I joined online 2 weeks ago. Lost 3lbs so far! Have been checking for a support thread on here for a while!

Celery · 29/06/2007 13:39

There was one a while back, it must have fizzled out.

I've been WWing since the beginning of March and lost 17 pounds. Been at a bit of a stand still for the last few weeks though - putting the same couple of pounds back on and off. I need to get motivated and get going again.

Flumpybumpy · 29/06/2007 13:41

Is this the WW support thread then or shall we shall an appropiately named thread???

FB x

BernieBear · 29/06/2007 13:46

Let's use this one then. Congrats on your loss so far Celery - any secrets/recipes you can impart will be great. Am getting a little bored with stirfrys. I have 18lbs to lose at least. Am off to take ds swimming now, back later

Celery · 29/06/2007 13:58

I still have about 8 pounds to lose, although I'm pretty happy with my current size/weight - I guess that's why I'm at a stand still, but I would quite like to lose the last half a stone!

What worked for me was making sure I saved enough points for snacks and treats - I suffer from low blood sugar if I don't eat every 2 or 3 hours. And the low fat frozen puds keep me sane. I have one most evenings - either a WW one, or a skinny cow one.

A typical day would be

Breakfast: Special K peach or red berries with skimmed milk - 2 points

snack: 2 ryvita with extra low fat cheese or an Alpen light bar - 1 or 2 points

Lunch: home made soup ( 0 points ) with ryvita ( 1 point ) or a sandwich ( up to 4 or 5 points )

snack: fruit or ryvita.

Dinner: What I've always cooked really, but paying careful attention to portion size ( I eat much less pasta and rice than I used to ). And I bulk out with vegetables, and instead of using oil to cook with, I use Frylight spray which is 0 points. I make homemade chips with this out of potato or butternut squash ( 0 points ), and lots of other roast veg. Instead of creamy or cheesy sauces, I stick to tomatoey ones. So we usually have home made curry, spag bol, pasta with prawns, low fat sausages with veg and rice, chicken breasts with veg, stir frys - all the usual stuff.

What really helped me was eating at 5.00pm with the kids instead of waiting to eat with DH in the evening - this stopped me getting hungry in the afternoon and binging. Then I usually just have a quick snack or a treat in the evening.

Exercise and lots of water also really makes a difference.

MadLabOwner · 29/06/2007 19:44

Ooh great a WW thread, just what I need!

Celery, you may have just inspired me to get back on the old tracking bandwagon again....I joined WW in May, lost 12 pounds then went on holiday for over two weeks. Gained 3 pounds as holiday was in UK and needed to eat to keep warm! Now at home again and struggling a bit to regain motivation to track points properly again....

Have done Ok today so far, stirfry planned for dinner if DH ever comes home

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 08:49

Made a turkey curry yesterday as a change from stir fry. Celery - those Skinny Cow lollies are great and really do feel like a treat. I quit smoking 8 weeks ago so treats are what I need at the mo otherwise I get tempted to cross over to the "dark side" again. Mini crunchies have also been a life saver at 1.5 points each for treat time!

Does anyone have any ideas about exercising for a single mum with a 3 year old who can't get out in the evenings. Pre ds I used to run (ran marathon in 2000), but am pretty stuck now in the evenings. I am a dog walker too so do get out walking a lot, but the speed and intensity depends upon the dog iyswim and my regulars are more into meandering rather than hiking

Twiglett · 30/06/2007 08:55

is this one .. been going a week lost 1/2 pound can't seem to stick to it

I'm crap

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 08:58

but you lost 1/2 a pound and didn't put it on. That is good. Well done

Carmenere · 30/06/2007 09:17

AHA!!!
Right i've been doing WW for about a month. The first week I went to visit LGJ for the weekend and put on 1.5lbs(I don't think I'd gotten hte hang of it ). I've missed the last two weeks due to being on holiday but I don't think I've gained anything as I have tried to stick to the plan(apart from far too much wine once or twice).

What I think would be really useful is a thread to share low-point foods that aren't revolting(or should I say bearable). Good tip re mini Crunchies btw.
For example, I was stunned to find that the hellmans fat free salad dressing is just about ok, which means that a salad can be point free or just one or two if you want to add some olives or a bit of cheese.

Or crabsticks, normally they are the work of the devil but on WW 3 of them only cost 1/2 a point, which makes them great snacks if you don't have a sweet tooth.

Also the WW Danish malted bread is ok(made by Wharburtons) and just 1/2 a point per slice.

OK what else is ok??

Twiglett · 30/06/2007 09:24

crabsticks {gag} .. did you say crabsticks .. do you KNOW how they make them?

