I wish MrQuim liked Indian food, those recipes look amazing! To be fair I'm not mad about it myself but I do love paneer palak and dhal, and love the idea of tofu palak.

I've smashed it today Smile My class was cancelled so I got over 24K steps (well, 19K and rather a lot of hula hooping!) and now having miso soup. I'm out tomorrow so trying to really go for it to keep momentum going. I'm hoping to lose 300g to see a lower kg number on Friday morning.

Autumnnymph · 14/01/2019 21:13

@Quim if it’s the richness or spiciness that puts you off - home cooked Indian food tastes different from the takeaways.

A friend of mine doesn’t like food a curry house but insists I cook Indian when she comes over.

Though I have been on an Indian food binge recently - I don’t make Indian all that often - I recently realised however how much easier it is to eat healthy on a South Indian diet.

Pooh I need to join this and stick to it!! I weighed myself this morning and I’m horrified. I’ve been trying to lose weight for probably 10 years but definitely at my heaviest now and so unhappy with my appearance and self esteem. I’ve tried WW, Slimming World, Slim Fast, Calorie Counting.. I just don’t stick to anything. So this time I’m just trying to eat sensibly, stick to recommended portion sizes (I.e weighing pasta and rice etc) and incorporating more veggies and less processed food.

I can’t exercise a lot as recovering from a broken ankle so wary of doing much more than walking. But trying to walk more this week.

Fingers crossed I can stay on track!

poorpaws · 14/01/2019 23:20

Welcome @Raven.

Really went for it last week and have lost 4 lbs. I realise it’s because it’s my first week but I’m much happier. I haven’t really seen a loss since last June 🙄

Good luck to everyone for a good week.

stellar42 · 15/01/2019 07:37

That's my New Years resolution to stop buying so many books scuppered! Hairy veggies added to list. Looks great.

Well done poorpaws.
I've lost 4lb.
This weeks mantra for me is drink water. I'm bad at it and my job means I can't just go to the loo whenever I want to.

QuimReaper · 15/01/2019 10:57

Autumn I can well believe that; it is indeed a combination of richness and spiciness that puts me off on the whole. I can eat it and enjoy it (there are a couple of a gorgeous vegetarian Indian restaurant in London which I've been to and enjoyed several times) but in the Brick Lane type places I often find the food just overwhelming. I should really experiment with making my own.

Welcome Raven! Broken ankle sounds nasty, how did you do that? Sensible eating and lots of walking sounds like a great common sense approach, I think you'll be grand.

poorpaws and stellar cor, well done on the losses! That's great! The water drinking / constant peeing thing is a real conundrum, isn't it. It's a while since I worked in an office environment but I actually found it very dehydrating (for whatever reason) and often got headachey as it was such a pain to get to the loo. Same story when I spend long stretches of time in the university library, as there used to be just one loo about half a mile from the reading rooms - I had to try and reframe each pee break as "a short burst of exercise" which you're always advised to do to maximise your brain's efficiency, otherwise it got on my nerves too much.

Autumnnymph · 15/01/2019 11:06

@quim I can’t stand
The brick lane kind of “curry houses” - they aren’t really authentic and drowned in so much flavour you can’t really Taste any flavour.

OP posts:
QuimReaper · 15/01/2019 13:07

drowned in so much flavour you can’t really Taste any flavour.

That's spot on! Too sweet, too spicy, too hot, too rich, it just feels like an uncontrolled explosion, and is at once overwhelming and curiously forgettable. I can easily see how some go mad for it, but it stresses out my palate. The food at Sagar, for instance, is more rustic, and appeals to me much more - I can actually remember specific dishes rather than just a riot of flavours, and find myself thinking "man this is delicious, I'm having more of that" which I can't say I've ever thought when my head is spinning from sensory overload.

Dashel · 15/01/2019 15:38

You are making me very hungry!

My willpower is always at its lowest when my hubby is away and it’s another week where he is away two nights so I am posting on here to acknowledge that.

I want to get on that scale on Saturday morning and know that I have done my best rather than my normal routine of cheating with a box of donuts and then crying. This year I want to make a change and form long term habits which lead to me loosing the weight once and for all.

On the good news I did a 5km run on Sunday and am going to my local running group tonight and doing a time trial 😳

It’s like being back at school, maybe next week it will be a beep test 🤪

readyforsunshine · 15/01/2019 17:01

Stay strong dashel💪
Why do you think you turn to food when he’s away? Is it to cheer you up or because you can eat what you want on your own? Maybe if you am work out what’s driving it you can make a change.

Autumnnymph · 16/01/2019 07:55

Went off track yesterday - had a sore throat and was feeling quite hormonal - the food stayed healthy but lots of mulled cider was had last night. I am not much of a drinker at all so it’s an aberration for me.

Obviously the weighing scale showed me that I had gained a kilo overnight which I know is the alcohol ! Will get back on it from today.

At an interview most day today so will catch up later tonight. Have a fab day everyone !

OP posts:
readyforsunshine · 16/01/2019 09:33

Good luck with the interview. I’m up this morning after a new low on the scales yesterday.

QuimReaper · 16/01/2019 14:12

Sigh. Last night was a bit of a waste of calories. Food wasn't too bad - one glass of Champagne, two glasses of wine and an ice cream, and dinner was mainly protein and veg. The theatre was great but MrQuim forgot his glasses and couldn't see anything Hmm I just wanted a run of Golden Weeks to get my enormous belly to go down a bit!

I think I've scheduled a Golden Sprint in for the week after next though, which should sort it!

Hoolahoophop · 16/01/2019 20:28

Autumn thanks for all the amazing looking recipies.

