Half a stone off in March

SingaporeSlinky · 01/03/2019 09:03

Carrying on from the February thread and new joiners welcome, fresh slate for March!

I’ve weighed in today at 10st 1lb so I’m determined to at the very least get down to 9-something this month! Ideally the half stone by the end of March when I go on holiday. Who’s in?

Also morning everyone!

Firstly - well done @investigator!! So good!

Secondly - has anyone on a
Low carb low cal diet had problems sleeping? I was awake for hours in the night and wonder if it was this (yesterday had a really too restrictive day to compensate for a piggy Saturday - so no proper carbs, no bread, pasta, potato etc.) so knackered today!

SingaporeSlinky · 18/03/2019 09:04

Well done TheInvestigator amazing loss in one week!

ZsaZsa I did have a terrible night where I didn’t get to sleep until about 4am, but luckily it was just one night. It was really unusual for me though so I put it down to diet too.

Japonica my weight loss has been mostly through calorie counting, some exercise, but could you maybe see a dietitian for proper advice considering the medical restrictions?

Amazing progress investigator - you deserve it- you've been so disciplined. At that rate you will def get to your stone very soon!

Ooh viva your exercise cave sounds well cool! Yes agree I think you have to analyse your habits and body tendencies and pick the optimal routine.

Zsazsa I had trouble sleeping when I did 5:2 fasting which was inevitably very low carb. I had this sort of panic feeling in my chest that I can't quite describe. I think I do better with limited 'good' carbs- eg a small grain based based item with 1-2 meals a day. I also use the Paul McKenna app at night which involves listening to a 20min 'night time hypnotic'. Bit faddy but gets me off to sleep every time!

Hi japonica and welcome- agree with zsazsa that control of diet is the most important thing in weight loss. I think if you just keep yourself moving but work really hard at the diet the weight loss should progress. I used to be a chronic over-exerciser but I generally ate back all the calories I burned. Key is getting into a calorie deficit which can be achieved through careful control of diet.

pepguardi · 18/03/2019 10:01

New week - good luck everyone!

AmIWelcome · 18/03/2019 10:14

I didn't post on Friday but weighed in at a 3lbs loss that takes me to the following:

25/2/19 - 17st3
15/3/19 - 15st11

Total lost - 20lbs

Didn't post Friday as felt for the extra cardio last week that loss didnt feel proportionate. However fresh week and over 1000kcal burned this morning hoping for better results this week.

Also, well done to all that have lost/met target that is awesome news :)

Crazzzycat · 18/03/2019 11:44

@VivaFrida I’m loving your positive attitude. There’s no point despairing at the state we got ourselves into. All that matters is what we’re doing to get ourselves out of it, right? Smile

This weekend was pretty hard going. For the first time in almost three months, I felt I could eat absolutely everything in sight. But I stayed reasonably strong and only went over by about 100 kcals on both days.

I was very pleased to still see a drop of close to two pounds this morning. A good reminder of what I’m doing this for and that the world doesn’t end if I go a little bit over my allowance

pepguardi · 18/03/2019 15:28

@AmIWelcome wow!

What are you doing to burn 1000kcl?

whatthefoxsaid · 18/03/2019 18:06

I've messed up big time, revising my target to just weigh less by the end of march, I don't care by how much!

SingaporeSlinky · 18/03/2019 21:26

I saw a mum on the school run this afternoon who I see fairly regularly, but as she saw me, she said she can’t get over how different I look and my face looks skinny now! I still don’t think I look that different, but it’s funny as we were just chatting yesterday about when weight loss becomes noticeable.
She’s very thin, a size 8-10 I would say, and yet she told me she posted a holiday photo of herself which she loves, and had 4 or 5 friends private message her to ask if she was pregnant! She just replied that she’d enjoyed her 2 weeks all inclusive, and it was clearly showing in her tummy. How awful though, so now she feels horrible about herself even though I would consider her skinny.

shakeapoo · 18/03/2019 21:55

@SingaporeSlinky that winds me up so much!!! What is wrong with people? Don't be nosy and don't ask people if they're pregnant! Why don't people know this?!

SingaporeSlinky · 18/03/2019 22:02

I know. I would never ask someone. If they are, they’ll tell you when they’re ready, I can’t believe 4 or 5 she said asked her. So of course she now has a complex about it and thinking she needs to diet.

