We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Should also have said: stay away from the continental breakfast buffet. I had the odd small pastry but for breakfast I mainly had cooked options with fruit

clucky3 · 29/07/2019 10:56

And well done on your loss so far. You've got this. 💪💪💪

vickibee · 29/07/2019 11:17

thanks @clucky3 that is sound advice it is whether one has the willpower to resist croissant at breakfast and choose the healthty option. I will aim for protein and veg / fruit as suggested and avoid the carbs.
Did anyone see the 'truth about carbs' on TV the other night, very interesting, apparently if you freeze your bread and make toast from frozen bread it becomes a good carb, same with other carb food like pasta etc it is on i player and worth a look

zinrepus · 31/07/2019 13:51

Back from 10 days in the US with my relatives and put on 3 pounds, which is infinitely better than expected. I'm getting a better sense of the food I need and what is unnecessary. DH and I are going to start up with our exercise again next week and he's finally accepted that we need to pay for a gym membership. I've also convinced him that the gym

3dogs2cats · 31/07/2019 18:38

Think I’m losing motivation. Came off quickly in June, but July was up and down, although I did lose almost 3 kilos in the end. Holiday on Friday and I will try to not put weight on.

QueenDreamer · 31/07/2019 20:24

Hi All

I'm going to join you if I can. I have about 150 lbs to loose (hideous I know).

As you weigh on a Friday / Saturday, I'll weigh myself Friday morning and go from there.

I can't put it off any more, so here goes Confused

moonlight1705 · 01/08/2019 16:48

Hi QueenDreamer we mostly weigh as and when but I tend to do mine on a Saturday morning, post-wee pre-tea.

I had a blip this week and put on 1.2kg which I am gutted about, I had a binge sort of week and just kept eating and eating. This week has been better and have walked loads so am hoping it will come off again.

QueenDreamer · 01/08/2019 18:06

Thanks @moonlight1705 I need to start as I'm probably heavier than I think. Will weigh tomorrow morning

QueenDreamer · 02/08/2019 09:49

First weigh in is as horrendous as I thought. 355 lbs.

I'm quite tall, and very sporty in a former life, so I'm ignoring the 'correct' BMI target of 161 and going for 196 for now, as I spent a lot of time at that weight and was really active and looked bloody awesome at 196.

That's still a massive 159 lbs to go - I've literally been carrying another person around for 10 years 😱

FlatheadScrewdriver · 02/08/2019 20:58

Hello All!

Used to be a regular, then name-changed...and got complacent so failed to realise how hard maintenance is! In the 18m up to last autumn, I lost 70lbs. I then got very stuck so from Jan decided to pause, hoping to gather some energy back up for the "last" 21lbs towards my goal.

Hmmm. Well, it's been up and down. I cannot yet quite face the scales but have braved the tape measure and have put on just under an inch round my middle (hips and legs seem to be unaffected so I'm putting that down to managing to sustain running 3x week!) I need to weigh but I will do it on a day when the numbers don't feel so much like a stick to beat myself with.

I decided 1st August was re-set button day. Yesterday was tough but alright. Today has been OK as was really busy so less time to fight against the urge to snack. Feeling a bit of energy and commitment creeping back in, yay!!

Well done to new/recent starters, and well done to everyone battling on for longer. I hope today has been a good day for all Smile

moonlight1705 · 03/08/2019 08:37

Welcome back Flathead maintenence must be so hard, we go all our lives trying to get there and then it's more work to stay.

I've STS this week, not wonderful but didn't put on. I'm off to the doctor next week to discuss my thyroid levels as think they have gone up again after pregnancy so fingers crossed this is the problem.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 03/08/2019 09:47

Forgot to put out frozen fruit to defrost last night for breakfast. Microwave's fine, right?!

moonlight1705 · 03/08/2019 11:03

Absolutely, do it all the time.

3dogs2cats · 03/08/2019 20:23

Hello moonlight and flathead. Hope you will breathe some life into this thread. I am on holiday this week, so no scales and lots of temptations. I am succumbing, but I’m also walking walking walking, so hope it will balance.. I think I have about 80 pounds to lose.

FlatheadScrewdriver · 03/08/2019 23:04

Evening 3dogs are you holidaying anywhere nice? Well done on the walking!

3dogs2cats · 04/08/2019 00:04

North Devon. I love it. Want to live here.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 04/08/2019 23:13

Evening!

