Anyone starting a new diet tomorrow? Want to be diet buddies? Im 14st7lb my heaviest ever at 5ft4. Need some motivation and willpower. Going to be doing meal substitution with shakes twice a day to kickstart my diet. Was meant to start early in January but it didn’t happen and I’ve slipped. Will be doing My Fitness Pal too.

2angelbabies · 24/01/2019 23:33

Welcome 2angel!

I love this thread. It’s so friendly and relaxed yet everyone is doing really well!

tinsel, tbh, how often do you get to go on a spa weekend with friends? I think enjoying yourself, (sort of in moderation obviously), is absolutely the best policy.

I am going to buy new bathroom scales today as mine are clearly not working, as they have me at 11 stone 9, when I was 12 stone 4 at the GPs. Unfortunately, I am sure it IS that the scales are broken, as I’ve had a few occasions where I’ve weighed myself on someone else’s scales and been taken by surprise!

Will weigh in again tomorrow when I have the new scales.

I am meeting my best friend for lunch tomorrow as well. I don’t get to see him often, so we will be having a nice lunch and a drink. NOT though, a big pile of chips and six drinks! He’s on a health kick too, so that helps.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend planned.

boggle, are you finished with hospital appointments for the weekend? I hope so.

MrsMummyBx · 25/01/2019 09:05

Welcome to our little group 2angels!

I’m off up north for a night and staying in a B&B, going to resist the “full English” tomorrow morning somehow!! I’ve had my breakfast shake on the train so trying to be good today. Will also have a shake for dinner and perhaps allow myself a treat for lunch.

Chubsy- these are the sort of scales I need! Ones that give me a better result than the reality :-)

Boggle- sorry to hear about your little man going through the wars, sounds like a very brave little boy!

By the way everyone, I think all your support is definitely helping me stick to my diet. Normally I would really be wavering by now (only 5 days in!!) but I feel committed to sticking to my goals and if I have a little treat along the way, it’s nothing bad, just have to get back on it afterwards! So thank you!!

Hi Angel!

I agree everyone, this group is great as there's no guilt and we've made some pals Grin

Chubsy you are more mature than me as I would just take the loss and run with it!! Enjoy your lunch with your friend, you deserveeee the drink after our first week!

MummyB, that is excellent self restraint and just goes to show you are doing the right thing as you feel positive about it Smile same here. Definitely allow yourself the treats! What shakes are you on again? Are they nice?

YouBoggleMyMind · 25/01/2019 10:43

Morning ladies,

I've started off my day with toast. I don't usually have breakfast but I needed it this morning. I'm out with my Cousin this evening so being good will go out the window!! It doesn't help on ADs that's main side effect is increased appetite and carb cravings Sad I'm weaning off them now so hoping it'll help but it's defo already done the damage, along with me not helping.

Yes, no more appointments for the timing being. We usually have physio once a month and we've been discharged by the dietician and audiology. In May we should be discharged from Orthoptics so the list is getting smaller!

MrsMummyBx · 25/01/2019 11:04

Tinsel - I’ve tried quite a lot of different shakes, obviously they aren’t like having a proper ice cream milkshake (yummm) but I like the taste of ForeverLite ones but they are pricey and I don’t think worth it given the price. Currently using some my hubby got as part of an IsoGenix package- I don’t rate them or the plan so I’m taking bits and pieces from it.
Usually I use SlimFast as it’s easy to get anywhere. But my top for price / taste balance is Tesco- they do a chocolate one in sachets in a box that’s only about £2.50 or something similar.

Chubsy- sounds like things are on the up, that’s great news.

Does anyone have thyroid issues like me??

Hi all - Can I join the thread, even though I'm a bit late starting here?

I'd previously lost around 6lbs in November, which has stayed off, but nothing since.

Had a check up at the doctors yesterday and she said I was 8kgs heavier than I had been the previous year not what I wanted to hear.

So back on plan as of yesterday - with an aim of 17lbs to lose.

I'm in my 50s and losing weight ain't what it used to be ie seems a lot harder now!!!

ChubsyMcChubFace · 25/01/2019 13:44

Hi outreach!

Ugh, I know how you feel with docs telling you you’ve gained some weight. I know people don’t like it, but thank god they told me my actual weight when I last saw them. Otherwise, I’d have thought I was still a healthy weight, thanks to dodgy scales Hmm.

