons! Thassnoffair! :)

Anyway, got up, elliptical, shower and off to the train station and today's steps count is already 12,000. I have also managed to stay on plan. Solid, solid as a rock, baby!!

I am supposed to have my first WI tomorrow but Sod's Law I have my period today and feel bloated like a Michelin (wo)Man so thinking about weighing in next week instead - what is the thread wisdom on this? Shall I weigh myself and risk disappointment or wait another week?

SingaporeSlinky · 05/03/2019 16:34

Frida well done on fitting in your exercises today! I am not an early riser, can just about get up at 7am for the school run. Think weighing is just personal preference, I’m still weighing every day, but if a few pounds up from fluid retention will disappoint you, then maybe leave it a few more days. Personally I’ve found it helpful to know that I do put on weight during mine, so I won’t get a shock this month.

Thank you SingaporeSlinky, because of my MH issues I associate staying in bed with depression so the earlier I get up the better I feel during the day! I do not always succeed as not a natural early riser either, but getting up at 5 every day would be ideal for my inner well being. I love when I go to the US and my disturbed body clock makes me be up like a chirpy bird at 4 am!

It's funny how we are all different and each one of us has to find their way - I could not weigh every day, I mean, total respect for you of course, but I am of the obsessive-compulsive kind so I get completely obsessed with the scales. In fact, I am thinking that diet + measurements may be the way to go with me rather than scales. But it's a faff to measure up compared to weight. Maybe I should weigh once a month instead than once a week? Mhhh. I'll think about it.

Jaysus I am on my sixth train today. I just want to be home.

TickVG · 05/03/2019 17:08

On pancakes I'd use the 'create meal' option in MFP and log the ingredients individually - then adjust for how much of the total made that you ate- but I am a little bit anal about logging. Homemade ones could be quite different from their generic pancake. You will be able to have some amazing pancakes and fillings with 650cal! DD is planning to have peanut butter, chocolate spread and banana on hers! Grin

SingaporeSlinky · 05/03/2019 17:12

Thanks, I’ll try that. I get a bit anal about logging too, but don’t want to underestimate and end up accidentally pigging out. My Dd is having choc spread and banana as well. Lemon and sugar for me. Can’t wait.

Viva - haha it’s not glamorous but if I didn’t do it I wouldn’t do it at all! The hardest bit is standing up out of bed...then your committed so can’t go back!!

Just weighed in slightly early (trying to weigh in each Friday) and I’m now 16st 5 which takes my total to 12 pounds lost!

ZsaZsaMc · 05/03/2019 19:25

Viva sometimes I’ve weighed myself on two consective days and taken the average or looked at it from a best case / worst case scenario.

My weight (or scales?!) seem to fluctuate wildly even though I weigh myself at the same time, in the same place etc. And disappointment can lead to falling of the wagon.

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 19:34

I logged my pancakes as "crepe" on MFP, the first one that came up, I think it was 113 calories. I only had choc shot on mine (14 cal a tsp), so it wasn't that bad.

If pancakes are way more calorific than that, please don't tell me!!!

TickVG · 05/03/2019 19:35

Wow AmI epic weight loss! That is fantastic - well done. And well done thisone 1lb loss alongside enjoying wine and cake sounds amazing, as does your tea-mmmm lamb steak. Argh I found watching the others eat their 'proper' pancakes a struggle tonight. Even though I'm not really that bothered by pancakes normally, the idea of having something really calorie laden appealed! I think having cereal for breakfast didn't help as it got my sugar cravings going. I also looked on another thread where someone was asking for a good flapjack recipe and the one recommended (which contained condensed milk) was 400cal a portion Shock even though that would clearly not be worth the temporary pleasure, I'm finding myself daydreaming about making- and eating- some. It's really interesting thinking about what triggers the cravings for bad things and how that works against the entirely rational weight loss goals that we set outselves. Really agree viva- you do have to find your own way and as a part of that I guess it's really helpful to question yourself each time you start to waver about what your body is really telling you (eg am I tired, thirsty, bored, sad etc). anyway, sounds like you've done really well today despite an exhausting schedule. Smile

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 19:39

Viva I read your message as you having your first Women's Institute meeting....

SingaporeSlinky · 05/03/2019 20:24

MrsVole that sounds about right, mine worked out about 100kcals each, I logged the ingredients individually for our batch and then quartered it for what I had. It was the butter I cooked it in that added a bit more.
I resisted chocolate today, apart from licking the spoon from the Nutella jar once I’d dished it out for the kids Grin

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 05/03/2019 20:29

Why can't I attach a picture on the mobile app?

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 20:39

Ah brilliant, thanks slinky!

Licking the spoon only was super-restrained! I don't even have the self-control to sniff the Nutella jar without giving in and scarfing the lot.

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 20:40

funky what's going wrong? Do you get a plus sign when you hit the paper clip?

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 05/03/2019 20:41

I don't have a paper clip. I have 3 dark squares under the typing section.

I click on one and can attach a pic. I can see a thumbnail.

Then nothing posts?!

FunkyBarnYardBroom · 05/03/2019 20:41

Just wanted to show my tea logged on MFP with a pic

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 21:35

That's frustrating! Maybe an error at MNs end...?

MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 21:36

Testing to see if it works for me...

Half a stone off in March
MrsVoleTheVet · 05/03/2019 21:37

...yep, all fine here (I know that's not helpful, sorry!)

VivaFrida · 06/03/2019 06:30

Good morning all! Typing on my phone on a chilly platform waiting for the first train or the day! Working "in the field" again. I actually find it quite exciting, waking up in the early morning and going off to interesting places. In the evening at the end of a long day I get tired but overall I am happy with the job and it's a great combination of working from home, outings and the occasional conference and big meeting!

But I digress, I decided that if most weight loss programmes advise to weigh once a week there must be a reason for it! So I braced and weighed myself today and even if I am in the middle of the hormonal storm I still lost weight! 600gr, one pound and a bit, nothing life changing but moving in the right direction. Even if I were to lose 600gr per week only I would get to my destination in 14 weeks, which is great. 3 months and a bit. I can do this.

So:

Week 1. Weight: 69.7 kg; BMI 25.6 (overweight). Weight loss so far: 600gr.