Welcome back flathead. I've also been maintaining for ages now. I was really inactive last month as I've not been well. Got a bit bingey but not too bad and ended up staying pretty stable the whole time. I'm currently on 94lbs ish lost.

Went on a lovely long walk today, and if I feel ok tomorrow (I have an arthritic disorder) I'll go for a run in the evening.

In the meanwhile I've been volunteering at parkrun instead of running and had a lovely time. I'd definitely recommend it if you don't feel like running but value your parkrun.

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 06/08/2019 10:17

Well done honey for being stable - hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Glad you've kept going with the parkrun as a volunteer, it sounds as if you get so much from that.

I'm starting today doing a little of the 16:8 type dieting i.e. only eating between 11-7pm to curb extra snacking which has crept in. Its not meant to be strict but should limit calories of the snacking type. I've got a lovely big vegetable filled pasta salad for lunch.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 06/08/2019 22:28

Hi! Please can I join?

I'm currently 22lbs down in a 116lbs+ journey. I started at 22stone 4.5 and miraculously lost 3 stones during pregnancy and put nearly two back on since March. I have PCOS and Keto was recommended... which worked until my gallbladder flared and now I'm on a strictly low carb/low fat diet and following slimming world.

One of my biggest motivations is my 6 month old and I also can't wait to shop for expensive designer stuff... I've always been a cheap and cheerful girl when it came to my wardrobe because of my ever changing size.

I'm also going to be saving for the full body lift that I will likely need by the end. I'm 36 now and plan to be thin and fit by 40!

moonlight1705 · 07/08/2019 10:02

Hi anguarberwald - you sound like my double Grin I have a 6 month old, lost three stone after pregnancy and have put back on one. I am 35 and would also love to buy some nice non Asda clothes.

How is the low carb/low fat going? What types of thing are you eating at the moment?

FlatheadScrewdriver · 07/08/2019 11:05

Waves a welcome! I'm older than you and was over 40 when I started - you might get lucky with how your body adjusts in terms of skin etc. 70lbs down and my skin is alright really, and that's translated to roughly 10 inches off waist, same off hips etc. Perhaps a bonus to the fact that it's taken me ages Grin

If I can get through today (and please bear in mind I will be icing and then trying not to eat too much of DC's birthday cake) I will have done a full week back in the saddle. Whoop!

Unexpected bonus this morning was that a friend I run with in term-time suggested exercising at the playground, so our kids all played on the equipment and we jogged/skipped/lunged etc so they could still see us or call to us. It may not have been the most intense workout ever but it was more than I thought I'd manage with DC in tow! It was also quiet as we went early, so nobody to see or care.

Wish me luck with all the party food and icing...

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 07/08/2019 17:05

Hi Moonlight. It all going well. I've had mainly salads and lean meat plus a pork stir fry for tea last night. It's easy enough to follow but it's the snacks/desserts that ruin my good intention. As I'm weaning the baby I want to encourage healthy foods and snacks so that's a good incentive I suppose!

Flathead... I want to be lucky with the skin but I'm afraid I know it won't won't happen. I'm really saggy after the baby and I've got many inches to lose so I think a tummy tuck with a bonus boob job might be in order!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/08/2019 19:57

angua I let fear of saggy skin stop me from seriously dieting for years. At 95 ish lbs down, I've got bingo wings, and my thighs are saggy. But oh my gosh life is soooo much better. Maybe one day I'll have a lift on my legs, but honestly it's not a big issue. When I'm fully dressed you wouldn't know, and my style is quite retro 50s, so things tend to be knee length or longer anyway.

Honestly, losing this sort of weight is ife changing. A bit of saggy skin no-one can see anyway is more than worth it.

Thanks Moonlight, I'm still a bit up and down but managing to exercise and keeping eating more under control than last month, so yay! Hope you find the selective fasting helpful.

Thanks Honeysuckle. I think there is a bit of a mental block there but I agree, time will tell!

3dogs2cats · 07/08/2019 22:23

Wow so many inspirational stories on here.
I have no. Idea how I’m doing as I’m on holiday and have no scales.
I am eating fish and chips and pasties, ice creams and Devon cream teas. I am trying not to snack and I am walking up and down hills and across bouldered beaches, and sea swimming, so I hope it’s balancing. Home on Friday.
