Last year I was gutted at being 13st.

I'm now 17st 2lbs.

I've done nothing but emotionally eat all year, fuelled by depression and anxiety. To the point where I've become mildly agoraphobic.

This has got to be the year I turn my life and poor eating habits around.

I don't know where to start.

I know the title is quite harsh but I've been telling myself it's not so bad.

But it is.

I'm fat. Very fat. And I need to correct it.

Good morning all! I’ve had my breakfast smoothie, logged it in MFP and done a total of 25 minutes yoga - two separate videos. I intend on taking DS out for a walk run at some point today to get my active minutes.

I’m scared to weigh in. I should do it though, right? I’ve also got a tape measure so I might measure upper arms, waist, hips and thighs. I think I’ll be disgusted with myself (even more...)

Does everyone else have a ‘bad’ time food wise? I can eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and then it gets to 3pm and I’m hungry and binge. After dinner is a bad time for me too. I guess I need healthy snacks at hand for those periods?

Lunchfor me today will be - raw carrots, cucumber, avocado, cherry tomatoes, a boiled egg, Caesar salad dressing for dipping and probably a small portion of cheese. I’ve had it the last few days and I really enjoy it and for the first time ever I’m measuring my portions of cheese and dressing etc. I had a smoothie for breakfast (banana, almond milk, frozen raspberries and blueberries) and I’m not too sure what dinner will be. Chicken and roast veg tray bake type thing I imagine because I can’t be bothered! I’ll try and get at least three portions of veg in that and then I’ll be up to eight portions fruit/veg today, without snacks.

If I’m planning my snacks, today I’ll have honeydew melon, probably two yoghurt covered rice cakes and another boiled egg. I’ve got yoghurt in the fridge so maybe yoghurt and honey for pudding but having typed that all out it means I’m probably going to go over my calorie limit of 1420 :/

TwllBach · 01/01/2019 10:25

...I did it. 16 stone 4. Left arm 36cm right arm 37. Waist is 98cm and hips, including dirty great overhang, 127cm. Left thigh is 86cm, right 87. I’m officially hideous. No wonder DP won’t shag me!

I read somewhere recently about a study that showed one of the most effective ways to lose weight was to simply weigh yourself twice a week. It makes sense - diets are a battle, we know what we should and shouldn't eat, we kid ourselves and avoid facing the demon. So the increasing regular awareness of what you actually weigh must seep into your consciousness and affect what you eat. And the potential pleasure of regular small losses is a reward to keep you at it.
Pick 2 days. Highlight them on your calendar. You can leave the scales out or get them out as and when. Write the weight down or don't. Simply WEIGH YOURSELF TWICE A WEEK.

notacooldad · 01/01/2019 10:33

I’m scared to weigh in. I should do it though, right?
Not necessarily. You could just go of your measurements and how your clothes feel. You may get disheartened if you have a couple of weeks where the scales don't seem to move much. It's what works best for you.

Aliceinwanderland · 01/01/2019 11:17

I very slowly lost about a stone doing 16:8 last year. Mostly between August and November. And doing another hour or so exercise than I was before. I've taken a break over Christmas where I am just trying not to eat every chocolate and mince pie in the house but will go back to it later this week.

Basically I try not to eat anything before 10.30/11 (except a cappucino/coffee), have few carbs at lunch and no snacking after dinner. Otherwise I pretty much eat what I like. It works for me because I am not really hungry in the morning and being an emotional eater my temptation to snack is afternoon/ early evening. I also hate diets!

catgirl1976 · 01/01/2019 17:38

I'll be weighing in and starting tomorrow. Dreading the scales!

Good luck everyone

Worriedmum99 · 01/01/2019 18:15

Official starting weight is 19 st 5 lbs. took the dog for a long walk, eaten very healthily so far and logged everything in mfp. Aiming for 10k steps by the end of the day and the plan is to stick to 1400 cals per day.

Will weigh on next Tuesday.

Good luck all, we can do this.

Carbsnomarbs · 01/01/2019 18:22

Happy New Year and good luck to everyone

Checking in at 12st 6lbs
At 5 ft 5 Ive hit my limit, I feel disgusting, my skin is awful, I am struggling to find clothes to hide my wobbly bits and it’s causing me anxiety (put off going certain places incase I bump into old school friends etc and they see how big I am)

My plan is

  • cut the chocolate, crisps
  • drink lots more water to fill me up
  • try to recognise genuine hunger rather than emotionally or boredom eating
  • fit in more walking and try to do a dvd at least 4 times a week
l0v3f00d · 01/01/2019 18:22

MummyPig I could send you my slimming world pack photos if you want to see what it's all about or you can look online there's loads of forums and it's fairly easy to follow.

jammf · 01/01/2019 18:29

I'm weighing tomorrow morning and starting then.
I'm going to begin with sensible eating, no snacking and more walking.
I have a fitbit and on my work days I usually only do about 4000 to 5000 steps. I'm sat at a desk all day. We've got a treadmill I can dust off in the garage so I'm planning on getting out there in the evening and walking until I do 10,000 every day.