I'm also a hairy dieters fan, never had a bad meal from their books and never feels like diet food.

I'm totally stuffed from a huge bowl of venison casserole. No portion control but I think quite healthy as basically lean meat and loads of veggies.

I had forgotten how fast this thread always moves. But congrats for the losses. Love the talk of the evil corporations selling us junk. So true and I hate being manipulated so that turns me off the 'treats'

Dashel · 16/01/2019 21:34

Keep strong everyone, we can all do this!

Yesterday I was very good food wise and went to my fitness group and did a two mile run without stopping and I guess I have been a bit scared of doing it as it’s part of the intermediate class not the beginners and I have never thought of myself as a runner or sporty.

Today I had a packet of crisps and the old thought processes were coming in- now I’m off the wagon I will give up or open more foods and pig out. However I didn’t and I’m at 1500 calories so it’s not a disaster.

When my DH is away, I guess I feel that food comforts me and cures the boredom. It’s a good question and one I will ponder on I think.

readyforsunshine · 16/01/2019 21:48

Well done today dashel🙂

Well done @dashel ! Am a boredom eater as well so I totally know what you mean.

Interview went very well AND I GOT THE JOB!!!!! I am so excited as they have agreed to let me know work from home twice a week.

Today wasn’t bad food wise - they took me out to lunch at Mildred but I stayed sensible and possibly because of nerves didn’t eat too much! I have possibly had too many roasted peanuts !

I also didn’t have any celebratory alcohol. I start the new job in a little over a week.

Dashel · 16/01/2019 22:25

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations on getting the job Autumn, that is great news and well done on not having a blowout celebration with booze 😇

For those of us weighing in, just remember scales day is closer than you think and all the vigilance and effort will be worth it in the end. Think how good it will feel to get under that next marker- whether it’s under a half stone or a dress size dropped or realising you need your new jeans because they are too big.

Keep going and be strong!

QuimReaper · 17/01/2019 00:11

WOW, well done Autumn! Congratulations, that's so exciting! Mildred's is all mega healthy anyway, isn't it? And I'm in awe of no celebratory booze, that seems a bit wrong Grin Seriously, I'm thrilled for you.

Dash well done to you too, a 2 mile run definitely warrants a bag of crisps! Being able to have a treat without going all in is definitely a challenge, so well done.

I had the worst day ever. I was freezing and yawning so went out for a coffee; got caught in a TORRENTIAL sudden downpour, like one of those completely instant and Biblical sky dumps, ran back, went to wring myself out, put my coffee down, and... spilt it all over the floor SadSadSad I was DRENCHED and all for nothing! I had to go home I was so wet and freezing, my feet were blue when I took my soaking shoes off. My only single consolation is that I probably dodged a couple of hundred calories, but it sculppered my steps so maybe evened out!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 17/01/2019 07:10

Autumn that's great news FlowersStar. How exciting. That's a quick start too.

I'd never heard of Mildred's. I don't think we have such things in the north. It looks lovely. One to try next time we're in the big smoke.

Quim is it wrong that I laughed a bit. Grin I hope today goes better and you manage to enjoy your coffee.

Dash well done to you too. Sounds like you're getting in the zone.

I could out yesterday that my cholesterol is slightly high. Only 5.6 but still a bit worrying coupled with high blood pressure. Yet another motivation to sort my diet out. Has anyone else had high cholesterol and managed to bring it down?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 17/01/2019 07:45

Congratulations on the new job Autumn!

Quim that sounds horrible, I would have cried if I’d spilt my coffee!

I love Mildred’s, my sister works just round the corner from the one in Soho so that’s our standard meet-up place Smile

Glad you are managing not to slide off the wagon dashel!

I’m still chugging along, weighed in at 8 stone 12 this morning so moving in the right direction. It helps that I’ve been working in one of the busiest departments that my job covers this week, so the days go by so fast and I don’t really have much time to eat. Pretty sure that’s a solid diet tip there, get a job that ensures you are too run off your feet to go for lunch Grin

Autumnnymph · 17/01/2019 09:20

Thanks all! After 2 months of enjoying staying at home, I am ready to get my feet back on the ladder.

@Quim sorry I did laugh a bit. I think I had that torrential sudden downpour yesterday when I stepped out of Mildreds (and ofcourse I didnt have an umbrella, just after having sold my planning and preparedness skills :P )

@Kick Mildred's is quite nice. :)

I have gained a teensy bit more and weighed in at 57.5 this morning. I really want to get off the 57 mark and it is the one goal I always seem to struggle with. Seriously considering some kind of quick crash for a few days to get off of it. I am considering a soup diet next week to help me along. I have done that in the past and its helped me reset.

Have a fab day everyone!

OP posts:
QuimReaper · 17/01/2019 12:43

Spurious I nearly did cry! And Kick and Autumn you beasts Grin I did chuckle later though, I really was so comically wet, my hair stuck to my head like a drowned rat and my feet squelching in my shoes, and then me trying to mop up an enormous river of coffee all over the floor of the loo with a wad of tissue paper...!

I am cautiously optimistic for a good weigh-in tomorrow in spite of Tuesday's session Smile

Dashel · 17/01/2019 14:46

I’m not sure I could stick to a soup diet without sleeping pills as I can’t sleep when I’m really hungry.

Autumn you will do it you need to have faith in yourself and trust that if you continue to stick to your diet then it will come.

I have fit club tonight and forgot to bring my snack in so i went to the local shops and cake away with a bananaGrin

I was feeling very virtuous and almost looking forward to weigh in on Saturday. I know there are no guarantees but I have been really good with diet and exercise
