It’s the shortest month of the year and Valentines Day is almost here.
Be good to yourself and lose this extra pounds and gift yourself the joy of meeting your goal.

I think with weigh ins it needs to be what works with you.

For me daily weigh ins were bad as I couldn’t get a loss every day. Having it on a Saturday morning means I can’t have my usual blow out on a Friday night and don’t start the weekend on Friday and finish it on a Sunday night.

readyforsunshine · 06/02/2019 07:19

Morning all & hello to lots of new February joiners.
After my flying start I’ve had a real stall, so boring & hard to stay interested but I must! I’ll be excited to get any sort of loss this month but would like to manage a lb a week average.
Am still menu planning but have lost a bit of interest & need some inspiration, it all feels a bit samey now.

lastqueenofscotland · 06/02/2019 07:44

Daily weigh ins work best for me and o think you see the overall downwards trend and don’t panic when a bit of water retention skews things

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 06/02/2019 07:52

I'm completely stuck on 11 3. I've been the same for 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to matter if I'm golden or if I eat all the food.

I'm thinking of trying a couple of fast days next week just to kick start things moving. It feels so hard to motivate myself at the moment.

I'm also very curious about the aerial silks.

PeachScone · 06/02/2019 07:57

Hi all, can I join? Currently 10st 4, started the year at 11 st. Haven’t lost anything the last couple weeks in fact I gained back a pound!!

Trying to refocus and cut back the snacking. Have been treating myself a little too often for going to the gym... ideally want to be down to 9st 10 by end of Feb! My BMI is currently just over 25, so got a long way to go yet.

QuimReaper · 06/02/2019 14:03

Gosh well done on a great start though Peach, that's impressive! I'm in Stucksville at the moment too so you and Kick and I can form a grumpy circle and hold hands until something moves Grin

I've started a cold and it's sooooo not making me feel like being Golden. I'm used to not caving and battling through fast days when I'm feeling ill, but I'm normally staggering towards the prospect of weekend carbs and chocolate, and I was planning a Sackcloth and Ashes weekend to finally kick the sticky Christmas Lindas. Not fair. Maybe I'll starve it away though...?

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 06/02/2019 22:28

Sad yes I've got the lurgy too quim. Not enough to justify a day off but enough to make me miss my run yesterday and swim today. I'm on a pathetic 4k steps today.

I just plan to get through the week and start again on Monday. Blush

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 07/02/2019 13:21

Quim my granny (a very wise woman) used to say that you have to feed a cold, but starve a fever. So I say go easy on yourself and pick the fast days back up when you feel a bit better.

That’s a brilliant start to the year Peach, well done! And welcome to the thread!

I have somehow managed to knock another lb off, which is fab. I think it may be because I’ve not had any alcohol in about three weeks, I reckon I’ve been consuming more wine calories than I’d realised.

QuimReaper · 07/02/2019 13:36

Spurious I've heard that expression! Interestingly I mentioned it on MN once and some users had interpreted it as 'by feeding a cold you starve a fever', i.e. you'd prevent it from escalating into something feverish, rather than that you should starve a fever no matter what. The 'feed a cold' bit was pretty unambiguous though. I've often wondered whether in a post-Moseley world there might be something to be said for starving a cold. Hasn't made any difference either way so far...!

I was just mooching around looking for something to eat, wanting something but not fancying something if you see what I mean. I unearthed an old Heinz cup-a-soup in some kind of Thai chicken (or "chicken") flavour which was surprisingly satisfying to a cold-ridden person.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 07/02/2019 15:16

Quim I guess it could be interpreted like that! Never really thought about it. I can imagine though that if you’re fighting off a cold you might be in need of extra nutrients, and that fasting might not be a good idea. I wonder if there’s research about it?

Foreverlexicon · 08/02/2019 07:59

@lucked yes that’s it! Sadly I’m neither graceful nor flexible but I’m pretty strong and I do really enjoy it.

I weighed yesterday and have lost 2 pounds. I was hoping for a bit more really given I had a major blow out the day before I started and was feeling very bloated but given I’ve had quite a lot on socially and done barely any exercise, I was pretty pleased.

Yesterday was a terrible day, I woke up very low about a recent break up and just comfort ate all day. Dusting myself off and carrying on today though!

QuimReaper · 08/02/2019 10:36

Spurious I confess I hadn't thought of it that way either, although come to think of it, I can't think why starving should cure a fever! It does seem instinctive that you'd need to eat to recover from a cold, I'm really just doggedly sticking to my plans in spite of current health woes Grin I had a half hearted look for research a while back but I think "fasting studies" are a comparatively new field, so they probably haven't got down to the dregs of common colds yet. Most of the articles were about the impact of regular fasting on things like cancer and cholesterol, and focused on extreme fasting like they do at those German clinics.

lexicon so sorry to hear about the break-up. I know what you mean about thinking you "deserve" a bigger loss but 2lbs is not to be sneezed at! (Although I've been sneezing six times a minute for about two days, so my perspective may be skewed Grin)

Autumnnymph · 08/02/2019 10:55

Hey all! How’s everyone doing ? Apologies for dropping off - it’s been a long and hectic week at work and am so ready for the weekend - my hope is to sleep through most of it but am sure that won’t happen 😂

I have managed to keep this week golden so far and am pleased with what the scales are saying with daily weigh ins. If I don’t blow it all up this week end next (birthday mid week) then I should hit my target next week and can focus on maintaining rest of the month.
I am going to start looking at weekly averages from this month. :)

I did not manage to regain control of my mouth yesterday. I’ve been on a tricky shift in regards to mealtimes and just wanted to stuff my face.

