Last year I was gutted at being 13st.

I'm now 17st 2lbs.

I've done nothing but emotionally eat all year, fuelled by depression and anxiety. To the point where I've become mildly agoraphobic.

This has got to be the year I turn my life and poor eating habits around.

I don't know where to start.

I know the title is quite harsh but I've been telling myself it's not so bad.

But it is.

I'm fat. Very fat. And I need to correct it.

I feel terrible too, I’ve really let myself go over the last year and it has definitely been emotionally based. I now feel totally overwhelmed by the amount of weight to lose but I’m starting to get panicky about my health deteriorating, I also snore like a train and get breathless walking down the road. I have low mood days where I convince myself that a day of unhealthy eating won’t matter but then I go on and on like this most days. I wish there was a way to turn off my appetite. I haven’t bought any nice clothes in ages as I look so ugly and hate looking at my puffy face in the mirror.

@BatCakes I'm a mfp user, why is the other app better?

Inthetropics · 31/12/2018 05:39

I'm cutting sugar from my life. I'm pre-diabetic. When i don't eat sigar my apetite naturally decreases A LOT, so i'm hoping this will lead to weight loss. I also plan on following the No-S Diet.

I'm 5ft7 and the last time I weighed myself I was 18st12. But I've been a greedy cow since then so think I'm closer to 20st now.
My downfall is snacking, I would rather have crisp butties than a proper meal.
Last night I ate most of a tub of pringles, vienetta with Nutella and clotted cream, 4 pieces of toast and a large tube of smarties.
It's got to the point where I never feel full so I just keep eating.
My snoring is horrendous (possible sleep apnoea?) and my joints are always aching.
My dress size is 26-28 and I keep kidding myself that ooh they're just small sizes.

Ten years ago I was a size 16 and would love to get back to that, even tho at the time then I thought I was fat.

I'm hoping to start the 10k steps each day, and cut out crisps / choc etc. Also meal planning and cooking everything from scratch.

Are we doing a weigh in?

isitisitwicked · 31/12/2018 06:36

I've recently been diagnosed with a condition due to my weight. I'm currently 18st.

They told me I had to loose weight, so I have lost a stone over Xmas which I'm really proud of. I feel really positive about next year!

I put on 4 stone after having my son who is now 2.5. It's so easy done

user1457017537 · 31/12/2018 06:42

Have you tried the metabolic diet. Basically you restrict carbs to 25 g for 6 weeks. The weight does come off and I’m normally very resistant to diets. More info on the net but it does work.

Woohoo1 · 31/12/2018 06:43

Weight today 12’11. Will weigh in again Friday and then every other Friday after, I like the idea of a Friday weigh in case I have a weekend blip (I’ll have the whole week to pull it back) also going dry January. Good luck everyone. We WILL do this.

Tatiannatomasina · 31/12/2018 06:47

After a diagnosis of pre diabetes I went keto and lost 11 kgs. Still 5 to go. It is the easiest way of losing weight i have ever found and bonus keeps my blood sugars in the normal range. Highly recommend giving it a try, speaking as a failed WW, slimming world, shake dieter.

Bluewidow · 31/12/2018 07:03

I’d also recommend Keto. I do t weigh myself and didn’t change to Keto to loose weight but I needed to rid my diet of all caffeine as I have severe headaches. However, keto sorts out your appetite and I’m just not as hungry anymore. Start just by cutting out carbs: bread, pasta, rice.

Keeponwalking · 31/12/2018 07:08

Agree with other posters about keto, in addition to weight loss/looking better etc it's really helped with my anxiety and made my moods so much more level. I sometimes cant believe the change its had on me.

yestonodressyet · 31/12/2018 11:31

I'm currently 13st 7, getting married in 2019 and have bought a sample dress so I HAVE to lose weight to fit in it! Aiming for 2 stone minimum, I'm planning on my fitness pal 1200 calories (50g carbs max) and I've signed up to the 30 day yoga and going to swim at least once a week and up my walking. Like the sound of a Friday weigh in, will post my results here each week for some much needed accountability!

MintyCedric · 31/12/2018 12:38

I've tried quite a few diets over the years some which worked for a while but really I just love food and don't enjoy exercise.

Me too!

I also want to lose weight for health reasons and also confidence reasons. I've been single for 2.5 years since my marriage broke down and whilst I'm not sure dating is for me at the moment I'd like to have the confidence to get out and make some new friends (tbh some male attention would be nice too!)