Ugh this happened to me fairly regularly a few years ago (while I wasn't pregnant but carrying some extra lbs around my waist which is my problem area).it was always the 'speak first, engage brain later' type of person. And they'd always look so horrified when I said I wasn't that somehow I ended up feeling guilty for their embarrassment! ConfusedGrin

pepguardi · 19/03/2019 06:36

Weigh day!

I've put 1lb on! I'm 9st 5 now. Think that's a total loss of 12lbs so far but I'm pretty upset with my gain from last week...

Hopefully another 2lb off my the end of March..

AmIWelcome · 19/03/2019 09:28

@pepguardi - I use the "fat burning" setting on the treadmill and do between 45-60mins a day.

On the 45 min sessions I will run for all of the "decline" parts and then power walk the steep inclines. It's hard graft but I couldnt run the decline parts when I first started so seemingly I'm seeing results in my fitness :)

TheInvestigator · 19/03/2019 09:30

@pepguardi

I always found under 10stone and it was really hard to shift the extra lbs. It's been many years since I was in that position, but I remember those lbs being the hardest to get rid of. Don't beat yourself up over a 1lb gain and don't let it dishearten you!

AmIWelcome · 19/03/2019 09:31

@pepguardi don't be disheartened a 1lb gain could be attributed to lots of different things especially as it is such a small margin?

12lbs lost is amazing....that's very nearly a stone!

Im now 1st 6lbs down and people are regularly commenting "wow you look so different" so you must be pleased with yourself as 12lbs will show :)

pepguardi · 19/03/2019 09:38

@AmIWelcome wow, that's dedication! I really struggle on a treadmill as I lose focus and get bored. I've been doing couch to 5k which I've found to be great. Sounds like you're doing incredibly well, well done and thank you!

@TheInvestigator thanks. I hope so. I'm going to lie to myself and say I I've gained muscle through the exercising Hmm

TheInvestigator · 19/03/2019 09:45

@whatthefoxsaid

Just seen your post!! We all mess up but we can't exactly live our lives never having a treat. Just put it behind you and carry on. Still got plenty time left of March to get back on track.

thisonebreath · 19/03/2019 10:40

Hello and congratulations on the losses Funky and Slinky. I've taken a bit of a step back as I was getting a bit obsessive about dieting - and because I'm breastfeeding just ended up feeling really hungry all the time. Which makes me quite grumpy. (Hangry Grin ) Anyway, I've still lost 5lb this month just by cutting down on cake/biscuits and toast.

I'm not going to stress too much as I don't want to spend my last three months of maternity leave thinking about food) calories. And I know I keep the weight on till I cut down on breastfeeding - the same happened with DDs 1 & 2. Hopefully when I go back to work it'll be a bit easier. And I'm buggered for the next few days anyway as it's my birthday and I've been given several boxes of chocolates...and I'm out for a meal tonight. Smile

Keep on keeping on everyone.

TheInvestigator · 19/03/2019 12:51

Aaaaah! I'm having a hungry day. I'm at 508 calories, which is above my norm for breakfast and lunch, but I'm still hungry! I think I'm going to slip up today.

TickVG · 19/03/2019 17:01

Stay strong investigator. Even if you go say 200 over you will still be sustaining your progress. Congrats to all the losers! And yes, let's all keep on keeping on. Slight cheats on occasion/going over limits in a controlled way beats jumping off the wagon any day 😀

ZsaZsaMc · 19/03/2019 18:05

Weighing in today and I’m calling it -1lb. To be honest the scales have been all over the place so could be anything from maintaining to -2lbs, so taking an average! Andddd will weigh in again tomorrow.

Also feeling a bit demotivated today but I think I’m just tired. Need an early night I think!

TheInvestigator · 19/03/2019 18:05

I figured out that I just want warm comfort food, so I've made sausage rolls and weighed all the pastry and sausagemeat in each one. I can have one and it's 374 calories (big sausage rolls...).
So that's 882 for the day. I can wait 40 more minutes for them to cook I think!

ZsaZsaMc · 19/03/2019 18:25

I was thinking about beans on toast for dinner - less delicious but also strangely comforting!

TheInvestigator · 19/03/2019 18:27

Beans on toast is very yummy.... goes to see if I have enough calories for beans with my sausage roll