Now have a 4 day weekend but had to cancel my plans due to weather and an outbreak of equine flu so I’m looking at 4 rather long days and I’m not really sure what to do with myself

lastqueenofscotland · 09/02/2019 07:47

My weights got up a pound a day since Wednesday Angry trying to reassure myself this is water as I’ve been golden as fuck

Autumnnymph · 09/02/2019 09:40

@lastqueenofscotland that’s annoying and that was me last week ! It all came off suddenly though - when I have that weird gain it richer becase I am PMSIng or have t drunk enough water - in the latter case consciously drinking water seems to knock it off.

56 kg is very small
Why do these threads always attract the obsessive people

Dashel · 09/02/2019 10:17

I too have been guilty of emotional eating but so far this year I seem to be more in control of it. I think I have come to the sad realisation that if I continue to do it then the only person it hurts is me and I need to love myself not to over eat and put myself in the position I have been in for so many years of loosing and gaining the same few pounds.

I will share a link at some point but please google will Smith pizza self love video. It will help change how you think.

I have had lurgy this week so no exercise after My 3 mile run on Monday and I hardly moved yesterday. I lost half a pound this week meaning I have lost half a stone this year and I’m now on 11 Stone 3.5 pounds

For those of you who are interested there is a website called man vs fat and some of the forum threads on there are quite interesting particularly the I’m a personal trainer AMA

QuimReaper · 09/02/2019 11:08

Dashel you are doing so well, I'm so impressed with your dedication - half a stone off already is really terrific, and well done for losing even with the lurgy, I know from first hand experience how hard it is not to just curl up in a nest of carbs Grin

I'm soldiering through a Golden Weekend. Downed a couple of Night Nurse and slept like a log last night, and woke up feeling somewhat restored: yesterday I was sneezing and snotting constantly and today it seems to have moved to my chest, which is still annoying but less wearing, and means it's going in the right direction Smile I'm telling myself the absence of booze (sob) will mean it evaporates in no time!

I watched 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' for the first time in about 15 years last night. Among being struck by a) nostalgia for when Jonny Depp was hot and interesting, and b) the actual incomparable talent of Leonardo DiCaprio, which I'd forgotten about, I was struck by the depiction of the obese mum. There's a scene where she leaves the house for the first time in years and the entire town turn out to stare at her, people take pictures of her like she's a circus freak. It's a very sad and affecting scene, but I was thinking, "I saw someone that fat earlier this week" (admittedly in a wheelchair, rather than walking). It's pretty sobering that that level of obesity can go from truly startling (obviously I know it's fiction, but still) to fairly commonplace in the space of just 25 years; especially so as this film is set in America, which I believe was quite significantly ahead of the UK in the obesity epidemic.

Now it's a beautiful day here and I'm going to get some decent steps in for the first time this week! I had such good intentions yesterday but it rained incessantly and with my nose running like a tap it was just too miserable to tramp around in it, so I ended up having the worst day of the week step-wise. This cold (and the weather) has really stymied my efforts this week, I'm quite annoyed about it as I'm supposed to be really gunning for it.

P.S. I have reported the troll, please ignore them

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 09/02/2019 17:57

Quim wtf are you accusing me of trolling for pointing out an objective fact?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 09/02/2019 18:33

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes This thread is meant to be about supporting people to reach their goals. Everyone has different goals, and different ways to work towards them, and that will vary a lot depending on height, build, genetics, etc. 56kg may sound small to you, but for someone with a very petite frame it may not be. If you aren’t here to be supportive of everyone, may I suggest that you find another thread to post on?

Autumnnymph · 09/02/2019 19:24

@WithAllIntenseAndPurposes I know I don’t really need to explain my goals but Here goes - I am under 5 feet 2 inches and with a strong family history of diabetes AND having various medical complications -
I have been medically advised
To maintain a BMI of under 23 which for me
Is 56 kgs. Working in NHS as you indicated in some of your earlier posts you may be aware that people come in different heights and 56 is underweight for all heights. You could also try checking my height and current weight of 57kgs on NHS BMI calculator for someone of an
Asian heritage and see what it says.

Yea I am obsessed about maintaining a healthy weight and healthy bodies as much as I can.

Because you just read the OP and threw a snarky remark at the thread without taking a single second to investigate the context. Your contribution was brainless, pointless and deliberately provocative. So, yes, troll.

Autumnnymph · 10/02/2019 09:40

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. I have had a golden week and weighed in at 56.6 kgs this morning. That’s a loss of 0.4 kgs which isn’t a lot but enough to keep me happy. Another 0.6 kgs to go to meet my Feb goal. :)
