Half a stone off in March

SingaporeSlinky · 01/03/2019 09:03

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

OP posts:
Crazzzycat · 22/03/2019 12:38

I did my weekly weigh in this morning and I’m so so tantalisingly close to hitting that half a stone target for this month!

I should be happy, which of course I am, but I’m also a little bit frustrated with not quite hitting that target yet.

Anyone else finds targets hugely motivating and frustrating at the same time? Or is it just me that needs to learn some patience? Grin

TickVG · 22/03/2019 12:42

I've just crushed an open bag of cheese puffs leftover from a play date tea earlier this week to stop myself from taking one. DH is a bit miffed as he was going to have some! And also thinks I'm batshit. But I don't care. Get a spoon DH.
Cheese puffs: 0 Tick: 1!

Crazzzycat · 22/03/2019 12:56

Well done for resisting that temptation TickVG. It’s a radical solution, but sometimes that’s what it takes Grin

TickVG · 22/03/2019 13:33

He is still going to eat the cheese dust, bless him! Yep agree targets can be a blessing and a curse, esp when other factors eg water retention is actually contributing to you hitting/missing. That's when measuring yourself/trying on new clothes/looking at old pics of yourself can step in as a better motivator I find. Ooh and my new thing- designing my maintenance regime! Finding something to look forward to in terms of cal allowances that enables me to relax a bit more on weekends/nights out without letting go completely

Oops obvs did not mean to post twice sorry Blush

whatthefoxsaid · 22/03/2019 17:41

I think I need to up my game, I'm cheating too much and definitely eating too much. Have downloaded mfp again and going to start logging. I find it a faff and I'll get obsessed with food but I'm already thinking about it a lot so it won't be that different.
Need to cut carbs right back for a start!
Any tips for a lowish cal lunch that will stop me polishing off DD's?!

TheInvestigator · 22/03/2019 18:14

I are 3 meals today! I don't normally have breakfast as my coffee is 129 cals but today I had coffee with egg and toast, then bulgar wheat and marinated pork for lunch and a quesadilla for dinner. That's 1052 calories!!! But I don't snack tonight and it's only a little over 1000.

@whatthefoxsaid
I've made and then frozen a bunch of quesadillas that are 290cals each. Also sweet potato, coconut and chilli soup which is 190 cals a portion.

For non frozen but make-ahead I usually make a pot of bulgar wheat and red pepper then add feta cheese and pine nuts. That's 280 calories.
If any of those sound yummy I can type out how I made them for you.

TheInvestigator · 22/03/2019 18:18

*ate

whatthefoxsaid · 23/03/2019 06:38

Thanks for the ideas TheInvestigator I have some leftover wraps from fajitas so I'll have quesidillas today! Would love your soup recipe please!
I like cold cous cous/bulgar wheat when it's the packet mixes but I can never seem to get any flavour into mine when I make it myself, how do you do yours? I think I might need a really good stock cube?!
Time of the month for me which explains my carb and chocolate cravings. Going to start tracking it to see if there's a pattern, I don't seem to be settling on this pill.

pepguardi · 23/03/2019 07:39

I'm stuck at 9'5 and I just caaaaaannot get rid of anything else!

VivaFrida · 23/03/2019 19:42

Hi all, just sending a wave of encouragement to all! Congratulations all round for all the losses! Have people got to the 1/2 stone in March already?

How are you doing this weekend?

I have finished both days within budget and done a fair amount of moving around both days!

I am just back from the march in London (together with one million of other people! It was busy!) & to the theatre with my DS2 who studies drama whilst DH and DS1 we're enjoying the creative placards at the march. Went to to Chipotle and while the boys were shovelling burritos I had the 325 kcal vegan salad option and felt super virtuous!

I have clocked in 16,000 steps on top of short exercise session and spent a lot of time on feet so now recovering with mug of low-calorie hot chocolate and mini sugar free chocolate egg. Have a lovely Saturday night all!

ZsaZsaMc · 23/03/2019 20:40

Thanks for the encouragement @vivafrida - I was also at the march getting my step count up!

Unfortunately I’ve been less virtuous (I’ve not gone totally off the rails but eaten ‘normally’ including a slice of cake) but tomorrow is another day so will be back on it.

TheInvestigator · 24/03/2019 09:19

I've gone completely off the rails this weekend! Had a whole bar of galaxy salted caramel! But it's my period and I just hadn't prepared something to do to stop me eating the chocolate! I'm not going to bother with weighing tomorrow because with water retention and going over my calories there just isn't any point. I'm moving my goal to next week but hoping for an extra couple pounds as well.

cricketmum84 · 24/03/2019 10:00

I'm not doing too bad this weekend - it could be worse!