I'll tell you something yummy

Roast veg
chop aubergine, courgette, pepper, onion, fennel, cherry tomatoes (skinned) and shove in a roasting tray .. sprinkle liberally with garlic and basil (dried or fresh) spray lots with the one-cal spray stuff and mix well

roast in oven at 180 for 20 mins .. then stir and respray and then for another 20 mins .. they should go blackened

have in pita bread (2.5pts) with light philli (1 pt) and loads of roast veg (warm or cold 0 points)

put rest in fridge and eat in sandwiches

or put into tin tomatoes add basil and oregano and rosemary and a little more garlic and simmer for 30 mins and voila point free pasta sauce when whizzed, or have it over rice / couscous or in baked potato

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 09:25

Good idea Carmenere - Skinny Cow Triple Choc frozen lollies - 1.5 pts. Love them so much but do have a tendancy to give me erm...... wind! Probably some hideous sweetner in them but damn when I need a treat, I really need a treat right now. What else.....loving the Weight Watchers lemon slices at 1pt.

Mmm, looks like I have exchanged smoking for sweet treats. Will go and find some more healthy low point foods...anyone else?

Carmenere · 30/06/2007 09:31

Oh no, I know what is in the crabsticks but my days of being selective are over due to the excess 3 stone of weight I've put on as a result of farmhouse cheeses mainly.
Joking aside, for me dieting does mean I have to get over the fact that not everything I put in my mouth is going to taste good. That and the fact that feeling hungry isn't an emergency situation that needs to be solved by cheese

The roast veg thing is great Twig and exactly what I had last night for dinner

Butternut squash curry is another fab no point dinner(well apart from the rice)

rnbsmum · 30/06/2007 09:32

How great we've got a ww thread! I've been doing ww for 4 weeks and have lost 8.5lb. Mind you, had been weighing myself at a friends and when I bought my own scales they weighed 2lb heavier! I think alpen lights are 1.5 not two according to my points calculator. Only .5 point difference but it all adds up! Don't shoot me if I've remembered that wrong! Now that walkers have lowered their fats, French Fries and Quavers are 1.5 for a crisp fix. I'm loving crumpet for breakfast too 1pt and .5 for low fat spread. Any dinner recipes gratefully recieved. Grilled meats with salads are ok at the moment but think I may get bored soon!

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 09:33

What is in Crabsticks - had one a few years ago, but had heard they were low points. Is it something hideous?

Twiglett · 30/06/2007 09:33

recipe please carmenere

Carmenere · 30/06/2007 09:34

They contain fish sludge and sweeteners all held together with starch -mmmm

whoops · 30/06/2007 09:36

I'm another ww follower I've lost 25lb since April I had lost 28.5 until I put on 3.5lb this week but I have since been ill and lost another 12lb this week according to the scales at the gym!
I eat snacks like french fries and jaffa cakes if I want to nibble something mid morning. I am signed up to esource too so if you need any help calculating points let me know!

Carmenere · 30/06/2007 09:41

Ok for the curry, it is important to use curry powder as opposed to paste as there are quite a few points in paste as it is preserved in oil. I make my own curry powder with cumin seeds, coriander seeds, tumeric, dried chillies, mustard seeds and garam masala, oh and a touch of cinnamon. However bought curry powder will be fine too.
So chop up onions, garlic, ginger, squash, peppers, whatever no point veg you have actually and sautee them in frylight stuff. Add the curry powder and tomato paste(I often add in a handful of red lentils at this stage which are one or two points but thicken it nicely). Sautee it a bit more stirring all the time. Add some vegetable stock and at this point I add tamarind which give a fab sweet and sour flavour. Let it all simmer for about 30 minutes and just before serving add salt and pepper and a handful of spinach. Serve with rice and 0%fat yoghurt.

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 09:48

28.5lbs Wow. Brilliant.

I use a portion of rice noodles (2 pts) in my stir fries. Love them too.

What is everyone's exercise details? any good ideas for exercise at home.

Carmenere · 30/06/2007 09:52

Oh yes pad thai is only 5.5 points and is totally delicious.
wow 28lbs Whoops, respect - you can be the patron saint of this thread

Quattrocento · 30/06/2007 09:52

I thought that crab sticks were made out of tripe?

I'm another ww follower The problem is that I can never get to my meeting because I work long and irregular hours. Does anyone do the online thing? Is that any better?

Despite not being able to get there, I've lost 23lb since April. I need to lose another 8 lbs to get comfortably back into a 12. Am hoping this thread can help!

I don't eat snacks, but I do have to eat out reasonably regularly. People ALWAYS eat at least two courses and socially it seems so difficult to pass one course and have a starter sized portion for the other. It's making losing that last half stone truly difficult.

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 09:56

Yes, I do it online. It seems fine so far but have only been doing it a short time. With all the best will in the world I couldn't make a meeting. I worked it out to be cheaper too.

Quattrocento · 30/06/2007 09:57

Bernie, can you track your weight loss on there?

BernieBear · 30/06/2007 10:02

Yes you can. It has a chart which shows the ups and downs. You weigh once a week and input your weight and it changes your weekly points allowance based on your weight, lifestyle changes (i.e. mainly sitting down, standing up, active etc.). Also you can track your activity points and "bank" any leftover points and activity points at the end of the day.

At first it doesn't appear too user friendly but after a few goes it sinks in.

My only reservation is that they do not clearly state portion sizes. i.e. what is a large portion of rice? Maybe I am doing it wrong or haven't found that bit yet.

The site is pretty extensive. There are also noticeboards - but not so good as this one
