Hi everyone
Weighed in yesterday and down 1lb to 9st 11. Happy with that as have PMS bloating so hopefully see more of a loss next week. Have stuck to MFP which seems to be the best thing for me. Helped by 13 mile hike mid week!

Koko what do you think of it?

I've only read the free bit on Amazon. I decided to buy a paper copy so I can lend it to my friend after I've read it.

I feel like I need to get things under control now. I'm in that horrible stage where I am feeling like I'm depriving myself but not actually seeing any results on the scales. It makes it too easy to lose heart.

Morning all, hope you’ve had good w/Es.
I was looking back through my mfp history & it’s depressing how I’ve started each year heavier since 2012. I’m not a regular user I just dip in for a bit of a reset, usually at the beginning of the year!!
We’ve passed the traditionally tricky throw in the towel w/e. I’m just trying to take difficult days when willpower is weak 1 day at a time. Ie tell myself I can have (wine!) tomorrow, just get through today, then the same the next day!

Dashel · 14/01/2019 08:49

Like many of you I have also gone up and down but I believe the key to success is perseverance and education.

I think that there is a general belief that a diet is where you deprive yourself of all the goodies that are out there, but the truth is that we shouldn’t be eating that crap at all. Companies spend a fortune on marketing products that in anything other than very occasional use cause us to be ill through obesity, heart disease and god knows what else.

Every business wants to make money and the food industry, the diet industry and the pharmaceutical industry just make a fortune from us

Autumnnymph · 14/01/2019 08:50

Morning everyone! Weighed in at 57.2 this morning - which if I look back is a loss of close to 1 kg this week. While its not the 1.5kgs, I was hoping to see, it's still a really good loss and am pleased.

My aim this week is to try and lose another kg but will be happy with a 0.5 kg loss. Healthy eating shall continue.

I have steamed a mix of vegetables and seasoned with some garam masala which I plan to have for lunch. Yesterday I took out my anger by cooking a variety of vegetable based chutneys that are healthy and can stay in the fridge. I much prefer to use those rather than dressing on salads.

In a much better frame of mind today. Have a good week everyone, we got this!

Morning all. I’ve been avoiding the thread as I’ve been rubbish. Still eating and drinking and not exercising. But determined to start back today.

So I weighed this morning and I’m down a pound! Very happy with that as I feel it is wholly undeserved!

My plan for this week is to track on MFP - aiming for 1600 calories a day to ease myself in. And a walk every day. And no wine.

I did attempt Dry January but managed one day only! I think I set meyself up to fail by saying I will be totally dry. So I’m going to aim for dry Mon to Thurs for now. And then I will see how I feel.

Koko - I bought the Mosley book too. Haven’t read it yet but will this week. He is going a Q&A on here today I think - might be worth a look.

My friend in Australia bought it too and suggested we both do it. She has joined WW too for weekly weigh in accountability.

Autumn - your food always sounds lovely. We both love Indian food and I’m trying to get away from too much meat so might try that recipe you linked to up thread.

Dashel - you are so right. Both the food and diet industries make a fortune from us. And treats should be just that - treats. If we have treats more than occasionally they aren’t treats they are habits. Education and perseverance are so important. Three proper meals a day of real food and enough movement is what we should be aiming for. For most people that is enough to maintain a healthy weight. With occasional treats. The key is real food as opposed to overly processed food which is designed to make us want more.

Right. I’m off to sort out my messy kitchen, go for a walk and do a shopping list.

Meal plan for today is

Breakfast - protein bagel, marmite and dairy Lea cheese slices
Lunch - home made veg soup
Dinner - pork schnitzel, sweet potato fries and veg

@peridot thanks! I love cooking and taking a break from work is letting me rediscover how much I love experimenting. When I was working full time in a high stress job, I had fallen to ready meals and take aways just for the convenience.

LMK if there is anything specific you love and i would be more than happy to share my favourite recipes.

I am hoping once I head back to work soon-ish I dont fall back into lazy habits.

Yesterday I took out my anger by cooking a variety of vegetable based chutneys

I don't know why but that really made me laugh. Not a sentence you see every day Grin Glad you're feeling better Autumn.

On Saturday, I consumed nothing but Supernoodles, popcorn and chips Blush Out tomorrow so won't be Golden, but my class today has been cancelled so I'll be using that as an excuse to get some extra steps in!

Vegetable chowder sounds amazing - any chance someone could post the recipe here? Google doesn't seem to know about it...

Autumnnymph · 14/01/2019 14:19

@QuimReaper Grin well it was either rage cook or rage eat. :D

DD did tell me she prefers it when I choose baking as my anger outlet than cooking Wink

@kokoloco seconding @Quims request for vegetable chowder recipe - Google only shows me Hairy Bikers vegetable soup - not a chowder in sight

I’ve had a look in my two HD books and can’t see a recipe for a vegetable chowder. I think they did a veggie book that I don’t have so maybe it’s in that.

I had a look on Pinterest too but couldn’t see it. There were lots of vegetable chowders though. Including a weight watchers one.

@autumn do you have a recipe for anything with spinach? I love sag paneer but not sure it's a particularly healthy choice from my local take away with loads of rice and poppadoms Blush Also anything with chick peas?

@koko yes I'm definitely up for the 800 a day challenge. The scales went up again this morning. I swore loudly Angry. The book arrived today though so I will start reading tonight. I already do time restricted eating and have done for years (approx 8pm to 10am) but I suppose I could extend it.

Today I have been buried in spreadsheets and didn't really move from my desk at all. I've only done 3.5k steps. I'm just trying to motivate myself to go for a walk. It's so cold Sad. Maybe a private disco for half an hour might be better.

Autumnnymph · 14/01/2019 18:55

@Kick for a healthier take on Palak (spinach) paneer - I replace paneer with tofu. Palak paneer can be very healthy depending on how you cook it. Most of the indian takeaway is much higher in calorie than what we make at home as its so high in oil and fat. You can also replace paneer with chickpeas which I do often

I make spinach dal very regularly at home.

Spinach Dal recipe here - www.vegrecipesofindia.com/palak-dal-spinach-dal/

Palak paneer recipe www.vegrecipesofindia.com/palak-paneer/

The palak curry here is a very handy base and also freezes very well. I tend to use this as a base and add mixed veggies like cauliflower, carrots, peas, bell peppers one day and chickpeas another.

My absolute favourite spinach recipe for a winter day is palak khichdi. www.vegrecipesofindia.com/palak-khichdi-recipe-palak-recipes/

For all the recipes above - ignore the spices she mentions and just add Kitchen King masala to taste.

chickpea curry - www.vegrecipesofindia.com/chana-masala-with-coconut/

Chickpea pulao - www.vegrecipesofindia.com/chana-pulao/

The Vegrecipes of india is a fabulous treasure trove for healthy recipes and is quite close to how home cooked food in India tends to be :)