I managed to get to 1pm before I consumed any calories, as planned, but then I ate too much 👎🏻. I had three samosas and a HUGE tuna mayo sandwich before I knew what I’d done. Didn’t help I was wrangling children and really just wanted to enjoy my first meal of the day. Something to think about for the future I think; have some healthy, delicious meals made in advance so when I stop fasting I can eat them immediately instead of faffing about while nibbling.

I have the new scales in my possession. Part of me doesn’t want to get on them as I quite like my (lying bastard) old scales... Grin.

Will weigh in tomorrow morning 🤞.

Justneedakindwordortwo · 25/01/2019 13:47

Day 5 on cambridge and ive lost 4.5lb but feeling meh about it. I was living in dream land and expected to be 10lb lighter by Sunday and more likely to be 5ish ... still its 5lb less than Monday so trying to keep going!

ChubsyMcChubFace · 25/01/2019 13:48

No, mummybx, I don’t have any thyroid issues that I know of. That, and also boggle’s ADs which increase appetite, must make things an awful lot harder.

ChubsyMcChubFace · 25/01/2019 13:51

That’s fab just! Well done!

2angelbabies · 25/01/2019 14:38

Has anyone tried fruits only diet ?

ChubsyMcChubFace · 25/01/2019 15:02

No I have not 2angel. I had to google to see what it was!

I would definitely give it a go for a very short while. Would you do it as a detox type thing or a more permanent lifestyle change?

I've put on so much weight since April 17. It's depressing. I'm more fat now than I was when I was 9m pregnant. I just have no will power. My Mum is slim and "fatist" so she's no support really. Just makes me feel bad and she picks at my DF all the time too. They're away for 5 weeks from 5th Feb so I may see if I can lose a chunk of weight in that time so she notices when they're back!

ChubsyMcChubFace · 25/01/2019 16:36

Ah boggle, that’s so tough Flowers. Re your mum; you know it’s HER issue and not your weight that is the problem though don’t you? Weight comes and goes for all of us. But if someone is a genuine fattist, that’s a problem which they cannot diet away imo.

I hope she starts being more supportive of you, especially with what you’ve been through.

Classic mumsnet armchair psychiatrist here; but do you think her “concern” about your weight is her way of distracting herself from the more important stuff you’ve had to deal with recently? Just a theory!

recklessgran · 25/01/2019 18:55

Hi everyone - please may I join? I can't tell you how pleased I am to have found you guys as I thought I was doing this on my own.
Background is that I started on Monday - weigh in 14 st 1lb .Ashamed. I am doing "The Reckless Diet" i.e. made up by me using various strategies of other diets. Anyhow, it seems to be working as I have lost 5lbs since Monday somehow. So, eating within a 6 hour window [18;6] and a kind of 5:2 but actually a 4:3 and eating very low calorie on the non fast days [apart from today's fall -see below!]
Feeling pleased with myself so far but NOT smug as I have been here so many times before.
I am very lazy and work from home sat at a desk all day and in any case hate exercise of any sort. [Sorry all you active people!]
Been out for lunch with Bestie today and had bacon and egg sandwich and JD and coke in the pub so counting that as a big fat fail.
Have made a lovely lasagne for DH but will be virtuous and have stir fry veg, bean sprouts and a small piece of fillet steak for my dinner.
Never manage to stick at this diet lark for very long as so fond of cooking and eating lovely food. Really hope the support here will change that and make me feel at least a little accountable either way.
Good luck everybody and thanks @MrsMummyBx for starting this thread!

MrsMummyBx · 25/01/2019 21:47

@reckless and @outreach- welcome!

Just and Reckless it sounds like you are doing well with you lbs off!

I’ve had a bit of a bad day diet wise today. I’ve been travelling most of the day- had a shake for brekkie, sausage roll for lunch and fish and chips for dinner argh! The B&B I’m staying at included a full English tomorrow and I am really struggling with turning down that brekkie in favour of something more healthy...how to you all stay on track in these situations??

OP posts:
Bacardi101 · 25/01/2019 21:54

Hi recklessgran you sound like you know what your doing! I’d forget my fasting window and end up eating all day! And given your lunch it could of been an awful lot worse!

Bacardi101 · 25/01/2019 21:56

OP I never do and this is my problem! But in my head I always think I’ll pick the healthy option and ask for scrambled egg and beans but I never do!!!