DuchessAnnogovia · 01/01/2019 18:30

I dread to think how much I weigh! Probably 20 stone plus. I over eat, I'm bloody lazy. But I've had enough of looking like a horror. I weigh in tomorrow morning. I've heard mention of the keto diet. Could anyone explain it please. Smile

Woohoo1 · 01/01/2019 18:53

Day one done!! Had my shakes and very low cal meal. Lots of water and now going to take my book to bed! Have locked all my excess xmas alcohol in the shed! Dry January has started also.

Woohoo1 · 01/01/2019 18:56

Carbsnomarbs: Give or take 4lbs you are my diet twin. I’m 5’5 but carry all my weight in arms, legs and hips!! My tummy is relatively flat!!

Carbsnomarbs · 01/01/2019 19:09

Woohoo1 I used to carry mine in the pear area, always a flat belly but since having another baby a few years ago my belly protrudes. we shall have to be weight loss buddies!
I think what I find the hardest is that along with gaining weight my body shape has complexly changed and I don’t know how to dress it well anymore

I0v would you recommend the slimming world online? I can’t make any of my local groups (lack of childcare) but I don’t know if I want to pay £5 a week for online support when I could probably just get that here

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 01/01/2019 19:44

I am 17 stone exactly today! I am only 5ft 1 (and a bit)

I am so fed up with myself. Have started and stopped so many times over the last few years in losing weight, I do well for the first 6 weeks or so, then stop, and put all the weight back on I lost and more.

I despise myself tbh.

I am doing MFP and going to start Couch to 5k with my 11 year old son. Who has also piled weight on in the last 6 months. I do not want him to do what nearly everyone in my family has done. Be slim as a child, then hit 11/12 ish and just pile the weight on, then be a huge teenager/adult for ever more.

I said I wanted to do couch to 5 k and start running to get fitter and he wants to come with me, so hopefully it can be something we do together.

mendandmakedo · 01/01/2019 21:09

I would like to join too

Height 5.2
Weight today 11.5

Have in the past been over 13 stone and once was 8.13. Seems like a very distant memory now. I would like to get to 10.0 as a start. Some great ideas and positive thinking on this thread it is really motivating me. I am also going to look after myself generally eg use moisturiser and try to sleep more. My approach is less carbs, smaller portions, no empty calories such as crisps/chocetc and low fat foods. Good luck everyone

yestonodressyet · 01/01/2019 22:47

Does anyone else find they have a hairy face more than when they are slimmer? Maybe it's just hormones since I had DS but I do think as I've been eating more crap my hormone levels are unbalanced and I'm having to daily pluck my chin! Sorry but off topic!

Carbsnomarbs · 01/01/2019 22:52

Yes I haven’t noticed it myself but could yours be PCOS related?

Woohoo1 · 02/01/2019 07:29

Couldn’t resist the scales this morning
Monday 12’11.4
Today 12’9.8
Yes it’s water weight but its gone down and given me the motivation to stick to my shakes/low carb today. Onwards and downwards.

bettyboop1000 · 02/01/2019 07:32

Damage done over Christmas was +5lbs. This puts me 3lbs into the next stone. I'm not happy.

jammf · 02/01/2019 08:05

This morning's weight 17st 6lb
I've decided to give 16:8 a go. I'll find that easier than fasting for a whole day.
Here's to day one.
I can do this! We can do this!

chalkyc2 · 02/01/2019 08:19

Starting today - yesterday was still the holidays!

I'm going skiing in 6 weeks. I need to shed some weight even just to get into my ski gear - it's not a super fun holiday when you're very overweight...😢 SO. What to do with all the choc and sweets and Xmas cake in the house??? I feel bad binning them! Maybe will get OH to take them into work.

My plan is protein breakfast (eggs), soup lunch and healthy but normal dinner. We always cook from scratch and I love stir fry's etc (I also love casseroles and shepherds pie and lasagne...but will go easy on them!!). Just about to weigh myself...

LosingNemo · 02/01/2019 08:38

I have always been far too big - in feb last year I was 16 stone 12 (I’m only 5”2). I have lost four stone over the year. I have taken it slow, MFP and keeping below 100g of carbs a day (so not low carb but lower carb). I cook every night and eat delicious food so that I don’t feel like I’m missing out). I’ve been off the waggon massively over Christmas but will get back on it when I go back to work. My aim is to lose another Two by June, which is when I turn 40.
I think the key is to not do anything too extreme and to make sure that your food is still tasty so you don’t feel like you are dieting.

Myusername2015 · 02/01/2019 08:47

I’m joining in at 16.5 today Angry
9 years ago I went from 21 stone to 9 stone and a size 8..the old fashioned way; I tracked what I ate counted calories and made sure I moved every day. I know that works so why my head is trying to make me take up yet another fad diet.
From today my pledge..no bingeing/eating between meals. Move every day. Ensure vegetables and fruit at least once a day. We’ve got this.

DarienGap · 02/01/2019 08:49

I've just gone to weigh myself and the scales are dead. Will get new batteries today and weigh in tomorrow morning.
I'm doing the 10k steps or aiming for 10k.
Also cutting out sugar / carbs. I have pcos so that's probably the best way for me.

Good luck everyone we can do this!!!!!!