It was my daughters 10th birthday yesterday, we took her to the local ice cream parlour, I had a little tub of cookie dough and coconut iceream but only managed half of it before I started to feel a bit sick so gave the rest to my husband! I usually eat very low sugar and low carb so it was just too much sugar in one go for me!

Last night I did little plates of her favourite party food. Had one slice of pizza, a couple of cocktail sausages and quite a few crispy chicken strips.

I spent most of the day Friday baking her giant rainbow cake! She was over the moon with it last night. I still haven't eaten any of it though. Staying well away!!

Pamelaaa · 24/03/2019 10:39

Hi. I am very late to the party! I have lost 4lbs and would love to hit half stone by end of the month but not sure if doable. Have started some gentle exercise - just done 5 mile walk, and trying to change my diet but do miss diet coke. My tap water doesnt taste great. Any tips to help with this as dont wanf to be spending a fortune on bottled stuff

VivaFrida · 24/03/2019 13:14

Hi all!

zsazsa I am sure that one day eating normally hasn't done much damage! Glad you also enjoyed the march!

Pamelaaa Welcome! On your question, do you like herbal teas? I drink a lot of mint, fennel, nettle and other teas. Favourite brands are Pukka, teapots and Yogi tea but my local Aldi also sells infusions at a relatively good price.

pepguardi - for how long have you been stuck at 9 5'?

TheInvestigator and whatthefoxsaid - periods are just so difficult food wise aren't they? I get tearful, angry and just want to eat ALL the food beforehand. I can feel mine slowly approaching too as suddenly I have this craving for spinach and red meat and chocolate.

Right, my weekend is nearly over Sad as I am working "in the field" tomorrow so I am leaving for my hotel later this afternoon. Fortunately I am staying in a nice place so, apart from the travel there, I am going to consider the evening in the hotel as "me time" rather than pre-work, have a bath, watch something silly on netflix, relax, etc. If I feel particularly virtuous I may even do a yoga video.

Stay strong, all. We can do this. Chocolate does not own us.

VivaFrida · 24/03/2019 16:06

On train and was thinking, what are your assets for weight loss? lt's work using our strengths!

Mine are:

1- I like healthy food! Really do. Love all vegetables (spinach, tomatoes peppers and artichokes are favourites) and often prefer simple, low calories version of food than fat laden ones.

2 - I like exercise! I love everything active, be it bike, weights, aerobics, yoga or swimming. I love love love running when I am light enough for it and can't wait to be in running shape again.

3 - At the moment my job is both flexible and active - when I work from home I can always cut a corner of time to exercise, and when I am working out I do plenty of walking from a to b.

4 - If my head is in the right place (aha! big IF!) I am quite focused and not too fussed about food.

5- I know about nutrition and can cook well, very often cook from scratch.

What are your strengths and what works for you?

whatthefoxsaid · 24/03/2019 16:13

Periods are the worst. Since I had DD they seem to play havoc with my hormones more than they ever used to. I'll have a massive confidence crisis/cry for no particular reason, worry I'm becoming depressed then it arrives and I have a light bulb moment every month
Anyone got a cheap version of a fitbit they'd recommend? Only really bothered about step count. My phone does it but I rarely have it on me.
In terms of strengths, I'd say that I am a good cook and generally knowledgeable about food and flavours. That said, I don't always have the money/time/inclination to be very inventive!
I also actually like most vegetables and am happy enough with a mainly vegetarian diet, though DH isn't so we end up eating meat for most meals, albeit only a small amount e.g 120g mince between 3 of us.

VivaFrida · 24/03/2019 17:22

Hi

I have this one, it £25 and does the job, very simple to setup.

But I bought this one for my DH and going back I'd buy this one for me too as it's a much superior product for £32-someting, it's waterproof as well. It's more of a faff to set up though, you need to install 2 apps whereas mine only needs one app.

Half a stone off in March
Crazzzycat · 25/03/2019 10:43

Well done pepguardi. It must feel good to see those scales go down again!

I’ve now finished week 12 of my 12 week weight loss plan and lost a total of 9 kg/ just under one and a half stone and more than 4 inches off my waist.

I’m going to repeat the plan and hopefully the next time I finish it, I’ll be a healthy weight. I still have a stone to go, but I’m optimistic that I can easily lose that in 12 weeks. We’ll see...

pepguardi · 25/03/2019 10:51

@Crazzzycat thanks v much and huge well done to you too.

That's a great achievement! And you sound like you have such a positive attitude which always helps!

VivaFrida · 25/03/2019 18:52

pepguardi! Congrats!! Star

VivaFrida · 25/03/2019 18:53

And also to Crazzzycat! Well done both!