MummyPigsBigTummie · 31/12/2018 12:48

Hi everyone.

Wow didn't expect so many replies.

We all sound so sad :(

I'm sure with support from each other we can do this!

Am intrigued about the blood sugar diet.

Are the principles online anywhere free or do I have to buy the book?

Over the last decade my weight has gone from 15.3 stone to 9.10 stone upto my current 14.7 stone.

I definitely comfort eat. I need to try and lose weight again as I feel really unhealthy. Sept 2017 I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid.

Feel crap at moment. At friend’s yesterday and her uncle said everyone loves a fat girl to me. I am fat but that was so embarrassing in front of everyone.

user1457017537 · 31/12/2018 13:30

Mummypigsbigtummy I read it in the Daily Mail but I think there was a book as it was serialised. I found the chart really useful but don’t know how to link.

user1457017537 · 31/12/2018 13:35

The book is Metabolism Miracle by Diane Kress apparently it was on the New York Times bestseller list when published. Friends have had success with the Dukan diet but I don’t like salmon!

notacooldad · 31/12/2018 14:09

Bloody rude and a nasty thing to say.

minkies11 · 31/12/2018 14:24

Can I join? Just posted on the running thread so this seems logical next step! 2 years ago I was a size 8 now pushing 16 :( I always work so far from home and am 30 miles from my old gym since moving house. Because I'm away a lot all I want to do is rush home to DH and Dcats as quickly as possible so stopped the gym. Plus I love crisps, mcdonalds and wine - fatal combination! I cannot pluck up the courage to get on the scales yet.

AnuvvaMuvva · 31/12/2018 14:26

I got up to 13.5 stone last year (from 10stone) and it made my anxiety worse and I was bordering on agoraphobic.

I had been scornful of WW for years, but they had an offer on and it sounded better. I joined as an online-only member and really liked it! The app is really, really good. It has a social bit (like Facebook) where you can find loads of support, or you can not use that bit at all if you're feeling shy.

I lost 2.5 stone in 3 months. It's plateaued over the autumn as I had loads of health stuff going on and used that as an excuse to stop it 😆 but I only gained weight over this Xmas week, and then only 4lbs.

I'm restarting tomorrow. I can't recommend it enough. No meetings, no pressure, just a super-useful app and loads of support if you want it.

RussellSprout · 31/12/2018 14:40

Me too. Atkins style low carbing is my exit strategy. Done it before with fab results but never maintained.

mountainlakes · 31/12/2018 14:41

I'm 6 stone overweight. I'm so disgusted with myself. I comfort eat. I'm doing MyFitnessPal for calorie counting and swimming every day. But ds1 has additional needs and is really difficult to parent and be around sometimes. So I eat to make myself feel better.
Does anyone have any tips on how to resist comfort eating?

mountainlakes · 31/12/2018 14:48

Mummypig I'd recommend the book. I'm doing the blood sugar diet but vegan as part of the calorie counting. I've just eaten a load of pringles though.

OohMrDarcy · 31/12/2018 15:00

If you google blood sugar diet you'll get a link to Michael Mosleys web page on it - loads of info there.

ZigZagZombie · 31/12/2018 15:39

I've been following this thread from page one where someone mentioned the blood sugar diet. I must've heard rumblings about that as I went on Amazon before I'd even finished the page and bought it - it's winging its weigh here slowly enough for me to enjoy this evening. I've lost 4 stone over the last couple of years but I'm sure as many of you will know it's a tough journey. Down half a stone, up 4lbs, down 3lbs, up 2lbs type thing.

I thoroughly believe in keto 100% and its magical weight-loss properties. However, I'm an emotional eater - and the combination of keto, keto, keto, fuck me ALL the food, keto just leads to a "high fat, high carb" diet. Grin

So one of the things which interests me about the blood sugar diet is the actual meal plan - in an instant I will be able to see just how wrong I've gone.

Someone up thread talked about getting a gastric band. I had one about 15 years ago. Results were great - 8 stone down. Then I went on to have kids and I discovered that not eating and having a wee nap to keep me going were not going to be on the agenda... so some of it crept back on. I've actually considered getting a gastric sleeve now rather than going back to the band - but because I've got the band in, the sleeve operation will be an additional 4k+ because they have to remove that at the same time. So just a few words of advice there for the potential bandee.

ZigZagZombie · 31/12/2018 15:39

Ooooh "weigh here" is an interesting Freudian slip haha.
